Not the original post, but just this comment: Yes there was no Nigeria 300 years ago, just as there was no Igbo, Yoruba, Hausas, etc |
ibkaye:Why are you getting confused? I just gave you some of Susscorn's (Respect) attributes. Here they are again: Attributes of Sussicorn (Respect) so far; 1) Half immaterial, half material 2) Born by his father after 3 years manancy (When a man is carrying a baby, a very very rare condition). 3) Half male and half female What is confusing about this? It seems all clear and believable to me. |
tpia:oh boy, oh boy. The sarcasm was wasted on you. Oh dear. |
Where on the planet is the New Jerusalem, mentioned in the NT going to be founded? |
Any views? |
rampant:Are you so easily confused? I wonder why? |
So it is obvious that the is no christian unanimity as to what Grace is? hahaha. |
~Lady~:Lame answer. Yes there was no Nigeria 300 years ago, just as there was no Igbo, Yoruba, Hausas, etc! |
Of course, which sensible woman would not be attracted to a bigger snake? ![]() Now seriously, was there evil before the fall? Genesis 1; 8 Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. 9 And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. |
Which 10 Commandments? |
Nigeria is probably the most religious country in the world outside of the USA. It is ironic that the favorite god in Nigeria is the Abrahamic god from the Middle East traditions. Nigeria's contact with this Abrahamic god is relatively new, no more than about 300 years old. What really persuaded the Nigerian 200 - 300 years ago to abandon their own superstitions and adopt the superstitions of their invaders and colonisations? How would a seventeenth century Nigerian have evaluated the following concepts? What tools or cognitive disciplines did they have to objectively scrutinize the narrative of the Abrahamic gods? 1) Virgin birth 2) Ascension 3) Global Flood 4) Trinity |
olukunle:How do you choose which parts of the bible to stand up for? From the following, what is you basis for select one or rejecting the other? Exodus 20: 13 Thou shall not kill Exodus 31: 15 For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death. Numbers 15: 32 While the Israelites were in the desert, a man was found gathering wood on the Sabbath day. 33 Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly, 34 and they kept him in custody, because it was not clear what should be done to him. 35 Then the LORD said to Moses, "The man must die. The whole assembly must stone him outside the camp." 36 So the assembly took him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the LORD commanded Moses. Matthew 5 17"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven. |
origina9ja:Is it not obvious? |
Missy B:Only because it was the start of the sentence! ![]() |
Missy B:haha. God is dog spelt from behind. |
A_K_O:Amazing! Can god do that? Just like Sussicorn (Respect). |
Great Stuff for your mental elevation. |
keba:Yes, I have no belief in god(s) because I don't know what god(s) is(are). Thus, you could say I am an atheist. |
wirinet:Hello wirinet. Nice to see you are here again. Yes, there is a lot of evidence that the Jews incorporated into their mythologies aspect from the neighboring mythologies. The biblical flood narrative is a case in point, copies and adapted from the Epic of Gilgemesh and some other source. In fact if you read the narrative carefully you would see that it is in fact two stories splices into one in the bible. For instance, one account has the flood lasting 40 days/night, another lasting about a year. One has the bird that Noah sent out as a raven, the other a dove. One has the animals taken in sets of seven for clean animals, the other as pairs. How to you account for these difference. If interested check out what is called "The documentary Hypothesis" for a detailed account of how the Old Testament was put together. |
onyinye2:What do you mean by the word sin? I do not understand the word. Can you help by defining it for me? |
Missy B:How do you want me to change the purpose of my question? Shall I agree with you first before you will answer the questions. Tell me, what attitude shall I display before you will answer them. I shall then preface each questions that I want answered with an indication of such attitude. |
keba:Well, in a way, you are right. It is really hard to live in a community in which you have a minority and unpopular opinion. But that does not worry me in the least. But I don't consider myself as an outcast from the majority community. I just subject all my views and opinions to the best critical appraisal I possibly could. If that means I cannot reach a decision for lack of the relevant evidence, so be it. I prefer to suspend judgment until the evidence comes in. |
keba:What a bizarre question! An outcast from what/where? In fact, are you an outcast from Islam, or Judaism? |
Sussicorn is both male and female |
keba:You have got to start with one. I choose to start with what I am familiar with and that is Christianity, a culture in which I was raised. The other traditions (islam, hindu, budhaism, judaism) are equally wrong. The have absolutely NO evidence for their claims. Look, if you have any evidence from any religion, put it on the table and let us examine it in the light of reason. I await such evidence with bated breath. |
Missy B:If we are not allowed to judge, then why do all societies have a form of code of law that judges its citizens, prisons to detaining miscreants, and all sorts of legislation? How would the world be without us judging and holding others to account? |
elctroguru:You are right. They daren't, because it would expose the bankruptcy of the beliefs, if not their state of cognitive dissonance. |
