This is an emerging disease and we have to thread carefully. Let’s not throw the baby away with the water in the tub. It is a frustrating and disappointing situation to be in for many, however we must not drop our guides. There have been several instances of new outbreaks in places that opened too early. Examples include Wahun China, South Korea and Germany.
Remember a few of the initial myths about this virus that have been naturally debunked? it can’t survive in African, it can’t affect black people, it can’t affect young people etc.
Some of the concerns regarding this novel disease is that not a lot is known about its nature. Scientists are still struggling with undestanding and are learning the disease process.
Just of recent did we learned that assymptomatic people could transmit the virus.
Just of recent did we learned that even after treatment, people could be reinfected.
Just of recent did did we learned that children are showing signs of syndrome that might be related to the virus
Just of recent did we learn that it can survive on a surface for about three days.
There is no prove yet that people would acquire immunity after being cured of the virus.
So, we can’t afford to throw caution in the wind, because of what to eat because only the living do eat.
Over 3mn data gathered from over 250 countries cannot be wrong, this virus is emerging agreed, we have to thread carefully agreed, but locking snd opening up the economy at will, can only achieve 2 things 1. Allow the virus to spread faster within the community, with lowered immunity as a result of inactivity coupled with the fact that Nigerians will only observe the lockdown in breach, settle policemen and continue your waka, large crowd keeping vigil as a result of one million boys etc you can imagine the consequences 2. Kill the economy, massive job losses, a lot more people dying of hunger, diseases because of lack of money to buy drugs or take a transport to hospitals, chaos, violence, suicide, domestic violence, psychosis(a lot of Nigerians are suffering from this but are suppressing it with drugs, many of these people have not been able to access their drugs for a while now) imagine the overall risks.

Cutting off the head is not an effective cure for headaches, no death is better than others, countries that refused to lockdown are not doing worse than those who did, states like Kogi and cross river that defied the others are not witnessing corpses on the street as doomsday prophesy implied. Lets not cut off our nose just to spite the head!

Did you know that influenza killed about 50 million people and affected over 500 million worldwide? Just between 1918 and 1919. The reason is because there was no lockdown and social distancing.

The situations are still the same, mankind is fighting an unseen enemy.
There is a choice to be made; good health or economic well-being?
Igbos who are know for their pursuit for economic well being still recognized that “ndu ka aku”
Why are you talking of what happened a 100 years ago, when we have current data and very goood insights into the characteristics of this virus, it is nowhere as deadly as Ebola, if it were so the proverbial corpses on the street would be taken place now, data suggests that even in the worst climes this covid 19 has a low morbidity rate, in fact according to NCDC 80 percent of infected individuals will show no symptoms while 97 per cent will recover by themselves even without any drugs... the question is “Is it worth destroying the largest economy in Africa over... THINK SOMALIA, it is when you have a full stomach that you will care about corona, have u ever seen a baby die of hunger? You will know that there are worst things than corona... in Venezuela bank managers were eating from the refuse dumps...Nigeria that cannot revive NEPA for donkey years can not revive a dead economy, the economy is not something to toy with any how!

Lockdown is like taking injections, it’s painful but saves life.
Unfortunately no one likes pain, although it’s necessary.
People would always go for the less painful choices and as such, the result from this online vote might not be the best course of action to take.
Which lockdown? Pray which country has solved this corona issue with lockdown? Lockdown is not the solution if it is people would have stopped dying in the USA, during the last lockdown wasnt the rate of infection and death increasing? After the ease of lockdown hasnt the rate of death decreased, please think outside the box, lockdown is not a panacea, if you destroy the economy you will realize that your fear of death is only because you are comfortable, in the face of total chaos, you will look for death! STOP PLAYING WITH THE ECONOMY THINK VENEZUELA! THINK ZIMBABWE!!

You are damn funny, Did you just say use facemasks? Don't you go out on the streets to see how non compliant Lagosians are? A lot of people do not value their lives thereby putting the lives of those who value their lives at risk!

The only language Nigerians understand is "Force" we gotta learn the hard way , we have sworn to be defiant and non compliant then we have to be locked up once again so as to protect those who are vulnerable from getting infected !

