ChrisKels: Who else is worried about the dearth of young quality Centre backs coming through the ranks, with Balogun aged, Omeruo and Ekong in their mid twenties? Did u know the last time our youth system produced a Centre back that made it to the Super Eagles was in 2009, Omeruo? Of all the quality players paraded by both Manu in 2013 and Amunike in 2015, not even a single Centre back still has his mojo intact, they have all faded away, Bello, Abubakar, Zakari et al. I have raised this issue before. Not only Centre backs but even Full backs. The last LFB that rose through our youth system were Echiejile and Kingsley Madu. Stanley Amuzie was from U23. But where are Madu and Amuzie today? At RFB, Musa Mohammed was given that position on a platter of Gold but he was found inadequate. Now asides Musa Mohammed who was the last Right Back from our Youths system? My mind can go as far back as Adefemi of the 2005 U20. It was lack of quality RB options that made Keshi convert Ambrose to a RB. Dele Adeleye, Onyekachi Apam and Efe Ambrose were fine CBs that Siasia's 2005 U20 produced. Kenneth Omeruo (U17 & U20), Kingsley Madu and Wilfred Ndidi were defenders under John Obu's U20. And of course Ndidi was also a CB under Manu. But he now plays as a DM. Largely Manu and Amuneke's defenders have not progressed well. Some of them u don't even hear of them again. Not even in the NPFL or NNL. The onions now lie on Paul Aigbogun and the U23 coach to raise capable defenders (especially CBs) to immediately push for places in the Super Eagles. While we wait and see how Manu's U17 team will turn out. Else we are in for hard times in the defense. Modified: Efe Ambrose was part of the Ladan Boso's 2007 U20 and then teamed up with the Siasia's 2008 Olympics teams. |

Could not win common African player of the year
Some keep on saying he refused to sign for man united and joined Bolton instead
Still laughing till today Okocha's talent was no hype. What really affected him was his development. If Jay-jay was a Brazilian or Spaniard I am sure u know he would have received better attention during his development phase. Okocha is one of the most talented footballers I have seen in my life time. |

Okocha was one of the most talented Footballers of his time. But some other less talented players achieved more. I have seen so many extremely talented young Footballers waste away while it was the averagely talented but more hardworking and highly dedicated ones that end up as great players. |

Danycrusoe: any match that involves any of the promoted teams have been postponed, this decision only affects their MD 1 & 2 fixtures, they will start the season on matchday 3. Why Should they even start the league few days after that tedious Super 8 tournament. At least they should have waited till next weekend to allow the newly promoted teams travel back and have enough rest and practice before the season starts. Now some teams will be 2 matches behind. This is not tidy at all. Again they have started on a wrong footing. |

Humility017: that mentality sometimes scare me whenever there is cry to litter the super eagles with home based players...
because with that mentality super eagles will swiftly loose away to countries like Eritrea.
the painful thing is that...our clubs shiver whenever they're paired with north Africa clubs.... some even loose @ home...to these clubs. had it been you ask my prediction yesterday prior that match...I would have given it to lobi stars... it was not surprise to me when they won...yesterday. would have been so surprised...had it been their opponent was an Egyptian, Tunisia or a Morocco club side. Na so o. Even that era when Enyimba won CAF champions league back to back they didn't win a single game in North Africa. They lost 6-1 to Ismaili in the group stage of the 2003 edition beat them 4-2 in the reverse fixture. And in the final won 2-0 in Aba before losing 1-0 at Ismail. In 2004 semis they drew 0-0 and 1-1 against Esparance, qualified on away goals rule and in the final lost 1-2 away to Etoile Du Sahel before beating them 2-1 in Abuja and won via penalties. Enyimba never beat any North African team away |

