Pls pls don't get Segun Odegbami wrong,he was able to analysed d match in his best way just like any normal football pundits and what he said or raise was factual and u(Icon4)have said d same thing here,d team need mixture of experience and young ones who are in form!simple.

On Odegbami naming his old eagles as d best, well go and watch eagles of 1980 and compare and contrast with different generations of Eagles, then u w agree with him.

I had d opportunity of watching different generations of eagles and i can tell u i w pick Odegbami over Finidi George anytime anyday,a winger just like modern day Christian Ronaldo.Remember Segun Odegbami had 28 goals in 42 appearances for Eagles, just to tell u how good big Segun was in Eagles shirt.

Do u remember Adokiye Aimesimeaka, very good winger better than Emma Amuneke, pls go and watch d video clips of Adokiye, this guy pushed Felix Owolabi back to left full back position just to tell u how good was Adokiye.

Christian Chuckwu one of d best CB to come out of Africa, very reliable and dependable, only Keshi can compete with this man or may be Uche Okechuckwu.

Did u know Mudashiru Lawal,a great midfielder that went to 76,78,80,82,84 Afcon, only Olishe cam compete with this man.

Henry Nwosu a great archon and creative midfielder that i w rate only Okocha ahead of him,pls go and watch Henry Nwosu at maroc 88.He made d star studded 1980 nations cup as a teenager.

This team should have been d first to qualify Nigeria for world cup in 1978 but Odiye denied us by scoring an own goal(d first golden generation of Super eagles 1976-1982)
I am not faulting Odegbami's analysis of the SA game.

I was only elaborating on what someone said about his choice of Nigeria's best players.

I may not have followed the 1980 AFCON but o have memories (though faint) of the end of Odegbami's generation. IE 1982 WC qualifiers and 1982 AFCON. Even though most of the memories were re-televised matches I watched in the mid 80s.

If I want to make a list of Nigeria's top players ever from that era I will only consider Odegbami and Chukwu.

The 1994 Class had better quality.

Odegbami and his mates that could not qualify Nigeria for any world cup? Then playing teams like Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt was like Arsenal playing Barça or Bayern. Pessin go almost piss for body.

I have a 90mins video of that Nigeria '80 AFCON final. The standards displayed by the Nigerian players was nothing compared to the 94 Class.

You cannot tell me Adokiye was better than Amuneke. Amuneke from 1994 to 1996/97 was about the most deadly left winger in the world!

I know those guys played good football then. Apart from the popular ones like Odegbami, Okala brothers, Chukwu, Adokiye, Muda Lawal, Ogedengbe, Silvanus Okpala, I still recall some Like Okey Esima, Tunde Bamidele, Haruna Elerika and so on.

But I think they (Odegbami and Co) are over exaggerating their abilities . They are not much better than the Maroc '88 team IMO that had Stephen Keshi, Austin Eguavoen, Sunday Oboigbe, Ademola Adeshina, Henry Nwosu, Samuel Okwaraji, Rashidi Yekini, Wole Odegbami, Monday Odiaka, Bright Omokaro,Mike Onyemachara, Peter Rufai, and Co.

Icon4 remember we had a discussion on d need for Rohr to look at home front for players but guys here kick against it saying they are not good enough for national team but now we are having serious issue in goalkeeping and defence.

The same thing happened to Keshi prior to Afcon 2013 coz at that period we lacked quality defenders in Europe,Keshi look inward and discovered Oboboana,Eguekwe,Odunlami and moved Omeruo to CB when Yobo was losing it.

Rohr need to look inward coz we are lacking quality defenders in Europe and this was d reason a Porto B defender needs come in as CB and there is need for us to stop this attitudes of always forcing our players to early retirement coz I don't know why player like Oboboana was not considered for invitation again despite still playing in Europe.

On goalkeeping, well we have seen what happened against south Africa that in d absence of Ikeme we are in trouble coz I don't see Akpeyi,Ezenwa,Alampasu stepping into Ikeme shoe for now but I believe Austin Ejide and Dele Aiyenuga are still active,d duo are still better as cover up,i remember at a time Spain always have Casillas,Valdez,Reina in d national team,so what stop us from doing d same.
A nice piece you have here.

I am particularly about the issue of being in a haste to always offload our older players.

