terzurum5: WC Qualification Africa:
Zambia can shock Nigeria in Uyo, says coach Wedson Nyirenda
Samuel Ahmadu Correspondent
The gaffer is delighted with his side's double over Algeria in the race to Russia 2018, and feels they can upset Gernot Rohr's men in Uyo
Zambia coach Wedson Nyirenda believes his side can secure maximum points against Nigeria in next month's 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier in Uyo.
Chipolopolo completed back to back wins over Algeria to climb to the second spot with seven points in Group B.
And the gaffer insists they inch closer to their Russia 2018 dreams as he has shifted focus on conquering the Super Eagles who need a win to earn a qualification ticket.
“We managed to grab the six points. The team has done very well. We are getting closer to the dream,” Nyirenda told Caf website.
“The north Africans are not an easy side but the boys went on and fought for the six points. We will now focus on Nigeria. They are a good team and will desperately want a win.
“I have a big team that can pick a win [against Nigeria] and that is what I'm planning for."

libero808: Are you saying if Cameroon had focused on exploiting our left back they won't have gotten a better result? Time would tell if he is our best option there. pure wisdom...bless you for this. That's why many chanting Shehu for RB leaves me surprised as if he has never played that role before prior the Cameroon game.... I remember onazi played trash against south Africa but same player later played differently against Cameroon... time will tell how good this players are....in each of this roles... the paramount need is ***consistency** and nothing else... reason why others should be tried...had we played against Spain..Brazil or even Belgium...I tell you the story would have been different then why can't we search and look to field in players that can match these world stars when occasion demands... beating Cameroon is not too an achievement for a country of 180 million people where football is a unifying factor...the only language almost everyone understands.. |

TheGoodJoe: Leicester City playing with more bravery against Chelsea. Looking better than their last few games. However, I feel Iheanacho would have been a better partner for Vardy. Vardy hit a good ball across the goal but Slimani was slow to arrive the danger spot. it's like shakespear will likely be fired this season.... |

eterisan: right here following silently. Glad someone remembers.. Sir terzurum5...ok OK I will drop comments. Regarding the left back issue, I am deeply touched and sad at the amount of stick given echeijile. We know age is not on his side, he has lost a yard or two, but please....he is the best option we have right now.. Sad but true.. If you disagree, please name a natural left back of Nigerian origin, qualified to play for us, in any of the top 20 leagues in the world, [20 I mean expand the bracket] that will unseat ụwa. Rohr is no slouch, he knows what he is doing. He will continue to field the best we have, and right now ụwa is our best bet for a starting position atleft back... Show the dude some respect.
Disagree much give names.. And not make shift options.. Right now in the team we got Aina and Tyrone... Make shift options..... How did we even get here... I need to develop my left leg asap.. Lolz..... Or probably make a baby, force him to be a leftie with an eye on the left back position of the Eagles......
All am asking for is for ụwa to be shown some respect..... Cos he has held his own for years in the team.... And I can't remember any mistake he has done in recent games that cost us goals... Accept his limitations.. Uphold his strengths... We are a team...
PS..if ụwa gets injured before the world cup.. Then we are screwed.. SCREWED FROM ALL HOLES.. ASK KESHI AND THE LAST WORLD CUP WE PARTICIPATED.. peace I'm out. sir watch him get injured...and see how one young lad makes judicious use of that opportunity...*God forbid he gets injured... You think those currently sitting on the SE bench have no potentials or nothing to offer... lot of them..are currently waiting for an opportunity to shine and never let go... so forget it...there is no LB that can't be replaced...probably you forgot aina nura and ebuehi can all play that role |

Icon79: That would definitely be a good idea, because I know that England would try to cap him once they qualify. I have watched the boy play a few times and he's a real talent. We definitely need him.
Problem is, even if he agrees to switch, the NFF might not be able to secure his clearance before England caps him. It took them months to get Aina cleared, even after Rohr had told them that Aina is critical to his plans.
O pari the loquacious FA president...just don't know how to keep things secret... all over the English press it is all over... |

Icon4s: 23 players being invited if for us to have depth in the squad. The regulars are always favorites to start. You cannot be rotating a starting 11 with every match. You will not have a TEAM. chief Icons4......to be honest you see these players individual abilities many a time is what wins matches for us... how many days do they have to train and adapt to tactics...prior matches? the players are just reactionary and their skilfully endowed....that has been working for us.... I believe aina would have fare better and lived up to expectation had it been he played that return let against Cameroon... we need to start playing him if we must get others...we believe can contribute something postively to the SE.... his success wit the SE will go convince the rest |

Icon4s: Does the coach not see them in the training camp? Rohr for instance knows the abilities of his players.
Not every player called to camp must play. Not every player in the squad must play then we should stop inviting 23 players... it is outright nonsense when we already know those to play and those not to play... this double standard leaves me surpised... let me tell....You see some of those players i on bench could have even done much better than some on the field that day... even rohr with all due respect is not a world class coach per se.... |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Humility017(m): 10:35pm On Sep 07, 2017 |
Icon4s: There are varying degrees of team rotation. You cannot be presenting different starting 11 and expect to build a team
Yes we want the team to get better but a total rotation is a no-no.
The 1994 team had depth but we know the regular starters. Everyone even till date can list the starting 11 of that team.
Youth football is different from Senior football. So the reference to the Manu's U17 does not hold much water here. Football at the U17 level has to do more with the individual abilities of the players. Manu assembled a pool of players with great abilities that even when some players failed the MRI the others still performed. At this level individual abilities counts a lot.
You first need regulars before your team can achieve a team that has cohesion.
Yes we need the injection of fresh blood into the team but this must be a gradual process. It took Westerhoff 5 years to progress the team to what it was in 1994. We cannot become Spain, Germany, Brazil or France over night.
And let me correct one impression, everybody must not play. form your last paragraph@ why invite them to camp then if you believe they must not play? our problem here in Africa is our conservative approach to issues... we're allergic to change.... I repeat you will never know how good some of these SE bench warmers are..not until you give them a chance... |

Napoleon55: just one minute wrong sub can cost a match,we r not in a hurry to cap any player, before any will decide to switch,he must have made up his mind that there is no going back,if any player changes his mind because he was not capped on time is to his own disadvantage, cos he may never b accepted back by his former country. so you mean aina coming in place of that musa sub...would have ruin the match? I wonder how some of us here reason things out.... a match nigeria was already leading by 4 goals to nil so if the dude is that bad...he shouldn't have been bothered to switch his allegiance to nigeria... mind you...is highly rated than many of Africa defenders in his age.... playing and being rated high in championship is no fluke.. |

blueto: thankGod he has switched to Nigeria. But he should be featured in the next game irrespective of how crucial the game is, probably from the left back. Shebu has been in a better form since Ola started reporting to camp. This is what competition can bring. Ola should be capped even if it for few minutes. The idea of players with dual nationality not being capped after honoring invitations may not sound very good to players like Tammy that the federation is trying influence. Tyronne may not be happy with the fact that he has not been capped whether he pretends to be happy and satisfied with it or not. thank you...I think has been slacking in this regard inviting these players is not just enough You try get them cap tied... I don't know if any of the backroom staff lack this common sense... So annoyin these same players can switch allegiance tomoro... that change for musa...would have been for ebuehi or ola aina... by so doing you get them tied. the dude will even be happy to have featured in his country but win.... |
