zoboizee: The battle for the players to be axed definitely will be in defense & forward between Awaziem & Ajayi, Osimhen & Iheanacho or probably on the wings between simon & onyekuru. The coach rates Kalu highly & admire the swift left foot of Chukwueze. The only left footed winger in the squad. Ighalo & Onuachu offers something different from Osimhen & Iheanacho. Musa though consistently inconsistent is untouchable except for injury and same goes for the rest of the squad. Rohr already has his preference of players. Just look at his past matches, see his squad, his first team choice & the Sub that always come in. He's predictable. to be honest with you...the two most clinical strikers in that 25 man list...are Nacho and Oshimen... let's be truthful... even ighalo I will say he has the physique to bully defenders and assert himself and also more skilful...but when it comes to scoring goals give it to nacho and oshimen |

Bolowolowo: Now makes sense why Iwobi and Ekong won’t feature Gernot Rohr to feature players with limited club action against Zimbabwe
By Calista Jacob-Akpan -June 4, 2019
Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has revealed that he will give players who didn’t have enough game time at their clubs opportunity to play Saturday’s friendly encounter against the Warriors of Zimbabwe.
The likes of of Leon Balogun and Kelechi Iheanacho struggled for regular playing time at English Premier League clubs, Brighton Hove & Albion, and Leicester City respectively. And Rohr is ready to start working on their match rustiness.
Balogun only made eight league appearances for Brighton, while Iheanacho started most of Leicester City’s games from the bench.
“I want to see a lot of players who are not playing so much, give them the opportunity to play,” Rohr told reporters after team’s evening training session in Asaba on Monday.
“It can be for some defenders like Balogun, he is fit but he didn’t play so much, so we want to see him playing on Saturday and also some players like Kelechi who didn’t play at all, so we want to see him play on Saturday”.
The two-time African champions opened camping in Asaba, Delta State on Sunday for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations billed to hold in Egypt later this month.
Super Eagles are expected to leave for Ismaila, Egypt on Sunday for the final lap of their preparations.
Rohr’s Eagles’ last pre-tournament friendly is against Senegal, billed for the Ismailia Stadium on June 16.
The three-time African champions will get their AFCON 2019 campaign underway against Burundi on June 22 at the Alexandria Stadium in Alexandria, before taking on Guinea at the same venue four days later.
They will wrap up their group encounters against Madagascar, once again in Alexandria, on June 30.
The AFCON 2019 is billed to take place in Egypt from the 21st of June to the 20th of July. whoever scored in this match...will surely make the squad.... it is as simple as that |

..... But one thing I like about you is; if Iheanacho plays against Zimbabwe and brings A Game on Board, I definitely expect you join the Give-Him-a-Chance Train. I will only canvass for him to be enlisted should he be played as a AM.... as a deputy to Iwobi |

andrew444: I disagree with you on this, such will only affect a lazy player, iheanacho him self knows he is not doing well so why will dropping him affect him instead of that to bolster him to fight back?
France coach keep on snubbing lacazette but does that stop him from doing well at arsenal?
What about aymeric laporte? dude will easily make any team in the world but deschamps keep on ignoring him but does that stop him from being on of the best defender in the epl? why doesn't he feel rejected?
A strong and ambitious player will always fight back unfortunately nacho is not an ambitious player.... he could not hire a personal trainer and engage extra training hours to regain his place in the epl only manage engage a personal trainer when it was obvious he won't be making the afcon list |

Oasis007: Nah..... Psychologically it's gonna be a big blow for him to handle, a big Setback and can affect his development as a Player. He's gonna feel abandoned, he's gonna feel dejected and rejected.
He's part of the Squad from the Beginning, thus it's appropriate he makes the final List at the Expense of the Newbies. appropriate you must be kidding me... the guy should be dropped for more serious players....making the team list should be based on merit and not sentiment. same was used to omit Aina for the old pa elderson the last time.... |

