ChrisKels: John Obuh had a more balanced team devoid of quota system, nepotism and tribalism. He even made Azeez his captain and had Omerou as the only starting player from his region. Bulk of his team were yorubas - Azeez, Ajagun, Kayode, Ogungbe etc John Obuh is a coach that has not been given a kind of accolades he deserves. A good percentage of the players in the SE team from 2013 to recent played under him either at U17 in 2009, U20 in 2011 or U20 again in 2013. Even in the current team players like Semi Ajayi, Jamilu Collins, Kenneth Omeruo, Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, Ahmed Musa and Ramon Azeez all played under him. He may not be too sound tactically but one thing I know is he is good at talents discovery. I don't mind he handling our next U20 team. |

darkelf: Genetics certainly has a role to play. And yes, Nigeriens and Malians tend to be naturally taller.
But what I am saying is that our players would have at least more bulk if they ate better Well, you have a point there. But watch how these kids will metamorphose in the next 2-3 years and folks here will easily erase these memories and call them 30yrs olds. Some things one reads here sometimes. Some people do not cease to amaze |

darkelf: Most likely malnutrition. You see, most of the U-17 guys are from the streets and from lower class homes where good nutrition is rare. Hence their stunted growth Are Nigerians kids more malnurished than those tall Malian and Niger kids? Me think it is more of a genetic than nutrition factor. |

openmine: I may be wrong but Its obvious you started watching U-17 world from this edition for you to come to such conclusion! Go and find out about the golden eaglets of 1993 and 1985! I refer to this period because of the youthfulness of the squad then...they were so young yet they played like men! Well organised and had everything! Teamwork,Skills,gameplan,showboating...Name them...They had everything!
Have you watched the current U-17 Brazilian team? Please stop defending mediocrity...we did not go with our best players! They are just a bunch of individual players trying to impress foreign scouts from top clubs in Europe! Wait until they meet a formidable opponent before you hastily conclude! Oga with the bolded you are obviously new to the nairaland sports thread. |

BascoVanVeli: Just like at the afcon our boys had trouble dealing with the physicality of their opposition. I think football wise they will be as good as any team at this tournament The Hungarians were really bossing our kids with size. Even against African oppositions our U17 sides are usually small which takes us back to a question i asked Months ago. That why are a teenagers usually small? |

As usual Manu's team struggled in the defense. He started with 3CBs and 2 wing backs reason why Akinkumi Amao was sacrificed to the bench. Manu please that set up didn't work. Switch back to 4-3-3 or 4-4-2. Tijani as usual showed leadership in team as his total Dominance in the midfield was too glaring. Overall the midfield did good. Our attackers didn't click till the final whistle even with the 4-2. All 4 goals from a midfielder and 2 full backs. Manu has to sort out thar attack. Olusegun, very skillful and athletic but he needs to be calmer when taking the final decisions. Ubani did well and was a threat alll night but he still needs to work on his shots Amoo has to start the next game he brought in creativity and fluidity to that attack. Again I appeal to Manu switch back to a back 4 so Amoo can play next game. I must also give kudos to Hungary. They are a tactically sound side and played with so much maturity for their age. They only played against a more determined side that has a rich pedigree to protect So happy to be a Nigerian right now. Another crop of players in the products line. Just wait for them. And to the numerous plastic fans here. This is the U17 WC and WE ARE NIGERIA!!!!!! |

The Hungarians have been tactically superior even though our boys are more technically gifted.
Yet again Manu has failed to raise a good defense.
We need to play with more attacking cohesion.
I still believe in this team. |

TheGoodJoe: As in, learnt a lot about tactical insights during play for us to see improvement in his game play.
Setting a league on fire depends on a lot of factors. However, tactical understanding and knowledge growth is now a big part of footballing success. I think Nacho has gotten a good dose at Leicester City. TheGoodJoe my friend |

