zoboizee: @Icon4s Simon is in the team for the Zambia match. He played today for Gent though they lost by a goal through a wonderful freekick. He was his old self. Quick, tricky & silky. Esiti & Rabiu also played. Infact club brugge parked the big bus until simon was substituted. He was the most dangerous threat for his team. Esiti looked solid too as a DM with good eye for splitting passes but not quick in pace. He moves like a slowbie(boss). Will prefer Ndidi to him. Ok. Noted. |

forgiveness: Is Okocha regarded as Frankfurt great?
Sometimes I don't understand how you know much about Football but still don't give full details of the facts available to you.
So, you don't know Rashidi Yekini is Victoria Setubal and 3SC Legend?
So, you don't know Segun Odegbami is 3SC legend. You never cease to amaze. Yekini is a Victoria Setubal and 3SC legend Segun Odegbami is an "IICC" legend Just also like Christian Chukwu is a Rangers legend. So what makes Okocha not a Frankfurt great? |

Mickael2: I have a few issues with your formation. Why oh why should we still be playing Nacho as a 10?! Some might disagree but he wasn't even among the top 5 players for Nigeria in that Tanzania game, why should we be playing him in a position he last played 2 years ago?! simple, if the coaches trust Ighalo more than him then he should be benched because right about now, Iwobi should have that 10 spot wrapped up, no need pushing him to the wings either. And you really want us to start Success? He can't start a game currently, he has been making sub appearances for almost 3 months so starting him is a bad bet, and with Moses confirming that he has a niggle, being a resident doctor, I know a little about Physiotherapy and I can assure you that he should not play that game in that pitch, that pitch is horrible and once he strikes his boot on the ground which is bound to happen in non-level playing field, then he will be out for six weeks, losing whatever momentum he has already generated at Chelsea. So Musa and Simon might just have to start and they can both be subbed in Firstly, who says the last time Iheanacho played "10" was 2years ago? Was the last WYC where he played "10" not last year? How is 2015 two years ago. Iheanacho played "10" in the Egypt clash also. I didnt watch the Mali and Luxembourg friendlies so I can't say what role he played in those games. Secondly, The coaches, jst as TheGoodJoe had mentioned, have chosen to adopt the 4-2-3-1 formation (which is an attacking variant of 4-5-1) so as to fully optimise the attacking talent in the team. Ighalo has always been favoured to start as the CF, so Iheanacho would have to man the "number 10" position. Or would you rather we keep him on the bench and make him a like-for-like substitute for Ighalo bc he must play only as a CF? Thirdly, the national team setup is different from club set-up.In a club if there is a defficiency in a particular position the club buys a player to fill that position. But in the national teams players are made to adjust to play roles they typically dnt play in their clubs. Eg in the last Euros David Alaba, a LB, was made to play as the number 10. Portugal lacked quality natural strikers so Ronaldo and Nani were drafted to form the strike partnership. Coming home Mikel plays a DMF at Chelsea but has played more as a CMF and AM for Nigeria. Shehu Abdulahi is a DMF at his club but is more useful to us a RB. Fourthly, Success should not start bc he has only come in as a sub in the last 4 EPL games? If it is based on that analogy then Mikel should not even be on the 23 man list. Let me help you out on possible reason why Success may not start. "The coach may not want to start a DEBUTANT YOUNG PLAYER FOR A GAME OF SUCH MAGNITUDE. This ideology i also share. Lastly, Simon is not on the 23 man list, Moses' availability is in doubt right now.Ighalo is out. This implies Iheanacho is likely to play CF and Iwobi plays "10". With this our available wings options are now Musa and Success. If Moses does not make it Success is likely to start. |

TheGoodJoe: @Sir Icon4s,
You were right.
Coach Salisu Yusuf revealed that both he and head coach Gernot Rohr have adopted a 4-2-3-1 formation for the Eagles because that is what suits the team with the talent at their disposal now.
That means Iheanacho played ten in the Tanzania game. Respect to you man. Not every one here has the boldeness to openly concede to an argument. You are a great guy. At least we are inching closer to knowin Rohr's stlye of play. Iheanacho is really a great asset to the Super Eagles. With him in the team, you dnt necessarily need to make a substitution to change formation. He can play as a number10, Supporting striker or as a lone striker. Success has proven to be a deadly weapon from the Right of the attack. Moses has been having a good run of play of late. Iwobi has been fantastic from the wings for Arsenal but has proven super efficient from the middle. If we adopt the 4-2-3-1 against Zambia i would like the formation to look like this: ..........Iheanacho Success....Iwobi....Moses. If this team does not perform with this attack then we need to go beg "that mama we don put Super Eagles inside bottle". Alternatively, we can make Success a direct replacement for Ighalo and the set up would look like: ..........Success Iwobi...Iheanacho...Moses. This formation would effectively utilize the potency of Iheanacho in edge of box shorts and killer final passes. However, Success would be a debutant for that match. It is not likely he would be made to shoulder the responsibility of the lone striker for a game of this magnitude. The earlier formation I proposed looks more likely. |

Men..the pages have moved so very fast in the last 48hrs.
Thanks guys for all the birthday wishes.
So many arguments flying.
But let me dwell on the Mikel's case. I know a lot of u guys expected so much from Mikel. More so that he was 2nd best player just behind Messi at the WYC. U should even ask urself "where is Taye Taiwo that came third".
You feel Mikel should probably be 1 step behind the likes of Messi, Ronaldo or Neymer right? But football is not like that.
I can categorically say it here that only 2 Nigerian players are regarded greater than Mikel in terms of status, recongnition, contribution to club and national teams and club and national team achievements. They are Nwankwo Kanu and JJ Okocha.
Mikel to me is the 3 greatest. Vincent Enyeama and Rashidi Yekini come next in that order.Peter Rufai follows. |

safarigirl: Iwobi wouldn't make City's first 11 either. That is also a fact.
So before we all jump on the Iwobi is better than Kelechi bandwagon, let us remember who they have to bench.
Iwobi is benching Ox, Kelechi will have to bench Aguero, hardly the same class of players,.
Why are we even having this argument? Pitting brothers against each other...mtchew, please let's leave Iwobi and focus on the Kelechi vs Rashford arguments. Who's that person that said Iwobi will win CAF APOTY before Kelechi? Na you start this rubbish argument. The thing is the two clubs don't play same way. Iwobi is a product of Arsenger's philosophy of play. Iwobi may not easily fit into Pep's city stlye. Just like Alexis, Carzola and Ramsey will find it difficult playing under Mourinho due to the way they freely express their playing skills. |
