The funniest thing is people are commenting based on the headline by a clown and a known miscreant on Nairaland without reading the body. This is indeed the age of stupid, people don't bother to read! The headline says the US, a misleading title by a Nairaland miscreant who hates the US because he and his family had been denied US visa multiple times whereas the body of what he posted says Ford Foundation. I don't know when Nigerians will be wise enough and start reading beyond the headlines

Lies.

Russians in America are less than 350k. I mean those born in Russia. The least demographic in all the ethnic groups in the US.

Russians are not like Europeans. They have this superiority complex. And many of them mock Americans and their way of life. Life is affordable in Russia, food is cheap, health care is free. Something that Americans lack. I have first hand experience, having lived there for 12 years.

They are more interested in holidaying in Crimea or Belarus or Dubai or other Central European countries than US.

Very few Russians want to leave the European continent. The furthest they can go is Turkey or Dubai.

This is a complete lie. Russian population in the US is over a million. Many migrated to the US back then when severe famine hit Russia and so many of them are moving to the US. It is however true that many of them nowadays are moving to Turkey, Dubai and other European countries because it is difficult for them to get US visa

Foreign Affairs / Re: Donald Trump To Give Green Card To Foreign Students On Graduation Day by idolda: 3:49pm On Jun 21
SoNature:
The same Donald Trump that spent lots of money to build a fence on the US-Mexico border will certainly not do this. Likewise, Biden has also promised to regularise the stay of all undocumented immigrants in the US if he wins.

The thing is, American voters have a tough choice to make in this election because they will have to choose between one very old president who always falls like a baby and one garrulous ex-president full of drama. However, I don't see Trump beating Biden in this election.

I agree, Americans have a hard choice to make in November. Joe Biden spent 3years destroying the walls Trump built to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the US and just few months to election he announced an executive order preventing illegal immigrants from getting Green Cards which was the promise of Trump which clearly show he is desperate. Trump is also desperate and decided to announce this one. I just love election periods, it humble politicians lol

Soulsymbol99:
Learnt he said he was going to do massive deportation, his support dropped now em don do u turn undecided

Yes he said he is going to deport illegal immigrants massively. If half of all the illegal immigrants entering the US daily enter Nigeria, you and me would have started carrying placards. All he wants is for people to come into the US legally through visa. Me and you will queue for US visa at their embassy, get our biometrics done and pictures taken before being granted visa or denied but illegal immigrants simply walk into the US without biometrics, picture taken etc. This is the US we are talking about who has amassed enemies for itself by putting their nose in other people's business.

When many of these illegals get in, they can't work and some of them start committing crime to survive. Govt doesn't have their biometrics and pictures in their system so they are difficult to track down. Some of them even rape and kill a Nursing girl, some notorious terrorists on FBI wanted list have been arrested inside the US (they crossed in illegally) https://www.azernews.az/region/227471.html

The Press are the problem, whenever Trump talks about illegal immigrants, they remove the word illegal and just say immigrants making it look like those who migrated legally into the US
Foreign Affairs / Donald Trump To Give Green Card To Foreign Students On Graduation Day by idolda: 3:23am On Jun 21
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in a podcast released on Thursday said that students graduating from U.S. colleges should get a green card to stay in the country, a proposal that runs counter to his hardline immigration stance.

During the All-In podcast hosted by Silicon Valley tech investors, angel investor Jason Calacanis told Trump that the U.S. needs to be able to legally retain more high-skilled workers, a major issue for the tech industry.

"Can you please promise us you will give us more ability to import the best and brightest around the world to America?" Calacanis said.

"I do promise," Trump said. "But I happen to agree, otherwise I wouldn't promise... You graduate from a college, I think you should get automatically as part of your diploma a green card to be able to stay in this country and that includes junior colleges too."

A green card, also known as a permanent resident card, allows individuals the right to live and work permanently in the United States and is a step towards citizenship.

