I interpret that as him saying the cash is still there to cover it, but you may be right, as he is so poor in expressing himself, he may be talking about an RCF.

An RCF would never be recorded as a liability in the books unless it is drawn down so there should never be anything on the balance sheet to state he took a loan unless he drew it down.

There are however small penalty charges for not using the RCF (ie you have the facility, but you did not draw on it) which is a minimal percentage. My last RCF penalty charge was 0.5% per annum. Perhaps in Nigeria it will be around 2%. This interest penalty charge is the only number that makes it to the financial statements (as expenditure in P&L), there should be no loan on balance sheet to accuse him of.

This is not a credit line.

A credit line is an RCF (Revolving Credit Facility) that allows you to borrow and payback some or all of the borrowing as you wish at any time, up to a certain amount to fund daily operational needs. It's usually used to manage seasonality and cashflow and attracts a higher percentage, usually 2 to 3% higher than a fixed loan.

What Obi was trying to articulate (and very poorly) is that he considers debt to be the net balance between debt and cash. . . . which as I said earlier, he left a positive balance between cash, investments and debt which is commendable.

Hence he is saying he borrowed money but left enough cash to cover it (or to be precise, enough cash and investments).

He should be absolved of this matter, and given kudos. As a side note, his explanations of debit and credit concepts are extremely poor for someone who used to be a bank chairman.

If you have a watch that tracks heart rate, try to run at a pace where your heart rate stays below 140 BPM, you will run infinitely until you have a mechanical failure not linked to your aerobic system. Basically your heart or lungs won't be the point of failure, it will be joint pain, boredom or low blood sugar that stops your run.

This is called Zone 2 training and is how aerobic capacity is built.

Over time, at the same heart rate below 140, you will.notice your speed increasing while maintaining that heart rate. If it climbs above 140, you just slow down a bit to stay in zone 2.

I will estimate this pace at 7 to 8 mins/km for you or anyone that can't finish a 5k. After just 2 to 3.months, you will see that for the same heart rate below 140, you are approaching 6:30 mins/km then 6 mins/km after another couple of months. It works like magic.

6 mins/km finishes you a 10km run in 1 hour, then you know you are getting quite good.

I used to watch YouTube videos of people who run 100km-150km per week and thought it's impossible, now I'm advancing on 40km of running per week. If I focus on solely running, I'm sure I can double that, but I can't let running eat into my weightlifting time otherwise I will start to look like those skinny Kenyan marathon runners.

Everything gets better with more reps. For example, I had a base of press-ups as a kid from 4 years old of 20 press-ups cos my cousin kept making me do them, but never worked on it past that. In my teens, I started working on it again and pushed it up to 60. Then went years without working on it and dropped back down to 20-25, the muscle memory never let me drop below that. Now I'm back up to 60 again just from bench pressing. If I start focussing on press-ups purely, I'm sure I can push it to 80. Even if you stop working on it, I'm sure you'll always have a base of 20.

Also private companies are typically valued at 7 times their yearly EBITDA (Operating Profit) so a valuation of $7m dollars likely means he was making around $1m operating profit per year from that company. There is a wide gap between that and having $15m in cash to put offshore in Panama. That $7m valuation does not even come close to explaining his cash holdings. You can expect a founder to have way less than 10% in cash (typically 1-5%) compared to the value of his company. In other words, if Obi has a company worth $7m, I expect him to have a lot less than $700k in personal cash unless he is stuffing car boots with other people's money.
