Nairaland GeneralRe: What Has 2020 Taught You? by hstar: 11:08pm On Dec 31, 2020
TheManofTomorrow:
As this year comes to an end tonight. A lot of appreciation to friends and loved ones, best wishes for the coming year are flying around. A lot are optimistic about the coming year.

It has been the best year for some yet the worse for many others.

I won't like to bore you all with happenings of this year. But one thing is for sure, we all agreed that this year had been one of a kind thanks to brother Corona and Chief ASUU especially.(for students angry)

We succeeded at some things, failed woefully at many others but above all we learnt and got more experience.

I learnt a lot of things and I'm sure we all did. Here are some of the core lessons 2020 succeeded in teaching me hardcore cheesy

1. Never to be afraid to taking risk especially when it comes to financial liberation.
So long a business/investment is in good standing, go for it(wisely) if you have the financial muscle. That might just give you the financial breakthrough you have been hoping for.

2. To always try to get out of my "comfort zone
No matter how comfortable your comfort zone might be, always strive to "be more" and uncomfortable. Trust me, that's the only way you can grow.

3. To build my network.
After all, in this age and time, your NETWORK determines your networth. No long talk about it. We all know where Nigeria tilting towards and how things are being run grin

4. To always stay informed
Omo, information is power, this year was the year I knew the worth of that popular saying. Information is sometimes what differentiate the Middle class from the rich. Information has a way of placing you one step ahead amongst your peer. Trust me.

5. Not to stay depressed for too long.
Depression is a state of mind we all have experienced on occasions in our life regardless of the reason(s). Always pick yourself up, dust your sneakers and get back on the track cool. Life continues and you can't get the most out of life by staying depressed.

Okay, Nairalanders, let's hear yours too, hopefully someone picks a lesson or two.

Nobody should hearken unto him. They're all scammers. If you don't have money to spend, find work. No responsible man begs to eat! Last week, one of them wailed here for money. I paid 5k into his account earlier today, but he didn't acknowledge receipt. Then I baited him; telling him that my wife would send an amount of money to him in the new year in her own right. It was then that he replied that he had been busy to thank me and that there's no network where he was doing his hustle. No person should mind them!
Bros, I'm not a fraud

I'm working just that we are being owed salaries for two months, I started this security job two months ago, leaving teaching job.

One thing I want to say is;
Things are hard out there, I know nobody owes me anything, but when the adversity is too much one just has to voice out.

I feel ashamed of myself though for u thinking I want to scam pple

Never

I'm just going through difficult time which made me want to solicit for help, thank you.

I get what you're trying to say anf its a good thing but you should never call anyone lazy for wanting to leave the country for good. There are so many good reasons for wanting to leave this country such as, the government killing its citizens for doing the right thing, police and military men killing citizens for no or no good reasons at all, very very poor standard of education (I've been at home for 9months and possibly even more cos of strike and scamdemic, if you think that the virus is in the country then you're not thinking right cos if it truly is then I suppose that at least 50% of the population would be dead by now cos we do not have the facilities to tackle it though I believe that there are true covid cases in the country but they are very very few and not the fake numbers they keep updating us with daily. I always wonder why anyone would believe these numbers when the same government lied about not killing its citizens for doing a peaceful protest?), little to no employment opportunity for citizens (though I advice that no one should depend on employment opportunity to earn a living), poor poor standard of living, hunger, corruption and I could even go on and on. And I know that there are problems all over the world and even some of the ones that I mentioned here are present in Europe but at least they try to give their citizens the best unlike here and their citizens over there have human rights unlike us here who get treated like animals. I do not see this country getting fixed in the next thousands of years (imagine the scenes when Europe and America will be so advanced in those thousand years and Nigeria still cannot even have 5% of the present European civilization cheesy), and i know that there are a lot of people like you who foolishly believe that you can make a difference (no offense) you can make a difference indeed but it'll be an insignificant difference and if you want to make the difference that really matter you'll end up getting threatened and killed. There's no hope in the forseable future for Nigeria i tell you. I'm currently 19 and will soon be 20 but my entire teenage life has been about me wanting out of this country and that's why I always try to perform great academically as it is my best chance of escaping this finished country, I would have been on course to graduating next year at 20 so I can begin planning to finally leave the country for good but the fake covid19 and ASUU strike has added possibly another year or even more for me in this finished country. If I can be able to migrate to Europe and have a job, afford to rent a house, do all the things I've been dreaming of doing in Europe would be more than enough achievement for me in my life though I believe I can achieve far better than that. May God help us.

