DrKlever: This is still my best formation. if and only if V Moses brings out his A game and play with his team mates, else he should either sit on the bench or play LWB. This truly seems to be our best line up. However you would rather play Ekong as RCB and Omuruo CCB and not the other way round? And why? |

Nedville: I slightly prefer this line up to the others because of two things
1) Croatia and Argentina are going to see more of the ball. This is certainly bound to happen...our midfielders will look to try and nullify their efforts and block their final passes. However, Croatia will still have more ball possession If we play just Mikel and ndidi, ndidi will be overworked as Mikel does not have the legs and energy to mark the Croatian midfielders when we don't have the ball. Ndidi will be forced to do a lot of work and he may be exposed...he can't be everywhere With etebo in the field, ndidi will have support which he got from onazi during the qualifiers, while the workload for Mikel will be reduced
2) for the LCB, the only reason ogu makes it ahead of omeruo or awaziem is because of his height and his stronger left foot. Yes, he is slow but he brings balance to the back three on the left side. Had it been idowu was left footed, omeruo or awaziem would be a sure bet to start. But 2 right footed defenders on the left side of defence wouldn't strike a good balance there....so there we go
3) finally, moses does not make the team because he cannot be trusted...he suddenly feels like the neymar of Nigeria not knowing he is more of a raheem sterling... He does not strike me as a team player and would likely not contribute to defensive duties when things are getting tough..if he can change this, he is definitely a starter in the team, but if he keeps this up, he cannot be trusted and should be benched. He may then be good to unleash against the tired defenders later in the game. Do an arrangement of the team's setup let's see. |

Petrobros: An excellent tactical analysis. One of the best and most practicable I have seen here.
But let me make one comment that may not go down well with some of us here.
I know some of us here are super analysts but We should stop giving our opponents possible Rohr's tactical plans. Icon4s listing certain players as our key strength can be picked and worked upon by our opponents, even though they may know them already.
Sir, you never know, you may just have exposed Rohr's tactics here. The world is a global village. Look at the number of guests always viewing this thread. There may be Croats, Icelanders and Argentines amongst them.
Nobody gets a prize for predicting the formation and tactics correctly abeg.
My 2kobo. Haha, oga nothing to worry. Football is not played on paper. This is just paper work. After all our other group opponents will still get to know Rohr's tactics after the first game. If the other 31 teams like make dem send their spies here. We will give them seats in the house. |

Icon79: When exactly did Clemence Westerhof held this open screening session? Or were you referring to a different Westerhof? Please, you guys should stop all these nonsense because there are people here who actually follow all these things and have been following for the past 15 years as well. I remember correctly that Nigerians started wailing and crying that Westerhof must include Tijani Babangida in the team just because he scored a hat trick in the final friendly game the team played in Nigeria, but Westerhof ignored all that nonsense and went to the World Cup with the team he had.
Nigerians are the most annoying people on the planet. Every single one of them knows better than the coach while there are out there making peanuts while the coaching is raking in millions. Which begs the question, if you actually knows better than the coach, my not go out there and show your stuff? No, they only do their own coaching behind the computer screens. That's why we call them the Internet Certified Coaches (ICC). Thank you. I was about responding to TheGoodJoe until when I saw this. Nothing to add. |

Humility017: so surprised at last egbon you opting for the 3-5-2 formation... I am really amazed...it shows you are not as rigid as I had thought....
well said sir.... the success of these tactics you put up here all largely depends on the attitude of Moses...and how well he dares play for the team..... a good team play from Moses will spell doom for any team...with these tactics.... I don't trust any system that is not tested and tried. You cannot be proposing 3-5-2 during our WC qualifiers when there were no friendlies to test the formation and also considering that the players only had 4-5 days of Camping. The team has been together for weeks now, they have tested the formation in friendly games. They have identified which players can function well when it is adopted so? What next? One week close camping before kick off will also be good enough time to better perfect this strategy. We need a robust midfield to outwit Croatia and the 3-5-2 offers just that. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 3:51pm On Jun 10, 2018 |
For our participation in the WC, these should be our 5 most influential players: Alex Iwobi, Victor Moses, Mikel Obi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi.
If up to 4 out of these 5 players can bring in their "A" game we will hit Croatia very hard.
I know Rohr is not so comfortable with starting with a 3-5-2 formation. But I think he has experimented with it well enough to have known the suitability of this pattern.
I suggest Rohr should go for it.
I initially suggested an Iwobi-Iheanacho front line but after certain considerations I switch to a Moses-Iheanacho front line.
Victor Moses: I know he may not be in the good books of many now due to his performances from the last 2 friendlies. But we know why. The break Rohr gave to him. At least his better performance against Czech shows he is getting back the flow of the Rhythm. Moses we all know throws discipline away when he wears the National team jerseys but we know how many goals he has scored from such selfish moves. Most of the goals he scored in the qualfiers were from his selfish runs. Same again against Poland. Moses can be a deadly weapon for us when he brings his "A" game.
My starting line up against Croatia: 3-5-2.
................Uzoho
.....Omeruo..Ekong.. Balogun
Ebuehi..Mikel(CM)..Ndidi(DM)..Idowu ......................Iwobi(AM)
..............Iheanacho... Moses
Ndidi should be made to sit in front of the 3CBs and then Mikel the CM and Iwobi the AM. Iwobi and Mikel can intermittently switch positions in the middle.
Moses MUST be drilled to work with Iheanacho, Iwobi, Mikel and Idowu for him to function effectively in that position. Moses and Iheanacho are pacy players which is what we need to outwit the Croatian midfield including the excellent passing abilities of Mikel and Iwobi.
Mikel and Ndidi including the RCB and LCB should do well to cover for Ebuehi and Idowu when they make the forward runs.
With excellent tactical discipline and Luck too we can crack Croatia with this formation. |