I have spoken against it over and over, back and forth. We need the experienced players in the team.
They are so quick to want to offload Omeruo, Onazi, Echiejile and Shehu. I know how some even bad mouthed Mikel here until Mikel shut them up against Zambia and Algeria.

They want to turn the Super Eagles to an U21 team. Mba nu. That lack of experience will surely show las-las. Just like the SA game and Ajax against Manchester United at Europa league.

We lost to SA due to the gross inexperience in the team. Even the Onazi himself that was the captain that was supposed to drive the troupe how experienced is he?

Talking about Obaobona. He suffered same fate with Ambrose here. They were so bad mouthed and every goal we conceded were credited to them. Just like they are doing for Akpeyi and Onazi now.

Someone even said here that we(they) will soon send out Omeruo just as they did for his partner, Obaobona. Just because of the love for Awaziem.

Talking about the goalies, I don't think calling back Ejide And Ayenugba is a good idea.

Emmanuel Daniel haven't played a game yet for Orlando Pirates. Must be said the last season in Rangers, he was not the first choice. Nana Bonsu, kept about 80% of Rangers games, the other 20% was shared between Emmanuel Daniel and Akor Itodo.

Personally, I wouldn't suggest Emmanuel to start for the Super Eagles. I believe he has lost a certain spark in his game which he had in abundance while he was an upcoming keeper. These days, there's a lot of big manism in his game. He has become arrogant and pompous because he feels he have arrived.

I'm a huge fan of Daniel. I had him as Vincent Enyeamas successor especially after his heroics against Sfaxien in Tunisia. A game he saved a penalty and posted a shut out that she Rangers qualify for the group stages of the Confederations cup.

For now, he's not ready for the Super Eagles.

This is coming from a big fan.
Akpeyi, Ezenwa, Alampasu, Daniel not good enough So now which other goalies can you recommend. Whether home or foreign based?

Dont worry, cameroun game is next. We will see how his expereience plays out. Experience. Experience, how did Echiejile fair in that game? Would u honestly beat your chest and say he had a good game?

I think we still dont get it. We lost the game from our midfield. Talking about rookie defender or whatever the case is , is practically immaterial. We have seen good midfielders make defenders look soooo gorgeous. And when all that is not in place,
Same defenders get jittery. And thats just exactly what happened. We lost the game from wrong tactics and bad midfield combo. PERIOD!
Anyone but omeruo please
No worries. Just pray Balogun is back in time for the Cameroon game.

All just because Alampasu didn't make match day squad. Haha haha

The truth is there are no good goalkeepers in Africa any more. I mentioned this fact months ago.

If I look into the NPFL for instance I can't even think of any goalie that is credible enough to face Cameroon in the absence of Ikeme.

No just mention Alampasu o bc that game go be like horror movie. I no go watch.

I don't even know why Emmanuel Daniel is being ignored. I have more confidence in him than Alampasu.

Let us see the goalies Rohr will invite against Cameroon.

Realistically speaking, let's not talk as if we have numerous options at the rear. Our best defenders remain Omeruo, Ekong and Balogun. Against cameroon we will need one or a couple solid defensive midfielders who are also ball playing ones. We will need a solid left back. For me Omeruo should remain at RB especially as Balogun is expected to return.

Modified.
The Defensive Midfielder should help support our defenders, but should still have a knack for good passes. As we have to be at A grade in our flowing game against Cameroon.

I will be scared to start a rookie again like Awaziem. Else I would have looked in the direction of Ola Aina for the LB role. If John Ogu can play there - great! Because he is a lefty
Joebie, I salute you for your objectivity. That is the spirit.

You were one of those that strongly recommended Awaziem to start over Omeruo. But after the game you have come to realize why some of us wanted Omeruo no matter how Awaziem performed at the 'drills'.

You now understand why I have always been against starting a rookie in the heart of the defense.

With time I know this wound will heal.

I do not hurl criticisms at Vidic or Hummels when he misses clearances. The judgment comes from overall play. If Onazi drifted off position a few times, he will not earn critical statements from me. If Echiejile was off position once in a while, he will not get criticised by me.

However, these men have defaulted repeatedly for years to a point it is suffocating. Then doing it repeatedly in the last game earns my frustration.

