ddippset: You can't compare the two cases. Was Agumagu qualified for the position? Was he the most senior High Court Judge in the state then? If you have forgotten I will remind you that while Daisy was the most senior High Court Judge, Amaechi overlooked her for Agumagu ,who was a Customary Court of Appeal Judge. Rightly or wrongly, that gave room to the controversy that crippled the Rivers State judiciary. The high Court judges protested and were ably supported by the NJC which also has a role to play in the appointment of a State Chief Judge. In fact, the NJC is the body that recommends the three judges for the Governor to pick one and ratify the appointment. I hope this helps... |

hardywaltz: You shouldn't see her appointment in that light. She may or may not have been working for/with Wike. The point is that She is the most senior High Court judge in the state and so by heirachy, the most qualified though any of the most senior 3 high court judges could be recommended for the post and any one of them ratified by the Governor. Wike has not shown her any special favour or reward. It's her right and meritoriously so. Wike did the right thing. Now the judiciary is back in the State. 1 Like 1 Share |

@buju234 You are rather misled my brother. I think you read too much of what our compromised journalists report. I comment as an insider and not as one who speaks based on what he read on the pages of newspapers. If NECONDE has paid you what they owe you on your contractual dealings with them it doesn't imply that they hv fulfilled their cash call duties on the Asset. Let me explain : If $5BILLION is budgeted and expected to be cost of running an asset for a year, the JV partners are expected to fund the budget in relation to the interest they hold in the asset. That is, if a partner's holding interest is 45%, then he is expected to provide 45%of the $5 billion for the running of the assets. This is where NECONDE is defaulting. Some commentators think it's deliberate so as to starve NPDC of funds for the running of the asset. This frustrates NPDC'S efforts and is aimed at making NPDC look incompetent in operating the asset. On the sales of the asset you talk about, NUPENGASSAN hasn't said the assets were sold. Their grouse is against the clandestine transfer of operatorship to a partner who has not fulfilled his cash call obligations. On your claim about NPDC owing communities around Batan, Odidi etc, that's utter gibberish. How can NPDC owe communities? Are they paying them subventions? No! Maybe you intend to say Community workers/Contractors. If you are truly an NPDC contractor, then you should know that as a matter of policy ( due to government's late approvals),NPDC requests her contractors to have the capacity to pay their workers 3 months salary evrn without receiving payments from NPDC. A contractor can only claim to be owed by NPDC 90 working days after the submission of his invoice. Most of you contractors know this, go ahead and sign the contract papers and then owe your workers several months salaries. You then hide behind the excuse that NPDC hasn't paid you. For the joint operatorship you mentioned, I guess you read it on the papers! NUPENGASSAN was told of the JOM bring adopted but the letter that came to NPDC did not say JOM but instructed the MD, NPDC to hand over operatorship of the asset to NECONDE. Government says A but does B. This deceit was responsible for the strike action not being taken earlier. All along, the thinking was that a JOM was being implemented until that directive came. My friend, you should know by now that I know more than you read on the pages of newspapers. Many journalists do not even understand this abracadabra so they report according to their understanding or compromised consciences. [/quote] 4 Likes |

