just twice
Not enough sir!
Maybe 5-6 is applications of 5g per application (2.5g urea and 2.5gNPK) for first and maybe 2nd depending on the cultivar)
and (2.5g of NPK and 2.5g MOP) for the remaining applications, you could fertigate to ease stress. It works for peppers, tomatoes, and cucumber according to EWS recommendations...i won't lie, it's hard to follow this method sha

Good evening all.
Please if you have had an experience regarding this please help asap.

There is this land I got recently that is close to stream but I'm having serious headache with it regarding the type of soil.

I noticed the soil is a clay soil and that it holds on water.
My fear is on the soil drainage when the rain comes since I'm not in control of rain and I'm in the south that experiences heavy downpour yearly.

I have never grown vegetables on a soil like this.
I have always had loamy and sandy soils that drains well with raised bed and have not had issues.

What is your experience growing pepper, cucumber, tomatoes, etc on a clay soil.

Drought problems made me source for a land close to water but this clay is giving greater headache now.

Please help asap with your suggestions.

Thank you.
from the description you gave me, it's on the hilly side where flooding doesn't occur!
Naturally it's not always good for vegetables due to low aeration and high water holding capacity! Amendment can be done by deep and thorough tillage and application of HIGH quantities of organic matter, maybe in the form of manure.
Apply the manure at least 2-3 weeks before cultivation for better results.
And finally, be careful with your irrigation system as this soil has an extremely high water retention capacity...others who have farmed by the riverside can help contribute too

The one in the attached picture was nandini I harvested in December, but my current batch of Saira is still having the same issue. However, another person who bought same Saira seeds from the same source doesn't have the issue.

Me I'm suspecting it may have something to do with soil or nutrient deficiency.
Hello sir, I just went a customer's place to see first hand the same issue totally ravaging someone's Saira farm...

I am glad you finally used the cabrio, just alternate with other fungicides for best results... btw, how much is the 1litre container?

sorry boss I have come again...the nandini started flowering yesterday. Lots of male flowers. I couldn't see any female. So, my question is that is that how the flowering pattern is?
The females will show up in a few days time, don't be worried! If the farm isn't big, and your crops are healthy, I would say if you walk around inspecting by tomorrow, you may likely spot some female flowers

.1. It makes sense to apply it to Field before you transplant if you don't know the history of the land. 2. Using myself as an example, i don't spray my seedlings in nursery but my friends do spray their own (very low dosage) the day you want to transplant, try and spray the farm land with insecticide before you transplant your seedlings. 3. If you ask me,it is not
compulsory but necessary if you can afford it, and you most be careful with it. Too much dosage will backfire!
quick question, that method of trellising tomato you used, how effective was it? didn't you have breakage of the branches and also some branches touching the ground?
AgricultureRe: My Cucumber Farm Dairy by ideepaul: 11:01am On Jan 18, 2021
the way cucumber is arranged into bags in your side is so different from how it's done here! it's stacked vertically, the edges of the bags look straight, and it's filled higher up than that, market women don kill us for here sha cheesy grin

I suggest you do experimental planting first before considering buying the seeds. No rush. Will increase seed quantity to 200 so you can share.

How do I get your contact info as there's none in your profile.

I can probably sell you a packet (1500 seeds) for N13, 500.

I have not grown Platinum before, but it seems it is a very good seed, from what I have been reading here. However, from the pictures I have seen the plants seem rather tall thus necessitating staking - this can be costly in terms of time, money and effort.

If you want to grow a very large field, the variety I have would be a better choice since it doesn't grow very tall and does not require staking. Yes, you lose may be 10% of the fruits to rot, but I think it is worth it when you consider the effort that goes into staking.

Staking is also a barrier to you scaling up. How do you stake 20,000 plants without investing a ton of money huh

A tomato variety that is low in height, produces well, highly disease resistant, and is generally low-maintenance is a no brainer in my view.

If you look at Tomato Jos (the American lady investor spending millions of dollars growing tomatoes in Kaduna (I think)), her tomato plants are not staked. That's because she plants several hectares and staking is simply not economically feasible in that situation.

I'm not given to hyperbole, but I'm tempted to say that if this particular tomato seed is adopted widely in the South today, in a year or two, there would be little need to import tomatoes from the North.

Based on my experience, it seems to do well in ALL seasons - dry, wet, heavy rainfall, low rainfall, very high temperature etc. Also, the structure, shape, and colour of the fruit is excellent for Nigerian market and taste. It is possible there are tomatoes that produce more in Nigeria today, but boy, I would be surprised if anything beats this tomato when all factors are considered.

That is why I want people to try it in different locations so we can confirm if my report of its performance is confirmed across the entire south or whether my location just happens to be well suited to it.

If you are in the North and you want to try in your location, I'd be happy to send you some seeds.
i tried to see if I could share with others, but to no avail, I need about 500 seeds just for trials and maybe sharing with a farmer or two so I can share an unbiased feedback...as per the cost, for 20000 stands needed for an hectare of rainy season cultivation (except your cultivar is different, I would need about 189000 for 21,500 seeds, hoping I can get more than 95%seed germination. if that is spent on seeds alone, it negates the benefits of low cost cultivation from my perspective.

pls! enlighten me on this, am using only Saaf, and buying Cabrio now doesn't Worth it. Or are you suggesting I use something like funguforce?
funguforce and saaf are just the same chemicals with different brand names (mancozeb 63% carbendazim 12%). funguforce gold and ridomil gold are made up of mancozeb and metataxyl, though they are a lil bit more expensive. if I were you, I would buy that cabrio, use it once and then alternate with the other fungicides, both mancozeb and copper based if the infection is not at the stage of NO NEED! cabrio has a better systemic action, and as such will help manage the issue better than funguforce and saaf, then you prune the affected leaves if you can.

I think he meant using copper based fungicide and I think timely pruning will reduce DM as their would be better ventilation
copper based fungicides are very good and also a lil bit pricy as I always see them in small 50g packs @ N500, I wonder how many packs he will use per application since his farm is big.
