Politics / Re: "Why NASS Won't Allow President Buhari Decide On TSA" - Speaker Yakubu Dogara by IcecoldDon: 8:52am On Jan 04, 2016
Bevista:
Well said Mr. Dogara.

On other matters, the current FX policy is the most hypocritical policy yet by this administration. A government that is practically forcing everyone else to stop importing is, however, very comfortable to allocate over $18m (N3.6bn) to import foreign (BMW) cars.

Why not lead by example and patronize locally made Innoson cars. If you have quality and safety concerns there, why not atleast, patronize locally assembled foreign cars like Peugeot, Hyundai, etc.

Exactly what I have been saying. I really don't know why some of these people preparing the budgets items think that we are idiots, illiterates or still in d stone age that everything will not come out.

BMW thrash.....this is the best time to showcase the best made in Nigeria automobiles we can....whether Innoson,Peugeot etc...

It will save costs and fx,boost local production and show government sincerity in investing in the economy.
Politics / Re: Buhari's Car Budget And That Of National Assembly by IcecoldDon: 8:23am On Jan 04, 2016
tuale4u:

he 3.6bn naira car budget for d presidency is not for Buhari. Buhari said he initially rejected it. But he was told that d cars are for foreign presidents which will be coming to Nigeria in 2016 for diplomatic reasons.d

Sir, the amount regardless is too exorbitant and attention grabbing for the present clime. Besides I don't believe Buhari is aware of it or would approve if he was which informed my initial post of it not being diplomatic at this political moment.

Also, why do we need new cars at all.....are we to understand that there are no brand new cars of less than a year old in the foreign ministry or presidency.

What's with our craze and obsession with budgeting for d same items every budget....must we buy cars, computers, kitchen utensils etc every year?

What happens to all those got during the 2015 allocation...abi does a brand new item depreciate without value in a year...

Buhari's team needs to fix this....enough excuses!!!
Politics / Re: Buhari's Car Budget And That Of National Assembly by IcecoldDon: 11:04am On Jan 03, 2016
Shaftrod:
It's obvious you didn't listen to the presidential media chat where that issue was raised about the huge amount of money NASS plans to use for buying exotic cars. He told the nation that if he could turn down the offer of 400 million Naira to be used in purchasing cars for him, he does not see it fit for NASS to spend such an amount on cars. And please he gave the reason for refusing that offer as that the ones he is currently using can still run for 10 years. Stop being mischievous.

So out of curiosity...what now happens to the 3.63b actually in the budget for cars. Does it get scrapped now...and if so why was it in the budget in the first case.

Does it mean Buhari doesn't go through all the budget allocations for the presidency??

He has to understand that his whole presidency is riding on this image as being squeaky clean and for the masses. The opposition will leave no stone unturned in destroying that...so I believe that critical policies like this should be double and triple checked by him to avoid such in the future.

I just don't understand what Buhari is thinking!!!. There are some gaffes he does that are so silly....you can't even defend him.

From the absolutely unnecessary 5% debacle that has so infuriated the east, to the unnecessary delay in ministerial nominations, delay in award of any kind of contract or feel good infrastructural projects...not to talk of this present fuel situation and the accompanying deafening silence.

He now adds irrelevant travelling about with key Ministers to the mix. What in God's name are his advisers doing......

Well said. I could remember trying to get the point across on this forum time and time again on the need to end this subsidy thing, few accepted. Three years and trillions down the drain, we are now wiser, better prepared and ready to let our pet sins go. What a pity. This is the same pity every well meaning foreigner I spoke to felt for this country then and I'm so certain now.

I keep on saying it, the biggest problem this country has, an anchor to its development, remains its people. All great nations are truly born in the crucibles of great suffering and immense tragedy. It was my conviction over a decade ago that any pacifist government was simply the enemy of the country and its people because Nigerians need a serious hard time to elevate our thinking. In this I commend the out-going government. NOI and SLS warned of all these things today and we still walked into the wall with our eyes wide open. What a reprobate people.

