TheSuperNerd: As usual, someone will always come and say something out of context without reading the comments properly.
Listen again.... The Camerounians defenders of Ngadjui and Teiku are NOT FAST and will struggle against the Pace of Musa, Kayode, Nacho, Moses if we play to our strengths.
Even their fullbacks will struggle against our wingers' pace compared to what we will face against theirs. They will trouble us from the wings but so will we and also through the center if our game plan goes well.
Even Aboubakar is not fast compared to Nacho and Kayode. He only has good hold-up play and power as his main strengths.
Nobody said Moukandjo and Bassogog are not fast. Besides the speed of the Camerounians come from their wingers (Moukandjo and Bassogog) and also Anguissa in the advanced midfield position.
Period! These 3 guys: Bassogog, Moukanjo and Anguissa, o boy. Na dem be the Cameroon o. The rest na nonsense. The Australians have struggled to match up with their pace and strength o |

What has just happened to Cameroon is one of the major reasons no African team is ready to win the WC.
You just missed a very glaring chance to make it 2-0 and barely 1 or 2 min later you give away a cheap penalty to make it 1-1. |

TheSuperNerd: Bafana Bafana Star – We Have Shown Cameroon How To Beat Nigeria
https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/IMG_3119.jpg
South Africa forward Themba Zwane who starred in their 2-0 win over Nigeria says Bafana Bafana have shown the rest of the world how to beat the senior national team of Nigeria.
The midfielder struck the woodwork twice in the game said South Africa could have won the game by more goals as the 2-0 scoreline didn’t justify their dominace in the game played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
He said their tactics of hitting Nigeria on the counter paid off, and insist that teams playing Nigeria who are to take on Cameroon next in the World Cup 2018 Qualifiers can borrow a leaf from their game plan.
“Upon our arrival at the airport there in Nigeria, some of the locals told us that we must forget about the possibility of beating their senior national team, especially at home. They told us that we were going to lose that encounter.
“That alone was the motivation for us to do well in that match. We also had a proper game plan. The coach told us to always maintain shape at the back and catch them on the counter. And we did that pretty well.”

komekn: Football has always been about progression in effect continous improvement.
What sets Ronaldo and Messi apart amongst other great players is they keep improving.
You could be a Lion at U17 level a year later you haven't upped your game and you get left behind. Intrinsic to football progression is the right mental attitude and resilience.
Youth players are only showing potential sometimes very good potential. That potential has to be confirmed and proven on the testing grounds of the football pitch at your professional football club.
I remember seeing a player at youth level he was fantastic at 14/15 playing right back for an EPL U16 side. He was continously the MOTM in most games he played. By 16 he had peaked did not improve and he was released and all my projection were 100% wrong.
This player could not cope with loss if his football career no money, etc he is currently now at her Majesties pleasure in the grey bar hotel.
All these guys were not better than Rabui ((new JJay)in his hey day classed among the top teenage prospects in the world. He is now forgotten and going nowhere fast.
Its all potential yet to be confirmed you must make good use of your opportunities. Or be forgotten. Right now the teenagers Mbappe and Dembele are proven, tested and highly wanted by all top clubs. In fact I can't agree more with you. Most talented young players end up not living up to expectations. |

