Travel / Re: Is Life Really Better Abroad? by Ib(f): 4:19pm On Nov 15, 2006
From what i've seen, the people who relocated abroad in their later years 36 and above find it easier to adjust and accept life abroad. My mum, brother and i came to England in 2001. Sometimes, i tell my mum about my plans to relocate to naija, she tells me i say so because i didn't experience life in Nigeria as an independent adult ie, going to work, running a business, buying books, paying school fees, buying rents, feeding a family of 5, buying clothes, paying hospital bills and the other general hustling that comes with adulthood.

And the more i think about it, the more i understand what she means. The bottom line is what exactly it is you desire in life. I earn more money than my mum at the moment, but i know she has never been happier. At least she doesnt complain of high blood pressure as she used to in Naija. She is involved in her church life, enjoys hosting her friends and has a happier life by far. She really is content. She tells me she doesnt have to go to work and face lagos traffic and get home at 8pm only to sleep in darkness!!!.

The other thing i realise is after visiting Naija about 5 times since i relocated is that much as i desire to go home, groove with my friends and do all the fun things i used to enjoy whilst i was there, once i spend about one week there, i begin to get very bored!!!!. And a lot of my friends have told me they feel the same way as well. I mean there's only so much of traffic, scorching heat, undrinkable water, so much noise, mosquito bites, fake lives, apparent display of arrogance and ignorance, bribery, the spin and corruption etc that one can take before you begin to get fed up.

Or maybe its all the time i've spent living abroad that has opened to my eyes to how civilisation really works, i dont know. I know a lot of people who have relocated to Naija and only managed to survive the rat race for about 2 years and moved back to England.

In conclusion, it depends on what exactly you want out of life. Some people are content with paying so much taxes and living a modest life in safety, security and health. Some want different. I might try and spend about 2 months in Naija and see how it works out.

HOME IS WHERE YOU MAKE IT

Jokes Etc / Passenger And Conductor by Ib(f): 12:18pm On Jun 13, 2006
When a certain Mr. John Akpabio boarded a Cele-Ijesha-bound commercial bus at Oshodi, he never bargained that he would later find himself at CMS in central Lagos. But that was exactly what happened. This is because no sooner had the bus taken off from Oshodi than he dozed off, oblivious of whatever was happening around him.

Unfortunately for him, he was still fast asleep when the bus passed Cele Bus-stop where he was supposed to alight. And unknown to him, the conductor had from this point started calling a new destination which happens to be CMS.

When Mr. Akpabio suddenly woke up from his breeze-induced doze, he discovered that the bus had just passed Tin Can Bus-stop, with the conductor screaming: CMS straight! And to his amazement, the conductor had approached and asked him to pay his fare for CMS. "Ah-ah, where are we? Conductor have we reached Cele?" he asked in confusion, his voice laced with panic. "Which Cele? Cele wey we don pass tey-tey. Na CMS we dey go so," the conductor replied.

But in a twist in the tale, the conductor chose not to believe the man’s explanation that he was supposed to disembark at Cele, insisting that the man must pay the bus fare for the ride to CMS. According to the conductor: "You want to use head for me, abi. So, I go come you carry from Cele to CMS for free. Shey them tell you say I come Lagos come do mugu. Abeg, give me my money jooo!"

And Mr. Akpabio’s response to this was: "You’re mad! Did I tell you that I’m going to CMS before? Was it not Cele I told you I will be getting down when I entered your bus at Oshodi? Instead you brought me to CMS and want me to pay you again. You’re not serious. In fact, you should refund me the money I paid you before so that I can take another bus back to Cele".

The argument raged on until the bus finally got to CMS. With neither conductor or passenger ready to shift ground the duo was soon locked in a wrestling match. It took the intervention of some Road Safety officials to disengage them and settle the bitter quarrel.

Someone told me about an incident that happened in VGC about 3 weeks ago. Basically, the gist was about this girl taking a stroll in the morning and was smoking. And this was like about 8am in the morning and everyone was just going to work. I heard the thing almost caused a major traffic jam, with everyone driving very slowly and staring at the girl!!!!
Romance / Re: Is 25 An Ok Age For Marriage? by Ib(f): 1:49am On Jun 05, 2006
At 25 i was still trying to discover myself, and at this age, i'm trying to stabilize myself in my career and learn to appreciate myself so that i can offer more to myself, my future husband (still searching) and my kids.

I really wonder what i would have been like as a married woman at 25!!!!. Life is just beginning to be fun for me.

Family / Re: What Are Friends For? by Ib(f): 3:26am On Jun 02, 2006
Friendship for me is like a bond, it takes me a lot of time to make friends because friendship is like a relationship that should never go sour, almost like a mother child bond. It takes me time to find it but when i find it, i hold on to it so tenaciously, almost like a crab holding on dearly for life.

I feel soooooo disappointed when a friend lets me down, it could be for the simplest of reasons. I expect a friend to be there for me whether i am right or wrong, and support me through the difficult and the fun. I can kill for my friend so i expect the same commitment.

Thats why i have just 2 people i consider to be my friends right now, all the rest are just groovemates, boyfriends, acquintances, workmates etc

For all those who are thinking i am the girl who has the problem, the answer is no, but i will relay the message to my friend. She has to stop the smoking at least, but from what i gather, drinking is a bit more permissible.

But she is a nice girl though! She is good in bed, intelligent, hardworking, cooks, cleans, u know now, the full works.
