The only war they won in last 200 years was WW2 and only because they have changed sides because they were ally of nazi Germany till 1941 and together started WW2 with attack on Poland. They won in WW2 only because they were used by Allies as a meat grinder and got incredible amount of support from lend-lease (British lost 360000 man, USA 400000 man and USSR with its primitive tactics over 23 millions). They are one of the most pathetic countries ever. And now they have lost half of their army without even touching NATO territory, and most probably in next two years they will lost another half... Ellexy: The FX spent within that time frame was what Oasis brought up as an excuse for why naira massively lost value against the dollar when Tinubu came in. He brought it up, I didn't. . He brought it up as the cost of defending Naira which Cardoso does not have means to do and pointed to this as the main cause of Naira decline, but you missed the point. |

LordAdam16: It's not necessarily sensationalist.
Since the demise of Binance P2P/NGN Spot, the parallel market rates (both P2P and Aboki rates) now track the CBN rate. https://www.cbn.gov.ng/rates/ExchRateByCurrency.asp Thus, the CBN can now manipulate both the NAFEM and Black Market rates. All it has to do is sell a tiny amount in NAFEM at a super low rate, and it'll drag down its rate as well as the NAFEM and Black Market rates. In fact, yesterday it sold at 1350 and that's what dragged the NAFEM rate to 1492. Today's CBN rate would be less than 1450 and P2P/Aboki will buy at less than 1400.
Why is all of this happening?
Let's circle back to February. The CBN made a backroom deal with foreign investors. It'll dramatically increase the fixed-income rate. The investors will bring their FPI dollar to buy the naira-denominated TBills. And thanks to the $ inflow, the CBN+FG will use a combination of unorthodox and orthodox measures to drive down the exchange rate.
It's a no-brainer. The early birds brought in $500m+ (closer to $1B) at 1600+ rate. And that's why the CBN sold an unprecedented N2.5T in TBills in two weeks. https://nairametrics.com/2024/02/23/cbn-sells-another-n1-58-trillion-in-treasury-bills-interest-rate-at-19-for-364-day-bill/ A cross-section of analysts from the bulge bracket expect end-of-year rates to be lower than 1200. Which means their expected ROI is to be 19%+ from TBills + 25%+ from naira appreciation. At least 44%. Risk-free. It's the play of the year.
Now, the CBN is keeping its side of the bargain. We're in Spring. Dollar demand is habitually low this season. In addition, the aforementioned high-rate fixed income pivot drove $ demand lower. So it's remarkably easy for Cardi B to manipulate the rates. Whatever his target rate is, he can get it with a few million dollars.
The first big test will be this Summer. Demand will surge. All the people who balked at vacationing at 1900, will splurge at 1200-1400. Import numbers will rise. In fact, in the short term (over the next few months), the humongous bill of this sly plan will become apparent.
All of that said, we should be looking at a couple of months of FX stability. This is an unambiguous positive for the administration. I still think Cardi B is in over his head. But he has got his hard-fought W... for now. At least, businesses should begin to notice an uptick in economic activity and those who had suspended japa plans should get back on the horse.
-Lord Brilliant and enlightening summary |

Ellexy: The CBN injected that amount into the economy between January - July 2022. That's almost a year before Tinubu was sworn in. From August 2022 to May 2023 was CBN still doing the same? You are all over the place, confusing defending of Naira with FX to printing money. Meffy spent $11bln in 7 months in legitimately earned FX to DEFEND Naira. This is not the same as printing Naira. So if you can't distinguish between the two. what further conversation is there to have? The 7 months of Meffy spending FX is just a snapshot of time. Meffy spends FX every month like any CBN Governor, so you putting a finite date on it just shows you lack understanding of what you are debating. Defending of Naira with FX is an ongoing process that never stops, from 1980 till now. Even Cardoso is doing It now but to a much lesser extent and with much more limited FX. It must be done year in, year out, month in, month out to keep Naira value stable. Sanusi over the course of his tenure defended Naira with over $20bln in legitimately earned FX for example. Tinubu met the FX depleted because Meffy had pledged most of our FX as collateral against Govt borrowing, and that's why Naira is gyrating. As a SEPARATE action, Meffy was printing Naira to balance Buhari budget by Ways and Means which is what you attributed to Tinubus call to jumpstart the economy in the wake of the March 2020 crash caused by COVID, which is an untrue allegation. Nobody asked Meffy to be printing for Business-As-Usual, Meffy was only asked to do quantitative easing in response to COVID crash, a one time shot to jump start the economy which most countries did. Ellexy: In between that time frame naira was fairly stable till Tinubu got sworn in, made a reckless subsidy gone speech and everything spiked overnight. What caused the sudden spike on all fronts? Emefiele's defence of the naira 9 months ago? Lack of fx to continue defending the naira? Simple and plain, YES at the bolded. It is my job to give you information. It is your job to interpret based on your level of understanding, or to run agenda based on your political affiliation. |

