The team really needs an injection of foreign players for our next round qualifying games.
Guinea Bissau are parading 9 Portuguese based players, Ghana also have a couple of foreign based in their team. Why can't Nigeria get our own foreign based players? |

TheGoodJoe:
I repeat. In Port Harcourt, Multichoice was rampant. A lot of people in my neighborhood had it and were following foreign leagues regularly. By 1997, people were hacking Multichoice devices and watching without paying subscription. That year, cable satellites beamed free to Air channels into people's homes. There was a large following at that time. Most bars in hotels showed these leagues regularly.
So people claiming to follow top leagues in the mid to late 90's was true. Late 90s yes. But mid 90s, not likely.AIT, the first private TV station was opened late 1995. |

jihday: I think it's true, my first real experience of European football was 1999/2000, the rothmans show on nta, mitv also showed some selected epl games, nta showed UCL games every Tues and Wed night. Yeah. Local stations but not satellite TV. Satellite TV was way out of reach for the majority of Nigerians then. |

Mujtahida: But there used to show premiership on Saturday. Then futball America on Wednesday. That's where I watched guys like Carlos Valderama and Higuita and Chilavert Football America that they normally show at 10-11pm on Wednesdays. Those were not live games. I can't remember watching live premiership games on Saturdays back then. I think we only had review shows. |

TheGoodJoe: Wrong. By 1996, Multichoice, currently DSTV was in lots of homes beaming live games from most top leagues around the World including Europe and South America.
By 1997, cable satellite dishes was rampant in Port Harcourt. I do not know of other areas. Hot live games had people trooping in mass to different homes to catch their favorite teams and players.
I watched Atlanta 96 finals in my neighbors house on Multichoice. Watched the FA Cup final between Liverpool and Manchester United I think that same year on Multichoice live. I can identify with what elyte89 is saying. Most homes did not have satellite TVs in the 1990s. All the champions league games I watched back then in Lagos was on AIT. I don't think any station showed EPL games live. |

safarigirl: I think he's referring to a certain age group, not everyone.
Anyone that isn't up to 30 years old today, couldn't have really known what went on in the 90's World Cup or Atlanta '96. I think the most he can analyse would be from '98 World Cup. Sure you are right . So when was your own First World Cup? Don't be shy o. You'll be amazed that you started watching before some people that always run their fingers here. |

elyte89: Read my post well na bro,I put age bracket na
Ages of 4-10years...to some extent 12years too during U.S.A 94,Atalanta 96,France 98 can't understand d nitty gritty of d game.let alone of analysing aw d match went,d side attractions and all,dts d point...one can only scream when odas re screaming too if a goal is scored. Am talking abt den,not now..kids of nowadays I.Q IS TOO HIGH,a kid of 8-10year old will operate i-pad conveniently wout help,u c dem in viewing centers discussing d game passionately.dem sabi analyse ball pass some adult self,
D emergence of internet, cyber cafe,Dstv in early 2000really helped d generation of now I agree with you, I was only pointing that some people here are even older than you think. Even at age 12 I didn't understand tactics even though I could name almost all the players in the team. |

Kog45: Chief icon4s i no watched 78 but watched Espana 82 with good memory of Brazil vs Italy one of the best WC match in history. Wow, I said it! Maybe enomakos followed Argentina '78. As per that Brazil vs Italy, I heard older people discussing it. Me I no like ball that time. I later watched the game as I grew older. One of the best games of the WC. |

Some times the way he gives some old statistics dey fear me. It was the day he started rolling out the transfer fees of some players in the early 80s I begin fear am o. |

elyte89: All dis guys claiming to watch and comprehend what's going on in a match baffles me
I was in primary 4 when Brazil and France played in 98 world cup ,na small remain make we c ,I was 9month old when amokachi scored a beautiful goal against greece ,trying to clinch on d oldies
I no sabi as una dey understand dis games o,at Dt tender age...I bet most of u at DT age bracket watched replay and not d real match ,make una no dey whine us for here
Aw primary 4 piking of DT time comprehend each persons name, position, style of play as at den ,me I no believe o ,kids I.Q den where not as high as today's kid,a kid of 3years can operate i-pad conveniently .
I knew what was football during Atlanta 96,though I can't really comprehend d rules and regulation @ age 7
I didn't watch most games, because I was too naive to understand d rules,d game time wereearly part in d morning, games where played around 11pm,12am,1am,2am.d rules den for kids generally was to sleep after dinner,Max by 9pm,I dey bed Only my my siblings who re older would go out in d middle of d night to watch games at a popular joint where dey own a generator set...generator set den was very expensive and not to popular among d masses
So abeg in a nutshell,if u re not up to age 13-15years during 94 world cup and 96 Atlanta tourney, stop analysing matches for us O boy wetin you dey talk self. You no know say some people here even watched Argentina '78. Kog45 and Enomakos na lie? Prio to 1990 AFCON(I was already in Secondary school) I never understood tactics. I only knew names of players. I learned lots of tactics from the Westerhof's Eagles of Algiers 90. |

CaptainStephen: woow, I was ten then, the only thing I remember was the final match which France won. Many senior men here oh Well, the first Senior WC I watched was Mexico 86. I also watched little of Euro 84 and AFCON 84(though without much interest). I only watched because I saw people watching and had no choice but to watch. At France 98 I was already an undergraduate. Though school was on Semester break during the group stages. |