You keep saying this as though everybody then against subsidy removal were fools or didn't have tangible economic and historical reasons for being against the removal.
Partial removal was accomplished with promise of using it to resuscitate the refineries. Even an attempt of this would have been most welcome....yet nothing, not a single bloody thing was done for 6 years to put them back on stream.
we had high crude prices for over 2 years that could also have been pumped into maintaining the whole system was embezzled.
You heap the blame on the people for wanting to eat their cake and have it without taking into consideration the historical and acute lack of trust and accountability between them and their leaders who expect them to take hits for them without any proof that it would actually be worth it.
Politics / Re: Rexbuton's Message To Southerners about the North and Modern Nigeria by IcecoldDon: 11:48am On May 03, 2015
rexbuton:

YES of course.. it is very logical that we examine the two sides of the coin.. Boko Haram has to be thoroughly investigated, but I would wager a bet any day that it was a northern scheme.. The west chose not to vote Jonathan, I have no ill feeling towards them, that is why I am crying to my brothers down south on the need to vote our own.. Let the southerners shun logic and embrace instinct because that is what is happening all over the country.. The people in the middle belt have genuine reasons to be angry, because the PDP governments in their states failed them, either by defaulting on salaries or trying to politicise genuine agitations of the masses. But we also have some PDP states in the north that their governors did exceedingly well and Jonathan also treated well, did they vote Jonathan? They voted Buhari and voted unproven people who were flying the APC flag or put more succinctly, bearing the Sai Buhari Standard.. Let us not deceive ourselves any further by trying to rationalise the irrational

Dude.....as a southerner like yourself, are you trying to say that his actions as president whatsoever should not be taken into account but he should be voted in just because he is our brother??

Did u factor in that if he had say performed in the south west and mid belt maybe according to his 2011 campaign promises.....nothing the north would have done that would have stopped him from winning.

I see that even in defeat his and his supporters obsession with allocating blame and shifting responsibilities still persist.

Ironically, they are still the ones x- raying every campaign promise by Buhari for possible failure. Hypocrisy of the highest order if u ask me.

Kk, so what other means are those you are referring to cos she told me that she is about moving in with her fiance so constant use of postinor is not advisable and she is scared of IUD implantations according to funny stories she said she had heard.

Also as they are both not fans of condoms....

friend of mine who is getting married next year told
me that she is getting contradictions on the use of
depo provera as a contraceptive. She said a doctor told
her it was fine...but some nurses scared her that the
side effects would be that she wouldn't ever get
pregnant.

So in essence,to all doctors out there, Please...is it
medically fine or ok for a lady who hasn't had kids to
take it without any bad side effects.

p.s she doesn't want to constantly be using postinor as
she heard that the depo provera lasts for 3 months.

please please please no bashing, just friendly feedback will be highly appreciated.

kulyie: See the way you are contradicting yourself.you are bashing women for being lazy, self absorbed and financially dependent for men on everything.that is ok no doubt lazy women are easy preys for every form of abuse in their stock.so meaning the only way they can escape from oppression is to empower themselves and those who CHOOSE NOT TO BE BE LAZY ARE AVOIDED because their insecured self can't stand women not asking for money to buy soup in the house, abi? grin

anyway enjoy your alone argument because I am definitely not going to be your guest tongue

if you read my last paragraph,I conceded that ladies get a raw deal here in Nigeria...sorta like between a rock n the high sea. I never said it is good or fair, just calling it as it is cos I am realist.

I just feel that there is no one fit all solution,so I try not to generalize. I spoke about the independence thing cos it gives you a platform in building your self confidence in your own worth and ability.

And why do you always lump guys to be threatened simply cos a chick works,I for instance would be thrilled n relieved. I bet u work? so r u saying that the guys u meet or date in ur experience are threatened by u

I believe feminists in this forum/country have it all wrong....they should strongly advocate and inculcate the values of financial freedom and independence on their sisters before they start dishing out advice on how to the affected ladies should go toe to toe with their men.

It is really amusing at best n irritating at worst coming to this forum n seeing at least one of these battles everyday.

Nigerian men protected by decades of culture and tradition are naturally oppressive and chauvinistic, but that ain't gonna change any tym soon as long as the type of ladies that abound r the money grubbing, lazy ass, self absorbed n financially dependant types we see around.