You also talk about the economy! Awww what a kind way to show how much you love the economy, ECONOMY MY FOOT! T
The economy u love so much is being manhandled by the ruling elits who plunder and loot from the proceeds of the economy, while the poor man on the street is left to die!

My parting words to you seun DO NOT WORRY SO MUCH ABOUT THE ECONOMY BECAUSE WHEN THE ECONOMY GOES DOWN , GOVERNMENT KNOWS HOW TO REVIVE THE ECONOMY, WORRY ABOUT YOUR LIFE AND THE LIVES OF THOSE YOU LOVE BECAUSE WHEN THEY ARE LOST, GOVERNMENT HAS GOT NO CLUE ON HOW TO REVIVE THEM.

A HEALTHY LIFE IS A HEALTHY ECONOMY!
So you would rather destroy the economy of the country just because people aren't listening? What kind of shallow thinking is this for God's sake, cutting the nose just to spite the face? Is that even a strategy?

Whether you agree or not, Coro Coro is already in Kogi state.

Although I am not totally in support of NCDC actions in Kogi state, Kogi Gov should come out clean and tell us how a state like Kogi, surrounded by states with cases of coronavirus, is coronavirus free.

When Mrs Gates stated her fear concerning Africa, many Africans almost crucified her, but tell me if she has not been proven right today...
How has Mrs gates been proven right? Number of deaths is 150 out of 200 million people compare that with over 60k deaths in her own country!

Those writers trying hard to white wash a rotten sepulcher must think all Nigerians are idiots. Abba Kyari died from a disease he contracted while usurping another man's function, he could have survived if the ministry of health had taken quick delivery of ventilators but guess what? He had moved all approvals for purchasing anything needed by the ministry of health to the ministry of agriculture just because of his hatred for the former minister of health.

He killed himself fa, and we do not have any sympathy for him and members of his thieving cabal they all deserve to die a miserable death.

This MUST be a bad joke.

Yoruba Moslems have nothing in Nigeria with which to MARGINALISE Yoruba Christians. Except the Christian is in fact a PRACTISING ChrIslam.
No one have ever tried to stop the spread of Islam and failed never, if the Europeans have tried it they would have suceeded, even today if the the world powers try it, they sure will suceed, No moslem country is a world power, they dont have the technological capabilities to even withstand any fight from the world powers.

But you know why the world powers will not gry to stop islam? Because islam is not a threat to them, forget terrorism here and there, islam by its tenet make it easy to subdue and rule over the masses easily, which world power will not like that?

America and Saudi Arabia are the best of friends, despite America claiming to be God's own country dominated majorly by Christian pentecostals but they are in joint partnership with Saudi Arabia because moslems are usually more subservient than Christians who have the tendency to be quite rebellious if they believe their leaders are not living up to their billing.

You cant compare apples and oranges please. No doubt, OBJ was a far far better economic manager, but 1999 was not the same thing as 2015. In 1999, a man could have lived comfortably off a salary of 20k, but it isn't the same thing as today. Nigeria may have had a forex reserve of $5bn in 1999, but that amount is almost equivalent to $50bn of today considering the sharp increase in forex demand over the last 20 years (Nigeria's forex demand today is roughly more than 10 times what it was in 1999)...

In 1999, Nigeria wasn't importing all of its petroleum products, which is currently the biggest drain on our fx today. In 1999, how many ordinary Nigerians were going overseas for studies or medicare compared to today (these thing consume forex)? How many people were buying things off Alibaba, Ebay and other foreign market places? How many Nigerians were into foreign online or importation businesses requiring forex? We didnt even have internet banking in Nigeria back in 1999, let alone the visa or mastercards which everyone has in their pockets today. In 1999, Nigeria could literally almost survive with a closed border and zero forex because we largely grew our own food, produced our fabric, refined our fuel etc; but today, even the most basic food items like rice, medicines, petrol, paper, polythene bags, basic fabrics, handekerchiefs etc. we import all of it. But you expect the $5bn reserve of 1999 to be equivalent to what it is today?

