The reason why they getting is solely cuz of smuggling. Nigerians running this smuggling are way too many. Even ordinary citizens are into it..

Benin republic for example - the smuggling have destroyed millions of their oil investors because they're not able to sell their local products. It's been like that for many many years... Now, they'll be the most happy human on earth now as with subsidy gone, they can now start making money they've been unable to make ever!

These Benin people have benefitted and well grown into the smuggling too. They purchased from Nigeria smugglers, then resell to Cameroon, Togo, Burkina Faso etc. They learnt all of these from Nigeria smugglers.

Believe me, we have no idea how many countries that are benefiting from this Nigeria subsidy!

The problem has nothing to do with nabbing those behind the subsidy scam and stealing.

The problem is the subsidy itself!

Let's look at it this way: Imagine a man instructs his daughter to go about topless and he determined to lock up any married man that takes a look at his daughter. What would you say the problem is- the married who stares or the fact that she is going around topless? Once she is covered, or even goes purdah style, no one married man will stare again.

Likewise, in respect of the subsidy scammers or thieves, the problem is the subsidy itself. It is the root of the problem. . Remove the subsidy, and these problems will largely disappear. For instance, the smuggling of petrol across the border has stopped. The customs, oil marketers, small oil smugglers that were beneficiaries are now out of business.

The subsidy has been the problem for long. It is only those who want the subsidy to continue that still want to blame scammers and thieves.

There was nothing wrong in removing the subsidy then but the Jonathan government went about it the wrong way.

It woke up one morning and said the subsidy was gone and the price deregulated.

It never engaged stakeholders before removing the subsidy. It should have done some consultations.

It also made the mistake of increasing the minimum wage from 6,500 to 18,000 before the 2011 elections so as to win votes. It should instead have increased it to 11,000. This would have provided the government wriggle room to increase minimum wage to 18,000 during the strike.

And if all did not work, well there are several ways to skin a cat

So what difference will it make apologizing? Some people just like making unnecessary noise. Almost 95% of Nigerians were against the removal of the subsidy in 2012 simply because we did not trust the government of the day.

Atedo is a clown, nobody will apologise to any failures. GEJ removed subsidy partially and fuel price went up from 65 to 97 naira. stop making it sound like GEJ did not remove subsidy at all.
