jieta: icon, did u type dis? Yes i did. My point is with d quality of Nigerian players that fall within this age bracket I am expecting this set to blow the world away, possibly winning the WYC for d first time for Nigeria. This current crop of players sruggled to beat Burundi. scoring a late goal in Bujumbura and in d second leg scoring two late goals before Burundi cancelled 1. In this Sudan game as at 80th min they were a goal down and u expect one nt to worry? Thank God there usual late goals came today bt u can't be lucky all the time. I have tipped this set to do better than the class of 2015 bt not entirely with this crop of players. If Amuneke relies solely on his U17 boys they'll likely nt do better than the 2015 boys. Has it always crossed ur mind that after winning d U17 two yrs later we hardly perform well at d U20? Nigeria currently boasts of quality 18-19yrs olds who are very elligible to b in this team bt Amuneke is shoting them out. Well, let me jst relax and believe these are still early days. However, for the AYC proper i expect him to extend invitations to players like: Chidera Ezeh Taiwo Awoniyi Sadiq Umar Nura Abdulahi Ifeanyi Mathew Sincere Seth Musa Yahaya Zaharadeen Bello Azubuike Okechukwu Chidozie Awaziem I need nt tell u what quality and competition the above listed players can bring into d team. Let us invite them for d AYC and lets c how many would b released by their respective clubs. However, if we make it to d WYC i see no reason y we cannot have most if nt all of them cos the tourney falls under d FIFA calender so clubs are obliged to release players. This would b a great team in the making. I believe. |

Amuneke should open this team to other players dat were nt part of d last U17. This was part of what affected our last U20 & Amuneke is already towing dat path. forgiveness: Do you mean Awoniyi was their top scorer prior to the CAF U17 tournament?
Bro, don't give false information.
Isaac Success and Ibrahim Alhassan were the top joint goal scorers with 5 goals apiece. Isaac Success was already a full member of that same foundation.
Ibrahim Alhassan was the lad benching Kelechi Iheanacho in that team. It was when he left Iheanacho started shining. Although, Kelechi Iheanacho was the top goal scorer in the friendlies, he was still not a starter in that team when Ibrahim Alhassan was there.
It was wen Alhassan left he became a starter in important games.
Such is life. But he came in and gave Nigerians a cause to smile and forgot about Isaac Success.
Awoniyi proved himself for the World to see. He scored 4 goals and assisted 5 times.
Statistics don't lie. Hahahaha bros no go there o.U no sabi d foundation of that team reach me o. Isaac Success was one of the late arrivals in that team. He was from BJ Foundation, an academy based in Benin. Elderson Uwa Echiejile was also a product of that team. Isaac Success was never part of the team from the U15. He joined later after d U17 had already been constituted. He personally made himself available(jst like Osimhen) for team selection. That I think was prio to the double header friendly against Rwanda which was played in Calabar and Kigali. This was still even before the commencement of the qualifiers for CAN U17. Awoniyi was d team's top 9 before Success came. When I visited the team's camp early 2012 in the company of the a Benin based radio correspondent, Isaac Success was nt yet a member of the team. I personally told Awoniyi that he was the Yekini of that team.Success was nt there then! As for Ibrahim Alhassan aka Muazam, he alongside Wilfred Ndidi and 3 others failed d MRI jst the week of commencement of the CAF U17. so it was Benard Bulbwa that was benching Iheanacho at the 2013 CAF U17 and not Muazam. |

Napoleon55: Prior to the commencement of that tournament, there were so much talk about Mikel, everyone was eager to watch him and what he could do n he did deliver, his best performance was against Argentina, the final match, what happened in that match is 3 things,1-the referee was against us,2-we didn't play with in and out striker,a top 9 like Martins would have helped us but he was not invited by siasia, though Martins thought he was too big to play in that tournament,he was demanding to be made the captain or something like that. And 3-the magic of Lionel Messi, the nigerian team didn't know he was that too good otherwise they would have been more extra careful against him. But with Messi or no Messi,if had gone with a better striker than Ogbuke,we would have won even with the referee bias officiating. Ogbuke is more of winger and support striker than a top 9 Bro Napoleon, i was referring to 2005 WYC and not 2008 Olympics. |

