Believe me, even if Nigeria where the ones hosting the Olympics games these Clubs would not have done otherwise.

I sense the NFF did not d o their home work properly for the release of some of our players for the tournament.

The NFF most of the time see successes of most of our national teams as that of the Coaches.

The NFF seems to be a house divided against itself.
Yeah u have a point here.

But branding plays a vital role here.

In football Brazil is a bigger brand than Nigeria coupled with d fact that they are d host, jst like TheGoodJoe put it. Clubs would tend more to respect the call of Brazil to release players.

Another pt is that a player featuring for Brazil in a major tourney would add value to dat player in d transfer market. Brazil is a team everybody would want to watch and so clubs would be willing to advertise their players in d colours of Brazil.

The Nigerian Jessey no get value again na, more especially with that white band wey dem put on the green jerssey angry

I am only pointing out that he was not all the Hype. I hope he works very hard and achieve a lot in his career.
That is one trade mark of the English press. They hype English groomed players alot.

If Iheanacho had been a son of the soil in England by now they would have likened him to another Maradona. grin

Me, I personally dnt rate English players that highly. They only have good development structure. The individual talent is hardly there.

Look at all them Delle Alli & Ross Barkly how dey flopped at d Euros.
See also how Nathan Oduwa of Tottenham Hotspurs performed below expectation at d U23 camp.

When Jodon "Aib" chosed to play for England i personally cared less. We have more talented home raised teenagers rising up d laders.

I join u in wishing him the best in life.

Don't mind Funsho, he is a great talent but very naughty.
Bamgboye was d only foreign based player in that squad.

He contributed so much to the attack with his aggressive offensive play.

His major down side is his lack of discipline.

I saw him in d list of invited players earlier on bt got fillers dat he is out of shape and lost form. This reminds me of what happened to Kabiru Akinsola aka omo Alhaja of the 2007 Golden Eaglets.

If the coach does not see quality, then he would not call in anyone. However he must check himself. What we need from him is him constantly looking home and abroad for players to make the team stronger.

The key word is Stronger.

So even if he invites Ovie or Otigba, they will not be available for the coach to work with until they arrive in camp.

During that time, Coach Le Guen can continue his scouting mission for local talents who will make the team stronger.

He works with them, pencils those he feels will help the team. When the team arrives, he does the final screening and selects the best candidates. (Not forgetting to cap Ovie Ejaria.)
That is the normal thing. Coaches will always open camping with local players. Then when d foreign based lads report to camp the local boys are pruned down.

What i dnt want to hear is "we should rely more on the local players". Ordinary CHAN dey could nt qualify from group.

TheGoodJoe:

While the foreign players are with their clubs, it is right for Coach Paul Le Guen to stay in Nigeria and monitor local talents.

That does not stop him from keeping track of our foreign talents. It is also better than a coach who will stay in Europe, collecting monthly pay and only come in during qualifiers and tournament.

I agree with Paul Le Guen here. When the matches are coming, he can invite the talents he spotted and work with them until the foreign talents are available.
I perfectly understand the pt from which u are defending Le Guen.Bt what i am saying is he doesn't have d luxury of time and games Keshi and Oliseh had to experiment on local players.

Nothing wrong in digging out local gems bt he must focus more of his energy on securing d foreign based talents. Like tbaba1234 mentioned Success, Odubanjo and Akpom.Including those foreign grown talents that u TheGoodJoe have always clamoured for us to cap. These are players i personally believe can offer more to Nigeria both on d short and long term.

To b factual, at d senior level there is not much quality in our league. I can only recommend those that are U20.

TheGoodJoe:

I get your point and I think it the same with what the coach wants to do.

He will have his local talents in camp who will work with him regularly. So they can understand his philosophy and tactics. He already knows about most of our foreign pros. So I do not see the selection a challenge.

What I see happening is using breakthrough home based boys to make the team stronger.

Just like the addition of MBA and Oboabona made us stronger.

Paul Le Guen wants to know Nigerian football inside out. That is why he is talking of living here and watching most of our home league games live in the stadia.

He looks a serious chap and it seems he already has his game plan ready.

I wish we could see his skype interview with the NFF.
Yeah.

Sunday Mba, Ejike Uzoenyi and Godfrey Obaobona comes to mind.

Now, bt d difference between then and now is Stephen Keshi started his build up with weak oppositions. Keshi's first game was against Rwanda in Kigali where he drew 0-0 & was highly critisized for d teams poor play. He came back & won d return leg.

His next game was against Liberia in Monrovia he again drew & won the return leg. With all those matches against relatively weaker oppositions he was building the team. In between he also had CHAN qualifiers from where he really tested the home boys before 2013 AFCON.

