Which variety can you suggest for me that can do well both in terms of yield and as well resist deease to some extent.

Our market this side like it not too big,
A medium sized greenish tasty Cucumber will
Attract higher buyers than big cucs.

East west and modification palava ..note the only cultivar I do plant is greengo so no other cultivar crossing it. Stand producing albino fruit is up to like 15 stand Which is not marketable at all.

I think the gene purity for most hybrid seeds is btw 80-98%!
So I normalise that I should see some plants with funny xteristics like colour, shape, sizes, disease capacity, etc. It could also be a nutrient(macro/micro) deficiency/over abundance issue ...but like someone stated here, you could actually DM hadiza or a south west rep of EWS sha.

Can someone please advice or explain the necessary chemicals ( herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and fertilizers) required for a pepper farm.

I would like to understand the required chemicals, how often should application be, required amount and every other tangible information and practices that will guarantee maximum yield.

I am very new into agriculture, but I will appreciate every professional assistant I can get ranging from reading resources, advices, direction and all, I am very willing to learn as I very diligent.

Read from page 1 to page 59, read farmerakinyole threads on tomato and cucumber, okoroemeka on cucumber, find pistotita and read(it's complex, but there is knowledge in between those big grammars and stories you will regret not following later) write a detailed summary of what Info and knowledge you have extracted, then ask specific questions to gain specific clarification on certain aspects that are a lil bit too technical.....I come back many times to read them myself

have you heard of Rambo f1 from royal seeds .?

Rambo doesn't have the same level of tolerance to fusarium and bacterial wilt like cobra and platinum
If your irrigation pattern fluctuates, you may have too many cracked fruits even with foliar and soil application of calcium (fruits are bigger than your typical hybrid tomato :120-140g)
Needs extra work cuz of blight as it's a bushy cultivar
Nice cultivar by the way for some who has an excellent farm setup and follows best practises
Not for a beginner farmer

this year is actually going to be different kinda off ...the tomatoe calendar for this year is already ruined ,although it's not advisable to borrow money to fund tomato cultivation I however still believe tomato will still sell for very good price till end of the year...because the main supply line has be critically hit this year,before thing goes back to normality will be next year...

I saw a programme on nta 100s of tomato farmers are vowing to never cultivate Tomato again in the north until the government find a way to help them with tuta absoluta ,more than 5000000 hectares was lost to tuta absoluta this year...

So I will implore western farmer to keep cultivating

In an infested land, you loose like 25 percent of diva to wilt compared with platinum. Diva catches blight easily in comparison with platinum. The fruits are bigger and more appealing though. Doesn't carry plenty fruits too. As for redness, I haven't paid much attention. I think it's a general thing in tomatoes. Just like we have here presently.

Then I will stick to the ever reliable cobra 26 or 34 ahead of it during the rainy season. Wilt no be anybody mate

How is diva compared to platinum based on disease resistance and redness. Cuz I am hearing unbelievable stories of poor wilt resistance and that the fruits are not deep red when the sun doesn't shine well?

. Alright sir. You are very right about disease pressure this year. Currently managing an hectare. And the disease load has been crazy. Nothing wey I never spray.... Fungu force, ridomil, green force, azostrobin.....sulphur..... managing though.

During the dry hot season, tuta absoluta will come back. And I am not sure farmers a re ready for this one

Disease pressure is high this year, even experienced farmers are failing, the price will go down to an extent but it won't be bad...the challenge will be if you can manage the crops with the heavy bacterial and fungal challenges , and especially towards the hot period when tuta may raise its head again.

3acres intermittently is still too big in my opinion. Spread your market risks by diversifying into other high hectare value crops (cucumbers, watermelon etc.); target your production to coincide with market scarcity of your selected enterprises; and employ the services of seasoned experts or consultants for proper guidance and management so you don't end up wasting your capital.

This is just what I'll do if I'm in your shoes.

I saw you mentioned you cultivate peppers too, how has your journey been like compared to tomatoes and are you doing local or hybrid peppers?

I am really confused about nairaland is it only people that have few hundred thousand that are here because I no understand ooo… I know few farms that cultivate different crops on like 30 to 50 acres and they started with 20 And they’re successful now… they own personal cars. The only thing I see on nairaland is 2plot success of tomatoes or cucumber, 2acres failure of tomatoes…. Nah only 2-3plot una Dey get success for here? Must I start from 2 plots? What if I have like 10 - 20 million to start a agribusiness where I am gonna have agronomists- marketers-contracted laborers-security…. I go con carry 20million for hand con go Dey cultivate 2plots? I have never see a successful 5 acres of tomatoes farm here but I know some and have even see some on Facebook… nah only newbies Dey here? Abi nah fund issue?