I bet the feminists here are those select few working, but I can assure you that u r in the extreme minority. Hence the status quo remains because in Nigeria, it is financial freedom n independence that brings Self esteem n confidence.

Finally, I do believe that ladies get a raw deal, cos even if u r independent guys still might avoid u. It just pisses me off that there seems to be no acceptance of the fact that this generation of guys are a serious upgrade to the past in terms of adjusting to female empowerment. We can do better....agreed but we r damn well doing well!!!!!!!

[quote author=StarFlux]Hey, thanks!

Usually, you transfer the money to the school's account. When you're granted a resident permit and arrive here in Norway, you'll go make your own bank account and the money will be transferred there. As far as I'm aware, there are no limitations. You transfer it after your school application has been accepted. Once the money is on the account, you can go ahead and apply for a visa.

I don't study any of these things, so I can try finding such programmes for you, but can't really say much from my own experience. Only thing I can do is ask around and see if said programmes can be found in a database where the lowest grade point averages from last year are listed, you'll get a general idea how competitive it is. It really depends on the school most of the time. As long as it's natural sciences, it's okay? I'll go ahead and find some for you.
@starflux tks man for clearing all that up....I would really appreciate if you could get access to that database which I knw will be extremely invaluable to all of us following this thread, hoping you will post it today PLS... even though I knw u might be busy. Also is it only international applicants residing in Norway with Norwegian ID number that can apply for Petroleum Technology at the University of Bergen

hi @starflux luv the work you have been doing. I made a 3.38 cgpa in petroleum engineering and even though I would love an Msc in Pet Eng or Geosciences from NTNU or Stanvanger, from wat u have said in the past I don't fancy my chances, can u please from ur own experience recommend similar courses that I might go for?? Also the 94,400 kronors, can u pls explain d whole process,is it just statement we show at the second stage? must it be in our acct den? how long must it be in an acct untouched and from what month before you can use it to apply for a visa if your application is accepted?? I will be very grateful for ur timely response.

Hello house, I hope to go to Norway next year 2014 for my masters in Petroleum Engineering and I am looking at NTNU as my first choice before checking out the either skls. On going tru their website it doesn't indicate restriction in the grade of B.Eng obtained(I made a 2.2),so does it not matter??. it also said that you must have IELTS or TOEFL which I don't. Is it possible for me to write any of them and still use it to apply before the deadline in Dec 1.Also,please which is cheaper, easier and that I can write this month. Finally, the 94,400 kronors you should have as proof of living, Wen will you be required to show it, is it before the Dec deadline for preliminary it Feb1. Please @ justwise, all those living or schooling in Norway, prospective students as well I ask for ur assistance n help in this thread as information TIMELY given is of d essence. God bless u all

How is it that d U.S can fish out a single individual from a city d size of Boston in less than 48hrs but we can't do likewise against Boko Haram here 3yrs down the line with almost 3000 people dead despite the huge security votes. Even the capture of the masterminds of the recent kano bus bombings would be a start.

For those of us in the engineering line especially that read Petroleum Engineering, experience is thrown at you at every advertisement you see. Now,age is now also a factor as most oil coys na set an age limit dat even makes it worse. So my question to d house n dose of us who have gone through similar to throw some light on their experiences and how they made it through. p.s even guys with masters n professional certifications I know of e.g pens, hysis etc still get brushed aside cos u don't have 4-7 yrs experience. I just don't understand...

I don't even know what to say. Let's say for sec Nigeria was not dis completely messed up place it is, u expect some one who sweated n swotted for years in skl doing technical n mindbreaking courses like engineering to suddenly switch easily cos of d economic insanity to " so called self employed" . Nobody seems to refer to how difficult it is getting start- up capital not to talk of incredibly dubious d average Nigeria is,u will b cheated n duped d first tym u do something u r not very used to. As for hoping n praying, I am not against dat but people should stop PRETENDING N HIDING dat 90% of N120 k/ month jobs r strictly by man knw man. case in point d recently concluded inec recruitment. Abeg give me a break.