As I said, that is all you know about 2005 tournament. Yet you want to argue 2005 WYC with those of us who watched Silva, Llorente and Fabregas lie and role on the pitch after Spain was eliminated.
You want to argue with us who watched Zuiverloon of Holland attempt multiple times to injure Mikel out of the Nigeria vs Netherland game. Mikel later walked to our medics and they slipped Ice cubes into his socks because of the hurting ankle.
You want to argue with us that watched in fright as the Moroccan side with one of the best strikers of the competition, Iajour were going to face us. Then we put up a good game and eliminated them. We cheered when Iajour got a red card and he spat on one of our players.
Or when we watched in eagerness the match between Spain and Argentina and Messi scoring one of the best goals of the competition, if not the best goal.
I watched 2005, it was amazing and we still see signs of their players, including those from Argentina like the Zabaletta, Silva and Aguero who all were part of the City revolution.
Taiwo was a good player in that competition. They were far better players. The awards do not tell the full story. That tourney to me was one of the best WYC ever stagged. Nigeria also presented one of our best Flying Eagles team. So unforntunate that a player called Lionell Messi was ever born. We would have won the FIFA U20 that year. The quality in those matches were jst too much. New Zealand 2015 could nt b compared with it. |

terzurum5: AF Nigeria 2016 Olympics - Men Football Belgium Mikel confirmed for Rio may force Belgian club to stop Ndidi
by Samm Audu
Thursday Jul 07, 2016. 15:24
Mikel Obi’s confirmation for the Rio Olympics may force Belgian club Genk to stop Wilfred Ndidi from next month’s summer games as they insist on guarantees from coach Samson Siasia their player will see first-team action in Brazil.
Ndidi, 19, is one of several foreign-based stars Siasia is banking on to shore up his team for the Olympics after several other players were stopped by their European clubs.
Siasia has already announced that Chelsea star Mikel has confirmed his participation for Rio, which means he is guaranteed first-team place and with Ndidi also now playing a defensive midfielder, his club do not wish to release him only for him to be warming the bench in Brazil when he could be earning his keep in Belgium.
“Genk want assurances Siasia will use their player, if not they do not see the rationale for him to be at Rio Olympics,” a source told AfricanFootball.com
But an official has reasoned that room could be created for Watford target Ndidi to revert to his old position in central defence particularly as Siasia is rebuilding that position following the long-term injury of Segun Oduduwa. africanfootball.com/news/633097/Mikel-confirmed-for-Rio-may-force-Belgian-club-to-stop-Ndidi Not good at all. TheGoodJoe:
Stop arguing pure facts. He is a striker and had the most chances to score among all the team mates. There are highlights of this to show how poor Awoniyi was. Awoniyi was not fantastic. A better striker would have done more. Game after game, Awoniyi fluffed and missed Chances. If it was under Westerhoff, that guy will not play another game in that tournament.
Yahaya would have recorded a higher assist figure if Awoniyi would just finish. One in one chances. Tap in chances he missed. You are here talking of him being better than one of the top promising talents in the game.
Just as I told you about Solanke, I will tell you the same about Awoniyi. To play upfront and get to the top, you need high conversion rate. Awoniyi's conversion rate from the U17 till now has been poor. He has to step up. Breathing facts fire does not change it. He was not awesome at the U17. If you like point assist. He is a point man with poor conversion rate.
Awo should hit the field and improve his conversion rate. I thought i was alone on Awoniyi's performances all along. If not for that unfortunate Isaac Success' injury who for know Awoniyi? Isaac Success would have made it up to atleast 7goals in that tourney considering he had already scored 2 goals by the first half of his 2nd game. I know a little bit if history of that team. Awoniyi was their top striker until Isaac Success gate crashed late into the camping and selection exercise. And this was after the team had played several series of friendly matches. It became Success all the way. Who knew Awoniyi at the CAF U17 tourney of 2013? |

You mean a player who came to replace Success and still went ahead to score 4 goals and 3 - 4 assist is lesser than Yahaya who started the tournament from start to finish but scored only 4 goals and 3 assist at the U17. Erh! Awoniyi outclassed him because he saved us in many games and single handedly won matches.
At the U20 tournament, Yahaya was outclassed by Awoniyi by miles. Scored two goals and 2 assist(thereabout) while Yahaya scored only 1 goal.
Now, see the statistics with your eyes. Who better? Yahaya is nt a striker. Awoniyi only missed d first game. Yahaya is by far a more skillful player. Thankfully they are both still elligible for d next U20. I wish Amuneke invites them both. Yes, he was very porous in that match and recently but talent na talent and you can't just loose it in a day.
How did he stall? He saw more games in a better league than Musa Yahaya last season.
So, how did he stall? Siasia just wan destroy that boy career by forcing him into the Olympic Football team.
The boy na small boy compare to his peers. He lacks confidence and he is too weak to face tough defenders but that doesn't remove an atom of talent from him.

