From my experience of children's football, it's a participation sport

The best child can get substituted to give others a chance, or because he is too skillful or advanced for the other children and is ruining their participation fun. They also rotate different positions and can put the Zidane of the team to play goalkeeper for 10 minutes

It's not about skill, but encouraging everyone to participate in the early years even disabled children

The boy seems to be highly advanced in football, knows how to use his body to ride challenges, knows how to protect himself and knows how to tackle. He is at a level where the other kids just won't be able to get a kick or find fun in participating, and won't know how to set their body to ride his challenges therefore seeming like rough play to them.

I suspected this was the case from first viewing of the video a couple of days ago and the coach just confirmed it.

What I see is a misalignment of parents expectations (excellence) and coaches responsibility (participation for all). It's a nothing story.

Part of being a football parent is allowing your child to learn humility, coaches authority and team participation by accepting substitutions, position rotation and other wack kids spoiling his game, yet the coach keeps playing them because it's a participation sport.
