On corporal punishment, you have to know your child's personality

My daughter has not been smacked more than twice in her life, but my son collects smacking every week or two weeks

Trying to stay on the side of the law as smacking is still legal in England but flogging is not.

Sometimes you need to reset a stubborn head child brain sharpish and in the moment, especially if their behaviour is causing you to be late, or causing harm to another child

But that is only for expedience. If your child is feeling like a hard man, cane won't move him. Sometimes my son will say "that didn't even hurt", as if the smack is a test of his pain barrier. I was similar as a child, able to absorb and priding myself in taking 100 strokes of cane without crying, and actively seeking to infringe the rules just to prove I can take flogging.