Onazi could not deliver on good final ball and he kept fighting to give it. That is why I criticise him. Not because of a few. Keep in mind I was one of the few who gave Omeruo a nod despite his mistake in the game against Zambia. Because, apart from that mistake he had a good game.
You gave Omeruo the nod against Zambia because his position was not directly up for contest with Awaziem.

My critique of Akpeyi is not in comparison With Awaziem but his keeping ability. The ball was close to him and he failed to save it.

I wonder where you got the notion that I felt Awaziem had a good game. The young man was awful and I even went as far as saying even Franco Baresi would have a poor game in such situation. The young man was exposed.

This not just an Awaziem issue but an issue I hope Rohr addresses. That was why I pointed out the changes Keshi made that brought stability to our defensive set up.

One was the introduction of Hope Akpan and the other dropping Echiejile for Oshaniwa.

So I am not exonerating Awaziem but saying the situation made having a good game difficult.
Eh na so. Even Messi would have had a poor game.

Baresi would have jumped and missed that header and played those wayward kicks. Just continue giving excuses for your favorite players.

Nigeria: Why Bafana Loss Can Be a Luxury for Eagles

By Jide Alaka

Three days after, what is left is a dull pain in place of the thudding heart palpitation on Saturday. The memory of the 2-0 loss in Uyo is still very present with the goals flashing through our collective consciousness.

Particularly the first, by Tokelo Rantie, his third goal against Nigeria in just the 11 goals he has scored for his country. Does he just love playing Nigeria or is it the Godswill Akpabio Stadium pitch that he loves?

Gernot Rohr suffered his first loss as Super Eagles manager while the South Africans enjoyed a first-ever win over their Nigerian opponents since their first competitive matchup in 1992.

So what really happened to the very "young" Nigerian side? Is there a need to panic? We have heard the Minister called an emergency meeting of the Nigeria Football Federation [NFF] executive committee in Abuja on Monday to discuss the loss.
As much as it is worth, there is an interesting post by a former national team player, Adokiye Amiesimaka, who believes the goal posts have been moved on account of Rohr being a foreigner.

I would state the following things, which I believe, make this loss a luxury that can become a stepping stone.

Calls for Mikel's retirement will be cooled

It was unfortunate the substantive captain of the team, Mikel Obi, was unavailable but it was also fortunate for the former Chelsea midfielder as his worth definitely escalated with his absence. With no coordinating general in the middle of the park, the Eagles floundered when they were put under the pressure of giving up the first goal and were very exposed for the second.

We have no goalkeeper at the moment

This is not in any way blaming the two goals conceded last Saturday on Daniel Akpeyi - it just subsists that the Chippa United goaltender has not been one to elicit much confidence. Though it has to be said - to his credit that he is a good shot-stopper, his clout and knowledge of the game do nothing to help his defenders.

Iheanacho cannot perform alone in a 4-3-3

It was plain for all to see that Kelechi Iheanacho will not succeed as a lone striker - that is why Pep Guardiola is willing to listen to offers for him. He is not very fast and gets isolated easily upfront. Though the former U-17 World Cup winner is very good in combination play, his ability to play with his back to goal has never been his strongest point.
The core players need more playing time

Bafana Bafana especially cruelly exposed the rustiness in the games of both Alex Iwobi and Iheanacho especially. There was no rhythm to their game as their lack of game time towards the end of the season came to the fore. The best thing for Rohr and the Eagles would be for his core players to play week in, week out for their respective clubs.

So many gaps for Rohr to plug

Stuart Baxter explained his game tactics in the post-match press conference and it was very simple - let the Nigerians have the ball and in the second half, the team moved five metres forward and that was the end of the domination enjoyed by the home team. Itumeleng Khune, in goal for Bafana Bafana, was not put under any pressure despite the 10 corner kicks the Eagles won.

Why have the goal posts been moved?

Amiesimaka wrote on Facebook, "Since Nigeria lost 2-0 at home in Uyo to South Africa this evening (for the first time in a competitive encounter), I've heard too many Nigerians request that the Rohr-led technical crew should be absolved from blame, noting how the game can be unpredictable, etc.

"Let me reiterate that Nigeria never lost to South Africa, home or away, in a competitive match under an indigenous coach!
"Would the narrative not have been different had a Nigerian been in Rohr's shoes today?

"Imagine for a moment that it was our own Christian Chukwu, or, the late Amodu Shuaibu, or, the late Stephen Keshi...