It was not clear if Trump was referring to all foreigners, including those who came to the United States illegally or overstayed their visas, or only those people on student visas.

Asked for comment, the Trump campaign said in a statement that only after "the most aggressive vetting process in U.S. history" would "the most skilled graduates who can make significant contributions to America" be able to stay.

One immigration advocate was not convinced by Trump's proposal.

"I almost have to laugh because his administration adopted multiple policies aiming to restrict student visas and make it harder for people to stay in the country after graduating," said Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, policy director at the American Immigration Council.

Many rich people are going to space with blue origin company and anyone can sign up directly with them. Why going with through a third party to book a space when you can book directly with Blue Origin? Also why waste a minimum of #1billion to send probably a politician son or daughter to space just to take selfie?

Foreign Affairs / China Loans Niger Republic $400 Million In Return For Crude Oil by idolda: 2:18pm On Apr 21
Niger’s military junta has signed a US$400 million deal with a Chinese state-owned oil giant as part of its plan to “diversify international partnerships” after cutting ties with France and the United States.

The deal signed on Friday by Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) chief executive officer Zhou Zuokun will see the Chinese company advance the money to help Niger’s military rulers meet short-term obligations as the economy struggles to recover from the impact of sanctions.

According to the Nigerien Press Agency, the Chinese company will be repaid with crude oil shipments within 12 months at an interest rate of 7 per cent.

“There is no shadow over this as we have safeguarded the interests of our country,” Zeine said after signing the deal in the presence of Chinese ambassador Jiang Feng, who has been leading the negotiations with Niger.

“China is a great friend for Niger, we can never say it enough,” Zeine said. “It must be remembered since the beginning of this great oil adventure, China has always been at the side of our country and today it is proven that at such crucial moments, we could obviously manage to request an advance, these are Niger’s rights, and we will give ourselves all the means to repay them.”

“This signature demonstrates the friendship … and fruitful cooperation between the two states,” said Jiang.

Resource-backed deals of this type are extremely popular with Chinese lenders, but critics say they increase countries’ vulnerability to debt.

Africa Development Bank president Akinwumi Adesina has called for an end to loans given in exchange for oil or natural resources, describing them as “non-transparent, unfair and corruptible” adding that they “complicate debt resolution, and mortgage the future of countries”.

“Africa must end all natural resources-backed loans,” he said last year during the Summit for New Global Financing Pact held in France.

The finance model was pioneered in Angola, which received billions of dollars from China for its reconstruction at the end of the country’s 27-year civil war in 2000 and still uses oil shipments to repay Chinese loans.

It is obvious this particular "investigative blog" has personal grievances with this particular smuggler. I can clearly heard where that man was saying custom Boss smuggled trailers of rice without the custom doing anything but this particular "investigative journalist" decided to ignore that particular one and focus on this guy threat to deal with custom officer. This selective investigation will only run this particular smuggler down while hundreds and thousands of smugglers in the good book of custom continue to game the system. Even the custom bosses self. I don't support illegal smuggling of goods either by smugglers or by custom officers as it robs the country of its revenue

How is the Punch right?
Have you tried other Countries that are just like NNPC e g Saudi Arabia have ARAMCO - is their own NNPC and today, ARAMCO is leading Oil Giant, making good returns to the Saudi 35Million People, that other Countries are trying to find out how they are so Profitable and making returns!
The Problems is the NNPC,so Fraudulent, that for decades,no returns was made to Nigerian People!
-As if Oil Businesses is not a good business but is a lie!
-First,the NNPC should be changed - including the top Management and the MD.They have been there for too long!
-President Tinubu should appoint a Minister of Petroleum, not himself,as other Presidents have done before him- so he will monitor and be able to put blame where necessary!
- We Nigerians do forget easily - if we don't have a Body to Control and Monitor a big Oil Sector like this, how do we want to leave this Oil- Sector in the hands of the Sharks-Oligopoly and we start saying - nobody is Controlling the Sector- for we can't afford to fail.
Let NNPC be but reform it like ARAMCO of Saudi Arabia!

