DRAFTING MORE FOREIGN-BORN PLAYERS TO EAGLES WILL BE COUNTERPRODUCTIVE

The North Africans have been doing it for years, then French-speaking sub Saharan countries joined in. For Nigeria, was something that previous NFF administrations flirted with, but now, under Amaju Pinnick, it is about to be elevated into a full blown policy, vigorously pursued. But is it the right step to take?

It is crucial to follow the universal pattern when trying to build anything worthwhile. These patterns usually fit a principle of life; and these principles work, no matter who applies it. Therefore, to build, you start small and you take care of the little things. The principle is: when you take care of the little things, the big things will take care of themselves! In building the senior Nigeria national teams (Men and Women) we need to take care of the home league, grow it and maximize their financial potential.

While it is within the rights of the Nigeria Football Federation to invite footballers who are born to Nigerian parents, it will likely accelerate the death of the Nigeria league. The move is akin to building a pyramid upside down with the tip bottom and base up: the structure will eventually totter and keel. The national team will look shiny and glittery from afar, but it would not be built on any solid foundation. They will likely win…but only for a while.

A national team built like that will encourage drain; players will look to escape the home league, and will do so at the earliest opportunity because attention of the fans will be focused on the national team. It will discourage sponsorship of the home league since the best are leaving, and fans are not watching. Sponsorship is all about exposure to an audience, and all eyes will be on the glittering national team.

A national team built on expats will encourage waste, it is simple arithmetic: it requires more money to fly in 22 players, than to fly in 10 or 12, and source the rest from the home league. Every game needs a maximum of 14 players that will be active, the rest are standby. 14 imported is the ideal, the remaining eight should be home-sourced, but where will we find them when they’re all bailing?

Finally, the current treatment of the Women national team, The Super Falcons will likely torpedo that ambition…young people of Nigerian parentage will be aghast, and wondering what lies in their future, should they heed Nigeria’s call.

It’s a good feeling when your national team has an array of foreign-born superstars and they’re wining matches. But we must understand: this is only a short-term fix that will have disastrous long-term consequences.
A good write up with valid points.

But my take is there should be no automatic shirt for any player, whether foreign born, Ex-U17 MVP or Golden boot winner or what ever. They are all Nigerians irrespective of where they were born. They play in Europe and so should be assessed on the same level playing field which is based on performance index. And then only those we think have something to offer to improve the team should be invited.

What's that saying, " Old soldier, no deh die" l still rate Ighalo higher. He has the guile, presence of mind and experience to still cause a suprise and score a handful of goals. Particularly against a lowly rated Libya that we must beat.

Isaac has never been prolific throughout his career and he has now shown some focus. That's resulted in a resurgence from a waste man to one with some promise. For me that is all, a bit of hopeful promise.

But it's very early days he needs to force his way into the Watford team if not as a regular but then as a super sub.
Just like how he did against Seychelles right?

the.plates are moving and..the African craton may not be stable as we were once told... maybe its the beginning of the west African rift system...

modified..

reading this info just makes me.laugh... so borehole drilling is the cause of this seismic scare... when govt agencies are been run by padi padi people, they put round pegs in square holes... boreholes are vertically dug under the subsurface..and they can only be dangerous to cause earth quake IF Nigeria is under a subduction zone. zones where the plates are weak and move everytime...but we aren't.. these people wanna chop money for the buhari govt so they come out with panic information to make govt procure these seismic equipments and abuje been the rich mans environment will comply asap...
I can see you are a Geologist. So lets talk Geology.

It is true that we were taught that much of the African Plate is Seismically stable especially our part of the plate. Where are the seismically active zones? The Plate boundaries. Are we at or close to any major plate boundaries ? No.

Now, I would personally use the word ''dormant'' to describe the Seismicity of much of Nigeria particularly where we have the basement complex. Why ''dormant''? There are strike slip faults that exist within the Ibadan Unit and North Central Basement complex. Faulting is an indication of seismic activities. It simply means those zones were once seismically active before gaining equilibrium. When something is dormant in this context it simply means it was once active in times past and can become active at any time in the future. We could be close to that future as we are already beginning to see indications from Ogun, Oyo (part of the Ibadan Unit) and Abuja and Kaduna (Part of North Central Basement Complex). The case of Bayelsa may just be due to human activities like Oil Exploration and exploitation.

Now, on the issue of indiscriminate sinking of Bore-Holes as a remote cause. It is very possible but not likely a major cause. Bore-Holes no matter how Deep are too relatively shallow for the effect of ground water extraction to cause a major in-balance in the Earth's subsurface. These water are typically found in the interstitial spaces of acquifers. Mother nature has made it such that there is never vaccum. The draw down created by this water extraction will creat a pressure differetial that will allow water to migrate from other areas to fillup the void spaces created by the water being extracted and then also God has blessed us with plenty of Rains even in the Abuja and Kaduna area. This has ensured a continuous recharge of the acquifers either directly by infiltration or rise in water table occasioned by rise in River levels. So I Particularly find it disturbing that an agency such as that will put a major blame on bore Hole activities.

