TheSuperNerd:Ineligible abi unavailable? Hen,, I had to read that paragraph again to be sure they meant unavailable and not ineligible (in the context I was looking at it) |
The French team is so strong that players like Lacazette and Martial couldn't make the list. Hmm.. na wa o. Make we even get a player like Martial for our team sef. E for no better for us? |
Goke7:The Nigerian league IMO has majority of the blame. To develop a playing style you have to start from the home front. But unfortunately the playing stlyes of our local clubs are nothing to right home about. Plus also majority of our national team players play abroad. Apart from major events like the WC and the AFCON the team typically spend 3,4,5 days together. That is also a challenge. Jelisavic Tihomir aka Father Tiko, a Yugoslav, was Nigeria's first ever foreign coach from 1974 to 78. He was saddled with the responsibility of qualifying Nigeria for the 1978 WC. We were on course until Godwin Odiye's own goal in that final qualifying game. He brought the European flavor to our football. Yugoslavia (and Today Serbia) are known for producing quality coaches. Yugoslavia was a major footballing force in the 70s and 80s. Otto Gloria, a Brazilian, took over from Father Tiko From 1978-1982. Otto Gloria to me laid the foundation of modern day Nigerian football. He brought with him the "Samba" style of football which saw Brazil dominate the world all through the 50s to the 80s. Nigeria adopted the Brazilian style of play which also to a very large extent worked for us. Growing up as a young footballer then, we were thought to play the samba style. This requires plenty of ball possession and dribbling. It saves the team plenty of energy and wears out the other team. Here the ball does the running and not the players. While your opponent will be busy chasing the balls. In no time all Nigerian clubs adopted the Otto Gloria's Samba style. Even kids on the streets. Stephen Keshi was a product of this style which he was able to largely infuse into his SE team. Other Green Eagles coaches of the 80s like Festus Onigbinde and Paul Hamilton tried to maintain that style that brought us to lime light in Africa. Look at the 1980, 82, 84 and 88 AFCON teams how they played. You would see the Brazilian flavour. However, in 1989 came Clemence Westerhorf, a Dutch. For those that saw Westerhof's 1990 AFCON team you will obviously agree that they were a lot more athletic and faster paced than the 80s team. They played plenty of counter attacking football. That was the beginning of the European style of play. Plus a good number of our players started moving to Europe: Belgium and Holland mostly. Nigerian players of that era played with the Brazilian kind of skills and the Dutch type of athleticism. Every Nigerian footballer then was thought the trickery of dribbling your opponent one on one. If you don't know how to dribble you have not started. Jo Bonfere, another Dutch, came in and continued from where Westerhof stopped. All through the 90s Nigeria played with a blend of the Brazilian(innate) and Dutch style (adopted from our Dutch coaches) . Bora Milutinovic, a Yugoslav, took over from Bonfere, and continued with the European flavour. Going into the 2000s, Nigeria began to adopt more of the European system, besides, the Samba was no longer as efficient as it used to be. Onigbinde, Chukwu, Eguavoen and Amodu all tried to sustain our adopted Dutch system but they struggled. Lars Lagerback did not add any value to Nigerian football. There was also a Philippe Troussier On came Stephen Keshi who to a large extent was able to reintroduce our system of play of the 90s. May his soul rest in Peace. Ball possession and athleticism. Samson Siasia seemed not to have raised his coaching style from the youth level. Typically known for adventurous football with not much efforts to fortify his defense. He typically comes our with high scoring and high conceding teams. Sunday Oliseh's reign was too short to effect any meaning style of play to our football. Gernoth Rohr has brought a different dimension to Nigerian football. German football thrives on compact midfield and efficiency in the attack. They typically choke up games creating little space for their opponents to create chances and hitting them on the counter when they have the opportunity. It is left for us now to see how this system would work for us in the WC and in the coming years if Rohr remains. |
Mujtahida:Some times it is good to go back and watch the Super Eagles of the 90s. The way they handled the ball with so much perfection, skill and confidence. That Amokachi's Chester, before he laid the ball to Finidi who crossed to Yekini for our first goal, was simply out of this world. Even the athletism you talked about. Look also at the France 98 games and Atlanta Olympics. Our current teams don't play that way any more. Including Rohr's Eagles. |
realpoacher:Now you understand why I have not been sold on Uzoho being our first choice. In previous WCs our goalkeepers were our major strong saving grace. Rufai, Ike Shorumun, And Enyeama. You saw the huge roles they played in galvanizing the defense and the team at large. You saw all those point blank saves. Does Uzoho fit into those big shoes? Na God go save us for this WC o. As far as I am concerned we are going to this WC without a recognized goalkeeper. |
tbaba1234:Tbaba, you too like this Mbaise boy. Hahaha. |
stevemarkdangot:As if you knew I was thinking same. Seeing those saves he made has made me lose confidence in our current goalies the more. |
Taliban:Could have been a contender for the goal of the tournament. |
safarigirl:Oya team local spouse come and see this one o. |
tbaba1234:I heard that too but why would the ref decide that was an indirect Free-Kick considering the position? |
Throw back video: Nigeria vs Bulgaria 1994 WC. 24 years later, I still don't understand why that Stoitchkov's free-kick goal was disqualified (at 1mins 35secs). Anybody with any Ideas? Note that deliberate attempt by Amokachi to deny Yekini Nigeria's first goal in a WC (45secs) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVycJU0QG98 |
enomakos:Hahaha, my worry is just that Calabar pitch. And this is rainy season. |