When you have successfully done the 100 acre farm, I hope you will have time to update us here too o...better follow advise selfless individuals are sharing with you for free before those paid consultants and marketer will teach
you the definition of pain and losses, you may experience unbearable and sometimes permanent pains and losses

Grey mold or botrytis blight...
alternate a fungicide that has chlorothalonil with Five- Star, cabrio duo to stand any chance of slowing down its growth
... I fear this disease more than late blight, as it spreads too quickly to be controlled easily, meanwhile your fruits, stems, and leafs may start growing white molds on them, and it kills whatever it touches

In addition to what my oga @farmerakinyole6 said about nutrients, you could use a water soluble fertilizer in very very small doses while watering, pls very small doses o! And pls always use sterilised materials for your nursery as your plants may have been infected, nothing you can really do about it as most times it doesn't affect your transplanted crops too badly, but prevention of calamity is better than cure

How do u deal with muddy water from stream when the rain starts, at my place i can tell rains have started in far away places by the muddiness of my water , it might rain for weeks in other location while my location might need watering but the stream i use would be extremely muddy..... how do u deal with muddy streams

buy a pump filter...just know it will reduce your pressure slightly

Am doing installation of drip tape but I have an issue at hand. After measuring the length of ridges it was 36 meters and I don't know if I should run the drip on the 36 meters or I should place the layflat at the center of the farm and puncture both sides to cover 18meters each

does your drip connector have a stopper? If yes, then maybe you could decide to punch both sides...but first,how many ridges do you have connected, and What's your water source?

Thank you,I have a generator,but I am yet to get a farm assistant that will stay on site..the person helping me stays in another neighborhood,comes in the morning leaves in the evening ,I don't want to loose the generator to thieves ,they stolen alot from me already..

That's why I hoping I could pump the tank full,use it for like 2 days repump and keep doing so till I get an assistant..my targeted stand is 3.5k -4k

during this hot dry season, you need at least 8-10000L of water daily to survive except your farm is fully mulched, then maybe 5000L could take a day or at max 2, depending on the quality of the mulching material and the frequency of irrigation...find a helping hand b4 starting that project, you need like 2 individuals to run a tomato farm of 4k stands efficiently

Without thinking twice, it's not enough!
Your tank is likely going to be a 3000L tank, and that's not enough for 2 plots except your plant population is less than 1000 plants...that height is enough as the horizontal distance shown isn't significant to cause challenges... buying extra tanks isn't feasible, cuz structural integrity of the tank stand must be considered to avoid failure...buy a generator if you don't have one, and plan for fuel...there is a reason why dey season farming isn't easy and commodities expensive

Guys I woke up and saw this on my phone, the phone refuses to reboot, is wiping data and flashing the phone the only solution cuz I don't want to lose my data of over 3yrs

I had this same I immediately after a chemical salt spilled on my phone,after small kpako naija style repairs, the phone would automatically enter the fast boot mode on its own, what I did was to use the volume down button to take me to reboot, press the power button, and continuously click on the power down( I did not press and hold o) button until it's close to completing the booting process, I just knew the power/volume button were malfunctioning, so I had to counter its activity by continued clicks like that...maybe it case is different/similar

I don't support APC but how many successful rice mills are run by Biafrans, so you just wake up overnight, create Biafra and all our problems will be solved? Next time stick to standard recommendations for spacing, and all other agronomic procedures, especially as a newbie
Next time buy seeds that have fusarium and bacterial wilt tolerance during the rainy season( confirm from other farmers, as some of these marketers and seed companies can be funny with truth), also get a cultivar that has tolerance to nematodes or you treat your soil for nematodes
For this batch, all you can do is hope and pray

Also, has anyone used "fungicare" (jubaili version of Ortiva top) before.? A farmer complained his tomato leaves become pale and it has an adverse effect on his crop after application. Abeg drop your review if u have any.

Cobra had low resistance to bacteria wilt. Don't think of yield but disease resistance. I'm seriously battling with bacterial wilt. platinum is a bit better than it

It is well...btw, my oga that applied only npk to get results, your results and assumptions could be misleading especially for newbies.
You left out your farming zone, manure/organic matter already present in your soil, soil pH, the quality of your fertilizer, and most importantly your experience.
Naso new farmer go try this your method, come dey shade tears of many colours

like how many minutes or hour in a day? True with enough water you can almost! But you will still see some cukes that will be bitter. Also, yields cannot be compare to ones we plant April-may.

Maybe it's associated with the cultivar, if you have proper crop management practices and it's still bitter, then I would suspect these dark cucumber cultivars or maybe your area is hotter than some zones.
cuz I barely have issues with bitter cucumbers, except like when I had challenges with irrigation for extended periods early this year (story for another day sadly).
I would rather use shade nets for coloured capsicums than for cucumbers, both are profitable though, but if properly managed(not for newbies o), ROI is higher with coloured capsicums, be ready to prune and trellis for sustained production and for products of higher quality and grade

Twice during raining season

When you spray cabrio duo, ethically, you can't harvest anything from such a farm until you meet the 7days preharvest interval! Same thing applies with some pesticides we use. My recommendation would be to use cabrio duo during the flowering stage and switch to a mancozeb based fungicide during the fruiting stage, space out crops for more aeration, and feed your crops properly

I hope we all know that cabrio duo has a 7day preharvest interval, so from spraying to harvest can't be less than 7days if we follow standard practice, taking into account the implications of long term exposure to such chemicals, I am not castigating anyone for using cabrio, as I use it too, but at a different growth stage, just wanted us to think critically and come up with solutions that are effective, and also consumer friendly! Good evening ladies and gentlemen!