The Suitcase. . .

A man died and when he realized it, he saw God coming closer with a suitcase in His Hand. The following conversation ensued between them:

God - Alright son, it's time to go.
Surprised, the man responded:
Now? So soon? I had a lot of plans...
God - I'm sorry but it's time to go.
Man - What do you have in that suitcase?
God - Your belongings.
Man - My belongings? You mean my things, my clothes, my money?
God - Those things were not yours; they belonged to the earth.
Man - Is it my memories?
God - Those never belonged to you; they belonged to Time
Man - Is it my talents?
God - Those were never yours; they belonged to the circumstances of your life.
Man - Is it my friends and family?
God - I'm sorry; they were never yours. They belonged to the path.
Man - Is it my wife and children?
God - They were never yours; they belonged to your heart.
Man - Is it my body?
God - That was never yours; it belonged to the dust.
Man - Is it my soul?
God - No that is mine.

Full of fear, the man took the suitcase from God and opened it. . . just to find out the suitcase was empty.

With a tear coming down his cheek, the man said:
Man - I never had anything
God - That is correct. Every moment you lived were the only belongings you had.

This is a great lesson. Life is just a moment - a moment that belongs to only you. For this reason, enjoy your time and use it wisely while you have it. Don't let any material thing that you think you own or that you are struggling to acquire stop you from doing so.

- Live Now!

I love the context. The grammatical structure, the words, the flow of each word hitting each word to strike up a sentence. This are my kind of post that makes me to check the dictionary for meaning.

Now back to the post, I was in awe to see a prostitute speaking fluently, I am aware she went to school. But those English spoken by her mates can reduce her flow. I hope the OP didn't polish her English to fitin his context? cheesy

Prostitutions is not a legal thing. People falls into wrong ways when the right ways is closed.

We are a poverty alleviation charity. We try to help out in little ways to make life more meaningful for those worst affected by socioeconomic adversity. These are images from our destitute support programme in London this Christmas.

You can find more about us on our Facebook page:

We have been working in the UK and parts of Africa for a couple of years. This year, with the challenges created by the Covid-19 pandemic, we decided to expand our humanitarian support to reach more vulnerable people in other parts of Europe. This is a video from our charity outreach in Europe:

[url]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uejuvm7XlYY/url]

Many families in Africa have been badly affected by the Covid-19 lockdown. The situation is compounded by the continent’s pervasive poverty problem. Economic and Social Rights infrastructure is grossly inadequate in the majority of African nations with governments failing woefully to deliver basic socio-economic dividends to impoverished populations. Between 40-50% of Sub-Saharan Africans are living below the poverty line. The continent has about 11 per cent of the world’s population but carries almost a quarter of the global disease burden. It has below 1 per cent of global health expenditure and a meagre 3 per cent of global health workers while accounting for almost 50% of the planet’s deaths of children under five, and the highest maternal mortality rate with almost two-thirds of the global maternal deaths in a year (Nigeria accounts for most of these preventable deaths in Africa, and is second only to India globally). Less than 20 per cent of African women have access to education, and 2 in five adults in the region are illiterate.

To address these colossal challenges, Africa needs urgent sustainable economic growth which could be facilitated by international trade. However, the continent’s share of global trade was a humiliating 2.6% in 2018! This imposes serious obligations on governments and all stakeholders to work towards promoting not just the export of raw materials ( which has so far characterised Africa’s foreign trade) but manufactured goods and services from Africa to the rest of the world.

