World ranking was not a shocker.

Well, it's difficult to make any ground breaking discovery when there's no money to fund research.
Education / Re: Twitter Reacts To New JAMB Cutoff Marks by Ibsgal(f): 9:07am On Jul 16, 2015
Tertiary institutions should implement a better way to access a student’s eligibility rather than solely basing it on an entity as mundane as exam scores. The measure of intelligence should not be grounded in how much one knows, but the summation of one’s creativity, personality, imagination, service, and knowledge. Standardized exams such as JAMB only quantify a small portion of what makes education meaningful, they lump applicants together as if they are all the same, at the same learning level, come from the same background, live similar lifestyles, and face similar adversities. Yes, exams scores can showcase brainpower and academic capability, but they’re very unreliable methods of evaluation. Schools fail to consider that an individual is a sum of his/her intelligence, traits, personality and background. Tests are very limited as to what they can evaluate. Math; definitely, reading; yes, science; yes, writing; maybe, creativity; absolutely not, the whole person; not at all.

Crime / Re: Four Child Traffickers Led By Pastor Caught With 36 Children In Bayelsa by Ibsgal(f): 8:50am On Jul 16, 2015
HungerBAD:
36 Children? released by 36 parents?what is going on in Nigeria?sometimes the stories i read about things back home, just keeps leaving me baffled and stunned.

I am not even mad at the Missionary, nut actually at the parents.

Poverty is not good, but for some strange reasons, the poor seems to be the most fertile and are usually having kids they cannot take care of, and in that process, try to dispose them off like commodities.

This is tantamount to selling your own kids for ritualism purposes.

I am saddened by this news. These kids are innocent, and gladly followed this man because of the trust for the words of their parents. The parents should be arrested, tried and sentenced to jail, and the kids rehabilitated by the Government.

I think it is high time, Nigeria adopts the Chinese way of life. One kid per family. If a family has one child, i don't think they will be put out there like this.

While it is true that this ever-growing population needs to be curbed, the one child policy is not a feasible solution for Nigeria.

Politics / Re: N Korea Accuses US For Choosing Africa As Ebola Bio-weapon Testing Ground by Ibsgal(f): 9:31am On Jul 14, 2015
US has a notorious reputation when it comes to bioterrorism, so there might be some truth to these allegations; however, Naughty Korea often uses conspiracy theories and state-controlled media to manipulate public opinion, so people should not take this with a grain of salt, but they should be cautious of what they read and believe. I wouldn't be surprised if decades from now future generations learn that ebola was used as a depopulating biological weapon. Developing countries are dumping grounds and lab rats for bio-warfare and US has a long history of being involved in these unfortunate situations - syphilis experiments in Guatemala, defensive biological warfare research in Liberia and Sierra Leone etc

you'll probably have to move back home first so you can look around for yourself. Or have people you know, make enquiries for you if they can.

I'm not sure how easy it is to process such things from abroad without actually being there. Maybe someone here would know more.

You can also link up with non profit medical outreaches perhaps. Not sure what the criteria are though.

Thanks!

Wow, nice thread. Can't believe I didn't find it before.

Hey team, I'm a med student in the states who wants to do a sub-internship at home, preferably in the southwest. I sent several inquiries to UCH, but to no avail. I'd appreciate it if anyone can offer me pointers on how to proceed. Thanks!

Family / Re: Photos:see How I Got Attacked On Facebook Today by Ibsgal(f): 5:54am On Jul 06, 2015
Yep, that is where cultural incompetence will land you. It's ok, it happens, but next time maybe you should have an internal monologue about her weight gain and move on, no need to voice it out on fb. To an average Nigerian, that may pass as a cheeky statement, he/she would, at best, laugh about it, and at worst ignore your behind. But don't you dare say that to a non-african, because....well now you know why. You could either explain to his ignorant arse that it was meant as a joke, or you could school him on what really happens in Nigeria, that "get eaten by a lion" statement is so over-used. I don't know where non-Africans gained the perspective that we roam around unclad with wild animals, ugh.

she doesn't go displaying her ukwu arround.

That too I hail from a place where education was not so easy for women. let me make that clear. Our family was not well off.

Your statement generalized nigerian women, most nigerian women that I know are hardworking and educated, not all of us go around displaying body parts as you claimed. And the country has produced several successful and powerful women in different sectors, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Obiageli Ezekwesili, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Chimamanda Adichie just to name a few. And a lot of us also hail from families and villages where access to education was inadequate, and still made it in life, or at least we are fighting to make it. So stop spewing nonsense.

You see how daft you are, my previous comment made it clear thàt Zahra's comment won't cause any diplomatics crisis and you fool came here to type thrash, you must be her slave because I don't see why attach so much importance to her comment on twitter. Now run fool.

Your statement didn't clarify jack, you simply stated an opinion, misguided as it was, it was your opinion. If you're actually aware of what is going on, you'll realize that the comment that was made on that twitter account caused quite a frenzy. And that tweet was a response to another where "she" alluded that President Jammeh is a child effer. And it is a big deal, because if it wasn't, her father would not have to stepped out and claim that the tweets were not hers, but I'm guessing you also don't know this. I can't argue with an e-flogger like you, people like that have much to say without saying anything substantial. If you can't present facts, don't resort to e-flogging, it is unbecoming.

Do I need to lecture you about diplomacy? To you I guess Zahra is important, to me She is not. For goodness sake She is the daughter of the President, She is not the President neithet is She the Vice President . Make the girl no talk again because She be Buhari pikin, you guys are sick in the head.

It has nothing to do with whether she's an important political factor or not, and since you've failed to see that, I don't think that you are capable of lecturing anyone on anything.

Sick in the head? You sound like a two year old coming here hurling insults, if you are unable to express your views without the need for unsolicited contempt, then I'll candidly suggest that you should stay off the net, better yet do not quote me.

Buhari or not, more people will continue to perish at the hands of BH, that's just the unfortunate fact. I don't think we have the manpower or the resources to curtail the group. Fighting them in our current state will be like bringing a knife to a gunfight.

Actually, I had an amazing day, and I did read the comments where you claimed to have helped her after you took the pics. Taking the pics was unnecessary, and the story is not news-worthy. You're a freaking man, and the 1st thing you should have done was to help them; apparently, gallantry is lost on you.

That girl disabled her twitter ages ago. Someone easily made a new one with her name just like the tons of Facebook pages with her name and other popular Nigerians. That's just what your Nigerian youths are good at doing, impersonating and character assassination and probably using these fake profiles to scam others.

If that is the case, then it is a more digestible one than that sham of a tweet.

You took off your ring for a month, yet you got mad that she removed hers? If you refuse to keep the symbol of your union with you at all times, it is a bit hypocritical to expect her to keep hers. You need to take the bull by its horns and deal with your marital issues, impersonating her on whatsapp and looking for clues everywhere are mere games. Sit her down, talk to her, and be as frank as possible, because based on what you've said, something is probably going on, and if it isn't, it will. I'm not one for an authoritative tone in a relationship, but this might be one of those times when you need to put a firm foot down, and tell her that she should sever all forms of communication with her ex.
