ChrisKels: Na u dey compare him with Pa Jay oo, Andy was primarily a defensive midfielder by trade though adept with the CM due to his propensity to surge forward wt the ball at his feet, plus his ability to glide pass opponents with ease, all thanks to his avalanche of skills, so he had nothing to drag with Okocha. A fit Obodo benched everything we had in the midfield bar Okocha. Dude was so gifted. Who wan bench am sef? Olofinjana? Abeg who be this Andy? |

elyte89: Dt Apam and card na 5 and 6
I preferred adeleye,d guy who roll up his short sleeves wyle playing to apam sha..Apam is a hard defender Onyekachi Apam. A hard tackling defender. He was initially better than Efe Ambrose but Ambrose progressed better than he did no thanks to injuries. Dele Adeleye was another fine young CB of that era. Our youth teams have stopped producing good defenders? Why? Balogun, Ekong and Omeruo are all aging together. None of Manu's or Amuneke's Defenders are in the national team presently. Not good at all. |

ChrisKels: Yes they couldn't qualify buh Andy was the standout player. I blame Keshi for their failure.
About his Eagles career, he would have done better if he had stayed injury free. U cant fault him for that. Chris was the reason Muntari made it at Udinese. He was that good Andy who? Remind me please. Abi na Andy Okeke Let me be sincere with you Christian Obodo was very good but over-hyped. A player peeps were already comparing to Okocha. He was injury free at the earlier part of his career at Least for the first two years of his SE career. Him no near Jay-jay abeg. |

ChrisKels: Bro na injuries ruin Andy Obodo just as it has ruined Joel Obi, who also was super talented before the unfortunate injuries. Obodo was so good, Italy wanted to cap him even though he was already a Nigerian youth International. He left Platue United to set the Serie A ablaze with Perugia and all the big teams in Italy and abroad were scrambling for his siggy. Ndubuisi Obodo didn't really have a good national team career. His case was almost like that of Joel Obi. Obodo was the new Okocha but he didn't really live up to expectations. Obodo, Ogbeche and Justice Christopher were part of the 2001 Flying Eagles that couldnt qualify from the AYC group stage after all the hypes about how Stars studded the team was. |

U ChrisKels: These strikers once had the best midfielders behind them, yet couldn't get any medal. Imagine Okocha and Obodo of Perugia, Fiorentina and Udinese behind those strikers at some point and we still got our ass whipped by Drogba and co. The NFF did not give us good coaches that period. That team was highly gifted with quality players. That defense had Taiwo, Yobo, Apam/Ambrose and Odiah in defense. The Midfield had Okocha, Obodo, Kalu Uche, Oruma, Olofijana, Ayila and young Mikel. Kanu was an AM/ SS. We used strikers as wingers in Osaze, Utaka, Nsofor while Yakubu, Martins and Uche took their turns to play CF/SS |

In another topic, Nsofor of Verona or Chukwueze of Villarreal, if u were asked to make a choice? These are similar players; powerful left foot, pace et al. Chukwueze is a better dribbler though buh Obinna pack shot for leg oo Let Chukwueze play at least two more seasons and then I can come back and do the comparison. Nsofor post Beijing Olympics, when he was at Verona, was very lethal o. |

Edopesin: Ex-Germany U20 Skipper Akpoguma : Rohr Wants Me To Play For Nigeria Over Germany Published: January 09, 2019
Hannover 96 defender Kevin Akpoguma has refused to change his mind on his decision not to accept a call-up up from the Nigerian Federation, saying his priority is to make his senior debut for his country of birth, Germany.
Since 2014, Akpoguma has been on the radar of the Nigeria Football Federation and national teams coaching staff. Former Nigeria U23 coach Samson Siasia first invited him to a training camp in Abuja in December 2014 ahead of the 2016 Olympic Games but the central defender snubbed his invitation.
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has repeatedly expressed his interest in Akpoguma and the German tactician was unable to persuade Akpoguma to play for the Super Eagles at the 2018 World Cup.
Speaking to German sports magazine Kicker, Akpoguma stated : ''Gernot Rohr is still interested and would be happy, but I do not want to close the door to the German national team. "Even if Joachim Löw calls me at the age of 27 for a game or two, that would be an honor for me, because Germany is the country where I was born."
Akpoguma has collected 64 youth caps for Germany at U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 level. "Lo ba tan" |

Danielnino00: 2017 was Senegal best chance to win the AFCON IMO... As for Morocco,Herve Renard being their coach is what makes me believe they have what it takes to win it...But let's see sha..
Which underdog do you think can spring some surprise? its only Uganda I can think of.. In Africa we have Grade A, B and C Teams. The Grade A Teams are usually the top favorites and are often the seeded teams while Grade B Team are those Teams that are not favorites but are capable of hurting the Grade A Teams if they take their chances. And the Grade C Teams are teams that u know will hardly cross the group stage or that their greatest achievement could be the qualification for the next round. From experience, Teams that spring surprises are the Grade B teams and not Grade C. I consider Uganda as a Grade C Team. Forget that we drew them in that friendly. They are not much of a gifted side. Zambia was a Grade B Team prio to when they won the AFCON in 2012. Burkina Faso was a Grade B team also pro to when they played in the 2013 AFCON final. Even Cameroon was a Grade B leading to the 2017 AFCON, they were not among the favorites. Even though I know the favorites already, on the team(s) that can create surprises in this AFCON I would want to see the final list of qualifiers as some of the countries that may create surprises are still yet to seal qualification. |

Danielnino00: All things being equal, the favorites to win the AFCON (in my own opinion) are
1)Egypt
2) Morocco (north Africa factor)
3) Tunisia
4) Nigeria
5) Cote d'ivorie
6) Senegal
I don't trust this is Senegal team one bit... They look like another Africa golden generation that won't live up to expectation...
As for Ghana and Cameroon, they are simply not in good form ATM... I agree with you about Senegal. There are certain countries that are natural Perennial under achievers in Africa. Senegal, Algeria and Morocco are on that list. Another team is Mali. While Countries like Cameroon and Egypt often over achieve. As for Nigeria, I don't know which position yet to place them on the list of favorites but I will rate our chances of winning higher than those of Tunisia and Morocco. |

BascoVanVeli: favorites won't always equal winners. Ghana won their U20 world cup in that same Egypt so no excuses. How are you sure they make it out of the first round Only one team can win a tournament. Egypt are one of the favorites to lift that cup. You are saying Nigeria will beat Egypt even on the pyramid how are you so sure we too will qualify from the group. If you really follow African Football you will know Egypt are heavy weights when it comes to the AFCON. They will be more rated than Nigeria to win the 2019 AFCON. Bringing in Ghana winning U20 in Egypt is baseless because Egypt are no where in World youths Football. While Ghana are among the best in the world at age grade level. |
