TheGoodJoe: Kelechi Nwakali was invited for the qualifiers too. I am talking about the screening process. It was likely about finding out talents better than the already assembled team. In the already assembled team, even foreigners can get the nod.
With the screening team, BASED ON LOGISTICS, mostly local players get the chance of joining. It takes a process to apply for players already in clubs to come in. Then imagine for just a screening process. Mostly local players from where? Which clubs? |

TheGoodJoe: Process. You can not drag these players out from their club for a screening process. After the qualifiers, there is most times a camping for the World Youth Championship where the coach has the opportunity of inviting selected pros.
The qualifiers took place immediately after the screening process. Did he even consider the home-based players who would have been easy to 'drag' out of their clubs? I still ask: where was Steven Odey when Amuneke was making his selections? |

The qualifiers took place immediately after the screening process. When I thought Amuneke did not know the strength of the challenge he had ahead of him was when he was already talking about winning the WYC. It meant he felt he already had what it takes to conquer the world so he stuck to 'his boys'. |

He just chose to invite only his boys who are foreign based. Simple. |

TheGoodJoe: Samson Siasia will do a wonderful work if it comes to training the boys for the tournament and playing good football. The challenge comes from the coach battling with finances.
If the NFF pays him on time and there is support from multinationals and concerned stakeholders, Siasia can go places with our current crop of talents.
Also with a strict warning of no backhand dealings for players to make the final cut, we can have a brilliant campaign.
With finances in place, Siasia will get my support. Siasia to me is a better pick. He is very experienced at youth level. He knows what it takes to assemble an U20 team. NFF will always be NFF. Siasia has a way of tinkering his boys despite NFF failures. 2005 Flying Eagles And 2016 Dream Team are typical examples. |

I did not read of foreign based players making it to the Amunike U20 Open camp for screening. I think this was the first stage because it was the qualifiers. If we qualified, there would have been room for foreign talents like Ovie and Henry Onyekuru. Iheanacho and Kelechi Nwakali were part of Manu's U20 African qualifiers even though they were foreign based. |

But Alampasu stands at 1.99m (6ft 7inches or so)....
Excellent heights for Goalies.
Ikeme is 1.93m.... Enyeama is 1.82m....
Mehn... all are tall.... but tall pass tall.... It means Uzoho will likely overtake Alampasu since he (Uzoho) is still 18. Alampasu is 20 already. |

Meaning he was 13 at that tourney. Alampasu's back up goalies were really very small. imagine how it would have looked for Uzoho or AbdulAzeez to have mounted the post then per adventure Alampasu was injured. If fairness is applied in that next U20 selection. That team will go places. Some of those Amuneke's boys are even still eligible. That NPFL U17 team should be a bedrock. I would personally recommend Siasia for that U20 job or what do you think? |

komekn: When was the U17 tournament? Consider time lapse you cannot make an application on past glories. How many senior caps has he won, has he been playing in a top European club. Has he played Champions league what are his stats, top goal scorer in league or club, highest number of assists, etc. Bearing in mind your earlier assertion, What Special Talent
If he had come to Arsenal's academy as a young teenager there would be no issues he would now be classed as home grown.
However, he has been in Holland for the past 2/3 years, doing what I do believe he will face work permit issues even on appeal I doubt if he will be granted a permit.
Just my opinion.
p.s. Checked his Stats, he is 20 now and has played 23 games and 1 goal. Emm.... I see reasons with some of your points. But let me make some amendments. Kelechi Nwakali has not played up to even 2 yrs in Holland. First off, he featured in the 2015 FIFA U17 in November 2015, which is not up to 2yrs ago and he was not yet in Holland then. Secondly If he was U17 in November 2015, this is about 18months after. So he cannot be 20 yet. He should be 19 at most. |

