Not a question of feeling, it's just bad. I used to be a playa until one day a girl I loved so much cheated on me with one dude in Dallas and i tell you, it did hurt me badly.
Ok, let me turn the question round. Supposing you knew as a certainly that your "loved" one did NOT have sex with the other party, but was more interested in his mind and skills (sense of humour, knowledge, mannerisms, art, dancing, etc.) In short, this other man is a general good guy, bon vivant who also enjoys the company of your girl in a pure platonic sense. How would you have felt?

Christianity EtcRe: Oyedepo Curses Robbers Who Raided Canaanland by huxley(m): 9:09am On Aug 04, 2008
THE presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Ministries, aka Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, on Friday reacted to the robbery attack on the banks situated with the premises of the Canaanland.

Oyedepo gave the robbers 24 hours to retrace their steps and surrender to the police.

Oyedepo admonished the robbers, who threw the whole church community and the entire ancient Ota community into pandemonium with the robbery operation, that failure to hand themselves over to the police would mean their death.

In the words of Oyedepo, "I give them 24 hours, unless this place does not belong to God."

The Bishop, who was undaunted by the attack, made similar pronouncement at the last Shiloh when he cursed thieves at the ground.

He said whosoever stole even a kobo would run mad. Those involved instantly dropped the stolen items, while others that failed to do so ran mad 24 hours after the warning.

Meanwhile, the situation at the Canaanland and the entire community has returned to normal as people were seen on Friday going about their normal businesses, while some were discussing the incident in low tones.
This raises a rather interesting interesting question, namely: What is more effective - Prayers or Curses?

Has he prayed publicly for the robbers to return the money? If he has, is he confident his prayers would work?

Why has he resorted to casting curses on the robbers? Is it because the prayers have failed to work, or are these just empty threats?

What do you think Jesus would have done in similar circumstances - issues curses, prayers, some detective work, etc?

Christianity EtcRe: Are The Ten Commandments Really Necessary? by huxley(m): 10:03pm On Aug 03, 2008
Yet again, Christians are so confused. The commandments in Exodus 20 were superseded by those in Exodus 31 after Moses smashed the first set of 10C given to him by god. So really Exodus 31 should be the binding set. Bur do you ever hear Christian talking about this?

Maybe I should ask you this question too!
When did you stop practising chrisitianity? I mean how long has it been now?
I started having doubts about Christianity from about the age of 15. The last time I went to church on my own volition I was about 13/14, which is also the last time I prayed. That is nearly 25 years ago.

Gamine, I know you from the Religion section.  You are trapped in a traditionalistic and rituallistic way of thinking.  What a shame most people are not able to break out of this mold, which is a relic from our primitive past.

Then what's the point of having her as a 'partner'? She's basically partners with everyone else, what about you wife? you don't mind her having sex with anyone she decides to have sex with?  undecided
Do you decide what sort of food your partner eats, what books she read, what film she watches, etc?  You may make recommendations, but does she have to follow your will?

RomanceRe: Relationship/sexual Jealousy by huxley(op): 1:20pm On Aug 01, 2008
Seun:
huxley, I don't think you will feel the way you think you will feel. Our feelings are governed by hormones; and you will feel the same way other men feel in the same situation. You can control how you act, but you will experience jealousy same as everyone else.
I see your point, but this mental position has come about after many years of considering the issue. So I have already geared myself up for that.

However, I would be most disappointed if my partner (who is my soul-mate, intellectual-mate, social-mate, etc) were to dessert me permanently and find another partner. All I am saying is that it is OK for them to have casual sex with other people she may fancy and like. I don't own her, but I may really like and enjoy her company and her mind which I may miss were she to leave me.

Huxley,

Kindly pass your girlfriend to me - i will take all necessary precautions - i will even film the act so that you can watch over a cup of ea or you can mastubate while you watch - kinly give my number - 08035533345
Fallacious premise.  I don't own my partner.  They should be capable of deciding who the want to have sex with.  That is thier business and not mine.
RomanceRelationship/sexual Jealousy by huxley(op): 1:01pm On Aug 01, 2008
How would you feel upon learning that your partner has had casual (protected) sex with someone else other than you? Well, by and large, other than surprise if she had never before expressed such desire, I would not feel heart-broken, jealous or disappointed. I would be largely unperturbed, for this is justr simple casual sex and as long as all precautions are taken to avert unwanted consequences (like diseases, pregnancy, etc), I'm cool with that.

I think sex has been put on too high a pedestal by contemporary society to the extend that we have lost all sense of proportion as to what it really is. A lot of the "problem" society faces with sex and sexually arises out of the fact that humans have made it into an artificial tool to manipulate all sorts of political, societal ends. Modern humans now have a brain far advanced from the kluge we had when we roamed the plains of the savannah. As important as it is, sex is a base desire, just like food, and we would do well by returning it to that position.

However, friendship, cammaraderie, companionship, the sense of connectedness are far grander sentiments than that of sexual fidelity.

What do you guys think?

@huxley
Pardon me!! But do I have to explain everything to you.
Cant you see the relationship between curiosity(questioning), knowledge, and belief or conviction. Haven't you ever taken any psychology class?

Curiosity is a desire for knowledge, and out of knowledge comes belief or conviction.

Should I explain furtherhuh? Okay, I will:
One who is curious of something shows that he desires the knowledge of that particular thing and also that he has the ability to posses that knowledge.
Sometimes questions arise out of a knowledge that we have, slumbering, inside us. By questioning, we awaken this knowledge that is already inside us but only slumbering.
There is no knowledge that questioning did not precede. And their is no belief or conviction that knowledge did not precede.
Therefore, sometimes, for one to question something, means that he already posses the knowledge but have not yet fatformed or deciphered it. By questioning he will gradually decipher the knowledge that already lies in his subconscious mind.

I hope this is clear enough. I can go further if you want.
Am afraid, I think you are wrong again. Even on the basic definition of knowledge (which is true and justified belief or assertion) you are wrong. So until a "fact" is considered true and justified it is not knowledge.

If on a hunch something or some proposition is turns out right , that does not constitute knowledge. Example, Are there an even or an odd number of stars in the universe? We know one of these position is right, but we have no knowledge about that. None of these position can be justified.

So if a child has a hunch about god, which they will have learnt from their community, that does not constitute knowledge of god.
Christianity EtcRe: Natural Born Atheist by huxley(op): 12:22am On Aug 01, 2008
justcool:
You are very correct.
Belief in the existence or the supreme creator is natural with humans. Even a child that was never taught of God, once the child reaches a certain age, he or she will start asking questions like: "who created everything?" "How did the world came in to being?" and before you knew it he will soon find a theory that answers his questions or keeps his mind at rest.
This desire to know, to question and to investigate is a gift in humans, or a product of the human spirit which animals do not posses. Hence animals do not ask such questions or wonder about the origin of their life. They lack the ability to comprehend such knowledge, which on the spirit can comprehend.
This Spirit in humans is a gift from the Almighty; it is the breath of God in man. It is what makes us humans; it is the real man himself.
TO ask who created everything is not to an acknowledge of god, is it. The child id merely asking exploratory questions about nature.

Is it sinful to use incense?