TheGoodJoe: I am not satisfied with Uzoho even though I feel he is better than the pack of keepers we are going with. No coach can be hundred percent good in his selection. He has to make tough calls. Not criticising Rohr but hoping we adopt a more comprehensive formula in selecting our players.
Finito. More comprehensive formula like? |

TheGoodJoe: If you are interested in my current stance, I can understand. I will prefer a thorough and open screening with the likes of Utin Ikouwem and the other young cat that played against Atletico Madrid. Let us see if they offer us more than Echiejile because heck, the guy has been a liability. Before the Athletico Madrid game(which was after the list was submitted to FIFA) even you would not have included Utin Ikouwem and Ebube Duru if you were asked to make a list of 100 players for selection. So that ur point doesn't hold. And that your "thorough and open screening" idea for WC selection is for youth level. No country does that now at senior level. How many countries even invited up to 35 players talk less of an open camp? |

TheGoodJoe: As I said, why are you dragging us back. Why are you interested in was your preferred callup in the past. World Cup is few days ahead. Cos you are making it seem as if Rohr made a mistake by calling up Echiejile in the first place and so I ask where is that player that you preferred over Echiejile for you to say you don't like his Call up. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 1:18pm On Jun 10, 2018 |
TheGoodJoe:
I wonder why you are deviating from the true point. My clamor for Oshaniwa was for Rohr to look in. Giving the fact that he displaced Echiejile and had a good World Cup for us. Rohr invited Oshaniwa to camp in England despite his challenges and also played him in a scrimmage game. That was all I asked for and I was glad Rohr gave the young man a chance. If Rohr was not satisfied with his performance, that was okay with me. I just wanted a look in.
My statement of me not being satisfied with Echiejile has nothing to do with Oshaniwa. You are dragging us back for over a year. It has to do with a reoccurring situation we find ourselves with Echiejile on the pitch. He leaves too much gaps and causes us problems. Simple. You said you do not like his call-up. So who was your preferred call-up then because Idowu and Aina were not yet in the equation of things? |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 1:09pm On Jun 10, 2018 |
BascoVanVeli: I think he might be even more important than those guys because we already have right footed wingers but we don't have any left footers. Of course those 3 are already proven players in Europe but he has that it factor that can be seen from a mile away. Like I said I agree with him focusing on U20 for now but I feel the clock is ticking and it should only be a matter of time before he becomes a SE star. Basco........let us see him at the U20 first. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 12:58pm On Jun 10, 2018 |
BascoVanVeli: Of course he plays U20 I have no issue with that but physically the boy is ready to serve his father land at the highest level. OK, so then let's put him in the same pool with: Henry Onyekuru, Samuel Kalu and Peter Olayinka. That gives us another wings option to look into. |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 12:56pm On Jun 10, 2018 |
TheGoodJoe: No no no.
Not at all. I complained of the gaps created by Echiejile even during the AFCON. By then, I did not know Oshaniwa. I complained continously of it until I think a Friendly match we played against United States. By then I did not even know Oshaniwa. When Oshaniwa played then, I was so impressed with his runs and I think either BascoVanVeli or tbaba1234 pointed out to he that he played in the AFCON. I think the finals and was not convincing.
However, in that Friendly he was top notch and Oshaniwa went on to post repeated quality performances.
So my dislike of Echiejile has nothing to do with Oshaniwa but the problems he causes the team when he plays. Forget about 2013 or 2014. Let's face the recent past. You clamored for Oshaniwa ahead of Echiejile in this current team and you even mentionrd in your post above that you don't like Echiejile's call-up, simply because then you were backing Oshaniwa. I ask again where is that your Oshaniwa now? Modified: You know what? I would have just let that your comment pass but you mentioning the fact that you don't like his call-up. Which is true. So I had to ask where is that your preferred option? |

Wanna know more about this Yusuff Ojebode? Kindly check the U-20s thread. Dropped a recent news on the lad hours ago. I already know about the communication between Chukwueze and Aigbogun. Just wanted to remind Bascovanveli that we need him more with the Flying Eagles for now. |

TheSuperNerd: Saumel Chukwueze does it again!!! He provides the assist for Villarreal B connecting to his teammate, Raba to make it Villarreal B 2-0 Fuenlabrada in the Playoff final for promotion to the segunda (La liga 2).
"Samu" Chukwueze as fondly and populary called the Spanish media has easily been the best player for Villarreal B thoughout the Playoffs right from their game against Athletic Bilbao. Since he's moved up a level to Villarreal B, he has been outstanding all through dorning the No.11 jersey and blasting past players like they are not even there.
His goal earlier today as reported by Marvellous BascoVanVeli was a beauty. He cut in from the right, beat his marker(s), took it unto his left foot and viola!! What a strike... This is another great talent for Nigerian Football. Good thing he is part of parcel of Aigbogun's Flying Eagles as they have been communicating. He just has not featured due to club duty for now.
Minutes gone in that game is now 81 mins approaching 82. Yeah a sure weapon for Aigbogun. |