TheSuperNerd: Sebi I have been saying this thing.... There is just no way Rohr will give a debut to a rookie/greenhorn against South Africa or Cameroun when Akpeyi is still available.... I have been saying that all our cry for young keepers won't work now but for the near future post-qualifiers... coz we are stuck with Akpeyi for now and Rohr sees him as *tested* and *somewhat trusted* despite his shaky displays oftentimes....
We just have to accept the fact that Alampasu, Nwokolor, Emma Daniel, Osigwe etc etc (plus any other goalie prospect we have) are for the near future and eventual long-term but right now, The technical crew won't toy or experiment with that Goalie position.... coz the competitive games ahead of us are crucial... very crucial.... ..........................................................................................................
Nigeria: Inviting New Goalkeepers to Super Eagles May Hurt Us, Says Agu By Alex Monye
Super Eagles Goalkeeper Trainer, Alloy Agu, has said that the Coach Gernor Rohr-led Super Eagles technical crew would not inject new goalkeepers to the current team ahead of the 2019 Nation Cup qualifier showdown against South Africa in Uyo.
Speaking with The Guardian, Alloy, who expressed confidence over the goalkeepers that include Carl Ikeme, Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa, said it would be a dangerous precedence for the technical crew to start inviting younger goaltenders to its fold, as the team prepares for the crucial AFCON game against South Africa.
He reasoned that using experienced and well exposed goalkeepers for the AFCON and during the World Cup qualifiers would assist the Nigeria team gets the needed results.
The former Super Eagles captain explained that the reason for this decision is to ensure that a reliable goalkeeper is picked for the international engagements.
He noted that testing new goalkeepers ahead of the South Africa tie would not augur well for the Super Eagles because of the short time.
"We are not going to invite new keepers into the Super Eagles squad ahead of the 2019 Nations Cup qualifier against South and the World Cup qualifiers. The reason is that we do not want to create any distraction in the team.
"We are considering bringing in young keepers to take over from the ones in camp in the nearest future. But it is going to be a gradual thing. On the recall of Vincent Enyeama to the Super Eagles, I cannot say anything on that," he stated.
Source: http://allafrica.com/stories/201704250911.html Rohr and his crew are very predictable. It is only people who chose not to understand him that cannot predict him. I once said here that I can list at least 9 out of the 11 players that will start against SA. Daniel Akpeyi as shaky as people here say he is has severally proven he is a at least a descent back up goalie. Keeping goal against Egypt, Algeria and Senegal. How bigger can it come for him? The goal keeping position for our next 3 games is not for rookies. In other news, TheSuperNerd you are impressing me more and more these days with your analysis. The young has grown. We will soon induct u into the Elders hall of fame. Haha haha. |

Rohr rejects Congo friendly for Eagles, approves Burkina Faso
The Super Eagles Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr has rejected request by the Republic of Congo Football Federation to play the Eagles in their France camp, which is expected to open on May 23 in Corsica.
Coach Gernot Rohr has told the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that the Super Eagles future friendly matches ahead of the AFCON 2019 and World Cup 2018 qualifying matches must be with teams that are ahead of the Eagles in FIFA rankings.
Rohr, who rejected the Congo Brazzaville request, has however approved another friendly with Burkina Faso who is five places ahead of Nigeria in the monthly FIFA rankings.
Burkina Faso is ranked 35 by FIFA, as against Nigeria who are ranked 40th, while Congo Brazzaville are ranked 84th.
Nigeria will use the proposed friendly game against Burkina Faso to prepare for their upcoming AFCON 2019 qualifiers against South Africa on the 10th of June in Uyo.
Source: http://www.thebreakingtimes.com/rohr-rejects-congo-friendly-for-eagles-approves-burkina-faso/ A good one. Now we can start selecting countries we play against. That is way forward to improve our FIFA ranking and also to boost the confidence in our team. U cannot rule out d importance of the FIFA rankings any more as both FIFA and CAF seedings are done from it. Why should I not continue to love this current coaching crew? |

cc: TheGoodJoe, TheSuperNerd, etc. Hahahaha. Save yourself all these emotions. Rohr knows the team better than everyone of us here. And if Aluko is not invited for our next game just take it easy. Where were you guys when syenite (my old moniker) was clamouring for Aluko during Oliseh. A lot has changed. This is a new set up. Talking about experience, I have repeatedly said I like my defenders and midfielders very experienced but my forwards, I like then young and adventurous(I do not tolerate academy players in the Super eagles though ). And that has not changed. |

I don't rate Rodgers. Celtic is not such a good judge. The competition in Scotland is poo. I would have taken him seriously if he broke records with Celtic at the Champions League.
Bournemouth is a fantastic team and the experience he will have playing such an attacking style in England against top teams will catapult him, if he does well. Don't mind TheGoodJoe. He is fond of twisting his points to suit his arguments. He calls Howe a small boy to Rodgers yet he does not respect the place of age in football. Later twisting it that it was from the technical point of view. Thanks for helping out with the Zidane example. TheGoodJoe, Zidane is a small boy to Rodgers too right? We are talking of Onyekuru working with the man behind the genius buy if Coutinho which caused about (I think £3M) and turned him into a prized asset. Rodgers Unlocked the hidden beast in Suarez and Suarez did things we might never see again. Sterling was also impressive under him.
Apart from us watching Onyekuru, there is no way Bournemouth is a better option than Celtics. He also gets to play the Champions League. What competition does he face at the Scottish league? Why didn't he shatter the Liverpool's records? |

TheGoodJoe: There is no way Eddie Howe of Bournemouth can get his boys to press better than Brendan Rodgers Celtics. A good example is the City game against Manchester City that ended 3-3. After the game, the City players were too exhausted to talk.
Watching a player does not make Bournemouth a better destination. We are talking of the best environment for Onyekuru to develop as a player. Not for us to watch him. Watching him is not development. You need to also consider the level of competitiveness of both leagues. Besides Glasgow Rangers no other team gives Celtic a run for their money. It would be a great exposure for the young lad to run at Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, and Man United defenses. Talking about pressing did you not see Bournemouth Vs Arsenal game that also ended 3-3? Eddie Howe's Bournemouth is about the team from the lower half of the league that presses most. |