And as for the Mpape area where there are quarries for granitic materials used for construction, the quarrying activities may have created an inbalance especially as there is a strike -slip fault passing below the area which could be respeonsible for tremors.

By and large major Earth quakes are not expected in Nigeria. What we may have are low magnitude Earth-quakes or Tremors.

Now what is your take?

You're very correct about the bolded statement but I think we can do very well by playing either of our in-form wingers as false 9s (Musa, Onyekuru, Samuel Kalu et al).

And yes, even I rate Success way higher than Ighalo on his current form but still, Isaac's resurgence is still recent and we might be taking a gamble by including him in our squad against Libya.

However, playing Success against Libya seems like our best gamble yet. Wow, what a dilemma.
I am more ready to take that gamble than to play a player who has proven over the years to be toothless in front of goal.

Besides, Success may not necessarily start. He may just get a few minutes or perhaps a closer look-in by the coach.

I still think we should hold off a bit on Isaac Success's invitation. Lets monitor his form till December (half season) as well as his discipline (off the pitch).

Lest all the praises go to his head and he heads down that path again

undecided
If we had a striker who is in firing form for the Eagles, I dont think this many number of people will be calling for Success yet.
So what do you say about Rohr inviting Anthony Ujah?

Why wait till December to invite Success? After this October game I dont think there is any qualifying game till march 2019. And by then who knows he may have been injured again. undecided

See, even in Success' current form I still rate him higher than Ighalo.

you see the problem I have with saraki or any of the PDP aspirant is same problem with our normal day politicians....there is no honest politician in nigeria.

but the one currently in power took it to another level...he is also not intelligent.
Nigeria need an educated leader...someone who can speak globally and the citizens will not be in panick
we need a leader who is abreast with contemporary governance....
ever since the current president was ousted from power in 1980s he never seek to even obtain a diploma degree at least to incrase his knowledge bank.
even in business...he has managing same meagre cattles for years....and many see these as honesty.

we really need elect a leader we can be proud of.
now corruption has gone to include nepotism in nigeria....that it is even now practised with reckless abandon from the top and you are here trying to say all the aspirants are same....these one is worse oga I was not surprised because I still maintain only those who had no knowledge of Nigeria political history voted him the last time.

we really need wake up even Obasanjo ruled far better
Oga, the problem is even the so called educated ones are not any better.

See Right now from the major parties in Power i have no candidate for 2019 thus far. I am only looking at the coalition of those other smaller parties to see what they can come up with.

NIGERIA NEEDS THE REAL CHANGE. It is very obviuos that our politicians are taking us no where. ONLY TRUE TECHNOCRATS CAN BRING CHANGE TO THIS COUNTRY.

It is time to rescue Nigeria from the hands of those idiots we call our leaders.

My Dear please, if you have your PVC please go exercise your voting right. There is a limit to which rigging can take place now. It was obvious during the 2015 elections.

It also played out again in the Ekiti and Osun elections (excluding today's own). An incumbent can be unseated if the people massively vote against him.

The unfortune and pathertic thing now is the available options are not just it. It seems like a lose-lose situation for Nigerians.

Nice list but Emmanuel Dennis Bonaventure is no RB prospect. The fact he can play RWB does not mean he is a RB. It is his workrate and attacking instincts that make him Excel at RWB for Brugges but to play as a proper RB, I don't think so. Apart from that, yes, I also consider it a nicely projected fantasy list for our U-23s.
In addition some other players that we are yet to recognise now would prop up before then.

My major concern is if the coach can do justice in terms of team selection and another major concern is the availability of these players because the Olympics is not in the FIFA Calendar.

Nigerian football seems to be in a good place…. or at least heading towards it.

For starters the right man is back at the helm of affairs for another 4 years

For another the awareness of the team as a brand has soared thanks in part to that exquisite jersey design from Nike, but best of all… an enormous amount of young talents of which most are conveniently under 21 are springing up everywhere.

In France Samuel Kalu . . . . http://www.soccerassembly.com/tokyo-2020-testing-ground-next-generation-super-eagles/

Lol... Two of my current Africa Best XI players make the lineup. But this is from a football site shaa based on fan votes cast (just under 400, 000 of fans votes) but it's also hard to disagree with most names on the list. Meanwhile, I am sure if we dig into Africa's history of LB, we would find a name that will displace Benatia's.

Also, Rigobert Song should be at CB and not RB. That RB should be preserved for a true RB great. The list was trying to accommodate some of Africa's best CBs. No real RB or LB on the list. Lol
The age of most of the voters has obviosly affected the list. I mean you can only rate Players you watched play.

Success is a very clinical striker. Playing him from the wings all these years has not really helped his career. He is a Natural Goal Poacher. He can easily score from half chances. His style of play is very suitable for a lone CF.
