Honestly i don't know why guys were so hard on this young man Iheanacho, very unfair cos the criticism is damn too much and we need to be fair to balance things up and for those supporting the young man let take it cool cos we don't need to tag anyond as hater of super eagles coz of Iheanacho.

As icon4s said he was seeing Anti vs Pro Nacho which made the discussion watery and not educative for guys to learn from,Iheanacho will not be the first footballer to be in this position and the only way out is to continue working hard to make the team or look for another club that would give him playing time, nothing more.

Telling us he made the mistake going to Leicester is after thought cos 95% of us here were of the opinions that he should move from manchester city except thegoodjoe,so why castigating the young man.Do you guys think the young man is happy with the situation coz some think he is contented, forgetting he can't force himself out due to his contractual obligation with the club. The only way out is to have good talk with the coach on the way out.

Truly not having regular games will have negatives effect on his game at the WC cos this what affected Mikel at last WC and Nigeria suffered for it.It is not good having two great players in Iheanacho and Musa not making match day squad.

What i expect here are suggestions on the way out not trying to score point on Iheanacho challenges cos the young is down at the moment.I thought a lot should remember how we are always depress when we are having issues in our working place or schools,so the young man need our support and even all the super eagles players facing similar situation.
Thank you my brother

The intensity with which this Iheanacho case is being argued is unhealthy.

Do you know there will be people that will be wishing for Iheanacho not to score in any game just to prove a point and vice versa.

Iheanacho is our son but he is not the only Nigerian player in Europe. Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi have been getting plenty of playing time in the EPL yet we hardly discuss them. It is Iheanacho that has been on the bench and missing from match day squad back to back that is getting the headlines here.

Please let's thread softly on the Iheanacho case and move on.

Which kind yans be this? If the coach knew, then why did he pull him off? The pressure Naija was putting on them was increasing by the minute. They had to alter their formation to take out an attacker. At that time Bebeto was more rated than Ronaldo and they still had Bebeto on the pitch. So why we no chop 7. I could also say if we had Oliseh them for score only 1.
There are certain people who will always see negatives about Nigerian football.

I don't like engaging in this Iheanacho debate because there are some who will say he did the right thing even if he scores an own-goal. And there are some will pay a blind eye when he does something spectacular.

See, I don't even care of we crash out at the group stage.

The fact remains that for the first time since after Westerhoff we are having a coach that understands the elements of team building. And the NFF should try and keep Rohr as we build up for the 2022 WC.

The transformation in the team Rohr has achieved within his short spell thus far is very remarkable.

So let nobody come here and start shouting "we said it, we said it". It doesn't hold water because we are even the least seeded team in that group.

I have already made a comparison of this team with that of the 90s and how this team falls short. But that does not stop me from expecting a good outing for the boys.

Let us all assume dat we have all. Come to our senses, and realised dat u are right.. These bench warmers dat u spoke of, are we taking them to the WC at d expense of any player dat is performing extremely wonderfully in Europe??.
So Wat do u advise we do, strip this team of its key players cos they are bench warmers and bring in a new 11 consisting of world class players dat have never kicked a ball for d SE b4 now, or wat exactly.... How about we start proferring solutions like maybe d players we should call up instead... Cos I dunno y u guys will still criticize d team players wen they are obviously delivering... It's not we can field Aguero or Gaby Jesus, abi na ogbeche, Martins ,Fred Friday , &Bonaventure Una wan carry??
Funny post, but makes so much sense.

Nobody is pleased that Musa and Iheanacho are not seeing games in their club. In fact we will all be happy if they start playing again.

However, you cannot throw them out of the team when you don't have players that are better of.

Drop Iheanacho and invite who?

Some people come here to make comments like "we need to drop Balogun, he is too slow", " We need to drop Omeruo, he is too error prone", " We need to invite 2 additional AMs as back up for Mikel", " drop Iheanacho and Musa", blablabla. Ask them to name one credible replacement or recommendations for those positions dem no go say anything tangible.

We are Nigeria and we have standards. We know what we want and how to achieve it. This is the national team where if you are deficient in a particular department u cannot go and buy players.

If na to buy players even me I go join contribute money to the NFF make we go buy keeper just for this WC.

We all want the best for the nation. No need running this team down. Almost every team has one problem or the other to worry about.

No team is perfect.

Italy have never gone to any tournament as underdogs since the first world war.

These teams you mentioned had players in the form of their lives prior to the those tournaments.
I'm talking about performing players, not world class player.
Can you name any player in these teams you listed who played reserve league football or with the U21's prior to those tournaments?
Even encyclopedia cannot give you the answers to your question in the last paragraph.

Italy were not underdogs
But they were not among the pre-tournament favorites.

Nobody is saying we are going to win the WC.

And nothing wrong if some set a semi final target for us. Of course you know you set targets that are slightly above your reach but such that with hard work you can reach it.

We cannot be going into this world cup and be setting a 2nd round or q/final target. Something others have achieved a long time ago.

If we set a semifinal target and end up in the quarters good. We go with that and aim higher next time.

Please don't write this team off because some of the players play in less competitive leagues and some in the top leagues don't see playing time.

In my years of followership of the WC I have seen where teams that were written off emerge very strongly and teams loaded with world class players crumble.

Cameroon in 1990
the swedish team of 1994
the croatians in 1998
the turks in 2002
costa rica in brazil
etc..

Before the tournament, much of the team were either unknown or with underwhelming stats.

I feel that we have that kind of squad.

Before the qualifiers, very few gave us a chance but we qualified barely breaking a sweat.

