Ola Johnson: Wole Soyinka didn't start cultism on campuses. What he and six other friends founded was a fraternity which was recognized by UI, and even asked to provide security for the universi y's 21st anniversary in 1969. Forget what one of the magnificent seven, Emeritus Professor Muyiwa Awe is saying. On the discovery that some of the members in the 1960s were derailing, they were dismissed. They later formed cults (not fraternities) where they could do what PC denied them. All this made PC pull out of campuses, and came up with a new name, National Association of Seadogs. Read Soyinka's essay, "Descent of the Barbarian and the end of the Collegial" for more information about people that lie about being PC.
STORY,STORY.....STOOORRRY.

Ola Johnson: CHICHIDODO, your comment shows you've not read Things Fall Apart. There is no picture of Achebe fighting racism in it but painting a clash of culture. But if you read Soyinka's great poem, Telephone Conversation, you will a picture of a racist landlady in London and what the author went through. CHICHIDODO, start reading, it will help you, you've eaten enough poo.
CHICHIDODOS DONT EAT SH*T,AFTER WASTING AWO-OLE EDUCATION, YOU OF ALL PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW IT. MAYBE IF THE RACIST LANDLADY HAD READ ABOUT THINGS FALL APART, SHE MIGHT HAVE TREATED HER TENANT DIFFERENTLY.

caustical: Story of the sons of gorilla
Nothing good ever come out of Ibos or igbos (indian hemps).........they are the genesis of nigeria problem. It starts from their ancestors. their foremother who was an outcast sl.ut from central africa who moved to the present day igboland (indian hemp land)in order to avoid being lynched. In the jungle, a gorilla sighted her and ra.ped her and she got impregnated and gave birth to twins (one boy and one gal). the 2 slept with themselves and the boy slept with his mother. the rest they say is history. This their origination explain the reason why they have hairy body and why many of them act and think like gorilla. Enough said about their origination (U can see where the problem start from)

Now to modern day, when the british came to nigeria, the places they came to was Lagos, Abeokuta,Ibadan, Calabar, Port harcourt, Kano, Sokoto. They didn't make attempt to enter the forbidden land (indian hemp land)because they never see it as being relevant. But because of the f00lish british agenda they amalgamated the people of good culture and known origin with the ba.rsta.ds sons of Gorilla (henceforth refers to as SOG). Can U see how the problem continues

After independence, there are 3 regions with everyone trying to develop their origins but these SOGs won't stay in their region and develop it but to come to other peoples' region and want to dominate them from the fact that they want to be relevant. That being said we continue to tolerate them. But is only a matter of time before SOGs show who they really are (like the way they derailed this thread), some SOGs in person of Nzeogwu, Ifeajuna etc. planned the 1st coup and killed Hausa and Yoruba leaders leaving out their people. Can U see how the problem continue

Another SOG in person of Ironsi who suppose to rectify things came into power and decided to do like a typical SOG but we all know how his story ended, he was killed like a fowl. After that period they have been suffering since and they will suffer till thy kingdom come. starting with pogrom where hausas kill them like cockroaches (which they are) to the mutilation they received in the hands of Nigerian army during the civil war (Anya miri). Their suffering in the civil war is as a result of one of them (a typical SOG) known as Agbari Ojukwu (big pot head) and I don't pity them at all. After the civil war, are they not supposed to have learnt from their past mistakes but never these SOGs will never learn. Another SOG who is learned and had the privilege to study outside the forbidden land in person of Achebe (we'll do it like that) held grudges and didn't let go of the past. We all know how is story ended he died a very sad man as a result of bomb blast that happened thousands of mile away from where he was.

Now tell me, is there one single sane person among them. Kiss and Make up with SOGs God forbid! They grow hatred in their mind and they will all die sorrowfully because they will never get to where Yorubas are because Origin can never be changed. Sons of the soil is different from SOGs
SONS OF THE SOIL MY BLACK IGBO ANUZ, SINCE YOUR STU.PID FATHERS FOUGHT TO KEEP US TOGETHER, WHY ARE YOU HATING US FOR LUMBERING INTO YOUR LAND AND COLONIZING IT ESPECIALLY LAGOS. IS IT NOT THE DIVIDENDS OF THE CIVIL WAR? WHOSE FAULT IS IT THAT THE YERIBAS ARE LAZY AND DUMB? ME, THE SON OF A GUERILLA OR ODUDUWA THE SON OF A PIG? DUH?!

