English football is influenced unfairly by non football variables to a large extent. Protectionism means players can be protected from better players taking thier position.

Most club football recruitment directors are looking for the best players with the best deal for themselves not necessarily the club. Which takes priority the best deal or the best player is open to debate.

However, this means that there are quality players who have been overlooked or side stepped to make way for thier preferred players. This is an opportunity to get players before they become big news.

I have watched Onyedinma it's quite surprising he is still playing for League 1 Millwall. He started playing first team at 17 in the championship.

Onyedinma was being pursued by Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool when he was 16. Somehow politics has taken over. Unlike Tyrone this guy can cope with any kind of physicality Cameroon will throw at us. But needs to be capped asap I predict a premiership club will be making moves for him soon. This guy is considerably better than Lookman.

It's for the Nigeria official to be proactive in getting those players who are very good quality but not recognised and or unfairly treated. In a sense thier loss our gain, we should be discovering them before they are discovered by the big English clubs.

I have study the English team closely and discovered that...exceptional players get capped before they clock 23.... and as a British with an African lineage...you have to be exceptional to cement your place in the 3 lions squad...

With all the small boys in the Super Eagles, Mikel's experience is even more critical. Many players in the Super Eagles have not played professionally for up to 5 years. It is a very young team that would need leadership and guidance. Mikel, Onazi, Elderson, Balogun etc have to be leaders when times are tough.

my regret is that...we never discovered Leon balogun early enough... he should have been the deputy captain of the team...

England coach Gareth Southgate has insisted that he won’t force players who have dual nationality to represent the Three Lions, stating that they should be honoured to wear the England jersey without persuasion.

In the last few days, the Nigeria Football Federation have held talks with Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom, Chelsea defender Ola Aina, Sunderland’s Josh Maja and QPR starlet Eze over committing their international future to the Super Eagles, while the progress of Ovie Ejaria at Liverpool is being monitored.


And it appears the leadership of the Federation was successful in the approach, with Akpom, Aina and Eze training with the national team in London this week.


“In the end I have to focus on players who are desperate to play for England. I’m not aware those sorts of players are wanting to play for England or not really..., ” Southgate said.


“I didn’t get capped until I was 25 and I had no interest in playing for anyone else. I’m English and proud to be English and I think part of your identity as a national team has to be pride in the shirt.


“So for me the commitment has to come from the player.”
Everton’s Ross Barkley and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli were eligible to play for the Super Eagles before they became cap-tied to England.

Of all the youngsters being invited, Aina is the one that I am most excited about. Not sure that we need Akpom, Eze and Maja yet. Nff should do their switch quickly.

Good thing is that we have most of the Summer to prepare for Cameroon. We need to fix friendly games in the run-up so as to help our unfit players get up to speed.
