Alright demeUdo, don't know why your name sounds like an Akwa/cross name though ! I can vouch for the authenticity of cedagro, as most farmers over here in Akwa Ibom pay huge amounts to her for delivery of goods to Uyo! Amounts that will make someone have orgasm just hearing, especially those buying irrigation kits and I swear I don't know her as a person, but I have had an Excellent business relationship with her.
I understand your viewpoint, but the business terrain in Nigeria, especially for the agro-allied businesses isn't levelled and ready to embrace this innovations blindly, especially considering the value of items waybilled, and hence, some of the innovations used in the general food delivery, and light goods sectors will need to prove resilience before they can be adopted by the other heavy duty sectors.
I understand you must be mad at her for not accepting your offer, but just know it's business! And most agro-allied businesses won't accept pay on delivery, as there have been reports of couriers carting away with goods worth huge sums, and the litigation process is back breaking.
The best you can do is go an agrovet shop around you, send someone who stays there to get it for you, or you take the risk to pay 100% for the items, which understandably is risky.
I can only guarantee you that the big names you meet here have done loads of business without failing, eg okoroemeka, komoland, emmaachile2, seedworld, etc.

Knapsack for commercial purposes? Nah nah! If I don't have access to water, I rather save my money at home. It's one of these three for me or I give up as far as cucumbers are concerned;
Furrow irrigation
Hose on the spot watering
Drip irrigation
How will you be feeding a matured plant with at least 2litre/day during the dry hot season with knapsack sprayers?
Even watering can better pass this thing

He didn't fertigate, that's why I said not more than 5g per plant, fertigating is a different ballgame entirely, you don't apply in lump-sum, just in little quantities but more frequently!

once you use good quality and quantity manure plus NPk 15:15:15 and the basics, seriously! no how you will get meaningful result. Calmag, potassium nitrates e.t.c are also good if you know when and how to use them.

how was your experience.with potassium nitrate on your cucumbers, at least so others can learn to avoid or use it!

I am sorry, I have been having difficulty logging in to nairaland, mancozeb, azoxystrobin(found in ortiva top), hexanocole are used, a combination of mancozeb and hexanocole fungicides could help prevent it and maybe manage if a bit for reasonable harvests, but for effective control, plant blight and rust resistant hybrid cultivars (if you are not sure of its resistance, avoid planting corn on that farm as the disease spores will be on the soil waiting for another year), then apply the above stated fungicide combination according to instructions and observe PHI and re-entry periods.

I don't do corn commercially, so information stated above is based on research papers and not my practical experience as I only plant hybrid corn when I do, and I haven't had that issue but I see alot of it around farms and farmers barely give it attention within the south as most of them aren't commercial maize farmers. You could meet the nearest agric department or ministry for more information (I suspect information given won't be far from what I stated above)

What would you advice, if rains start should the maize be allowed to rest from the stress and probably takeup the npk left or should urea be applied immediately to help it overcome drought stress

Apply urea and hope for the best, me nor dey do corn farming commercially

That's what I did. Mix in the proportion I wanted to use.
For example to get a blooming npk version, for every 1g of SSP (0:20:0), I used 0.7g of NPK (20:5:10) and 0.5g of MOP(0:0:60).
That's gives 14:25:35 (5:8:12) formula which is very good for tomatoes and pepper family.

For cucumbers, I will increase the NPk to 1g giving 20:25:35 (7:8:12) formula.
I noticed Mydaz RZ F1 cucumbers and Colombia watermelon could even take up to 45g fertlizer per plant at adulthood without a burn. It's impossible on peppers but manageable with tomatoes. Meaning every plants needs are different.

Urea is advised not to be mixed with any other fertlizer before application except you are using it immediately. The only advantage of Urea with the MOPs is the precise formula you can get from the formula as the three fertlizers Urea 46:0:0; SSP 20% 0:20:0 with calcium 18% /Sulphur at 11% and MOP 0:0:60 all have 1 major nutrient.
This is easier formulated than using NPk in the formula.

Have you thought about mixing your own fertilizer in the ratio needed or met individuals who have done them successfully, eg mixing MOP,SSP, and UREA to get a better version of the NPK at your plant specific needed ratio, not for storage o, but immediate usage, and maybe with a little bit of the other special grade fertilizer like borax for optimal results? I suspect some of the fertilizers I buy in my state are totally adultrated, and some stay more than 6months - 2yrs without dissolving and with no observable plant growth, especially the TAKAGRO sold here, I have seen the same TAKAGRO brought in from a neighboring state dissolve faster and with improved performance

You don't know alot about cucumbers and you're planning to do tomatoes? I am not here to scare you, but lemme be honest; it's difficult for a "successful" tomato farmer to fail in cucumbers if he gets some basic info needed, but it's very easy for a cucumber farmer to fail when switching to tomatoes.
The agrochemicals/materials you will use to manage the tomato farm won't be cheap nor free, so why won't you try to recoup some parts of your investment even if you're learning? Unless you have a good source of money that doesn't have any subheading!
I would personally advise you spent time digesting every info you can find on nairaland, Facebook(I have learnt more than you can imagine from here), YouTube, and any other research papers you can lay your hands on.
Devote time/do trials to improve on your farming capacity, and if you believe in God, pray for his mercies and favour.
Study every farmshot image you see, there is a lot to learn in images than most people can imagine (there is a reason why research bodies/labs don't put images of its work carelessly)
Find a farmer in your locality who is open minded and willing to share information with you,(they can be hard to find, but believe me, there are good people out there)
Start from crops that demand less capital, but have a good ROI, and understand the basics of farming from those easy crops with less challenges,( there's a reason why some crops have higher returns on investment, the risks involved no be here o).