TheGoodJoe: I talked about the difference I noticed in one of Nacho's goals where instead of dashing for the crowded space for a player, I think Barnes to pass to him, he dropped deep to receive the ball which was so different from the Nacho I know.
Nacho showing such understanding showed me he was ready. I clearly expressed it here. He is working with some brilliant minds and have gained from them.
I believed Nacho needed an extra year with Guardiola before moving. He will have something close to that with his time with Rodgers. I feel he is okay. So you mean he is ready asin ready to set the Turkish league ablaze? |

wayodude: Why would Rohr be worried by the possibility of a better player coming on to displace an incumbent and by doing so improve his results and ratings?
Surely any coach, army general, tradesman etc will want the best tools available to him right?
So if Rohr has overlooked even extending an invite to his guy all through his tenure when he has called up players who were almost totally unknown to the average naija fan like sareren bazee, ebuehi, maduka, semi ajayi and most recently Solomon otabor that should tell you that whilst his selections are largely on merit there are still influences at play. We can call this the 'Nigerian Factor'.
Having said that Eze will be called up if not in the next squad it will be in the following one.
I won't argue with anyone comparing him to Iwobi at this time. Simply not worth it. Well said bro. You've gat a thumbs up for this comment |

komekn: Today Iwobi had a very good game today in my opinion almost everything good in this match came from him.
If he doesn't get the MOTM it will be a disappointment.
Critically speaking he needs to be more consistent and garnish his performances with the occasional goal. I don't dispute the fact that he had a good game. He just needs to work on his conversation rate. He had no business missing that chance. |

BascoVanVeli: I was so angry at him. All he had to do was pick a side but he panicked slightly. I think fatigue played a part also because he put in a shift today and was rightly given a standing ovation when he went off. Pick a spot and 'place' the damn ball into the net! |

jihday: Close watchers of Nigeria football are now wondering how top NFF officials hope they can wriggle out of the corruption charges against them simply by imposing the son of the country’s security chief on the final squad to the U17 World Cup in Brazil.
Abba Bichi, a student in China, was a shock inclusion on the final Golden Eaglets squad to the U17 World Cup, which starts on October 26 in Brazil.
He will be 16 in December and the FIFA official squad announcement has it that he will wear jersey No 19 and he is a talent of Talentbase FC in Nigeria.
Bichi Junior has yet to see action in the warm-up games the Eaglets have so far played in readiness to the World Cup.
SCORENIGERIA First Raised The Alarm On Bichi Junior
Sources close to the Eaglets camp were unanimous that the boy is not good enough to be on the squad, but he was listed on the orders of NFF top shots.
This writer has watched the boy play at the FIFA Goal Project in Abuja and he is undeserving of a place on the final squad.
There is a long list of better players including those who did not even make it to Brazil. Coach Manu Garba reportedly kicked against the selection of the younger Bichi, but he was told in very unclear terms he also has an option to head back to Nigeria.
It was alleged that this “political player” plan was initiated and executed by NFF vice president Shehu Dikko in a most desperate move to get a favourable report from the country’s top security agency.
SCORENigeria further gathered that Daniel Dalung, the nephew of immediate past sports minister Solomon Dalung was also on this jamboree to Brazil that the cash-strapped NFF cannot afford.
He did not make the final cut.
All these have shown that top officials impose players on national teams for their selfish ends contrary to their claims.
SCORENigeria first reported that the son of the DSS chief was smuggled on the trip to Brazil.
The plan by desperate NFF officials led by president Amaju Pinnick, who will appear in court in Abuja on November 5 over various corruption charges, is to curry the favour of the country’s top shots so that they are left off the hook.
Pinnick and four other top officials – Seyi Akinwunmi, Shehu Dikko, Mohammed Sanusi and Ahmed Yusuf ‘Fresh’ – are also being investigated for alleged corruption by both the ICPC and EFCC. https://scorenigeria.com.ng/can-shock-u17-world-cup-selection-of-abba-bichi-save-embattled-nff-officials-from-corruption-trial/ Too bad. Which way Nigeria |
