Good, but u'll find out that these hospitals that are being shut down are private owned hospitals, and truth be told; how well-standard are the government owned hospitals? They are no better off themselves, they are even more sub-standard, ill-equipped nd also indulged in medical mal-practice too. 9 Likes |

Education / Liberian Students All Fail College Entry Exams. by Ibangap(m): 9:10pm On Aug 27, 2013 |
Liberia students all fail university admission exam 26 August 2013 Last updated at 19:33 Liberia education system is said to be in a "mess" Liberia's education minister says she finds it hard to believe that not a single candidate passed this year's university admission exam. Nearly 25,000 school-leavers failed the test for admission to the University of Liberia, one of two state-run universities. The students lacked enthusiasm and did not have a basic grasp of English, a university official told the BBC. Liberia is recovering from a brutal civil war that ended a decade ago. 'Dreams shattered' President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, a Nobel peace laureate, recently acknowledged that the education system was still "in a mess", and much needed to be done to improve it. Many schools lack basic education material and teachers are poorly qualified, reports the BBC's Jonathan Paye-Layleh from the capital, Monrovia. However, this is the first time that every single student who wrote the exam for a fee of $25 (£16) has failed, our reporter says. It means that the overcrowded university will not have any new first-year students when it reopens next month for the academic year. Students told him the result was unbelievable and their dreams had been shattered, our reporter adds. Education Minister Etmonia David-Tarpeh told the BBC Focus on Africa programme that she intended to meet university officials to discuss the failure rate. "I know there are a lot of weaknesses in the schools but for a whole group of people to take exams and every single one of them to fail, I have my doubts about that," Ms David- Tarpeh said. "It's like mass murder." Ms David-Tarpeh said she knew some of the students and the schools they attended. "These are not just schools that will give people grades. I'd really like to see the results of the students," she added. University spokesman Momodu Getaweh told Focus on Africa that the university stood by its decision, and it would not be swayed by "emotion". "In English, the mechanics of the language, they didn't know anything about it. So the government has to do something," he said. "The war has ended 10 years ago now. We have to put that behind us and become realistic." SOURCE: B.B.C. |

Celebrities / Prince Williams Calls His Son Prince George A 'rascal'. by Ibangap(m): 3:03pm On Aug 19, 2013 |
Prince William opened up about fatherhood to CNN's Max Foster. by Alison Maxwell, USA TODAY Prince William chatted with CNN royal correspondent Max Foster in a taped interview that aired Monday morning. Foster conducted the interview less than two weeks after Prince George was born. Here are the highlights: On the feeling he experienced when he and Duchess Catherine emerged from St. Mary's Hospital following the birth of Prince George: I think more shock and dauntingness is the feeling I felt. I think I was on such a high anyway and so was Catherine about George that we were happy to show him off to whoever wanted to see him. As any new parent knows you're only too happy to show off your new child and proclaim that he's the best looking or the best anything. On so swiftly and accurately putting George's car seat into the car: Believe me it wasn't my first time and I know there's been speculation about that. I had to practice. I was terrified that I was going to do something or he was going to fall off or it wouldn't close properly. On his decision to drive Catherine and baby George home: I'm as independent as I want to be and same as Catherine and Harry. We've all grown up differently to other generations. I very much feel if I can do it myself, then I will do it myself. There are times when you can't do it yourself or the system takes over or it's appropriate to do things differently. On Prince George: He's a little bit of a rascal. He either reminds me of my brother or me when I was younger, I'm not sure. He's doing very well at the moment. He does like to keep having his nappy changed. He's growing quite quickly actually. He's a little fighter. He wriggles around a lot. He doesn't want to get his sleep, which is a little bit of a problem. On Catherine as a new mom: She's doing a fantastic job. On his new life as a father: For me, Catherine and now little George are my priorities ... and Lupo (their cocker spaniel). On Lupo and the new baby: He's coping all right, actually. ... As a lot of people know when you have dogs and you bring a newborn back they take a little time to adapt. He's been slobbering all around the house. He's perfectly happy. On going back to work: Well, as a few fathers might know I'm actually quite looking forward to going back to work and getting some sleep. I'm just hoping the first few shifts I go back I don't have any night jobs. On his experience this summer: The last few weeks for me have been a different emotional experience, something I never thought I would feel myself. And I find, again it's only been a short period, but a lot of things affect me differently now. SOURCE: USA TODAY

Politics / Anambra State SSG Resigns, Obi To Sack Three Commissioners. by Ibangap(m): 10:12pm On Aug 14, 2013 |
Governor Peter Obi will on Thursday announce a minor cabinet reshuffle following the resignation of the Secretary to the state Government, Oseloka henry Obaze Monday night. Tension is high that three commissioners may be dropped by Obi to accommodate the new found peace interests in the party. The Nation reports that Umeh’s interests were not protected in the current Executive of Governor Obi and now that this opportunity has created itself Umeh would be adequately compensated. Already various individuals have started scheming for the position while a government source said Obi is considering elevating his Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Prof Chinyere Stella Okunna and her Education counterpart Dr Mrs Uju Okeke as SSG . They have topped the list penciled down for consideration. A government House source said a new Commissioner entrant to the Obi’s government would be nominated by Chief Victor Umeh, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). ‘’Chief Umeh will nominate the new SSG or if Okunna or Okeke is elevated then Umeh will nominate the new commissioner and three other commissioners may go to give room Umeh’s interest in the government as usual. Oseloka resigned according to him ‘’in furtherance to my personal commitment to public service and having been encouraged by well-meaning Anambrarians and close associates following due diligence and introspection, I have this week commenced formal exploratory talks on my possible candidacy for the governorship of Anambra state in 2014. He added that he did this ,’’in Pursuant to Section 5 (e) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance Electoral Guidelines for the Anambra State Governorship Primary Election 2013, yesterday Monday 12 August, 2013 I tendered my letter of resignation as the Secretary to the State Government to H.E. Mr. Peter Obi, CON. It has been an honour to serve the people and government of Anambra State." THE NATION |