Yes only if you select the right cultivars for the dry season with tolerance/resistance to viral infections, you have cheap and 100 percent reliable irrigation system, and you have the ability to control insect vectors in your farm, it will do better compared to the rainy season cultivation, but the challenge will be the extremely poor prices! Why don't you do other crops like cucumbers, okra, leaf vegetables, etc by then and wait for next year where you will have raised funds for tomato....from my experience, a well setup tomato farm is a lil bit more expensive especially during the rainy season, but you will get excellent results if setup properly!

Not really biase but facts. Ansal had 190g weights, Kilele about 120g while Padma was 85g. If these go to the market, more people will patronise the large type fruits and definitely command more price.

In Nigeria, there are still good varieties available from the kilele f1 to the Gamhar Rz f1 and Rambo f1 because these ones guarantee above 100g if your management is good. It seems the cobra 26 F1 is not red enough!

He didn't come out straight but you will notice Ansal F1 from seminis and Kilele f1 from Syngentha is preferred by him due to their disease resistance and big sized fruits.
East west has a new product called Diva F1. It may be better than the padmas and platinums in size and look (red colour). Any tomato below 100g at this age is a no-no for the current competition. What's the average yield for these padmas?
Cos I know a Rambo F1 farmer who gets 30 tonnes/acre in a group consistently.
Seminis have a new breed called the Xaman F1 but is not available here. It caught my eye because it does not need staking.

I really noticed the bias though I wont blame him as the preferred brands are doing well compared to our EWS that hype up products without giving out detailed explanation of the cultivar characteristics leaving you to your fate! To me, cobra 26 is better than Padma and platinum based on my experience here.
I read about the xaman, but it's not worth the stress for now based on the cultivars available to me, and I believe every cultivar has its unique plant Care and nutrition demands which we should learn and improve upon to get excellent results even from the cheaper and commonly available hybrids.

The smallest size was Padma f1! but many fruits.

For me I planted both cobra 26 f1 and platinum f1 I discovered platinum is overrated compare to cobra and has low tolerance for bacteria Wilt

They are doing well no doubt and are becoming best in terms of Nigerian penetration and dominance, but when it boils down to the best seeds? They aren't all always the best, but they are doing well no doubt and their products are sometimes cheaper than most except maybe Technisem.

Today cucumber was sold in portharcourt for 13k and tomatoes is still on the high side with pepper following suite.....omo farmers go enjoy this year oooo...thank God for drip, so no dulling for me even with the recent scarcity of rain.....money money money for me, all my hard work is paying off mega this year....

Maxi potassium nitrate by jubaili should be a lil cheaper than that, but thingz are changing though! Just don't apply more than 5g per stand, watch out for the taste, size, and yield, and report to the house on this later. Btw, I hope the cucumber planting without manure will NEVER cross your mind again!

the results of your experiment is a production of roughly 7 fruits per crop,which supposed to be yield of a normal well managed crop,but some factors tend to make this figure only to be an illusion to farmers,a farmer that got 7 fruits per crop is roughly 100 bags of cucumbers from 50grams of seed,I have see such yields before so it is possible,the problem usually starts when you try to expand from 8 crops to 1600 crop,with the additional work load and stress,sometimes you can no longer give the crops that special care that was give to the 8 crops,good soil and management are the keys to a successful cucumber farm.

By God's grace, next year I will continue my research on it and come up with something definitive. BTW, I never gave them any special care that beyond my normal schedule for larger landmass neither did I spray foliar fertilizers.
for this year, lemme concentrate on other crops!

In this your experiment. Did you have all the crops involved in bags or only some in bags.
I'm asking because if you planted some in bags and others on beds then you didn't give them similar growing conditions for the experiment. Your variables now include the soil preparation which I guess was not part of what you wanted to test.

I was also interested in how similar soil amendments in the soil and containers affected yield, 8 crops for soil and 8 for the bags each except for "manure + NPKfertilizer"

Such extremely high yields from and F2 generation seed is still baffling, I intend to do a more coordinated experiment next year as I do not have a large space to farm presently
As for spacing, except you have a standardized market for some of your products, especially, peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers, you maybe shocked to realize that total yield maybe increased by more dense spacing as far as you can manage issues associated with dense foliage using globally acceptable practices. Just read some research papers, repeat their experiment using locally available material and improvisation, compare their yields and be blessed, I am still open to any contrary experimental results and farmer experience, as that's how I learn, I am still your humble student!

I would reduce spacing to 30cm if mulched and fertigating.
To bring all this into context, I cultivated Saira f1 late last year,the yield was OK, and since I was planning to do tomatoes, I extracted a few f2 seeds, and planted them in sections of bags, and soil, with different spacing and farming procedures, I compared the fruits harvested, based on sizes, taste, no. of harvested fruit per stand and duration of harvest, the ones in bags were harvested for 6 weeks till the fruit quality just got poor and I abandoned it, for that particular section, I applied 2 spade full of manure + a handful of woodash+ KNO3 , No fertilizer, but 4 bags with 2 stands each have me 61 fully shaped fruits+ 17 misshapen fruits that are still marketable, the NPK section, started drying out in 3 weeks+ with the same manure application rate for all sections, the MOP section was the sweetest and lasted close to the KNO3 section

the potassium and boron content helps to sweeten fruits, but maybe at the expense of the fruit not lasting long if you are not careful

I have done trials of
manure +wood ash
Manure + NPK (generally used method)
Manure + Potassium Nitrate
Manure + MOP+ NPK
I know which one I would pick at the drop of a hat based on yield, fruit taste, harvest elongation, and market acceptance when I am done with these tomatoes! I can't advocate for CALMAG, SSP, and the rest for cucumbers because I have not done them. Even these spacing thing, if I voice my experience now, arguement will start.
But the keyword is "Do what works for you, but be flexible"