charlesemeka85: There were cup games across Europe in the past week while some leagues were also on breaks but league actions resume this weekend in Europe.
All Nigeria Soccer's Izuchukwu Okosi presents the matches involving Nigerian players not to be missed.
1. West Ham United vs Arsenal
The duo of Alex Iwobi and Bukayo Saka are most likely going to be dressed on Saturday by Arsenal at the London Stadium as Unai Emery's side visit West Ham United.
The game which kicks off at 1.30pm Nigerian time is a London derby and one that will be interesting to see as the fifth placed Gunners seek to overtake Chelsea in fourth place in the EPL table.
Iwobi has scored thrice for Arsenal in the Premier League so far and with Henrikh Mkhitaryan still out injured the Nigerian will most certainly be deployed on the left side of the Arsenal attack while Saka could come off the bench.
2. Villarreal vs Getafe
Arguably the most promising young Nigerian player in Europe at the moment, Samuel Chukwueze is expected to be in action on Saturday when Villarreal host Getafe.
Chukwueze's performances for the Yellow Submarine has attracted interests from some big clubs in Europe and all eyes will be on the Super Eagle, who has named in the top 50 most promising young footballers in European football.
Villarreal are currently placed 19th in the La Liga table while their visitors are 7th and a good show by the winger could lift his club out of the relegation zone. And what more, the January transfer window is still open.
3. Leicester vs Southampton
The hot debate since Tuesday's CAF Awards has been Wilfred Ndidi's shocking and surprising omission from CAF's Best XI for the calendar year 2018 in favour of Atletico Madrid and Ghana's Thomas Partey as well as not winning the Young Player of the Year won by Achraf Hakimi.
Ndidi would definitely must have heard the feedback back home and will be buoyed to prove his doubters wrong in this game against the Saints at 4pm Nigerian time.
The Super Eagles defensive midfielder has been one of the best tacklers in European football and he will surely be angling to prove his mettle when they play Southampton.
Kelechi Iheanacho has not been in fantastic form when given his chances so more more attention will be paid to Ndidi especially after he was shunned in both categories of awards.
4. Brighton vs Liverpool
It is unknown whether manager Chris Houghton will hand an opportunity to Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun when Brighton host Liverpool at the Amex Stadium but should the Nigerian get his chance to impress it is one that he must grab gleefully and make the most of.
Balogun played in successive games during the festive period when Shane Duffy was out due to a three game ban with mixed performances.
Injuries to key players seems to be the only hope the former Mainz centre back has to impress on Saturday.
5. Nice vs Bordeaux
Super Eagles winger Samuel Kalu is expected to play a significant role for French Ligue 1 side Bordeaux when they play away to OG Nice 8pm Nigerian time on Saturday.
Kalu has scored twice in 13 league games for Bordeaux this season and his rather low goals return is due to injury which inadvertently saw him miss some games.
The talk of a possible return to the national team of Victor Moses could propel Kalu's improved performances for club and country.
6. Crystal Palace vs Watford
Selhurst Park will witness a good game in prospect as Crystal Palace welcome Watford that parades Super Eagles striker Isaac Success.
Success has a poor return of just one goal this season in the Premier League in 21 games and will be hoping to improve on that.
The match which kicks off 4pm Nigerian time is expected to be a physical battle between both sides which the former youth international will relish.
7. Atletico Madrid vs Levante
It is unclear whether Moses Simon will be in action on Sunday when 10th placed Levante visit the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium to face second in the table Atletico Madrid.
Back to fitness, Simon has played just five league games thus far mainly from the bench with a grand total of 61 minutes played only.
The Nigerian winger missed the 2018 World Cup due to injury and as the preparations for the 2019 AFCON continue with the upcoming dead rubber against Seychelles and top friendly with Egypt in March, 'Daddy' will be out to impress. Excellent reviews |

BascoVanVeli: I watched both matches and you're right they were exciting but that was because of what was at stake and them being on the edge both times but let's be honest they could barely keep the ball on the ground in those matches, there were no quick interchange of passes and most importantly the quality of their oppositions can't be compared to the sundowns. The quality on ground was much better. Lobi looked like a team that could beat any team in the continent at the moment. Remember that they did this without their best player in Sikiru Alimi.
BTW I hope you saw Sunday Adetunji balling today? He is finally getting back to his old form again It is very obvious that Nigerian clubs play better on good pitches. That Enugu pitch is artificial but it has a good playing surface. And again watching the game on Super Sports makes the game more watchable. The NPFL should barbish teams that don't have good TV friendly Venues to nearby stadiums that can provide that. On Lobi I will like to see how they cope with away games. This has been the problem of all Nigerian clubs. Terrible away form. And on Sunday Adetunji looks more like he played more from the flanks yesterday. He looks same same to me John Lazarus. I was really excited seeing him yesterday. He should be 19 now. I would recommend him to Paul Aigbogun's U20. This may give him more opportunity for exposure to foreign scouts. |
