ivolt: There is a problem you are not seeing. If someone refuse to give you a job for bigotry and they don't want bad publicity. They will simply conduct a normal interview and send you a regret letter later. You won't even know the reason for non-hiring. This man voiced out his reasons because he fears no consequence in the current setting. When there are consequences for such action, people like him won't give out any details for their decision and you can't read their mind!
Even in federal educational institutions that is supposed to be equal, recruitments are based first on the applicant state, then the dominant religion and then others. Of course, they won't tell you unless you are close to some insiders.
These advice all sound good, but why will anyone follow it given what we know of humans?
I can tell you for a fact that this failed project have several muslims working on it even a top consultant is one of them. And the patrons have muslims including Lagos deputy governor and Oluwo of Iwo.
Quota system or tokenism do not work in reality. There is nothing stopping a bigot from employing 2 people of different religion juts to meet up with legal mandate and filling other positions with his people.
If you watched this interview, the man allegedly asked directly for the applicants church and not his religion meaning, he would still have been rejected if he attends the wrong church.
The issue of discrimination in hiring cannot be legally solved. Can it be improved, yeah a bit, but there is definitely no winning it. We are still on same page. Improving it is even a long term project cos we didnt get here overnight. |

ivolt: How do you face the negative practice and stop it? Please reply. We should start by condemning it with our speech. There is power in the voices of the people. We should also not keep quiet when we are a victim. Most people who discriminate based on ethnicity or religion usually are afraid to defend it in public or media cos they know its wrong. Each and everyone of us should stop religious bashing on social media space, we can do it. Nigeria govt shouldn't have a state religion. The news that a state is using tax payers money to build mosque is a sad one. Schools should teach ethnic and religious tolerance and make them understand that we are human beings first before any ethnic or religious affiliations. At assemblies in schools, teachers should ensure assemblies are conducted in both religions. At the level of families, if you have Christian relatives celebrate with them visit and merry with them and when its time for Muslim festivities too, the Christians should also return the same gesture. This is how we grew up till religious leaders started preaching against these things and religious tensions follows it. The constitution should be amended to state that its illegal to have no Christians or no Muslims in any organization be it religious or not. These are the little I can think of for now, I hope it helps. You should share your thoughts too, let's learn from your knowledge. Thanks |

Religion generally is a problem. A man was also denied employment cos he is a Muslim. He was even told that the reason he hasn't made headway in life is cos he is a Muslim.
Nigeria should become a secular state and ceases to recognize officially any religion.
Then we can start to make progress. |

delpee: We've seen Muslims names on the list of survivors. A woman was there asking for her daughter, Zainab who was said to be on IT.
Really, people shouldn't be chasing clout or catching cruise on a matter so grievous. We have Pastor Moses Muideen Kasali. Zaynab could be Christian too. Names does not all the time determines religious affiliations. |

barbstee: Why do we like to deny the obvious This is something that happens even between Christians of different denomination God bless you. Instead of us to face this negative practices and stop it, all the comments kept doing propaganda and names calling. Later they will all be shouting about how the country is this and that. Adebowale Sikiru's case is not the first. Many people have experienced this be it Muslims or Christians, even withing their religious groups. Some people will look at you and say you are not Muslim enough or you are not Christian enough. As a result, deny you job opportunities, promotion, tenancy rights, right to association or any other life changing openings. It happens in civil service too, if a religious fanatics is at the helm of affairs and you are unfortunate to not belong to his or her own group, you are in soup. Infact, religious discrimination is stronger and more profound than ethnic discrimination, the owner of the Ikoyi apartment employed a P.A of eastern origin cos she is a Christina but refused to employ that man cos he is a Muslim even though they speak same language. I feel very bad reading many of these comments, the comments only shows that we are not better than our leaders and we got what we deserves in them. As long as we do these injustice to ourselves as a people, our leaders will continue to play that religious and ethnicity card to divide and rule us all, there by keeping the ordinary Nigerians in poverty and penury while they embezzle away the financial future of this country. |

Nbotee: Will increasing it improve the feeding conditions of prisoners? The answer is No. Not until good welfare package is arranged for the prison officers and members of staffs. You asked them to serve inmates good food with nice protein on top of it, while they could hardly afford same meal. What do you expect? Corruption. Reward workers well, remunerate well and pay allowances, that is when you have moral justification to fight corruption. |

udoji2021: Good day nairalanders, I created this thread some months back
https://www.nairaland.com/6527936/wife-wants-kill-me-what
I want to thank you all for the advice and emotional support you people gave me during those tough times, the love you showed me that time was genuine and I really appreciate you all. thank you
I'm happy to tell you once again that my wife gave birth to a beautiful baby girl last month. I was not even with her that time cos I moved out of the house and was squatting with a friend close to my house to avoid clashes with her, when it was time, a neighbor helped her to the hospital and inform me immediately which i went straight to the hospital and meet her, when I arrived at the hospital, she gave birth already and called me inside immediately, the first thing she did was to tell me that I'm a father now(in sign language) something she did not do for months. I congratulated her and after some small talks, I went and see the doctor to pay the bills. they gave me a list of things to buy which i bought immediately. we left the hospital the next day. she went straight to where I was staying and tell me to come back home which I did, I was still afraid of her which she noticed too but what i saw the time was different. After some weeks, I noticed that she changed from that monster to her former self. She apologized for everything she did to me, I told her that I did not hold anything against her and she should feel free. since then, even if i shout, she will cry, if I refuse to eat, more crying, if I come back late,. wahala, and nothing pains her more than me talking about the things she did when she was pregnant.
Lastly, I told her that we should go and do family planning but she is refusing that I did not trust her even after she apologized, it's now becoming another problem cos I can't allow her to get pregnant again till I sort myself out, I remember what I went through that time and I'm not ready for a repeat. but she is insisting that even if we start sleeping together again, nothing will happen cos she knows her circle very well.
I created this thread to update you on how she changed and prove those that attributed her behavior to pregnancy right. I'm still struggling financially but I don't need help from people, I said this because of the people that called me a scammer that time, and as far as I can remember, it was only one person with Nnamebuka(God bless him) moniker that sent something to me.
Thank you all God bless you Nnamebuka. We need more people like you in the world. |

dru23: For peace of mind, kindly stay away from those Camry v4. 2007 to 2010 v4 are factory defects are notoriously known to short oil.. Especially if you are going to be using it for uber. It will require daily anointing of oil to top it every morning. Failure to do that will kill the engine.......
Now failure to follow advice, And decide to use it and people tell just use thicker oil 20w50 for the oil burn. You will end up spending more money for topping the oil . 20w50 engine oil is around 9k naira. And an uber driver covers at least 2k miles a month and 20w50 will need more frequent oil change, and failure to change oil will lead to sludge engine. Either way avoid it .. The driver that are using it now on uber are on a time bomb. It is a matter of time before the car breaks down Hmm mm mm mm mm thanks Dru |

But, if its for #65/km trips, I won't touch it.
Engine 2AZ FE is over 400k. Transmission is almost 400k. OEM Ac compressor is about 180k.
I don't wanna see u sweating in traffic looking for trips cos you are trying to conserve petrol. Can a driver rely on offline trips? Do they come often? |
