You are all hypocrites. |

Afenifere is all about the brown envelope that they are no longer able to collect because the PDP is no longer in power.

Politics › Re: China Approves Loan For $2.6 Billion AKK Gas Pipeline by idealogical: 4:00pm On Dec 16, 2020 |
persius555: There is a vast network of pipelines running from the Niger Delta to the south west (specifically Lagos). Lets do a data comparison on how much the gas companies are making presently. The same gas pipeline supplies Benin, Togo and Ghana.
These countries are severely indebted to Nigeria as it is. Despite the market in Lagos, gas is still out of the reach of the masses. We are talking of the richest state in Nigeria that accounts for almost 52% economic base.
If you take a loan of $2.5 billion to supply gas to the rest of the north in the midst of cash crunch, how long do you think it will take to repay the loan. This is just another subsidy realm we are heading towards. We take loans without asking the ultimate question, Can these projects repay these loans?
Between Nigeria and Algeria, the countries in between are not readily viable. It's Ok for other people see sense, progress, development and economic opportunities in this project and it's also ok for other people to see the opposite. It is imperative and economically sound to make sure that every region in Nigeria is gas connected. Your objections are not factual, just your opinion. Arguing back and forth is a waste of time. |

Why aren't the private sector undertaking the project if they are sure of the industrial base in North. AKK is just another failed project waiting to happen You are entitled to your own ignorance. Going back and forth with people like you is always a waste of time. |

CSTRR: The last time I heard it was suspended or something like that. There is certainly no hurry to do it.
Anyway, my point still stands.
If we had a govt with a semblance of intelligence, all hydrocarbon transfer to the north should have been planned through the Port Harcourt-maiduguri rail platform.
It's common sense. No, it was awarded just 2 months ago, not canceled. I Know it sounds good to the ears, but rail transportation of gas is too deadly and it's not efficient and cost effective so why waste money on such antiquated mnode of gas transportation.? Look at the pick below, it takes 3 days to transport 30,000 barrels of oil from Canada to the US, but with pipeline, you can transport 35 million barrels in just one day? Do the math and count your money, it's no brainer.

Politics › Re: China Approves Loan For $2.6 Billion AKK Gas Pipeline by idealogical: 8:16am On Dec 16, 2020 |
CSTRR: True.
The money for the gas pipelines would be enough to build the port Harcourt to Maiduguri rail. Contract port Harcourt to Maiduguri was awarded 2 months ago. |

persius555: LNG transportation is a global thing. On the scale of exposure to disaster, it is below 3%. The US have been shipping LNG via LNG vessels over the high sea to Europe for years. This accounts for 12.5% LNG supply to Europe. The commercial viability of this project at a time when the economy is already depressed should be our concern. Again, we don't have enough safety profile like the US to do surface gas transportation like rail transportation of flammable gas. We currently transport gas overseas via ships, but we don't need ships to transport gas within Nigeria or to North African destinations. The commercial viability is very strong and the fact that the economy us depressed doesn't mean we should not progress and develop. No need to be negative any any means necessary. |
Politics › Re: China Approves Loan For $2.6 Billion AKK Gas Pipeline by idealogical: 7:52am On Dec 16, 2020 |
persius555: It will make more sense if the loan is channeled towards completing the North to East rail section. That way, LNG can be conveyed by rail to and from the niger delta to the north. Dont forget the same rail will serve dual purpose as goods can also be transported to and fro.
The problem with this government is not availability of funds but the wastage of available funds. Surface transportation of highly inflammable gas in Nigeria is like begging for serious disaster. No, we are not safety conscious and ready for that, underground pipeline is our best option. |

kayjay69: This country is finished.
There are thermal power stations all located in the South of Nigeria that require Gas to produce electricity.
Rather than invest this kind of money in building a gas infrastructure for present and future thermal power plants, the federal government led by the Fulani elite prefers to spend money on an unnecessary project similar to the kaduna refinery.
I say again, this country is finished. Is this not the same gas infrastructure that you need to send gas to thermal power plants? Abi how do you get gas to power plants if not by pipelines? It's not by force to criticize or upside down. |
Politics › Re: China Approves Loan For $2.6 Billion AKK Gas Pipeline by idealogical: 7:12am On Dec 16, 2020 |
persius555: You borrow to fund a project whose viability is close to non existing. Can you pay back the loan with profit from the project.
What is the viability? The gas they are piping through the pipeline is for sale and profit, to improve commercial and industrial activities and production and to create jobs and generate investments, not for show or to blow the gas through the air or to dash dash. |
