The players had earlier gone on strike and the Governor in return threatened to disband the club. And it became a case of the hunter becomes the hunted. Men come lie down begin beg Governor o. angry

Simy Nwankwo lights up Nigeria's World Cup camp

Not many who came to watch the Super Eagles' first full pre-World Cup camp training session at the practice pitch of the Goodwill Akpabio Stadium, could have told Simy Nwankwo from Adam before the session started.
This includes the assembled posse of journalists who had defied the burning topical sun to turn up to observe.
By the end of the session, however, everyone present knew who the Crotone forward was, and this wasn't just because of his towering beanpole frame.

All it took was one moment of goalscoring magic, but there were many others before and after.
After an hour of exercises, limbering up and ball work, Gernot Rohr broke his team into two sides to play against each other.

Simy led one line, and it was not too long before he left everyone open-mouthed with his skill.
First he beat the offside trap, admittedly a marginal call, but then out-sprinted his marker with long, rangy steps before moving one on one with goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.
Without breaking stride, he dropped a shoulder, watched Uzoho take the bait and sprawl helplessly on the turf, before chipping a majestic ball over the young goalkeeper.

First, a collective gasp, then applause went around the watchers on the sidelines. One security detail nearly dropped his rifle.
It was a moment of genius, and the kind of goal that can seal a World Cup berth for an outsider.
This isn't to say that Simy has already secured his spot in Russia, but goals like that, and the consistently high overall technical ability he showed on Thursday, could well lead to a surprise selection.

The player himself would not be drawn into losing his head in the clouds
"I am just here to be part of the family," he told KweséESPN afterwards. "It's not about what I can add to the team.
"It's about becoming part of a big family that has been doing great things and adapting to the system. Inside the team there are a lot of quality players that have been doing well, so it's just about becoming one of them."
If he keeps up this level of performance, Simy should slide seamlessly into the Super Eagles side.

BBC 50 most memorable moments names Roger Milla' s waist wriggle at the corner flag as an iconic moment in WC history cos he changed goal celebrations. The thing is black man likes to dance and most goal dance celebrations are from black players. DaveP was talking about something new. It cannot be planned. I don't think Rashidi planned it. Even Amokachi dance was beautiful. These things are beautiful when they happen spontaneously
The South African and Ghanaian dancing steps usually look planned and rehearsed.

I can't believe that tshabalhala's goal celebration is what most foreign football fans consider as the best of all the Africa's Goal celebrations they loved to watch over and over again ahead of Gyan's own. Nigeria no even dey top 10....

Let these guys form a dance that's different from shaku or sekem, or whatever that is rhythmical and easy but exhilarating to watch over and over. Oh someone wants to say we have better things to focus on? that's typical naija mentality o. where has it gotten us?

Let them come up with something. Let's also spark a memorable goal moment at this world cup. Have we had any that beats Yekini's own till date? wow!!. Even my heart still skips at that celebration.

Lol et's present the fun side of us.

The running to a corner flag and then knee to face heaven, onrushing teammates hoping on the goalscorer, is old fashioned. Give the fans something to remember from goals. Just like the late Yekini did.
We don't need any dance abeg. Na Ghana players like to dey do all those.

My own all time favorite celebrations were those of Rodger Miller and Cameroon at Italia '90. Most of those fans that voted are the younger generation. Them no go see that one.

Thank you. There is need for us to up our analysis here cos this thread is just too valuable to a lot of guys cos they believe this is the only place to get accurate information and good analysis on eagles.

I was damn surprised hearing from this thread that the presence of Aina's Father can influence Rohr.No this shouldn't have come out from this thread

Also hearing that Kelechi Nwakili should be drafted to main eagles cos of his performance against Atletico Madrid.

No it's not done that way.I remember James Obiorah had a great game in one of the friendly prior to France 98 but dropped cos we have better prepared players like Okocha,Lawal,Adepoju and Oruma but if we go by talent i will rate only Jayjay ahead of Obiorah.

No doubt about Nwakili abilities as a player but sometimes a good promising young player just need to wait and keep.on developing. The future is bright for the young man.

And now reading some comments on Moses really surprised me as if this is not the thread where we have great analysts who understand the game very well.

Did Rohr complain about Moses attitudes? No meaning there is great communication between Rohr and Moses and with what am hearing likely Moses would join the team in London with Rohr approval.

World cup is very near and better for us to talk football in a very analytical way.
Oh God bless you sir.