Ellexy: Excuses excuses excuses every time. You and Tinubu should off the road joor.
The same Tinubu that told Bụbu to print more notes, same Tinubu that Bụbu and co were following his economic blueprints, same Tinubu that said he'll continue where Bubu stopped.... I can go on and on.
It's time to show workings, not time for giving pathetic excuses up and down like his predecessor did for 8yrs. Someone is talking about lack of foreign exchange to defend Naira, you are countering with Tinubus suggestion of quantitative easing as response to the pandemic at the height of the pandemic in March 2020 when most countries enacted QE. Nobody asked Meffy to be printing 24/7 to balance budget, your screenshot is time specific to March 2020 when most of the Worlds GDP collapsed by up to 30% so everyone knows that suggestion is time-specific, and what it is in response to. USA GDP growth for March 2020 highlighted below for example. Quantitative easing is a recognised policy tool to jumpstart consumption during severe economic downturns. along with aggressive rate cuts and asset purchase programs; and every economist called for that all around the world during COVID as a textbook response to the slump of March 2020. Ignorance should not be worn on the head as a badge of honour. Someone is talking A, you are talking B.

diggz: Thanks for replying so quickly. Chaiiii…….I hail thee!!!! You be really AgbaAccountant!
Meanwhile, am I safe to say that this can only work for used cars? The reason I ask is because I bought my madam a brand new Audi in 2021, and the current market cost is almost half the price on Auto sites and less than half if we're looking to trade it in with Audi.
Do you consider the mileage on the vehicle when calculating the cost per year? Also, what’s your definition of midrange cars? anything below £50k?
I am currently in the market to buy a car. Is there a way to purchase the car one desires without losing a significant amount of monetary value, as in your case? Or do you generally recommend avoiding brand new cars and opting for used vehicles instead? Midrange should be like £28k to £40k tear rubber Most cars will lose 40 to 50% of their value in the first 3 years, so if you buy tear rubber you will chop depreciation. From year 4, you are good to go For mileage, it depends on the price range of the car when brand new, and the mileage you do per year. You will accept 70k miles from a BMW but won't accept 30k miles from a Vauxhall for the same price. Also size of engine and fuel type matters. My current car was on 45k miles on diesel 1.6, but I won't hesitate to accept a 70k miles on a 2 litre engine from a reliable brand. A 2 litre diesel will die around 200k miles. Meanwhile you won't accept 30k miles on a 1.2 petrol engine because it will die at like 100k miles. |

diggz: Hafa?! which type cars depreciation no dey more than £1.5k per year? Abeg I need this info asap. Thanks. Simple. I bought my current car last year for £14k. If I sell it now. I'd expect to receive £12.5k for it, achieving my aim. Or I'd expect to run it for 9.3 years to its death to achieve that depreciation target. That's the value I placed on motoring. Midrange cars around 4 to 5 years old achieve this easily. I drive Honda CRV late 2018 model. My last car did £1k depreciation from 2017 when I bought it to 2023. I sold it for £6k less than I bought it. |

I get what you mean sha but if it's an historical events, there's not much they can do when it comes to plot since they are telling a story that already exist. That's just my opinion anyways. My issue with the plot for Shogun so far is the Barbarian luck is becoming unbelievable. Ishido ordered the Barbarian locked up, then assassin's were sent after him, yet let him walk through the gates of Osaka Also that general under Lord Toronagara is clearly known to be a snake and yet still lives, in a society that values loyalty unto death Some stuff is looking like they will start using our head in this series soon |

Also the book being about a history of a real man and historical events means they won't have much leeway for much storyline creativity in how the series pans out.
