PHP is quite popular among web devs from the research I've made on Upwork and Fiverr, so I'll definitely get in there too.

You know, I'm not learning them one after the other. I want to learn like 4 of them, simultaneously. Like I'm doing school courses yeah?
I'll allocate hours to each of them daily. Like a timetable you get? So I'll do HTML/CSS and JavaScript today, then PHP and Python the next day, because if I wanna take them singly, I'd end up forgetting the ones I've learnt previously grin. So I get to touch on each of them at least for 4 hours a week. That's my study strategy. What's yours? smiley

Bunnae's gone AWOL grin
shocked shocked shocked
This guy!! Odi egwu o
That's some serious work.
I haven't started though. I'm working on some project now and I'll be done in two weeks.

Grandlord:
Absolutely. I'm looking to offer web dev services on freelance sites for a start. Then maybe push further by mastering either data science or mobile app development.

The most important thing for me though, is that I'm enjoying the learning process and the amazing things you can do with these technologies. smiley
Yea, there's a lot to with these technologies. Will you be sticking with python for web dev or you're going to learn php as well?

Where is bunnae cheesy
Programming / Re: Data Science Or Cyber Security? by iCode2: 5:31am On Nov 04, 2019
Grandlord:
Yeah. I had started learning Django, the Python framework for web dev, but they were mentioning HTML a lot, so I had to pause for a while and go learn html alongside CSS. I think I'll add JavaScript at once. I'm also learning the data science frameworks too. I see you're interested in just the data science aspect ?
I'm interested in both. I have some personal Web dev projects I want to execute. Also, while fully data science, nothing wrong if a brother occasionally makes some money off freelance web dev jobs grin

Yeah it's the one but, watch out for the upgraded 2nd edition though. It was released October 29th and should be available online anytime from now.

Yeah Brad is very good and has lots of subscribers.

Lol bro, you'll catch up in no time. What languages do you know already?
Okay, thanks. I'll watch out for it.

Me? Lol just html and little CSS. I don't think python will be hard for me too. I have some knowledge on pascal. Syntax wouldn't be hard for me to grasp.

It seems you have some interest in Web development too.

Brad Traversy has a Python course on YouTube? Quite interesting because I just finished his html and CSS crash courses this week. smiley

Well I didn't see his python video when I started out learning. So the video I used was Mosh Hammedani's Python course, together with the book, Automate The Boring Stuff. cool
Yea, he has. I think he's good. But you're not smiling ooohh! Pls wait for us to catch up grin
I just rushed to get the book now. Is it this one I uploaded?

I thought so too. I had to do a ton of exercises to be sure. grin I feel like logic comes easy to me though.

Yeah python is my first language, that's why it was really frustrating the first week but once I got how the syntax worked, by doing copy and paste from the videos, I took off from there. I think I did put in up to 6 hours daily, that first week though.
Lol that's really encouraging. Can't wait to kick start the learning process. Have you seen Brad Traversy's Python crash course on YouTube? What do you think about it?
Programming / Re: Data Science Or Cyber Security? by iCode2: 8:29pm On Nov 03, 2019
Grandlord:
Videos and PDFs. I did put in 4 hours daily, excluding weekends and it took me 4 weeks to master the basics. It's all about understanding the logic . The syntax is easy especially if you're coding with pycharm. The projects and modules though, are a different ball game entirely grin.
4 weeks was quite fast. Is python your first language?

@bolded... Ikr grin grin

okay thank you'I sort of just finished with sql. I'm on python currently.
Now now? shocked shocked
Do i need any special focus on python as it concerns data science? or i need to learn every aspect of the language?
Very important question.
Grandlord:
Start out by learning the basics of the language first. Then proceed to learning its data science frameworks and libraries such as tensorflow, numpy, matplotlib, pandas etc. I'm done learning the basics and now I'm working on data projects using tensorflow, matplotlib and theanos. I'm also learning django for web dev. There's a lot you can do with python.

How is SQL like? I'm looking to pick it up when I'm through with my projects. cool
How did you learn? Strictly videos or you also consulted books? I learnt that python is quite an easy language. How long did it take you to run through the basics?

Such person don't understand data science. Just learn python basics

variables,
decison,
array,
loop,
functions,
OOP

After this stop reading books and dive into algorithms and application dev and Data analysis, by this you will know what and what not to learn and which books to read and which not to read.
Thanks a lot. I really appreciate.

In my opinion
Data science is the biggest sale point right now and all kind of company are out there looking for who will help them in data collation and manipulate especially business knowledgeable manipulations and statistically tools on the other hand Cyber security is a big future to come to Nigeria, not many people find it important in this part of the world but with thr rise in use of internet and network and rise in data stealing and corruption , it's importance cannot be replaced, so it has a bright future.
Yea, cyber security has a big future. Made some research and I'll be going with data science. I wanted to learn python first but someone suggested I learn SQL first for data science. Do you have books on python or SQL that you can share?

Great. I am looking at delving into data science. What will you advice a starter to begin with? Python? Excel? SQL? Lastly, what are the prospects of data science in Nigeria?

its been quite interesting for me to be honest. I have been using codecademy, W3Schools, and all. Right now i am on database management.Almost done Learning SQL on codecademy.

please delve into it so we can become datascience buddies grin. I would love to have someone to learn with.
"interesting".... That's encouraging.
Lol @datascience buddies. Can I send you a pm?

Not still a specific question, if you need a ln exposition of data science and cyber security then edit the topic to suite.
You have to decide what you like for yourself.

If you can say the exact thing you're interested in, then we can help you.
About deciding, I thought I could use people's opinion here on the two fields in deciding. An exposition of data science and cyber security will be okay.

I'm tilting towards data science though..

Data science, data visualization, data mining, data analysis, GIS, data management..
Are you into data science?

Hi, bunnae and kinglyt
How has it been learning data science and how far have you guys gone?
I'm considering delving into data science soon.

Data science and cyber security are different side of same coin. one manipulate data and the other protect data.

Python can be used for them both.

Back to the question my answer is I don't know.
how do you expect us to select a course of study for you? please ask a specific question.
Not as a course of study, I'm a graduate. I want to acquire skill in any of the two areas to better my life. I just think one will have more prospects in Nigeria. That's the purpose of this thread. To know which is more viable. Also, experienced people can also advice on learning path.

You never start na salary u dey reason .
As you can see, that's the last question I asked. It's not the only question I want to have an answer to. What's wrong with wanting to know what the pay is like for what you want to build a career in?

Good day guys..
I'm turn in between diving into Data Science or Cyber Security. I want to start learning Python and from my findings, Python can be used for both. I want to know which I'll dive into fully as I'll be building a career in anyone I go with. Here are some questions that'll guide my decision.

What are the prospects of data science compared to cybersecurity in Nigeria? Also, availability of jobs..

Which among the two assimilates someone easier into the industry?

Which one is higher in terms of salary?