Danielnino00: I'm not talking about this season.. I'm talking about the super eagles.. of what use is it if Aina wins the serie A player of the season but still can't replicate such good performance in the GWG?
Player selection in every national team is usually based on sentient.. Why did Deschamps drop Lacazette fot Giroud at the world cup? Why did Germany drop Sane? Why did Portugal drop Nelson Semedo? why did Belgium drop Nainngolan?? ..Its all based on the coach preference.. and it was glaring to all that Aina didn't do well..
So I ask u again, mention one good game he has had in the GWG to prove that he deserves a starting shirt!! you're so funny... when last did you watch Aina play for the super eagles.... for a player who was still playing for Chelsea academy about 2-3 years ago and now having a full season in a renowned league like seria A...should make anyone rethink that these season and the regular playtime he has enjoyed will definitely influence his super eagles performance... please watch him play first...before you rate shehu who barely can make a good cross above him.... if AINA was not good why would clubs like floretina and torino wanna sign him? you Nigerians barely watch seria A and league one but you're always the first to judge this players |

Oasis007: .......Strictly personal Opinion.
If I have my way, I will definitely drop Onuachu and Samuel from the List. I'm dropping the both because their departments are choked up; too many Wingers and Strikers in the Squad.
I will go with Ighalo, Osimhen and Iheanacho as Strikers. Onyekuru, Chuks, Simon and Musa as Wingers. Truth be told, Iheanacho would make the final cut, and perhaps could turn out the best for the Eagles as a Super-sub.
************************************************* I am not Rohr, but I think with the Calibre of Players we have in the Squad, I will play 4 - 2 - 3 - 1 Formation at AFCON.
Uzoho would man the Posts as first choice GK. The Quartet of Aina(RB), Balogun(CB), Ekong(CB) and Collins(LB) manning the Defence.
In Midfield, I'll play a Pivot of Mikel and Ndidi as DMs. While Simon would play as LW, Iwobi as CAM and Chukwueze as RW.
Osimhen will lead the Line as the lone Striker.
On the Bench, Awaziem, Shehu, Onyekuru, Musa, Iheanacho, Igbalo, Ezenwa shall be making the Cut.
If I need to sub off Osimhen, Ighalo would be my point of Call. If I need to sub off Iwobi, Iheanacho would come in for him. For the Wingers, Musa and Onyekuru are waiting to grab the Opportunity. Musa would be a direct Replacement for Chukwueze, while Onyekuru would be deputizing for Simon.
For Fullbacks, Shehu is definitely reserved to cover up as well as for the DMs because of his versatility. Awaziem would cover up for the CBs.
If I need to sub off Collin, Shehu would be subbed in to play RB while Aina would be moved to LB. If it's Aina I need to sub, then it's all good for Shehu to be a direct Replacement.
Note: if you want to quote this Post, kindly sheath your Sword, don't bring Dagger either. Be civil to criticize or critique it. Thanks. I love this set up...so sweet. how I wish ROHR can adopt something like this.... so much sense in it and including the sub |

Icon4s: I wasn't even opportuned to watch the game and this is because football watching is not allowed where I am presently. . And please don't ask me where
But I have seen enough of the team from the group stage games.
Good Luck to the Players. Contrary to most peeps views, I expect to see some of them in the SE and U23 teams in not so distant future.
And as for Aigbogun, he is not a good coach and also a poor tactician and should never be given any national team job for the mean time. His team doesn't have the Nigerian flair and flavor.
And to the teaming true Nigerian fans we salute your courage, patience and enthusiasm despite the team not living up to expectations.
As for winning the U20 title we have failed. But as far as players assessment is concerned we have used this team as an opportunity to evaluate the readiness of some players to make the national team. The U23 team is another opportunity for us and we must optimize it.
The home based players will always be the bedrock of our U20teams and so the NFF and NPFL really need to work together for teams to have well drilled youth teams who are also not age cheats. This will ensure we start the screening process with the right set of players.
We move on. we have not moved on oga icon... which homebased players be the bedrock of the under 20 team? let the best players irrespective of where they play be picked and be given equal chances.... Aigbogun was a fraud... |