Flets: I do not know where you get your information from, but I'm dead sure you are wrong about NPDC messing up her operations. You do not know anything about NPDC and her operations that's why you could make such comments. To put the record straight, NPDC staff ain't on strike because they are against Government policies. The strike ain't about GEJ either. If you are knowledgeable in oil politics you will understand why this strike is necessary. The aim is to strengthen and restore government revenue from the troubled OMLS. By virtue of SPDC'S divesture from these OMLs, NNPC had the right of first refusal to operatorship of the OMLS which was duly exercised. NPDC being the E &P arm of NNPC was saddled with that responsibility. NPDC had operated OML 42 with little or no cash call from NECONDE the partner who bought over SPDC'S share and has actually ramped up production since assuming operatorship. Now, the government (petroleum ministry and NNPC mgmt) have clandestinely transferred the operatorship of the asset to NECONDE - a partner who could not fund his cash calls and who also do not have operatorship experience. From experience, we know that most JV partners actually hide behind operatorship of assets to defraud Government. NPDC's operatorship of these assets have actually brought down the cost of running these assets (both OPEX and Capex). On the other hand, the SAAs as instituted by the Government has diverted much required government oil revenue to private hands (cronies). This is what this change in operatorship aims to achieve. This is what NUPENGASSAN aims to stop. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Dharniel: Your point is not tenable. It is the other way round.Power drives industrial development and sustains businesses. If power sufficiency is achieved, industrialization would follow from direct foreign investments and local small scale Enterprises. This in turn will create jobs and reduce unemployment in the Country. You can't create jobs without fixing the power sector. You don't put the cart before the horse. Power is paramount to our economic development. So I agree with the Miss, that after security, it should be power. Anti-corruption campaign should go along with these. |
Politics / Re: Nyesom Wike Releases Manifesto And Pledges To Keep To Every One Of His Campaign by ibitzbarlow(m): 5:35pm On Apr 19, 2015 |
TheGoodJoe: I hate to see people allow sentiments colour their reasoning. If you had gone through my post debunking the falsehood you have been spreading, then it's either you lack comprehension or you have deliberately refused to be objective. Now, let me take you on those points you raised: 1. I agree Rivers State own those oil wells. That was my position on my earlier post. Pls refer. 2. GEJ never took away Rivers Oil wells and gave them to Bayelsa. My earlier post had already clearly explained how Rivers State lost those Oil wells. GEJ never signed off those oil wells to Bayelsa. If he did Amaechi would have shown proof of that. NBC made the error and has the responsibility of correcting it. This can only be done in the next edition of the Administrative map (12th edition). Even the Supreme Court could not force the NBC from making the correction before the 12th edition of the map is released. 3. Governor Amaechi did not fall out with GEJ because of the disputed oil wells. We all know why. Are you saying that G7 Governors fell out with GEJ because of the Soku Oil Wells? My brother, you know the truth - just embrace it. We know, as claimed by the G7 Governors then, that internal democracy issues within the PDP was the reason. Remember their demands then? Was Soku Oil Wells one of them? Was it not later, after several backlashes at home, that Amaechi started using the disputed oil wells as an excuse for his defection? 4.Yes. GEJ is powerless in that regard. He cannot pre-empt the final delineation the NBC was going to make and act such. If he does, that would be unpresidential and against the spirit of true democracy. I am a due-process man so I will not canvass for such. In case you don't know, unduly influencing the NBC would lead to litigations upon litigations and maybe civil unrest in the affected areas. 5. I did not ask you for projects Amaechi did in Rivers State. He was in charge for 8years so you expect him to deliver some projects . My request to you was for you to provide evidence of any laudable project Saint Amaechi executed in Soku land or in the Oceania region of Akuku-Toru LGA. It is not enough to quarrel over our oil wells without actually delivering projects on our land. The Governor must prove to be Governor by his works on our land and not by his words on the pages of newspapers. You claim to be resident in Portharcourt , so I ask you: In the 8years of Amaechi's rule, What sensible development did you see or hear of in the Kalabari area of the State? Can you show the world,RS Govt presence in any of Akuku-Toru, Asari-Toru and Degema LGAs? My concern is how my people have fared under the Leadership of CR Amaechi. We deserve more. The Local and State Governments are closer to the people, so it is right to demand more from them. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe: I have keenly followed your comments in several posts regarding the contentious Soku Oil Wells. You have always painted GEJ and PGEJ as those behind the re-allocation of Soku Oil Wells to Bayelsa and Rotimi Amaechi as the Saint who is fighting to reclaim these oil wells for Rivers State. I wish to use this medium to correct the falsehood you have been selling to innocent Nairalanders on this vexatious issue. Note the following points regarding the truth of this conflict: 1. I am a Rivers man from Abonnema in Akuku-Toru LGA, the same LGA that the Soku Oil Wells originally belong to. As such, I have no reason to rejoice over the loss of such oil wells since the loss in allocation/ revenue affects my people negatively. 2. This dispute started long before GEJ became President, and so no one in his or her right senses would claim that he gave Rivers Oil wells to Bayelsa State. 3.This dispute was as a result of an error in the boundary delineation between Rivers State and Bayelsa States by the NBC in the 11th edition of the Administration map of Nigeria which erroneously shifted the boundary from the original boundary at Santa Barbara River to San Batholomew River 4. The 11th edition of the Administrative map was prepared in 1999 and published in 2000 by which time Rotimi Amaechi was the Speaker of the RSHA while GEJ was Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State. Could GEJ as Deputy Governor have influenced the error on the map? Your guess is as good as mine. 5. The Rivers State Government petitioned the NBC and on the 3rd of July 2002 got apologies from the NBC and a promise to correct the error in the 12th edition of the Administrative map. That, we are still waiting for. 6.In 2011, Rivers State, now under Amaechi, went to court asking the Supreme Court to declare that the Soku fields are in Rivers State and that all allocations due it be given to Rivers State. On 10th July 2012, the Supreme Court unanimously struck out the case stating that it is in no right to grant the relief/declarations sought by the Plaintiff (Rivers State) until the NBC concludes it's work on the final delineation of the boundary between the two states in the expected 12th edition of the Administrative map of Nigeria. My Point/Position I strongly believe and hold that the disputed oilfield belongs to Rivers State but the cause of the dispute is neither GEJ nor PGEJ as you want Nairalanders to believe. This is so because the Genesis of the dispute predates Jonathan's Presidency and only became an issue in the public domain when Amaechi started his opposition politics. He was simply hiding behind that dispute to mask his real reasons for defecting from the PDP. If Amaechi really loves us (Soku people) and is fighting for us, then I ask: Can he or You show the world one single laudable project he executed in the Oceania area of Akuku-Toru LGA of which Soku belongs? The answer is as good as your guess. PS. TheGood Joe, please stop labelling Rivers People as ungrateful to Amaechi. We are not ungrateful. It has not always been like this; We loved him when he was performing! 9 Likes 2 Shares |
Education / Re: Rivers Students Cries Out Over 6 Months Unpaid Allowances by ibitzbarlow(m): 6:21pm On Apr 02, 2015 |
gulfer: Do you understand the topic as presented by the op? These Rivers' Students are on scholarship from the Rivers State Government to study abroad but are yet to be paid a dime (for tuition, upkeep, rent etc) in the last six months. They are not under Federal sponsorship but Rivers State sponsorship. Do you know how it feels to be sent abroad by your government on aasignment/programme only to be abandoned? The situation is quite different from that in which you leave the country on your own terms with your mind set on hustling to meet your needs since in the first place you knew you have to nothing to rely on? The Rivers State Government has failed these students. This is not good for our image. I've also heard about some of our female students in Malaysia indulging in illicit sex trade just to raise money to fund the completion of their programmes when I visited that country. Is that what we wish for our Children? I implore the Rivers State Government/RSSDA to urgently attend to the needs of these Students. If RSSDA can't support our Children, then they shouldn't send them out! Note: I'm a Rivers indigene and know of some affected students including an in-law. 1 Like |