TheSuperNerd: Cameroun were literally opened up and torn apart times without number in the first half with most of the Chilean incursions/invasion coming from the Camerounian left back's wing.
But this could be easily explained as this:
Fai, the lad who started as left back for Cameroon against Chile is actually a right back predominantly even though he featured a couple of times as a left back for his club side.
The first choice Left back is Oyongo and he is injured hence he is sitting out this tournament This made Broos utilise Fai as his left back and also saw Mabouka starring as right back.
So Rohr should not think Fai will play left back against us. Oyongo should or may be back by August.
And that will see Fai return to right back.
First half minor brief:
The first 10 mins of that game, Chile tore Fai to pieces time after time down his wing but Ondoa for the most parts and some desperate defending denied Chile.
Even Chile's disallowed first goal due to VAR came through the left-side of the central defence. The Chile no.6 was down that side really troubled them with runs in behind Fai and the midfielders led by Vidal were just sending through those fine throughballs.
First Half... Cameroun did get forward majorly on two occasions to create real chances.. But It was Chile all the way all half. They kept pressing and opening up Cameroun thru mostly thru Fai's side But couldn't beat That Wall called Ondoa.
WE WILL MEET A WALL IN ONDOA EVEN IF WE BREAK APART NGADJUI AND TEIKU AND THE FULLBACKS.
But I have to point out Cameroun's deadliness from Set pieces.
That goal scored by Ngadjui but was cancelled due to an infringement from aboubakar on a Chilean Defender making way for Ngadjui to convert with a neat header is one to watch.
Michael Ngadjui's goal was no fluke even though it was cancelled. He has done same occasionally for Cameroun and for his club side. He is a force in the Air. Remember his crucial goals for Cameroun against Guinea Bissau and Ghana at the Afcon?? Yes.. he is a towering defender that is also a goal threat from set pieces.
Second half minor brief:
The second half saw Cameroun play a bit more than they did in the first half. Cameroun lacks technical giftedness in the middle but their midfielders' industriousness and tireless plays make up somewhat for it.
Siani and Djoum are good midfield ball players with Siani the DMF and Djoum the CMF... But Djoum can also play DMF if need be.
In Nguissa, they have another tireless runner. Replaced Zoua in Cameroun's Afcon XI. He started the game against Chile.
We saw a moment of little take-on brilliance from bassogog and couple of great moments from Moukandjo but Cameroun's strike force are quite limited and not adventurous enough.
But Remember... it was Chile they played. Very solid opposition.
Vincent Aboubakar did pretty good as the no.9 with a few good hold-up plays to bring the likes of Moukandjo and Bassogog in BUT IN ALL CAMEROUN LOOKRD SO DISJOINTED IN ATTACK.
And let us be mindful of giving away set-pieces anyhow around our box because Moukandjo can actually hit them in. He missed today but his growing reputation is known from set pieces including Free kicks.
Cameroun had one game plan all game... Sit back... try to mark out the Chilean players and push them into making misplaced passes and then pick up those loose balls and go on the counter. Cameroun was all about Counter attack today. They have no special interest in bossing possession but they did enjoy a short spell of fine possession play in the second half.
Also, Cameroun's wingers, Bassogog and Captain Moukandjo do fall back to help their fullbacks. That is something I saw time and time again... They are tireless runners People. We really have a big battle on our hands.
This was Cameroun's best and strongest Side apart from the absence of Oyongo. And I hope Rohr and his crew take SOUND notes.
Chile didn't have to go physical with them except for maybe Vidal's occasional physical plays to keep Chile's dominance in midfield.
Chile made use of Quick passing and Mobility to always get behind the Camerounian defence. And mehn those through balls they kept threading through the Camerounian defence especially to the left side of Cameroun's defence were sweet to watch... Mikel can do this.
We NEED MIKEL BADLY FOR THIS CAMEROUN DOUBLE HEADER. We cannot afford to face Cameorun without him.
Conclusion: I could say and type a lot more observations and all but this may do for now. Besides I got things I have to finish up here and for later.... so lemme drop at this point.
The game was fun to watch and really it won't be easy taking on the African Champions. But hopefully we will be ready when the lions come roaring our way in August and September. Good analysis. You know, as I was watching how Chile were using those through balls mostly in that first half, I was just talking to myself say ' see what we were supposed to do against SA'. But well, they are Chile and we are Nigeria. The way the Chileans were even bossing the Cameroonian midfield with Athletism self. Naija we get a long way to go o. |

goldfish80: We have to be at our very best to beat these Camerounians.. Anything less, won't end up good.
If Rohr picks those lemon players like Awaziem, Osimhen and co against Cameroon. They will beat us over 2 the legs, trust me. After watching the intensity with which the Chileans attacked Cameroon yet the first half ended 0-0. Men fear catch me o. It took the brilliance and artistry of Substitute Sanchez for both goals to be scored. Creativity is the only way to beat a team like that. |

komekn: Watching Cameroon they playing predominantly off the cuff. Very limited team cohesion and the struggle to get beyond 4/5 passes.
They are poor technically and Aboubacar thier main man seems not particularly quick or fast strong yes. That may be a reflection of the top quality opposition.
For Chile to be here they may beaten Argentina and Brazil.
Otherwise Cameroon seem devoid of ideas.
We will most definitely 100% desperately need Mikel Obi they are very physical and we need our big boys for this game. You don't know that is how Cameroon plays? They never play organized fanciful football. Teams like these you need class and artistry to conquer them. God help us to have Mikel fully fit. He will be greatly needed in that AM position. |

CMR Vs CHI 0:0 HT.
We need to play with so much attacking intensity to be able to tear the Cameroonian defense the way Chile is doing.
But for poor finishing Cameroon should be 2 or 3 down.
We really need Mikel and V. Moses in that game. Our young forwards we run into problems with the physical and stubborn Cameroon side. |

goldfish80: I cannot keep repeating myself why those balls couldn't/ wouldn't get through.
You said Suarez doesn't hold up play? This is the kind of things you come up with just to defend Kelechi. Suarez is a highly skilled forward who is very hard to disposes with his low centre gravity. Once he's in the ball, you may need to chase him with a cutlass to disposes him. You want to really compare his hold up play with Kelechi's? Rantie is a smallish forward but he's a bit like Suarez with his low centre gravity making it hard for people to take the ball of him. Same culd be said about Rossi.
Kelechi unfortunately, have lost some of those skills we saw at the U17s. It appears they have been coached out of him at Man City. @ your last paragraph. You expect the competition at the U17 level to be same at senior level? Let him go back and play against U17s and let's see if the skills have been coached out of him by City. |