If OBJ was president in 2015, when oil prices took a sharp dip, and when the savings in reserves were dangerously low (in relation to the fx demand of the time), Nigeria would have also gone into that same recession. Only difference is that an OBJ may have handled it more efficiently and it wouldn't have lasted that long. Contrary to your claim on 4%, the gdp growth rate as at Q2 2015 (when PDP left) was 2.4%; Yes, following the oil price crash which began in late 2014, the much touted gdp growth rate of 7% crashed to 2.4% before Buhari came to power (you can easily google and verify that). Now may I remind you that this was under the watch of a powerful NOI (who also worked with OBJ), and guess what? oil prices were still over $60/barrel and $10bn was spent from the reserves (between Sept 2014 and May 2015) to support the economy, but yet exchange rate still crashed from N160 to N230, gdp rate crashed also to 2.4%. With a forex reserve of $28.6bn (exact figure as at May 29th, 2015), and with no more room to take money from reserves to support the economy and with oil prices still progressively crashing further to $28, what magic did you expect a 'dull' Buhari to do then? It's very easy for humans to loosely commit the fallacy 'post-hoc ergo propter hoc' (i.e. "Pmb became president, then recession came; so therefore, recession came because pmb became president). But we're all educated abeg, let's apply some more analytical thinking instead of just weak political/emotional conclusions. Buhari takes all the blame for not being able to have done wonders after 5 years, but saying recession of 2016 was caused by him is just a weak analogy (which majority of Nigerians are guilty of).
Ok i am trying to see things more from your own Lens, in 1999 forex demand was relatively low agreed, but i disagree that $5bn will equivalent of $50bn now, year on year inflation rate of the US is less than 2% adjusting for inflation and other metrics the value of $5bn in 1999 should be about $6bn now, the dollar is a relatively stable currency.

But i am happy you agree with me that a more robust management of the economy could have at least minimized the duration of the recession.

So people still make this ignorant argument even in 2020? The pipelines that were burst during OBj, yaradua and GEj tenures, by how much did it affect Nigeria's oil production volume?.... Did they also happen at a time following a sharp drop in global oil prices?... You say oul price was $9 during OBJs time, how much was Nigeria's forex demand then compared to 2015? How much of fuel was Nigeria importing then compared to 2015?... How much of importation was Nigeria doing in 1999 compared to 2015 (when even basic items like toothpick and waterproof bags were being imported)?.... If recession was only caused by pmb incompetence and not oil price, why exactly did the 7% gdp rate you talked about fall to 2% before pmb came in power? (obviously a lot of folks like yourself dont know that).
The GDP growth rate was at 4% not 2% by the time Buhari came to power, lets even assume that it was 2%, Obasanjo met a foreign reserve of just about $5bn dollar with a massive debt of about $34Bn and oil was selling @$9 per barrel yet the economy never went into recession, instead it grew, Buhari met N30bn in foreign reserve, debt of about $12Bn and oil was selling circa $30 yet within 6 months the economy went into recession, pray tell me if not Buhari's incompetence what else could be responsible for that, especially considering that the first time the same Buhari became Head of state the nation's economy entered a recession at about the same time as it did during his second coming?

Wike! Wike!! Wike!!!
When did the Federal Government give 10 billion grant to Lagos?
Millitants were breaking pipes under Obasanjo, Yar adua and even GEJ Nigeria never went into recession, in fact the GDP was growing at 7% one of the fastest in the world, Nigeria went into recession largely due to Buhari's incompetence. Oil price was $9 when Obasanjo increased mininum wage massively in 1999. Oil price during Abacha's era was just around $8 yet as bad as Abacha was coupled with sanctions Nigeria never entered recession.

Now shut down Lagos ports and see Nigeria collapse within weeks, Buhari was not a fool when he categorically exempted Lagos ports from being closed down.

I still remain Ada ogwashi cool
Awolowo also have roads named after him in Abuja, but please and please how many streets in the whole of the east and Abuja, have more clout, is more strategic and have half as much visibility as any of dose? You know what? On the average 100 times more igbo uses those roads than the number of Yorubas or any one else that are aware of all those audio monuments you mention for Zik!

It is not the number of monuments that matter, it is how strategic they are, as i type, millions of your brother's livelihood depend on those streets, am not sure a yoruba man will care if they ban him from visiting any of your so called Zik's monuments, but millions of igbos will starve if they stop them from visiting those roads in Lagos.