Good we have people like you that always have balanced opinion here.

I saw that comment about Aina's father being involved in Aina's selection. I just ignored because I know it is a baseless point.

Those same people that are clamoring for Kelechi Nwakali today would still be the first to jump and call him a flop tomorrow.

I see no issues in Rohr giving Moses the break as long as they are both in agreement.

In fact the fact that Ighalo is our first choice CF, doesn't speak well of the team. Any CF that can make a serious impact should be included at the expense of a fringe defender that may likely not kick a ball.

SIMY ALREADY SHOWING HIS QUALITIES

How Super Eagles Lined Up In Training Session – Crotone Simy Scores Spectacular Goal
May 24, 2018013

Ahead of their upcoming friendly game against Congo DR in Port Hacourt, the senior national team of Nigeria had their second training session witnessed by Owngoalnigeria.com.

As usual the team were shared into two different teams by coach of the team Gernot Rohr after the traditional warming up, light exercises and shooting drills.

Rohr lined the team up in a way which suggest he is already building the team for the Congo DR friendly as most of the regular players were lined up in one team, while the rest who are trying to win a spot were lined up in a separate team.

The highlight of the one hour training session game saw newly invited Crotone forward Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo open scoring in a spectacular fashion with a lob over the head of goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa.

Team A.

Francis Odinaka Uzoho (GK)

Leon Balogun

William Troost-Ekong

Ola Aina

Elderson Echiejile

Salisu Yusuf says he has begun building new U23s

https://scorenigeria.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/salisu-yusuf-speaking-800.jpg

Coach Salisu Yusuf has disclosed he has already begun building a new Nigeria U23 team with Tuesday night’s friendly between the Super Eagles ‘B’ team and Atletico Madrid.

Several of the players who lined up for the Eagles B team like Ebube Duru, Samad Kadiri, Alhassan Ibrahim, Ikouwem Udoh, Chinedu Ajanah and Kelechi Nwakali are under 23.

“The work to build a new U23 team has already begun and that was why a good number of the players were within that age bracket,” said Salisu Yusuf, who is also an assistant to Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr and as well in charge of the CHAN Eagles.

“We will continue to build on the team as the opportunity comes.”

Salisu Yusuf’s assistant Imama Amapakabo said even though the second-string Eagles team lost 3-2 to a decent Atletico Madrid side, they have gained confidence with what they showed against one of the best clubs in Europe.

“The young boys have gained confidence,” he told SCORENigeria
“We have promising players and with what they showed (vs Atletico), the future is bright.
“It was an exciting game, the spectators got their money’s worth.”

More friendlies for the team. But this time strictly for players who would be eligible for the next Olympics.

We need to involve all top Nigerian players both local and foreign.

That team can win the Olympics if Iwobi, Iheanacho and Ndidi would be available as the 3 overaged players.

Kelechi Nwakali and Usman Mohammed are good enough for Super Eagles - Tijani Babaginda
By Samuel Ahmadu

https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/GOAL/66/8d/nigeria-b-vs-atletico-madrid_6gt7zudaixhw16qh4c3fnh60f.jpg

Following their superb goals against Atletico Madrid, the former Super Eagles winger feels the duo deserve a chance in Gernot Rohr's side

Former Nigeria winger, Tijani Babaginda considers Kelechi Nwakali and Usman Mohammed ripe for the senior team following their brilliant displays against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

Top quality goals from Nwakali and Mohammed lit up what was, in the end, a 3-2 loss to Diego Simeone's side at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium,

And the Atlanta 96 Olympic gold medalist who lauded the duo is, however, confident they would be considered in the future by Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr.

https://images.performgroup.com/di/library/GOAL/5d/20/tijani-babangida-ps_1xi63bfgi220h1qeym9czm8qaf.png

"[Nigeria] boys did very well and made us proud against Atletico Madrid," Babaginda told Goal.
"Few players in the team showed the [Gernot Rohr] that they are as good and mature enough as those in the main team.
"They will be giving the coach a lot of headaches but the good thing is that the coach may have penciled down the names of some of them for his future plans.
"I think [Kelechi] Nwakali and [Usman] Mohammed did very well. I believe they also merit being part of the team preparation for Russia and should possibly play in some of the friendlies.
"For both players to score those kinds of goals, they deserved some accolades and to be rewarded too. The good thing is that few players have been noticed by the coach

"So for sure, they will be in his future plan and whenever their names pump up, he will definitely not think twice before giving them a chance to showcase their talents."
