At least 20 people were killed and more than a dozen hurt in a stampede as worshippers rushed to be anointed during a church service in northern Tanzania, officials said on Sunday.

Thousands of people crammed into a sports stadium for the service on Saturday evening in the town of Moshi near Mount Kilimanjaro, with many getting crushed after the pastor called them to be anointed with “blessed oil.”

Despite the outbreak and spread of coronavirus, Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs seems to have no plan in place to rescue Nigerians residing in China. This was suggested when Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) advised Nigerians living in China to be careful and to stay indoors more for now.

Just this morning, I got a debit alert from AlieXpress and was wondering how possible. I thought it must be a problem with Aliexpress since I do shop there.. As i was trying to get to support, I got another debit alert, and yet another.

I had to block the atm through my bank app. I tried looking for my atm and it was nowhere to be found.

It dawns on me that I've lost my atm and someone is shopping with it. Now my question is, is it possible to recover my money through my bank, possibly trace the transaction and know who did it?

Lai Mohammed says 16 Nigerians in Wuhan hit by Coronavirus are not showing interest in returning to Nigeria.

The minister while addressing journalists on Friday, January 31, 2020, said the 16 Nigerians have not shown interest in returning to their country.

While urging Nigerians to reconsider travelling to China, the minister said the Federal Government cannot stop Nigerians from travelling to the country.

He said, “We know it is a bit difficult to ban people from travelling. Another thing is that this is not a basis to stigmatise people who come from there.

“Even if we have Nigerians who are there, unless they indicate interest that they want to come home, we can’t force them.

“I know we have Nigerians in Wuhan; our Embassy in China has confirmed that we have about 16 Nigerians in Wuhan and they are in touch with them.

“They have, however, not indicated their interest to come home. They will, however, contact our embassy if they like to come home.

“We need a lot of public enlightenment. We need to let people who travel know that there is the need for absolute transparency and absolute honesty when they are filling out forms.”

Two coronavirus cases confirmed in UK

The UK's first two cases of the Wuhan coronavirus were confirmed in England on Friday, January 31. The patients, whose ages and nationalities have not been revealed but are known to be from the same family, were announced by the Department of Health.

Coronavirus:Stay Indoors For 2weeks, Senate Tells Incoming Travellers From China

Worried by the ravaging spread of the deadly Coronavirus in China and 15 other countries, the Nigerian Senate on Thursday directed incoming travellers from China, Asia and other affected countries to isolate themselves by staying indoors and disassociate themselves from physical contact with the Nigerian public for at least two weeks.

The Senate further urged the Nigerians Intending to travel to Asia, especially China, to heed the Federal Government’s travel advisory by putting their travel arrangements on hold till further notice until the outbreak of Coronavirus is vanquished. In the same vein, the Senate advised the Nigerian public to adopt health precautionary measures by washing their hands with running water, it further urged those with reported cases or likely infection or symptoms that are approximately associated with the Coronavirus to visit the hospitals for an urgent health check.

The Senate made the resolutions in response to a motion moved by Senator Chukwuka Utazi (Enugu South) titled ‘Motion on Coronavirus Outbreak and Preventive Response in Nigeria’.

According to Utazi, the virus infects humans and was spread via air, coughing and sneezing, close personal contact, touching an object or surface contaminated with the virus. Utazi explained that the symptoms of the infection were characterised by running nose, sore throat, feeling unwell, cough and fever.

The Senate expressed worry that the deadly disease had killed over 170 persons and infected more than 630. The Senate pointed out that the number of infected people would increase rapidly as the disease outbreak occurred at the period when Chinese around the world travelled home for their annual Holiday and week-long Lunar New Year, and they would be returning back to their various countries of residence.

Utazi informed the Senate that the Federal Ministry of Health through the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had risen to the occasion and were closely monitoring the outbreak of respiratory illness caused by the new Coronavirus. He further disclosed that aviation regulatory agencies recently stepped up surveillance across operating international airports across the country in a bid to contain the spread of the endemic.

The Senate commended and lent support to the Federal Government’s travel advisory.

Supporting the Motion, Senator Barau Jubrin (Kano North) called on health officials in the country to employ preventive measures.

In his words: “People are dying in their numbers in China and disease spreads very fast across the globe. Other countries have taken effective measures to make sure that this disease doesn’t find its way into their countries. This motion is a wakeup call to our health officials to make sure they employ preventive measures to make sure that this disease does not come into our country. We should find a way to send an urgent message through this motion to the executive to make sure that the proper thing is done because once this country enters this country we are in trouble.”

In his contribution, Senator James Manager (Delta South) hailed the Federal Government’s precautionary measures, disclosing that he had almost embarked on a journey to China but changed his mind, saying “I don’t want to die”. He advised that preventive measures be taken by all Nigerians.

“I am surprised that the World Health Organisation (WHO) has not been able to qualify the virus as an international health emergency. I am happy that we are rising to the occasion here in this country, that means we are learning from history. This Coronavirus is like another Ebola disease, we were able to deal with it and learn from the experience. Our health ministry is doing well and I want them not to relent.

“In fact, myself, I was to travel to China a few days ago, but I said no I will not go to that part of the world. I don’t want to die. At every opportunity please wash your hands, if you have not been doing that you can never tell if the person is transmitting to you or you are transmitting to another person.

The Senate, in its resolution, commended the Federal Ministry of Health through the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for their efforts aimed at stemming the Coronavirus infection in Nigeria and urged them not to lower their guard until the scourge was eradicated internationally and locally. It also asked the Federal Government to allocate more funds to the NCDC to acquire the latest equipment for research into drugs and diagnosis of diseases.

Coronavirus: Don’t go to China, Nigerian government tells citizens

The Federal Government has issued travel advisory to Nigerians to suspend plans to visit China in view of raging case of Coronavirus in the Asian country.

Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, gave the directive in Abuja at the end of the Federal Executive Council meeting, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday. Ehanire told State House Correspondents that FEC approved a travel advisory for Nigerians, stating clearly that all travel plans to China be stopped in the meantime.

He said the advisory also directed all returnees to Nigeria from China to be quarantined outdoors within a period of two weeks before fully interacting with their families. He explained the two weeks would be used to monitor possible symptoms on the returnees.

The minister added that the directive has also been expended to all airlines flying into Nigeria to report any passenger with signs of illness to airport authorities upon landing at any airport in the country. Ehanire added that all disease control and monitoring agencies in the country had been alerted to be on the look out for any sings of the infection.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives, yesterday, directed the Federal Ministry of Health, the Nigeria Immigration Services, the Quarantine Services, the Federal Airport Authoriity of Nigeria (FAAN) and other related agencies to immediately set up screening centres at all points of entry into the country, with the aim detecting symptoms of coronavirus on travellers from countries with cases of the virus.

The House also directed the Ministry of Health to collaborate with other relevant agencies to set up isolation centres in all entry points in the country and where necessary isolate anyone coming into the country suspected to have the virus.

The Green Chamber equally directed all health institutions in the country to be on alert for sign of the coronavirus, with aim of curbing it, in the “unlikely event” that the virus is transmitted into the country.
