Zahra29: The uncertainty is definitely not nice, however they have to be responsive, agile, same as leading organisations. If they have laws in place for years which allows them to plan based on the noted trends, and then these trends change dramatically, surely it would be reasonable for them (and any company) to adjust based on the new patterns.
If these patterns change or revert back, then they will likely adjust their policies again to suit. Unfortunately migrants do get caught out in the process but it's not vindictive (apart maybe from T May - she was on a next level lol) - it's largely time and chance. We move |

Ticha: PSW in Australia is between 2 to 6 years depending on course and location of study. Majority is 2 - 3 years (degree and masters students). It is not a blanket 6 years yet. https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/temporary-graduate-485/post-study-work#About
Their visa fees are definitely cheaper although health insurance costs are astronomical.
Students are now back to working a max of 40 hours a fortnight which averages 20 hours a week unless they work in certain regional health care sectors. The full time work for students was to fill worker shortages when the borders were shut for 2+ years. Still, 0 considerations were given to students during or after COVID. I know people use their IHS but I am yet to use mine once (I have not even registered with a GP since moving) Instead, school fees were increased twice for my school, visa application fees went up, IHS fees went up twice within 2 years and students were not allowed to work more than 20 hours in the face of obvious inflation. Canada also allowed people to work for more than 20 (I think its still on for those in the country already) but all we hear from UK media is that students this and that. They cried until they left EU, cried when shortage of labor came as a result of leaving, cried when student migrants came to alleviate the labor shortage, cried when nurses came from other countries and now its tears about care workers. I know the next thing is to cry and remove PSW next year, we will see how that turns out Not saying UK is all bad but they need to be a bit flexible and try to have a set in stone migration policy, not this uncertainty. It is their country though and they can do as they like until we fix ours Btw, welcome back |

Zahra29: It was the opposite for me. It guzzled electricity but I only felt the heat if I sat on it It was a top end brand as well with great reviews, so not sure why my experience was different. I returned it and reverted to my tried and trusted fan heater. Oh boy. The fan heater smells sometimes like hot iron... And it can cause fire if left on for too long |

ehizario2012: This thread is for Nigerians who have migrated and now live in the UK. Even though people yet in the country can still get valuable information from here, I think we should deeply discuss how those who are already in the country can stabilize, get ILR or move to other countries. It would be an unheard of situation for Nigerians already in the UK to now be deported. Lol. But seriously, it's an issue to be looked at. LOL I think its pretty simple at this point. You can go the PSW and try to find a sponsored job in your field for one year. If it doesn't work, you can go the Healthcare route ... Or just go the Healthcare route and save £2900 for PSW I just think the new rules will just make companies choose local folks. If a job is offering 35K, instead of increasing the salary to 39K and sponsoring you, why not give it to a citizen instead? Also, PR to Canada /Australia, though not exactly easy to get but you can apply and remain in the pipeline. The EB visas for the US are also if you're patient and have the qualifications requured |

profemebee: It isn't just the UK revising immigration policies
The Prime Minister of one of the largest core Anglosphere countries, Australia has said migration policies will be reviewed in the interest of Australians etc. Also mention that they increased their post study visa to 5 years, allowed students to work unlimited hours and their application fee for PSW is considerably lower than that of the UK while at it |

Overthinker: Encouraging someone out there to keep applying for these jobs because that's what this thread did for me. If I wasn't following this thread I would think once I secure a good warehouse job, I should keep it, but I kept applying, different jobs different role and now I have my offer letter for an entry role with a bank. It's not a big salary but promise of growth is enough for me to start from there. Warehouse is an honest job and a good one, but nothing stops us from aiming higher. All the arguments or the fights, all the differing opinions, believe me it goes a long way in helping the new immigrants. So let's keep aiming higher. Congrats bro Do £100,000 giveaway |

Agidipie: Hi, I need a candid advise. I am an international student and would be starting my internship in January 2024, I also would be starting a AWS course this January. I want to buy a laptop, I budgeted £450 pounds for a solid brand new laptop (hp). Been searching online tho, but someone advised I go for a refurbished MacBook on back market or other sites, that it would be better because I would find something great with my budget. What do you guys think And you can drop any site one can find great quality refurbished laptops in uk You don't need a MacBook for AWS courses, a windows pc will do just fine You can get on ebay or Backmarket if you want the MacBook |

profemebee: The same way you say people are hooked on HCA jobs is the same way in America, we've seen people who have lived and paid tax in the States for a while have to either find a job in 60days or leave the country when they lose their jobs..
It happened earlier this year and end of last year when Meta, Twitter, Amazon, etc laid off their staff and immigrant workers with H-1B (skilled worker) had 60 days to find another or leave. If you lose your sponsored job in the UK, does the same not apply? |

profemebee: Not immigrant-friendly? i beg to differ.. and i will use data to back it up
Among the core Anglosphere nations, i.e. 5 of the largest English speaking nations, US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK, the UK isn't that far from countries like USA in terms of % of immigrants to population... just 1% from US..
USA 51m immigrants which accounts for 15% of the population
UK 9.4m immigrants which accounts for 14% of the population
This is despite the countries like US, Canada and Australia being Top10 largest countries in land mass in the world, 2nd, 3rd & 6th respectively.
You can find all the data you need to confirm here:
https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/immigration-by-country
https://www.worldatlas.com/features/countries-by-area.html
So saying they're not immigration-friendly is wrong sha You know what I mean but OK |

Goke7: It's high time the UK takes a cue from other English-speaking Western nations where it segments different kinds of workforce it truly needs and issues visas that will not be tied to any company. $ will be = 1 naira before the UK Gov will try this It's the logical thing to do but the UK has never seemed immigrant-friendly to me unless they have less than 0 options |
