Samueltemi337: Exclusive – Super Eagles Lineup Against Benin Republic, Osimhen, Kalu, Chukwueze Lead Attack The coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has revealed the starting lineup for the Super Eagles of Nigeria for their game against Benin Republic later today in the race to be at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. Rohr has decided to stick with almost same set of players he used to prosecute the last two friendly games against Ukraine and Brazil respectively. Both games ended in a draw with the Eagles throwing a two goal lead to draw 2-2 against Ukraine and also losing their lead in the 1-1 draw against Brazil. Despite the results, Rohr saw enough in the game and has decided to stick with the players who prosecuted both games but he made some changes particularly in his defence where Ola Aina comes in at right back in place of Chidozie Awaziem who played the role against Brazil. In goal as widely expected Daniel Akpeyi starts in the absence of Francis Uzoho with the duo of Maduka Okoye and Ikechukwu Ezenwa as back up goalkeepers. The central defence partnership of Semi Ajayi and William Troost-Ekong was maintained by the coach despite the return of Kenneth Omeruo. Jamilu Collins retains his spot as left full back while the midfield is the same as the one that prosecuted the last game against Brazil meaning the trio of Wilfred Ndidi, Joe Aribo and Alex Iwobi will play in the middle. Ndidi will play as the defensive midfielder while Aribo will operate as the central midfielder with Iwobi positioned behind the main striker which is Victor Osimhen. Osimhen is flanked by Samuel Chukwueze and Samuel Kalu. Chukwueze will play from the right while Kalu will operate fromthe left like he did to devastating effect against Ukraine. Rohr maintained the trio in attack despite the return of captain of the team Ahmed Musa. Lineup Daniel Akpeyi Ola Aina Jamilu Collins William Troost-Ekong Semi Ajayi Wilfred Ndidi Joe Aribo Alex Iwobi Samuel Chukwueze Samuel Kalu Victor Osimhen Cc: Safarigirl |

Kbs468: What actually did it for OKOYE is the dart of good Goalkeepers over the years for NIGERIA since the retirement of Ike Shorunmu and the subsequent phasing out of ENYAMA VINCENT.
So, With him promising, there was the need to cap him immediately as the SE is the only level that can cage him for NIGERIA for life going by the fact that both Akpeyi and Ezenwa are already over 30 while being average always Good that he has been capped. We can now ship him to the Olympics if we qualify. He still needs experience. |

MetalJigsaw: AHMED MUSA, JOE ARIBO AND OTHER SUPER EAGLES PLAYERS GERNOT ROHR SHOULD NOT START AGAINST BENIN opera.com
The Super Eagles will be taking on the Squirrels of Benin later today in their bid to make it to Cameroon 2021. The first time they will be playing a competitive match since they finished third at the African Cup of Nations earlier this year.
In all fairness, Gernot Rohr calls the shots. He has the prerogative of picking his team, and he sinks and swims with the outcome. Regardless, this write-up takes a look at the players in the squad and gives an opinion on what the team selection should be like, highlighting some players that are better off starting on the bench and reasons why.
AHMED MUSA.
The captain of the team has not played for the team since after AFCON 2019. The team, without him have played two friendlies in that time and produced good performances in draws against Ukraine and Brazil. It should also be noted that Musa was not so impressive at the AFCON, where he failed to score a goal. The likes of Samuel Kalu, Moses Simon, Dennis Bonaventure and Samuel Chukwueze have been impressive on the wings and also in good forms in their clubs, there is no point altering the apple cart and starting Musa ahead of these guys. Musa can always be a good option off the bench with his pace and experience.
DANIEL AKPEYI.
Another player returning to the team for the first time since the AFCON. Akpeyi was first choice at the AFCON but was dropped from the team for the friendlies against Ukraine and Brazil. There is a feeling he is only making a return to the team because Francis Uzoho is out injured. At the AFCON, he was not particularly impressive. He was not commanding and did not inspire confidence. He has become synonymous with nervy displays in the Super Eagles. He has been in impressive form with his South African club – Kaizer Chiefs but he has not been convincing enough in the Super Eagles. We should also not forget, the last time the Super Eagles lost a AFCON qualifying game at home, against South Africa, Akpeyi was in goal. Enough said!
JOE ARIBO
The Glasgow Rangers midfielder has played well in the two matches he has played for the Super Eagles. He has scored two goals in his two matches for the team and showed very impressive performances. The match against Benin is his chance for his first competitive game. Throwing him into the starting line-up in a competitive home game in front of a massive home fans in a terrain he is not very familiar with, might be too much for his young shoulders. The fear is, he gets overwhelmed by the occasion and may find it hard to recover from it. Rohr should thread with caution. Also considering that he just arrived in camp on Tuesday, a day to the match, after featuring for Rangers in the Scottish league on Sunday. He might just be better off starting on the bench.
PAUL ONUACHU
Paul was second choice striker behind Odion Ighalo at the AFCON. He started the first game against Burundi when Ighalo was not available to start. Since then, Victor Osimhen has grown in leaps and bounds. He starred in the Super Eagles friendlies against Ukraine and Brazil and he gave a good account of himself. He has also scored 8 goals in the French league this season for Lille. Based on form, Onuachu should not be starting ahead of Osimhen.
Onuachu also looks like he will be a better option if he starts on the bench, his height and aerial ability could be a good plan B option. Rohr should aslo consider that Onuachu has hardly had an impressive game for the Eagles since he scored against Egypt in a friendly last year.
After all said, Gernot Rohr calls the shots and earns the millions for making the calls. It is expected that the Eagles should start their 2019 AFCON qualifying series on a good note, as long as they win and perform well, who starts or does not start may not matter after all.
http://news-af.feednews.com/news/detail/e5063767a12d3155bfcfea420275fe5a?client=news While i am indefrent about Akpeyi's case, for Aribo I totally disagree. He was not overwhelmed by the crowd in Dnipro, Ukraine and and the crowd in Singapore for the Brazil friendly is it the fans in Uyo stadium that i am sure the stands will be half empty? Joe Aribo is having a good run of games for the national team. Why bench him? It is the same journalist that will still come up tomorrow to say "why didn't he start Aribo"? Some of these journalists no sabi ball at all. |