DeCleff: This is propaganda or misrepresentation of facts at best. You know Abonnema is a PDP town and if there is violence, then you expect it from the other party who would do anything to wrest control from the PDP. Can you tell us what business a DPO has in excorting a commissioner? Where are the police officers who rank as sergeants or lower that are the usual excorts to politicians? You also failed to mention the polling unit and ward in which this incidence occurred. I believe you were with the Minister and the DPO when the bargain(not reporting the incidence) was struck. I know the bearded man in the picture. I believe you know him too. He is not an Abonnema man and doesn't play his politics in Abonnema. He is expected to be at his base (Kula) for the elections. OP, Correct me if I'm wrong with any of my assertions. (For your info, this area is my place- Jack compound) 5 Likes |

Politics / Re: Withdraw Wike From Governorship Race, Elders Tell PDP, Jonathan by ibitzbarlow(m): 11:22am On Dec 30, 2014 |
omenka: I think it is always better for one to understand a situation before commenting on it? Ethnic or tribal politics is bad, agreed, but is it right for a nation or a political party to act in negation of the provisions of her own constitution? There are two main reasons why these PDP elders are making this posturing: The PDP constitution has a provision for the zoning of political offices especially for the Governorship of a state (this was upheld in Akwa Ibom and some other states but not in Rivers State) and secondly there has been an age-long history of zoning of political offices in Rivers State between the Riverine and Upland regions. As a party, If PDP does the right thing by following her constitution, then Wike is not qualified to contest as Governor under the PDP platform. This is because the Last PDP or Rivers Governor is from the same region/senatorial district /tribe/ zone with Wike. While the Upland - Riverine power sharing agreement is not constitutional and unwritten, that of zoning as enshrined in the PDP constitution is legally binding to all members of the PDP. In a nutshell, Wike, is qualified to contest for the Rivers State Governorship post in other parties, but not in the PDP because of the provisions of the constitution of the PDP as regards zoning. 1 Like |

shomutuski: I guess this is how matured adults rant.....SMH! Your comment smacks of tribalism and hatred for a particu group of people. While you were able to make some sensible points as regards Amaechi not giving money to Lagos, politics being a gamble and PDP raising billions for their campaign, you were also caught in the same trap of seeing things the way your masters want you to see them. You acted like one on a mission to promote an agenda - APC. Let me state here categorically that I am neither an Igbo nor a PDP member. I am also neither pro-Amaechi nor Pro- Wike. I am a Nigerian Citizen who sees things the right way. My point is, both Amaechi and Wike are bad news to Rivers State. They were league-in-arms in Amaechi's 1st tenure, robbing Rivers State of her treasury. Amaechi gave contracts to his aide which were not executed and he rewarded him by nominating him as a Minister, while prior to that, he made him his campaign director for his re-election bid in 2011.The truth is that both the giver and taker of a bribe are guilty and corrupt, so both Amaechi and Wike are guilty. Amaechi, should do the needful if he wants to right the wrong he and his aides had done Rivers State. He should drag Wike and his other corrupt aides to court for prosecution or publish the details of their crimes to the public for the people's scrutiny. Remember, unlike Amaechi, Wike has no immunity. Until he does the needful, he should refrain from talking gibberish in the public, as this does him more harm than good. PS. I am in total agreement with those who claim that Wike would be bad news for Rivers State. Amaechi is already bad news, diverting Rivers Money to the APC and for his personal political ambitions. Wike would be no different if in the same situation. |