ChangeIsCostant:Why were people laughing in that first pix? Accidents have become a normal occurrence in this country I guess ![]() |
SIGHTS AND SOUNDS OF RUSSIA TIPS ON HOW TO IMPRESS RUSSIAN MEN ( To whom it may concern) When looking at Russian men as potential matches, there are a few things you should know. Russian men are slightly easier to impress than Russian women, but they also make much faster judgments about whether or not a woman is right for them – and they can be very dismissive if they decide you’re not the one (and difficult to convince otherwise). Just as is the case for Russian women, there are certain things that Russian men like and even expect from Russian women and would like to see the same in a partner who is not from Russia – although they might never admit it. If a Russian man has stolen your heart, here are some ways to impress him. Challenge Him Russian women can sometimes be headstrong, and while they may complain about it, Russian men like a woman with a strong opinion. So if you have one, don’t be afraid to express it. This doesn’t mean challenging him on everything he says and does of course, but if you disagree with what he’s saying, speak up! Or, if you’re sick of him sitting in front of the TV all day, poke fun at him for it – he’ll find it refreshing and motivate rather than annoying. Make Him Breakfast Yes, almost everything that follows from this point is very gendered, but unfortunately, stereotypical gender roles are still alive and well in Russia. Russian men typically show a slight preference for this, even in small, sometimes almost unnoticeable or unexpected ways. One of these ways is that they will really appreciate if you make them breakfast, especially without being asked. Clean His Room This sounds strange, and you shouldn’t do it all the time, but if you find yourself in the situation where you’re in his house without him and it’s a mess, and you want to impress him, you should do a little bit of tidying up. This doesn’t mean going through his stuff, but just doing small things like washing the dishes, putting away the video games scattered all over the floor, making the bed, folding any clothes strewn about the place, and so on. He might not even mention it, or he might act offended, but he will actually be pleasantly surprised. Let Him Be a Gentleman Russian men are trained from a young age to be chivalrous, and you shouldn’t fight him too much when he tries to do the same to you. This means letting him pay the bill, letting him carry heavy items (and even ones that you could easily carry yourself), letting him give you his coat when it’s cold, pick the wine, fix stuff around the house, and so on. He’ll appreciate being able to do what he’s used to. This doesn’t mean you have to play an 18th-century damsel in distress, but just allow him to treat you like a lady when he attempts to do so. Dress Tastefully Russian women can be a bit over-the-top in their style, and Russian men can either love this or hate it. However you choose to dress, most Russian men will appreciate you looking put together. This could mean something as simple as clean jeans and shoes instead of tattered ones with old sneakers. As long as you try to wear high-quality, clean, neat clothes whether they’re simple or outrageous, it will be appreciated. Russian men have a bit of a distaste for messy looks, due to their upbringing, so doing that little bit to look nice will again help him to feel more at ease.

EEGA:If Uzoho fails in the WC it means we are out. That was why I asked that question. |
EEGA:You mean if Uzoho fails in the friendlies or in the WC? |
Humility017:I don't want to believe anyone here would NOT want to support the SE. But what I know is some are already waiting by the corner just in case the team fails to say "I said it, I said it,". So the team performing Well or flopping is a win-win for them. I for one advocated for Aiyenugba in the team. I have never been sold on Uzoho being our 1st choice. But Aiyenugba was not invited. Why didnt I come out here and start wailing about Aiyenugba's non-inclusion? Rohr has made his final decision on that so who am I? If Uzoho finally gets the nod as number 1 God forbid me wishing he fails just so I can come and start shouting "I said it, I said it". Who "I said it" epp? Nigeria performing well is what matters for me. It is a big blow and regret we are going to the WC with our goal keeping department being our weakest. But what can we do? |
MetalJigsaw:This one na double edged happiness. Traveling to Bulgaria for Medicals and receiving a Super Eagles call up same week. Just like you receiving an offer letter from Chevron or Mobil and your wife giving birth to your first child same week. This kind happiness fit lead to madness. Hahaha. |
KevinDein:Yes, I suspected. |
lexyman:You don't get the point. The team can play without Moses and even Mikel. But the Team is better offensively with Moses on the pitch. Yes Moses was not in the Argentina game but we would have been more offensive with him on the pitch. |
KevinDein:Oga, I am sure this was a slip of the fingers. Think you meant to type he is one for the past. |
confun:Yes o. The honorable mama of the house. Good you are following. I trust all is good with you and yours. |
Bolowolowo:Argentina never joke with WCs. Forget how they struggled during qualifiers and how they lost to us in a friendly. Croatia is our biggest chance. If we lose that game it is good night very early. |
Bolowolowo:Honestly, going by names, this team is good enough for a semi final place. But we know these days names only don't play football. With the kind of quality we have we really need to work very very hard to beat this team. And pray for Luck too. |
lexyman:Just like Argentina and Portugal can play without Messi and Ronaldo respectively. If Moses is unavailable it is a different thing. You have him fit and available and you put him on the bench? The only chance we created against Poland all 90mins was created and the penalty converted by Moses. That is a kind of player that can single handedly convert a draw to a win or a lose to a draw. He remains our most dangerous forward. |
Guess who is viewing today... Madam confun .............
