Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, has reacted to reports that former acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, gave him N4billion. Reports had claimed that Osinbajo also allegedly gave instructions to Magu to release some of the recovered loots. He explained that Osinbajo has never been involved in such shady activities. He said, “Inundated by wide circulation of Fake News about VP’s purported involvement in some EFCC recovery billions, please rest assured they’re all LIES: calculated to confuse and concocted to smear Prof. Osinbajo’s image. “The VP hasn’t and will never be involved in any such shady activities.” https://dailypost.ng/2020/07/08/efcc-osinbajo-clears-air-on-receiving-n4billion-from-magu/

Politics / APC Group Blast Gov. Yahaya Bello For Denying Existence Of COVID-19 In Nigeria by iamogunlowo(m): 8:14am On Jul 03, 2020 |
APC Mandate Defenders has reacted to what it described as a series of dishonorable statements coming from the governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello denying the existence of COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria. In a statement released to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday by the National Publicity Secretary of the group, Ifeanyi Emeka, the group said it has been ignoring the governor because his views are insignificant but now decides to respond to him because of the lives of many Nigerians that would be saved. The group said COVID-19 is purely science and data-driven which does not require political statements to sound politically correct in moments of a national health emergency. “We are still surprised that in spite of the fact that a Kogi man in the person of Engr. Suleiman Achimugu was the first victim of COVID-19 in Nigeria, Gov. Bello is still denying the existence of the virus in the country,” the statement said.

The Managing Director of Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Capt. Rabiu Yadudu said the agency would implement flight spacing at all its airports in order to ensure total safety once the airspace is reopened for flight services. This is as he said about 85 to 90 per cent of the agency’s staff had been trained by World Health Organisation (W/H.O) on operational and response time on COVID-19 pandemic, including 100 per cent of its staff at Owerri Airport. Speaking with our correspondent in Lagos over the weekend, Yadudu declared the flight spacing was not to disrupt any of the airline’s schedules, but to ensure total safety of passengers, airline staff and others within the airport environment. https://thenationonlineng.net/aviation-restart-faan-to-implement-flight-spacing-at-airports/

Politics / Transport Workers React To Fg’s Decision To Lift Inter-state Movement by iamogunlowo(m): 8:35am On Jun 30, 2020 |
The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has commended the Federal Government for lifting the ban on Inter-State Travel in the country. Mr Kabiru Yau, Acting General Secretary of the NURTW, in an interview on Monday, June 29, however, called on the government to subsidise the cost of transportation for motorists. According to Yau, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) guidelines by the government require the motorists to carry fewer passengers than normal on each trip; thereby reducing the income of the motorist. “We thank the Federal Government for lifting the ban; it is a welcome development because it is over three months that our members have been out of jobs and without income. “At least, our people will now start working and get something to feed their families. “But at the same time, due to the spacing in the vehicles which will require the drivers to carry only nine or ten instead of the usual 18 passengers; the income of the drivers will be reduced. “So we want the government to help subsidise the cost of those passengers that we will not be carrying or we will have to increase our transport fare. “This is because the money that will be generated from the reduced number of passengers will barely cover the cost of fuel for the journey that will be embarked on. “So what is the gain? What will you give to the owner of the vehicle? So, the government should please help us look into this matter,’’Yau added. https://palitomedia.com.ng/2020/06/30/nurtw-reacts-to-fgs-decision-to-lift-inter-state-movement/ |