TheGoodJoe:
As for me, a player who can not hack it in the training ground, can not hack it in match situation. Iheanacho in scrimmage matches in America pulled wonderful stats. In training games with the EDS pulled wonderful stats. In the training games with he main squad, we heard of Iheanacho scoring a lot of goals and doing funny celebrations.
Doing well for City and Nigeria was bound to happen because he was doing it.
There was no exciting report of Ighalo in training. Why start him ahead of an Obaje who was convincing and good. It does not add up. Ighalo not doing well in those qualifiers would have been averted if Coach Siasia stuck to those doing well in training.
There are no strikers in Portugal now that will do better than Nani and CR7. That is why they start. Not because of experience and number of games. No midfielder better than Renato Sanches. So he starts.
There is no way Deschamps will tell us that he has better players Greizmann and Pogba. That is why the should start. In training and on the pitch, these two will outperform any French player. That was why it was crazy leaving them on the bench.
The experience thing is just a theory to excuse mediocrity. Just as I pointed in Pellegrini leaving Bony and Demeichelis longer than necessary. In training, he would have seen they won't cut it. Leaving Adarabioyo, Iheanacho and Denayer out due to lack of experience gave mediocrity room to breathe in the squad.
If they are better they should do it in training. If they can not then, Coach Siasia will be giving mediocrity room.
That coach should still explain why he left Obaje out. The simple case of starting Ighalo instead of Obaje hu u claimed did better in trainning simply tells u it is nt jst all abt who does better in training. Coaches typically field players they trust can deliver the goods outside the training ground. |

Demeichelis had a massive wealth of experience last season but he was one of the culprits of our poor performances last season.
If Pellegrini was through to himself and form in training, Denayer and Adarabioyo should have been ahead of Demeichelis. Sticking to experience led us to a bad run. How many of Sadiq's league games have u watched? |

The training ground is nt enough to fully assess players abilities. Dnt b shocked if Sadiq does nt even make d final list. I cannot field a debutant player in the first game of a major tourney. The training ground is nt enough for me. I need to see u in a match situation. Based on his abilities he may make my squad bt i cannot put him at the arrow head of my tactics. As i said before i can introduce him as a sub as either a gamble to win/draw or if i have already secured a win. Then i can assess him and determine whether he can start d next game or from d bench. |

TheGoodJoe: What use is their experience if they can not outclass an inexperienced attacker in training. I agree Sadiq Umar is inexperienced and unexposed. I agree he has years ahead of him. If he can outclass and outperform the others in training, they have no business starting ahead of him. Now it has become "if". Remember our argument spans from ur starting line up u placed Sadiq at CF. I admit u said in d absence of Ighalo. Starting him in d absence of ighalo means u believe he is better than Ajayi and Imoh. Bt i can tell u i would rather field the more tested Ajayi or Imoh ahead of Sadiq. Besides, what do u mean by "outclassing in training". U believe too much in training conditions. Bros, training conditions are very different from match conditions. An experienced coach would easily identify with that statement. Coaches select players hu they have confidence and trust in. Trust is key here. U cannot field a striker u are nt sure can deliver the goods. Trust me, 2 or 3 flashes of brilliance during training cannot b enough. I need to see u in a typical match situation, even if it is a friendly, before i can trust u can fit into my game tactics. If there are no such opportunities for friendlies i can at best introduce the player as a sub after haven studied the balance of play and trust he can flow with my laid down tactics. |

Yobo was at d twilight of his career so it was very imperative to raise a replacement. And as I said Omeruo was then an experienced campaigner as far as d national(youth) teams were concerned. Same can b said for Isaac Success who we all here agree he is worth even a Super Eagles call up as we have seen him play several competitions in our colours. Sadiq has nt even been featured in any friendly in our colours and u will feel comfortable giving him d starting top striker shirt in our first game in Rio? TheGoodJoe: Omeruo became a regular in a major tournament. Michael Owen became a regular by the second round in France '98. Played along side Shearer against Argentina.
In cases like Owen and Shearer, at that time, Owen could never outshine Shearer.
If Owen could outshine Shearer repeatedly, then Owen deserves to lead the line.
In the case of Ighalo and Sadiq. If Sadiq repeatedly outclasses Ighalo in training, he will be a better option to start the game. Omeruo's first game was nt in a major tourney. Itwas in a friendly against Cape verde. That aside, Omeruo is a product of the Nigerian Youth system, having represented us at d U17 & U20. Coaches find it more easy to integrate Players like that into d senior team. Having played for d U17 &U20 i would say he was tested at youth level of which he was outstanding. Sadiq Umar has never played for any of our teams b it friendly or anything. He is nt a tested player and so cannot spare head our attack in our first game in Rio |

Pele was Seventeen when he rattled the World.
I remember Omeruo for Yobo. With little professional experience becoming one of the best players of the AFCON even though he was a teenager.
It happens over and over again.
As for me, if a player can not hack it in training, he is not the best to start the game. Pele and Owen's cases are exceptional. It took Owen some time before he could even step into d shoes of the more experienced Allan Shearer. Omeruo was nt introduced into d team from a major tourney. |

In training, the competing players get many chances to prove themselves. It is not a one chance thing.

If Sadiq Umar Outclasses Odion Ighalo in training, then he must start. Except if Ighalo is injured there is no way Sadiq can merit starting ahead of him even if Ighalo is nt in d best of form. I can agree to starting Iheanacho or Success ahead of Ighalo bt nt Sadiq. |