TheGoodJoe: That is what I am saying. Talent wise, Hope Akpan is not a better defensive midfielder than Onazi but he steadied our ship when he came in because he stayed organized at the back.
So this is not about who is better. It is about who is ready to shield and protect the defence. In the case where you believe the South Africans are deadlier in offence, the need for someone who is ready to stay organized at the back is required.
I am very interested in knowing if Mikel Agu is ready to stay at the back and shield the defence. If he is then that was another big mistake Rohr made. I was not proposing which player is better or not. I was only reminding you that Togo's opposition was not as strong as SA's opposition. So whatever deductions and recommendations you are trying to make put that into cognisance. |

TheGoodJoe:
I repeat, our problem was lack of a standing four. If the opposition of Togo is weaker than the South Africans then it is even a bigger reason to have a standing four in the South African game. You were trying to propose Mikel Agu would have been a better DM which is why I chipped that in. |

TheGoodJoe: I missed the Togo game but I feel the defence against Togo was convincing because of Mikel Agu being organized in front of the defence. Unfortunately, I can not say for sure if Agu was the difference but I wish I can get my hand on that tape.
If Agu was a standing four in that match and worked closely with the defence during build up and defending, then his absence was a detriment to the team. Can you compare the weight of Togo's opposition Vs SA's opposition? |

Kog45: Yes truly we have a great squad in 1994 but that doesn't guaranteed our qualification coz it almost slip away in cote d voire where we lost by 2 goals to 1,this match cost Siasia his starting line up in Eagles when he refused to give a cleared pass to Yekini and brought an end to Reuben Agboola career with eagles.
Due to this loss we needed to wait till last match against Algeria which ended 1 goal apiece before our qualification was guaranteed whereas Cameroon already booked d ticket.
In other words not all good team make it to d world cup,a slip in a match can be an obstacle for qualification.Remember how France lost to Bulgaria prior to US 94,just 5 mins to d end of d match.
Icon4 good to share old memories with u. Please add 's' to the icon4. Thanks. Yes we lost 2-1 to CIV in Abidjan but we trashed them 4-1 in Lagos. Imagine emerging from a group that had Nigeria, CIV and Algeria. If na now we no go qualify sef. Good memories. |

Kog45: My man am not saying they are better but d likes of Odegbami,Chuckwu, muda Lawal,Adokiye and probably Henry Nwosu w break into Eagles US 94 squad.
Mind u not qualify for world cup should not be your yardstick, this team closely make it and remember then to qualify for world cup in Africa was tougher and it even takes two team to make it.
Nigeria was able to make it for d first time in US 94 when there was added slot for Africa. In d 80s it was Cameroon,Morocco,Algeria,Tunisia,Egypt making swayed.
Oh 1980 standard to 1994 standard would just be like comparing 1982 world cup standard to 1994 standard but player like Paulo Rossi of Italy w make any team of US 94 or what do u want to say of Dino Zoff of famous 1982 world cup or what do u have to say about great Pele who is still regarded as d best player ever despite playing in 60s
Remember till today Netherlands still rate Johan Cryuff leading team of 1978 world cup as d best till today in Holland history. What of England that are still rating 1966 world cup team as d best, pls can u compare d standard with England 1990 semi finalist.
1980 nations cup was a strong squad than 1988 maroc team, wole Odegbami,Folorunsho Okenla,Sunday Eboigbe,Ndubuisi Okosieme can not make 80 nations cup squad.
Pls forget the modern day rating,Adokiye w bench Emma Amuneke anytime anyway.I told u Adokiye displaced great Owolabi from that position, just to tell u how highly rated Adokiye was at that time.Pls tell me a player Amuneke was benching at that time,Victor Ikpeba abi but Ikpeba cannot make 1980 squad. @ your first paragraph. That's why I said I can only consider Odegbami and Chukwu among Nigeria's top 10 best. I know Felix Owolabi(aka Owoblow) Wella. Growing up way back some of us used to take his identity on the field of play. Particularly wingers. Adokiye was good as a winger but I still rate Emmanuel Amuneke ahead of him. Amuneke that was so lethal that his every move was electrical and would always create panic in the opposing defense. Created and scored lots of important goals for Nigeria even with his short stink in the national team owing to injuries. To play for Barcelona FC no be beans o. He and Finidi were rated among the best Wingers in the world then (though no official ratings) Talking about WC slots. Even if there was only one slot available for Africa in that 1994 we would have taken it. Gba bee. Muda Lawal was a midfielder then right? Can't remember. But if he was, compare him with the likes of Oliseh and Okocha. The 94 team erased the numerous heart aches we had in the 1980s. O I remember one clip I saw of the qualifiers for the 1978 WC. Tunisia Vs Nigerian. A Tunisian player called 'Hagger'. We lost that game either 3-0 or 3-1 after losing the first leg 0-1 in Nigeria. |

seriously. the lack of it is hampering the growth and performances of African teams in world tourneys at all levels both male and female levels.
a frequent U19 and U17 tourney for male and female national teams would do a lot of good. I think CAF should modify the female U20 and U17 qualifiers to what is obtained for the men's game. Something like CAF U20 or U17 Women's championship that will have 8 teams battling for the available qualifying slots. Unlike the strictly home and away basis currently being run. |