I believe that Rohr knows what he is doing. The team is playing to its strengths.
Let me also add Bulgaria and Romania of 1994, Senegal of 2002, S Korea of 2002, USA of 2002, Ghana of 2010. Italy were no where near favorites to win the 2006 WC but they won it.

And if we want to go back further in time: Algeria of 1982 and Poland of 1986.

When we talk of a quality, tested and trusted AM, those guys you mentioned are not qualified for that role.

* Etebo: He's a player full of energy, he has goal scoring potentials. But he's not a technical player . He can hold the ball to some extent. He's not the type you can expect accurate, killer passes from. He really can't read the game.

* Iwobi: He's a very smart, fast (our team is widely known for this), technical, a potential goal scorer. A good passer. He can read the game but very slow at it. He posses a very terrible ability to hold the ball especially when hes closely marked, thus losing the ball or giving it away by passing to an opponent.

* Iheanacho: A good passer, dangerous at freekicks, a potential goal poacher. But he's very bad at trapping or controlling the ball.
Not a very fast player.
Lacks the ability to dribble his marker.
Oya name that tested and trusted AM that has ALL the qualities that the 3 players your described above do not have

Our attackers in 94 cannot be compared to our present attackers.
Remember, the 94 team went to the world cup on the back of winning the Afcon .
Same cant be said about this team with 70% experiencing their first big tournament experience with the NT on the back of a very poor form.
The odds aren't in our favor
Yeah true.

But one thing that has this team going is team chemistry.
Modern day football is not just about the number of star players you have but more of how you utilize your strategy to produce optimum performance from your players.

I am really happy the Croats are writing off Nigeria based on the number of big players they have and for us the lack of it.

They will not know what hit them come that day.

Eguavoen got the nod based on experience. Just like Mobi got the nod based on experience over a better Jero. We have been robbing better quality players their chances of playing based on experience.
Abegi, I know that is why you have been placing emphasis on Eguavoen versus Holland.

How many games did Jerome Shakponke play before then that you have concluded he was better than Mobi. It was just the friendly against Jamaica. A very easy game that we even drew 2-2. Jerome had a good game but every certified coach knows you don't throw away your regular player due to a single performance of a new player. Jamaica, Yugoslavia and Holland, were they on the same level?

I doubt Celestine Babayaro had a bad day. He was brilliant to the best of my knowledge. Remember him winning some balls from Clarence Seedorf. If Bora had faith in Mobi, he would not have started Jero ahead of Mobi when we played the Dutch team. I think we were balanced until Jero's injury. The introduction of Eguavoen (note, not Mobi) created a big disruption in the defence and the flood of goals was allowed in.

The team was poor but there were culprits to such humiliating defeat and Eguavoen was clearly one of the major ones.
We all knew Eguavoen was past his prime. He was only called up when the coaches spotted the inconsistency in Mobi.

You guys dont understand this, Ezenwa was not invited based on his current form as at when he was invited rather based on confidence inherited from previous performances. And I know you will ask are there not other goalkeepers doing well, well , there were but the goalkeeping job is a little different than outfield players. Keepers are mostly invited based on previous performances which usually means they have experience which translates into confidence and a crucial game like the one against Cameroon and Zambia is not an ideal occasion to try news hands.Ezenwa heroic performance at previous CHAN was still following him and lets be honest, my nigga rose to the occasion when he was needed.

Sir, what is your view on our defence considering that most of our defenders have never played in any international tournament before?
No.You deserve it for this night.

On the defense,

Echiejile is an AFCON winner and was at the 2010 WC.
Shehu and Ekong: Played every minute of the Rio Olympics football tourney. It is a major factor that has boosted both players' performance in the team.
Omeruo you know is an AFCON winner and featured in the last WC.
Balogun I know has enough playing experience to cope with the challenges ahead. Though his pace is still a course of worry.
As for Awaziem, Ebuehi, Aina and Idowu, I recon that those of them that will make the final squad would not have issues integrating with the rest of the team.

I think the unfortunate side of our right back preparation for the France '98 World Cup was the injury to Jero Shakpoke in the game against the Netherlands we lost 5-1. He was doing well until the injury. I think after Mobi had a tough game in the Friendly against Yugoslavia, Jero Shakpoke was picked. He did well but injured.

Eguavoen came into the game against Holland and Seedorf and co, tore Eguavoen to shreds. After that, we had to go back to Mobi and he started in the game against Spain at the World Cup.
Hahaha. The whole team had a bad day not just Eguavoen.

Jerome Shakponke first played in a 2-2 draw against Jamaica earlier in the year or so.

look, club performance puts players in the spotlight and gives them the necessary recognition.

Have you ever wonder why some players keep getting call ups despite under performing in their clubs? Spain kept inviting Torres even while performing abysmally for Chelsea. Fabregas was always one of the first name on the list despite not having enough playing time with Chelsea. That's one country as an example. Do you know while their coach kept faith with them-it was because he knew that they'll deliver.
Marcos Alonso has been phenomenal for Chelsea since last year. Do you know what? He is still hoping for his First invitation.

If I'm too tow your line of proposition, every player that comes to the spot light(is in form) should be invited ba? You can't have a national team by inviting all players base on their club performances alone or else you'll only be having new sets of players to execute each match...

Even Rohr knows this. That's while he has been inviting Musa, Onazi before he moved to Turkey, Moses Simon etc.
Onyekuru has been having Stellar performances consistently for his clubs but still he has only been having epileptic call-ups.

To cut the story short, club performance is one thing and replicating it in the national team is another.
You deserve a bowl of full chicken for dinner.