"No doubt, allegations of 'technical incompetence', 'inability to read a match', etc., would have been made against him, with very loud calls for "the infallible white man" to take over."

Why is the NFF apologizing?

Ahmed Fresh Yusuf, an NFF executive board member, wrote on Twitter, "Crucial matches ahead of @NGSuperEagles, the @BafanaBafana game has opened our eyes to our flaws. We apologized for the poor result. Thanks!

"This is the moment we should all support @NGSuperEagles. Enough of the blame game; let's help the team focus ahead of the Cameron game." But really, why is the NFF apologizing for a loss? No football team no matter how good is mandated to go unbeaten in any tournament or league - defeat is all part of the game. What they should be apologizing for is the non-explanation of missing balls and other issues - not losing a game!

We heard that the NFF did not have $250 to clear the balls sent by CAF, which meant the players never trained with the official match balls until Saturday. But just like other misdemeanours in the past, we are almost sure nobody will be held responsible for that mishap.
Wow! Excellent analysis from an icon of the game.

Got thier number online,

They took my number and sent to a police team around

The team called me quickly

I answered and told them what was going on.

After the robbers cudnt open my gate. They proceeded to my neighbors which opened.

I cud hear thier screams
Begging for thier life's.
I called the cops again. They asked me whaf was going on. I said the robbery is ongoing.
They said they are close.

I called and called the line. Police didn't pick my calls.

After they robbers finished with my neighbors. They left.
About two hours later. I heard a police siren from afar. They came to my compound in four vans.

They spent 20 minutes and left.

The robbers spent more than one hour in our compound.
We were prompt in informing the police. But they purposely refused to show up.

I will leave Nigeria...This country is messed up.

Onazi was better than the other midfielders, he never lost a duel in that encounter. While Etebo had a poor game, Ndidi was the worst of them all.
Ndidi barely found the next man with his passes, in the 2nd half, he was in no man's land, I'm not sure he knew the role he was playing.
I guess, he escaped criticism because he plays in the Epl. Just like people were making excuses for Kelechi and Iwobi, instead the Nigerian psycho fans would rather throw Moses Simon (who actually tried to make something happen) under the bus. If Moses Simon was playing for Watford, his efforts would have been more appreciated.
The selective criticism was unimaginable.

Search For Top Striker – Rohr Beams Searchlight On Midtjylland Paul”Nigerian Crouch” Onachu

A source close to the coach of the Super Eagles Gernot Rohr has once again confirmed Paul Onuachu of FC Midtjylland is firmly in the plans of the coach as the search for a classic number nine continues.
Rohr is searching for a top striker after Manchester City Kelechi Iheanacho failed to justify his spot as the top striker in their last game against South Africa which the Eagles lost 0-2.
Although Tiajin Teda Brown Ideye is still the favourite to clinch the role, Rohr has sounded out his assistants to keep a close watch on Onuachu who took the Danish League by storm last season with 24 goals to his name.
23 year old Onuachu stands at an impressive height of over six feet and his physical presence alone is part of what Rohr believes his team presently lacks in attack bar Ideye who is in his 30’s.
However with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) yet to secure any friendly game ahead of their next competitive game in September, the chances of the forward having a chance will only be enhanced if he maintains his form when the Danish League resumes.

Unfortunately he's the fall guy in all of these. At the drop of the hat, I can name 8 players who performed worse than him. Even Ndidi seem to have escaped scrutiny, I can hardly make out his positioning and what he actually brought to that game. If you ask me, the game absolutely passed him by.
At a point in time a few days ago I was even thinking of deactivating my account from here and leave because of the kind of analysis I was reading.

No objectivity. Hate, favoritism, selective criticism and so on.

I am really disappointed.

Y E S!!! The point is that you don't even see Enyeama in such conditions most times because he organises his defence well. But he did the right thing in that situation
But at that point in time where was the 'organized defense ' that he was left one on one with Rantie. And he did the 'right thing' by allowing Rantie to dribble him like an amateur keeper right?

yes, even Ajiboye wouldn't make such clumsy mistake
Femi Thomas, Ajiboye.

Wait. Which clumsy mistake?

Meaning taking one for the team at that particular part of the pitch would result in a red card and a penalty
And you feel the way Enyeama handled it and got dribbled like an Amerture was 'fantastic' as you put it.