Is Saudi Arabia as corrupt as Nigeria? Has Saudi Arabia spent $25billion to repair refineries in the last 10years and produce nothing? Do you think Saudi Arabia would spent such amount of on moribund refineries that produces barely nothing?

Nigeria has 4 different refineries with a combined capacity of 445,000 per day and already spent $25billion to repair them in the last 10years whereas Dangote built a completely new refinery with a capacity to produce 650,000 for just $20billion. If you are the manager of such company, would you advice the govt to keep pumping huge money on such moribund refineries?

If Yaradua had allowed the sales to stand and the $25billion had been invested on road network, healthcare, electricity among others do you think we will be in this state by now?

Politics / Re: No Half Measures, Tinubu, Sell Refineries - Punch Editorial Board by idolda: 8:29am On Jan 23
Punch is right, we can't keep spending trillions of naira every other year repairing the refineries when clearly the workers there will sabotage it. Yaradua made a very wrong decision reversing the sales of those refineries to Dangote. Best is to sell the refineries and invest the proceed in roads, healthcare system and agriculture. Govt has no business in doing business and let's leave oil business to private sector let them compete and crash the price while govt limit it function to regulation and oversight.

How's life in the UK with a single mum?

Who have passed through this situation and how did you people pull through

If you love your wife, baby and your family let her go ALONE! UK is brutal and all these kids who have never set foot in airports trolling in the name of advice on issues they have zero knowledge on.

Find ways to take care of the child, seek family helps, friends etc. Once your wife is settled and have fund for accomodation you can then come over with the kids. Hope it is not domiciliary job though because it will difficult for her to settle down if it is a domiciliary job but with NHS or care home job, she will be settled within 3 to 6 months.

Health / Harassment: Go To Court, Not Strike, OAUTH Nurses Challenge Doctors by idolda: 8:06pm On Jun 22, 2022
The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife branch, on Wednesday, challenged the Association of Resident Doctors in the hospital to approach the court of law for redress, instead of embarking on industrial action over the alleged harassment of their member by a nurse.

Doctors in the hospital had announced a two-day warning strike to protest the alleged harassment of one of them, by a senior nurse at the Female Adult Orthopedic Ward of the hospital, because the doctor refused to discard a waste generated after a medical procedure.

But stating its side of the matter, NANNM, in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Wednesday, signed by the chairman and secretary of the association, Comrade O. Ajayi and O. Oyeniyi, respectively, absolved the nurse on duty on the day of the incident.

The nurses maintained that there was nothing wrong in asking that the waste generated be discarded by one of the doctors that generated it.

The Association also said its lawyer had written to the OAUTHC management to protect the personal and professional rights of the nurse and all nurses at large in the hospital.

The statement further read in parts, “If the resident doctors are confident enough that their member is harassed illegally, why not honourably seek legal redress and unbiased judgment from the court of law, instead of threatening to further put innocent lives at risk. Will the loss of lives of Nigerians be a legitimate remedy for enforcing global best practices of waste management?

“As a legally compliant association, the Lawyer of NANNM has written to the OAUTHC management to protect the personal and professional rights of the nurse and all nurses at large in the OAUTHC and the world, at large.

The principle of duty of care dictates that “whoever generates waste must segregate and dispose it.” The refusal of the nurse to put the life of other healthcare workers and environmental staff at risk that the waste generated by the resident doctors must be appropriately segregated and discarded cannot be refuted, hence the need to call for action by the nurse.”

It also further said that nurses in the OAUTHC had agreed to continuously uphold the “duty of care” to ensure that the ward environment remained safe for the patients, relatives, and the entire staff within the hospital, adding that it would not tolerate more intimidation or professional harassment from members of the ARD in the hospital