We can ALL contribute in different ways to make this happen. Our charity is committed to this vision. In the last few years, we have supported a number of small businesses in Africa. We have provided business mentoring, small handouts, and micro-credit facilities, some of which we had to write off due to the challenging conditions of the recipients concerned. We are also actively working with artisans and small businesses to facilitate the direct export of local products from the continent to the West. Though this is still at the incubation stage, we see this as a vital aspect of our work.

Today, multitudes are grappling with serious economic difficulties in our own country. We want to assist as many as we can in our own little way. Ultimately, the goal is to support thousands of underprivileged individuals and families, especially those living in extreme poverty. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, 40% of Nigerians are living below the poverty line, surviving on a little over $1 a day. This festive season, we will be starting with 50 individuals and families. We will work with each family to develop a poverty alleviation strategy. Beyond merely giving them fish, we aim to empower them with the right fishing tools so they can progressively navigate their way out of poverty.

Through our newly registered ’No Poverty Campaign’ NGO, we will be kickstarting a programme that is structured to address the challenges of families suffering from generational poverty by providing targeted quality academic assistance to deprived kids while assisting their parents materially and morally with a view to breaking cycles of poverty.

This is where you come in! If you know any destitute that you are deeply concerned about, this is your chance to help that person or family. You can help us to reach the RIGHT people by bringing them to our attention. Nominate the individual, telling us how bad their situation is, and we will take it from there. If they meet our criteria, they would be registered on our economic empowerment program to receive tailored systematic assistance for 6 months to establish a foundation for financial stability. Each of the 50 individuals nominated will also receive a little token of #10,000 as a present this festive season.

Please spread this information and help us to reach the right people. Kindly send all nominations to:

charles@humanitariannomads.com

That a person is married, doesn't mean some people won't still find them attractive. The gene for attraction doesn't automatically switch off when there's a spouse in the picture. There are actually some humans of destruction that go out of their way to prey on married men and women because there's no commitment involved.

What I'm saying in essence is that it is left for you, the married person to respect the relationship you have with your spouse. The outsider has no such commitment to your partner and they really don't care I have been out several times with my fiance and I look on in amusement when some are giving him the green light. Even with my rings on, some still want to 'toast' me...lol (babe lomo)

Sometimes, we invite the third party all by ourselves. You have a relationship with a friend and emotions start getting in the way. You deceive yourself by saying its nothing and you keep moving closer. You then start to see the 'missing' 20% that your partner lacks.

"Oh, see how Tunde listens to me. Always goes out of his way to help me. Lanre doesn't even put me first." Before you know it, your spouse no longer excites you. All you're looking forward to is when Tunde will come to town again. The phone rings and you're checking the caller ID to see if it is Tunde and you roll your eyes when you see it is Lanre. Careful, sister, that handshake is going past the elbow.

There's a Yoruba adage that says, "nkan tó báníje, má fi run mú." (What you have no intention of eating, don't even smell it lest you get tempted). Humans are emotional beings and sometimes, these emotions make us misbehave if we don't put them in check.

Another adage says, "tí wón bà n tàn é, má tan ra rè." (If they're deceiving you, don't deceive yourself). Most recognize when the feelings start to come up but deny it vehemently to themselves till they're in too deep.

At some time in a relationship especially marriage, see finish may enter the equation. And that is when you start to see all the shortcomings of your spouse. "She doesn't even bend it like Beckham, He's not even romantic, She likes tying wrapper."

When you get to this point, you have to remind yourself of all the things that endeared her/him to you and work on your relationship by communicating with each other effectively. It is not by seeking solace out there as that only gives temporary relief.

Again, there are different kinds of relationships. Some are married but are in an open relationship or they're allowed to bring other partners into the relationship (Nothing somebody will not see on Zikoko). As long as you are both in agreement with the dynamics of your relationship....ba wahala.

Finally, if you decide to let the handshake go past the elbow and you step out in your relationship...please don't blame the devil. Jeje l'esu joko. Be contrite and ask for forgiveness if they're willing to forgive you. If not, cut your losses and move on. No matter how angry you get as the aggrieved partner, don't ever do something that you'll regret later on - Like violence or worse, killing your partner. Don't spend your life behind bars for something that could have been handled better.

Thank you