Business / 8 Annoying Money Situations That Drives Every Nigerian Crazy by iamogunlowo(m): 8:35pm On Jun 29, 2020 |
At some stage in every Nigerian’s life, a negative source of stress is money-related. Since this usually unfolds in different ways, we decided to do a post about these experiences. 1. When it’s Monday morning and you have only #1000 notes on you It hits harder when you’re too broke to order a ride and the bus conductors explicitly said they have no change. 2. When your bank debits you for some strange charge and you can’t withdraw the last 1k in your account You will curse your bank, but eventually you will use what’s left to buy airtime. 3. When you finish eating at a restaurant and you find out that their POS machine is not working What’s all this? 4. When you transfer money to someone but they haven’t gotten it after 3 hours Let’s be guided, abeg. 5. When you find torn notes inside the change a conductor gave you I hate my life! 6. When you can’t reach your onigbese on the day they promise to return your money Wait, what’s happening? Did they get in an accident? 7. When your parents decide that you’re now an adult and cut you off totally I didn’t ask to be born oh! 8. When Naira falls against Dollars and you have to pay more on your monthly subscriptions OMG, which kinda country is these |

Travel / With Flights Banned, Son Sails Solo Across Atlantic To Reach Father, 90 by iamogunlowo(m): 9:34am On Jun 29, 2020 |
Days after Argentina canceled all international passenger flights to shield the country from the new coronavirus, Juan Manuel Ballestero began his journey home the only way possible: He stepped aboard his small sailboat for what turned out to be an 85-day odyssey across the Atlantic. The 47-year-old sailor could have stayed put on the tiny Portuguese island of Porto Santo, to ride out the era of lockdowns and social distancing in a scenic place largely spared by the virus. But the idea of spending what he thought could be “the end of the world” away from his family, especially his father who was soon to turn 90, was unbearable. “I didn’t want to stay like a coward on an island where there were no cases,” Mr. Ballestero said. “I wanted to do everything possible to return home. The most important thing for me was to be with my family.” https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/28/world/americas/coronavirus-argentina-sailor.html?action=click&module=Spotlight&pgtype=Homepage 2 Likes

Politics / Demolition Of Embassy Building: Ghana Will Face Consequences – Nigerian Reps by iamogunlowo(m): 2:44pm On Jun 22, 2020 |
The House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs says Ghana must face the consequences of the demolition of the Nigerian Embassy staff quarters in Accra. The chairman, Yusuf Buba, in a statement on Monday, said what happened was an external aggression that infringed the International Rights of Nigeria. The country had claimed that unknown persons carried out the act. Buba called the demolition a gross violation of all conventions and treaties on diplomatic relations and friendship between both countries. He quoted a witness who narrated how a heavy-duty bulldozer arrived at the diplomatic premises at late hours of the night and broke through the gate. The bulldozer demolished four units of the nearly-completed four-bedroom block of flats. Buba noted that several frantic efforts were made by members of the Nigeria Mission to report what was ongoing to both the Ghana Police Service and their Foreign Affairs Ministry. He lamented that “no reprieve, we were told, came the way of the Nigerian diplomats. We further learnt that, even when the Police finally arrived at the scene, they could not do anything”. Buba said the House of Reps stand resolute to do everything within its powers to review, re-appraise and re-examine the Nigeria-Ghana relationship. “We shall deploy all legislative means, including exploring and invoking all necessary rules, regulations and instruments that guide our common membership in other parliaments, to compel Ghana to answer for this act of gross violation”, he vowed. https://dailypost.ng/2020/06/22/demolition-of-embassy-building-ghana-will-face-consequences-nigerian-reps/ |

Three University guys dodged exam because they did not study. They came up with a plan, got themselves dirty using grease, then went to see the Lecturer. ”Sir we are sorry we couldn't make it to the exam. We attended a wedding and on our way back the car broke down thus we became so dirty as you can see". The Lecturer understood and gave them three days to prepare. After three days, they went to the Lecturer very ready for the exam because they had studied. The Lecturer put them in three separate classes with only four questions in the exam paper; 1. Who got married? (25 marks) 2. Where was the reception held? (25mks) 3. Where exactly did the car break down? (25mks) 4.What type of car broke down? (25mks) Marking scheme: your answers must be the same.!!! They are still in the exam hall as we speak! Lesson : The truth shall set you free.. |