The difference now is we dnt have dat luxury of easy games. After playing against Zambia in Lusaka we are hosting Algeria. If Le Guen adopts that Keshi's approach we would have lost our first 2 games before we identify the local talents.

The Tanzania game is key to our preparations. We need to know d squad that will visit Lusaka from dat game.

No game to waste.

TheGoodJoe:

Well, from reports I heard, Paul Le Guen wants to run a regular scouting program of local talents to push into the National team. He plans to stay in Nigeria to become familiar and acquainted with the local talents.

I support him on that. Remember due to Club commitments, it is difficult for coaches to become acquainted with players. As long as in major tournaments and competitions we have the best whether local or foreign, I think it is the right move.

As for Coach Siasia, I believe we landed in this problem of a weak squad because of a bias screening process. There is no way a coach can not build a stronger defense with thorough scouting.
There is no problem with this approach. That is the normal thing every new coach does.

Bt what Barr Green is saying is he should rely more on the local players.

We have done this several times in recent years and at d end of d day we fall back on foreign pros after d predominantly local team starts on a low.

This has caused us vital pts in qualifying series. Eg look at d crop of players Oliseh started with dat drew away in Tanzania. That draw pt us behind Egypt before d epic clashes.

It is nt dat in our first game against Zambia we would field a predominantly home based team and lose. From their we will start d chasing game.

We need to hit d ground speeding. I thought dey said d major pt Paul Le Guen scored was dat he has been following Nigerian players in Europe.

He can as usual start camping with local players bt he should then invite a rich list of foreign based players. And then select d best from there.

What i dnt want to see is because we in a rebuilding process he'll now field one "Gambo Mohammed" that players for Kano pillars as our top striker.

We know d emerging talents of Nigerian football and Paul Le Guem should also know as they claim.

The qualifiers fall under d FIFA window so there is no way d clubs won't release d foreign players.

Nigeria is playing Tanzania in September that match to me should b a dress rehersal for d Zambia game. We need to field our might against Tanzania so as to assess d weakness in d team.

We need to hit Lusaka running.

If we start rebuilding with local players by the time the team starts gelling we would have crashed out of d qualifiers.

No time to waste as every game would b key

Focus More On Domestic Players Than Foreign Pros, Bar. Green Tells Siasia
Augustine Akhilomen

Nigeria Football Federation technical committee, Barrister Christopher Green says Dream Team coach, Samson Siasia should focus more on the players in his disposal rather than lamenting over the none release of the invited foreign players from their respective clubs in Europe ahead for the Rio Olympic Games Men's Football event.

The team's poor performances in recent friendly matches played so far has made Siasia developed some element of fear with just 23 days to the commencement of the showpiece in Brazil couple with the fact that he may not have a full complement of some of the invited foreign pros players.

Green insisted that the Football Federation had told him to invite players who he was sure would be released by their clubs in Europe.

"I don't think Samson Siasia should be complaining because it was clear when we asked him to select players who he thinks will be available for the Games. Besides, we told him to use players in the domestic league for now but must penciled down players in the foreign legion that he's sure their clubs will release them for the Rio Olympic Games," Green stated.

"Again the NFF are not relaxing too much because we are also working round the clock to ensure that clubs release some of these players for the games in Brazil. I am happy to inform you that we have started to get green light on the availability of the foreign pros and I am confident they will join the team before the games."

Meaning small club bought Celestine Babayaro at that time. grin While on the other hand, The once Champions of UEFA Football bought Taye Taiwo in 2005.

It was even right after Olympics Marseille reached the finals of UEFA Cup final in 2004 for the second time(1999).

As soon as Taye Taiwo got there in 2004 to fill the place of Bixente Lizarazu, he helped them to win Ligue 1: 2009–10, Coupe de la Ligue: 2010, 2011,Trophée des Champions: 2010 and UEFA Intertoto Cup: 2005 with the likes of Frank Ribery, Samir Nasri, Mamadou Niang, Hatem Ben Arfa, Fenando Morientes, Gabriel Heinze(Taiwo's rival), Mathieu Valbuena, Lucho Gonzalez, Andrew Ayew, André-Pierre Christian Gignac etc

He was even handed the captain's handband sometimes. grin

He was the man of the match in a cup final match.

Does that looks like a small club? grin

Subs: Hogh, Poyet, Morris, Cudicini, Zola.

Arsenal: Seaman, Dixon, Keown, Adams, Silvinho, Parlour, Ljungberg, Petit, Overmars, Kanu, Suker.
