Lexusgs430: I just heard UK universities are withdrawing 9ja students, like tomorrow no dey.........
If you come in on a student visa, ensure you have adequate funds to pay your tuition........ You CANNOT use the payment from a perceived job, to pay your fees (you can only work for 20 hours term time), this fund is not adequate to pay your tuition.......... A friend's brother got into some hot soup about 2 weeks ago. The school immediately sent a mail to home office after the 2nd or 3rd notice. I think he thought they'll rescind everything once he pays cos he was banking on Form A. Even after hustling GBP here and paying, they still locked his account After locking his portal, they told him they can't do anything about it again that he should contact home office himself . Home office sent a mail asking him to leave before December 10, I think He's in Naija now Things may be more strict in 2024. If they ask students to pay complete fees before being granted visa like I heard Ireland does, it will be insane |

There's a problem ooo, inasmuch as we want more friends to Japa here via school route, it's scary that the UK is kinda fully depending on fees to survive!
Something is wrong somewhere and this pattern is not sustainable at all. |

Thewritingnerd: I always avoid making generalizations but speaking for where I stay, it’s truly a literal epidemic! It’s hard to see a white adult in the area I stay that doesn’t smoke!! Even the lecturers, customer support, construction workers, it’s too many worrying number of people who take smoke breaks! So much so that I’ve had to start wearing masks around now, because second-hand smoke na im worse pass!
Those that don’t smoke are recovering smokers, some lecturers don’t even shy away from saying this one. (Not saying it’s a thing to be ashamed of).
Then the teenagers? Oh my God. I am not kidding when I say nearly every young person around here vapes! Sometimes you’ll walk past an empty place and you smell that “flavored-bubblegumey” smell and you just know someone vaped past there not too long ago. They have the fanciest looking vaping tools too, with artsy designs, it’s literally become a culture on these ends.
It’s really really bad that there are already articles being written about “Popcorn Lungs”. LOL she was trying to be politically correct even when facts are obvious They take so many smoke breaks that youll almost want to pretend to be a smoker so you can get some breaks too If you are talking about vaping, how about the Nitrous Oxide that's littered on the streets? Teenagers will enter a train and SK stench will fill the air . Its really really bad |

Thewritingnerd: Lmao God abeg, what exactly did you do? Did you go through your SU?
I already read my school’s Appeal policy and thankfully I already discussed the concerns I had about the lecturer in question with my personal tutor way before we even turned our work in to be marked.
As for the lecturer in question, if I say I don’t know how she got to the position she got to, I’ll be sounding somehow but it calls for worry tbh. First, I’ll be going through with the due procedure before filling the appeal form.
People are saying I’m doing too much as I had a B and just let it go, but besides the fact that I’m pretty confident in my work, it has been a running reputation with the lecturer from past students—high student failure for very showey reasons. It’s why I fully intend to go through with the appeal, if what I can only get from it is bringing the school’s attention to the lecturer’s teaching behavior, I’ll be satisfied.
At least, things will be better for the people coming after us. Well, you can. I did not go through the SU, tried to do it myself In my own case, I followed the assistant lecturer's verbal advice and removed a part of my writeup. A friend who had a similar topic with me used what I removed and had a sexy A (I gave him an outline of what I was planning to write). Sent them a mail pointing out that I was advised to remove some parts which would have helped me but "No evidence, I explain tire". They just told me the exams board would look into it blah blah. The board did not look into it or change their decision so I just let it go Schools are different and yours may turn out in your favor. No harm in trying |

Goodenoch: Exceptions don't invalidate general rules. By this your logic universities should not award grades because it's possible some of the students doing badly have mental breakdowns. Same thing at work - no performance reviews because mental breakdown. Does that make sense to you?
More to the point, it's clear that the policy is just in idea stage and hasn't been fleshed out yet. I know that in the current dispensation people have the opportunity to appeal every decision both at the uni level and also when it comes to dealing with the Home Office, showing mitigating circumstances etc., so I'd expect similar provisions here. That they even thought of this itself is extremely foolish and ridiculous. What will you people not defend ehn? Quick question: which other country in the world does this? |
Travel › Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by hustla(m): 5:36pm On Dec 14, 2023 |
Goodenoch: No. It makes sense.
First, it's in the country's overall interests to ensure people do well in their universities because graduate outcomes affect the ranking of the universities which in turn affects the reputation of the general education sector and thereby impacts the economy and other aspects as well.
Also, from an immigration perspective, it makes sense for the country to want to ensure that only 'high quality' graduates are retained in the economy so they can get a better ROI from each person who's let in as they'll be better educated and can thereby contribute more via work, innovation etc etc. Cynical? Yes, but logical.
In addition, it makes sense for the students because it'll discourage some unis that are essentially degree farms where there's little concern about how students perform as long as they come pay the fees. Some of those unis are really only selling CAS, in my opinion, but that's a topic for another day.
It shouldn't be a problem for most though - after all it has been agreed that Nigeria is sending its 'best and brightest'. I'm sure they'll all make distinctions and graduate in flying colours, policy or no policy. Abi? I'm convinced if they ask some people to sacrifice their siblings to the UK government so they can continue to lick home office's behind, they will willingly do it So, if I had some mental health breakdown during my course, or life happened and I didn't graduate with good grades, make them fling me away abi? After paying nearly x3 what home students pay with 0 student loans or support from the same government.. Abi? I hope its sarcasm sha but just Continue |

Poanan: The policing of grades some schools do it. Not easy unlike before to be scoring anyhow. When i heard What some schools score people. In my school who born u? To the extent that two departments in different schools or faculties as we call it in Nigeria took the case to the student union. I won't mention the school but out of 86 students or so I heard only 7 graduated in a particular course. Many were asked to withdraw. It makes 0 sense As long as the student passes and has not done any malpractice, and has not defaulted with attendance or fees, it should not be the business of the school or home office Na them know sha |