Ola Johnson: wole Soyinka has contributed more in literature and in any good thing you can think about. He wrote plays to reflect the mood of some of the countries in Africa. He wrote "The Play of Giannts" against Idi Amin's rule and some others against apartheid. He personally started what we now know as Federal Road Safety Commission on the campus of my alma mater, University of Ife (now OAU) in the early 1980s before it was taken over by then Governor Bola Ige of Oyo State and later the FG. He also set up Radio Kudirat in a forest (Tonkere) in OAU with some of his former students like Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State; Dele Momodu of Ovation; the SSG of Edo State, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, etc.
SINCE YOU HAVE OPENED THE DOOR, LET US ENTER. WHO WAS THE FATHER OF CULTISM?

bloggernaija: Personally , I read things fall apart twice, watched the mini series and took examinations based on the book. I kind of agree with Sam here. The dept and range of a typical Nobel winning work of literature is very very high and has little to do with the personality of the writer.Things fall apart simply falls short in this regard.
You only need to check out wole Soyinka poem ,"A TELEPHONE CONVERSATION" to understand what Sam is talking about. This peom is so deep that even an adult will find it hard to u dear stand without explanation. It did not win him anything
YEAH, IT WAS DEEP BUT WAS IT OF BENEFIT TO YOU AS A BLACK MAN,AS AN AFRICAN, A BLOGGER?DID IT CHANGE THE VIEWS OF A RACIST WORLD AS REGARDS TO THE COLOUR OF YOUR SKIN? O.K WHAT DO YOU WANT A XENOPHOBIC RED-NECK TO RELATE YOU WITH? AS A BLACK MONKEY OR TFA? NO OFFENCE.
Meanwhile, y'all should stop the back and forth. Chinua was one of the greatest writers of all time. Mr Omatseye, or whatever his name is, is an irrelevant journalist who'd obviously sell his own ma for a pot of porridge. So I don't see why anyone would take him seriously.

There wasn't a single leading newspaper house the world over that didn't write a major column on Achebe when he died. The piece on New York Times was trending for days. You should know what that means.
WELL, THE YERIBA PRICKS HERE DONT THINK SO.

manny4life: You know I once asked a coworker - a Black American, does she know "Things Fall Apart", to my greatest surprise, she said YES. Though she couldn't remember the author, but she said she knows the book, she read the book when she was in school. Keep in mind, this lady is in her mid 40's, I was shocked to even find out that most schools here in DC had it in their curriculum...
NEXT TIME ASK HER IF SHE HAS READ ABOUT THE LION AND THE JEWEL.

Ola Johnson: Guy, Soyinka and Achebe are not mate, Soyinka is far ahead of him. At your age, how do the stories in Achebe affect your reasoning when compared with the philosophical works of Soyinka. When we speak of the Nobel Prize, you point at Achebe's Things Fall Apart; what is that compared to: Idanre, You Must Set Forth At Dawn, Kongi's Harvest, Interpreters, etc that have been performed to the admiration of even the Queen of England.
WHAT IS NOBEL PRIZE? WOULD U COLLECT AN AWARD FROM PEOPLE WHO SEE U AS SUB-HUMAN AND YOUR CULTURE BARBARIC? TYPICAL YERIBA BEHAVIOUR. YOU ARE SO BLINDED BY JEALOUSY AND INFERIORITY-COMPLEX THAT U DONT SEE THE BIG PICTURE?

NELSON MANDELA IN A TRIBUTE SAID THAT ACHEBE WAS THE WRITER THROUGH WHOSE BOOKS 'THE WALLS CAME DOWN' WHILE SOYINKA AND CLARK DESCRIBED HIM AS A 'BROTHER' AND 'DOUGHTY FIGHTER'
PROPHETIC IN HIS WRITINGS AND IMBUED WIT NATIVE WIT AND INTELLIGENCE. HE TWICE REJECTED NATIONAL HONOURS AND HAS WRITTEN TOMES LAMENTING THE SLIDE IN THE FORTUNES OF OUR GREAT COUNTRY NIGERIA. NOW WHO THE F**K IS SAM OMATSEYE? IS HE A RETARDD?

TechyGuy: When I saw "...the Governor Elect Alhaji Kashim Shettima promised to offer them..." in the first line, I immediately realize the news was old. Then again, I saw the link: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/05/boko-haram-rejects-amnesty-offer/. Notice that it is even from an archive in May 2011. Any intelligent person should have seen that.

But I was amazed when I started seeing comments below, even after your post, people like CrazyMan, as his name implies, did not disappoint just 3 posts after yours.

1. The news is from 2011 May.
2. It was amnesty from the then governor of Borno state, not GEJ. "...the Governor Elect Alhaji Kashim Shettima promised to offer them...".

Bias and tribal sentiments will not allow opposition supporters, even a MOD, to see clear propaganda any more. It is the hallmark of opposition supporters!!!

@carmelion.But it was official, kind of, because at a point in the relationship she was askin 'questions' and i gave her definite answers. Because of her i set up my business, so that i can provide for her without breaking a sweat. Even the thought of my future with her kept me strong during the lean days of my enterprise. As a young man of 23 back then, i pegged 27 as the age that i will be married to her and she knew all my plans. I have been to her family home in the village on three separate occaisions, most of her extended family know and like me (because i dey bring brekete for them). I just feel that maybe somewhere, somehow somebody poisoned her mind towards me. The point is that there are guys who believe in buildin, resuscitating and empowering their 'girl-friends' even when they dont have much it is in their nature to nurture. They believe in the beauty of love and romance, so they wait a long while before consumation (in my own case, nothing). Maybe you dont believe in the longterm, but i believe that longterm couples bond very tightly thus they have a better chance of a quality married life. Now my eyes don tear finish, though i am stil who i am except that i might want to shine that congo before marriage. After all, i learnt from you that If you 'truly' love someone sex cannot take that love away
