I think he means the current U23 teams and not really every African player below 23 and if you look at it from that angle he may not be that wrong. I mean Nwakali couldn't even cut it at the Portuguese Segunda and yet he is starting games for our U23 which means he is better than all we have on the bench and that is saying something about how poor the team really is.

But what you are saying is different. I mean Chukwueze is U23 and will definitely cut it there, but he isn't in the present U23 team, note the difference.
Michael, welcome back! Good to have you here again.

Komekn was not just referring to this current crop. He made a generalized statement.

Komekn, as usual, you are just trying so hard to discredit our youths system.

The Olympics Team remains a hunting ground for future Senior national team players.

If Taiwo Awoniyi should Pose a very good performance in the current tournament, he will definitely get a look in by Rohr, this is regardless of his club performances. Players like Etebo, Azubuike, Shehu Abdulahi, and Aminu Umar got their first SE invite due to their performances with the U23s.

I am not saying this is the ONLY means but outstanding players from the U23s typically get invites to the Senior national teams. Why do you think the NFF opted for a SE assistant coach for the U23s? It's because the U23 side is more like a feeder team to the SE

You and this your english league one hyping

Can you listen to your self saying most u23 players in africa cant cut it in an epl academy

If i combine players that are under the age of 23 from naija ivory coast and co you go begin find excuse
From the start I knew that was the direction he will still shift his argument.

Any Nigerian youth team or players is always a threat to his English academy players. grin

We should not have an U23 made up of Nigerian players, we should be waiting for English academy boys grin

The Olympics football event has lost its glamour as most teams can't invite their best players within the age limit anymore. The release of players is no longer mandated by FIFA so the quality has gone down.
True but it still a testing ground for our Potential SE players.

I would say historical past.

In contemporary times the national youth teams have given our youth players access and or introduction to European football.

However, it is thier consistent continous top class outstanding performances in thier clubs and leagues that have maintained thier positions in the main in the national teams.

Unfortunately the larger majority of our youth players have never matched thier dominance at youth level, with commensurate progression in thier professional football careers.

KC, ONAZI, I. SUCCESS, have lost thier positions and very rightly so, as their performances at club level have been on a downward spiral.

So my observation still stands and has more credence. Your performance at club and league level justifies and ensures your position and or continous invitation to national football teams.
Oga nobody is disputing anything about club performances.

The Olympics teams aka Dream Team has continued to be a breeding ground for our future SE players.

You talk about the historical past, not true because a player like Ekong broke into the SE starting 11 because of his performance at the last Olympics. Others like Etebo and Shehu were also products of that same Olympics. So Oga we will continue to use the Olympics as the testing ground for our future Eagles.

Ow you think this policy will not favour your Borough boys grin No worries once we qualify for the Olympics we will invite the 'deserving ones' amongst them to boost the team grin

I wonder ooo. Certainly the latter statement is the case and I am happy that the Players proved to them wrong at the end of the day.

One wouldn't crucify them for their postures though because such attitude of theirs is usually borne out of their passionate support and desire for the team to succeed actually.

Giving by the fact that we were trailing the opposition thus, building up the tension forcing out the critical commentaries we have read so far.

And I want to believe that the story would have changed after K. Nwankali had put NIGERIA in front from that wonderful Free kick as well as after AWONIYI got the last minute extention to the scoreline that it end in a superb 3:1 win over the Zambians Since I haven't read to the latter pages.

By the way,

Congratulations NIGERIA and to every soccer loving individuals out there for the believe, trust and confidence reposed on the Olympic Eagles to bounce back from the Lost against the Ivorians.

Looking forward to another 3 maximum points against SOUTH AFRICA come FRIDAY same time of 7:00 pm Nigerian Time that should ensure our qualification to the Semis. Although the other match between ZAMBIA and COTED'IVOIRE shall hold simultaneously at the time too.

Enjoy yourselves ladies and gentlemen while I rap up with reading the remainder of the post on the thread already pilled up waiting for my digestion since I always prefer staying glued to the TV until the end of football matches before giving my overall appraisal rather than wailing during the games for things could turn around easily in football making one eats His or Her word at the end.

I disagree completely.

U23 is still youth football.

U23 can not replace club and league football, players spend night and day training in development tactical and otherwise almost the entire year with thier clubs.

You cannot make assessment based on a week or two with national team coaches with the U23.

European countries select players to thier U21 squads who have been outstanding in league and clubs.

Most of these players have had 2/3 seasons of continous first team football. That's the basis for thier selection.

Your club and league form get you selected to the national team. Anything else is an aberration of objective standards for player assessment and selection.
Oga all this your grammar on top wetin I talk.
So many Super Eagles players, past and present have been selected from the Olympics. That underlines the importance of that age grade competition.

I refer to my personal proposition statement for quality.

"Its better to be a Lion in a lower league and club than an anonymous mouse in a top club and league".

Nonetheless, the quality of the league and club.still matters and has an impact on players true quality, but everything in context.

Did anybody believe that Rangers would beat Porto or Celtic beat Lazio. But the quality of players showed the gulf is not reflective of league.

In addition the nature of some leagues means that players from those league will cope better in certain situations. For instance a player who has played in championship will not be faxewf by the physicality of AFCON.

However, some players who have been pampered with pretty technical football may indeed struggle.

I remember when Yobo left Fenerbache to play at Norwich. He admitted the slow pace and limited quality of the Turkish league had made his..loose his sharpness.
Chairman everything is not EPL and Championship grin

The U23 are playing and we could have potential young player of the year nominees from there. You dey Committee. Please follow the game wink

I think some will love to see this team lose today so that their criticisms of K.Nwakali and Azubuike will be justified.
For some, so that they can take their "Crucify Imama" campaigns further. I wonder... Can't people just look beyond these debates and just stand with the team in that very moment they are in action??

It seems winning arguments is more important to some here than the team winning.
Just so they will come here and start shouting "I said it!!" grin grin grin