Kbs468: It might seem to be a blow to their future though but not necessarily True because Our physicality was the thing that overpowered them yesterday
While also noting that the Head-to-head stuff is always a difficult circumstance to overturn easily, hence their slump.
The penultimate statement above is why everyone is chorusing #EMERYOUT from my darling ARSENAL since he is finding it difficult to see off easily the EPL Teams his predecessor-ARSENE WENGER usually put away comfortably.
All in all, Those guys can still reshape the future of ZAMBIAN football perfectly. Yes na. Every thing is possible. They have really invested so much energy in ensuring they make it to the Olympics. For them to send Enoch Mwepu, Patson Daka and Fashion Sakala to play the U23 tournament rather than the AFCON qualifiers, it tells u where their preference lies. |

TheSuperNerd: Yeah. But golden generation get levels. The Zambians can still get it right with those guys maybe not in terms of winning a trophy but in terms of breaking into Africa's Top 8 in Major Competitions like the Afcon.
Right now, they should try get to Cameroun 2021. From there, we shall see.
Cameroon 2021 qualifiers that they have sacrificed because of the Olympics qualifiers. I hope they will not lose both tickets in the process. |

TheSuperNerd: Well, you really cannot blame them. F.Sakala, E.Mwepu and Patson Daka.... Especially that Patson Daka... are their brightest young stars and play in Europe. It is a huge blow but they should take solace in the fact that they lost to the Kings of Age grade Football in Africa, Nigeria. Nigeria's pool of exciting young talents is so deep and wide that we could afford to put out this current team in Egypt knowing fully well the wealth of our U-23 top talents scattered all over the globe.
Zambia cannot boast the depth and wealth of talents we have. They play exciting football, yes... But what I think they need to develop is that Resilience and Steel to grind out results even when at your worst. This is a trait Nigerian teams boast in general. It is a DNA thing.
Also, Zambia needs better coaching. To be frank, I rate the Zambian team as far more Formidable than Chriskel's Kouame and company from Ivory Coast. Zambia has Invested so much in this crop of players. They are like an emerging golden generation. They believe so much in the team. But like I said earlier yesterday, things don't always work out like that. |

TheSuperNerd: I said something yesterday. Nigeria is parading an U-23 team boasting players that do not even make the Top 20 U-23 talents of the Nation home and abroad.
Meanwhile Zambia unleashed their best 3 U-23 talents upon us yet they were slaughtered.
Na U-23 Team C Dem play biko. No be Team B. And come to think that they have really had so much hopes on that their team to take Zambian football to the next level. It is a serious blow to the future of Zambian football. |

Back then in junior secondary we read a passage titled "The Match That Broke The Myth" and it was about Zambia and Nigeria in the 80s or so. I don't think it was a fiction They eliminated us from the 1986 AFCON qualifiers. That was the last time they ever won against any Nigerian team |
