christistruth01: How could Lt col Yakubu Pam have tipped off Gen Ironsi when it was Gen Ironsi himself that authorised the Changing of Gen Ademuleguns loyal guards in the middle of the night before he was murdered?
Gen Ironsi was unconstitutionally Forcefully taking over Power and refusing to Put the Coup Plotters on Trial
while he made sure Adaka Boro was sentenced to death almost immediately for the Niger Delta Rebellion
Gen Ironsi even promoted one of the Coup Plotters Which was in detention
Not to talk of Gen Ironsi’s abolishing of the Regional Autonomy Which had taken years to negotiate and establish before Independence
Lt Col Yakubu Pam who was a Northern Christian was Slaughtered by Anuforo despite all his Pleading
Yakubu Pam was the Army’s Quarter Master General he didn’t even have any fighting formations under him Lt. Col. James Yakubu Pam was not the army’s Quarter Master General, this position belonged to Lt. Col. Arthur Unegbe. Lt. Col. James Yakubu Pam was the Adjutant-General. However, Pam's sin started when he commanded the fifth battalion in Kano and was tasked to deal with Tiv riot of 1964. At the same time, C. C. Anuforo was the commander of first Recce, Kaduna. Be mindful that James was a Biron and his younger brother, police ASP was ADC to Aguiyi Ironsi. |

That was why Ifeajuna and Ademoyega had a first fight in Jail Ademoyega said Ifeajuna Tribalised the Coup
Gen Ironsi was not support to have been spared
Check the list of those killed and who murdered them, the list speaks for itself
To add insult to injury Ironsi was seen in a meeting with Ifeajuna and others after both Gen Maimalari and the Prime minister had been killed The bolded is another conjectural crap manufactured by the western Nigeria regional gazette of 1967. After the initial operations of January 15, 1966, the only officer who saw Ironsi was Maj. Don Okafor who traced Ironsi back to brigade of guards which he, Okafor, commanded. Unfortunately, Ironsi has taken over the command of Brigade of guards and ordered the soldiers to shoot any soldier on sight including the brigade of guard's commander. Don Okafor had to pitch a gun battle with the elements of brigade of guards in order to escape alive. When news broke Ironsi had regained the command of a military unit, Ifeajuna panicked and even ran to Ghana. |

However, the commotion at Pam's residence tipped off Ironsi vis James Pam's wife. |

Therefore the rest of the Igbos are by tribal association culpable of the same crime, because they did not wholly condemn this murderous act of these tribal coupists. Believeintruth: Do you know that recent documents released by Nigerian on the activities of the SMC showed that Ironsi actually set up a tribunal to begin trial of the coup plotters by August 23rd 1966 but we know that it never happened again the panel that was to do preliminary investigations and set the stage for the trials was headed by then Lt Col Yakubu Gowon. You see the problems with Nigerians is that they don't read and most of their postulations like the one you just made now is based on Anchored Bias(which is making conclusions based on the first bit of information you have without probing further) and also Unconscious Bias(making information based on predetermined notions of someone or something) . Gowon till today has failed to explain to Nigerians where that panel document is, so that we can understand if the coup was really motivated by ethnicity or not. Two people's reports have actually given an honest unbiased report on this coup. First it was Max Siolun in his book Oil, Politics and Violence, the next is MD Yusuf's police special branch report on that coup. Which actually absolved Ironsi of any involvement. The mistake Ironsi made was he was not swift at all in dealing with the coup plotters and he wanted to unite an already fragmented country by fiat which was his blunder. Every one of the members of fact-finding panel was a member of the July 29, 1966, coup. Capt. Baba Usman and CSP M.D. Yusuf participated in the coup of July 29, 1966. |

on the advice of the attorney General ?
Why did Ironsi then insist on taking over unconstitutionally? With nonsense like the bolded, I wonder if certain folks who navigate to nairaland had what it takes to contribute. The government was not that of NPC therefore talk of rump cabinet amounts to delusion. The government under Abubakar Balewa was a coalition type between NPC and NCNC. NPC produced the Prime Minister while NCNC produced the ranking minister. In the absence of the Prime Minister, the ranking minister runs the show. NPC was like APC of today where fools take sway. Besides, Zanna Bukar Dipcharima was even a junior minister. |

General Ironsi completely took away the autonomy of the Regions with Decree 34 of 1966
Before then the Western Region had its own busy UK embassy on great portland Street in London which had been established by Awolowo and which had to be closed down immediately after Ironsi's Decree 34 and the building was later taken over by the Federal Govt
https://guardian.ng/opinion/history-and-the-future-of-decree-34-of-1966 Idiotic nonsense capable only of Nigerians. The so-called Decree 34 was for civil service. Ironsi could have taken the autonomies of the regions yet appointed regional governors. Gowon and his follow putschists of July 29. 1966 coup ran into the headwind presented by such regional autonomy when the regional governor of eastern region refused to recognize him as the C-in-C of armed forces of Nigeria. Till this day, the federal civil service established by the so-called Decree 34 is being used. The autonomy of the regional government was dismissed by Decree which established the 12 states in Nigeria. |

Gowon could not even venture out of Lagos to visit Benin City. If not for betrayal artists and backstabbers such as your forbearers, southern Nigeria would have been semi-paradise.
