Ritual Killing: Girl, 9, Beheaded, Student Rescued in Ogun State

The Tata community near Ijoun in Yewa North Local Government area of Ogun State, South-west Nigeria, was on Monday thrown into mourning when people suspected to be ritualists beheaded a nine-year old girl, Taiwo Ajibode.

•Jimoh, the suspected kidnapper.

P.M.NEWS gathered that Mr. Sola Ajibode, his wife, Mrs. Abosede Ajibode and their three children, Taiwo, Kehinde and Bukola Ajibode were on a visit to their aged grandmother, Madam Ashande Ase when the incident happened.

Investigations revealed that Mr. Ajibode’s mother-in-law, Madam Ashande, 86, went to the night market at about 8 p.m on Monday night to buy food that her grand children wanted to eat.

Family sources further disclosed that while the grandma was away, their father, Sola Ajibode was sleeping inside the old woman’s room with the other two children. But the late Taiwo was sleeping beside her mother on a mat at the backyard and when Madam Ashande returned with the food, Taiwo was no longer by her mother’s side. She had been taken away by unidentified persons.

A search party was organised. Assisted by the town’s vigilance group, the search team combed the nooks and crannies of Tata village to no avail.

The late Taiwo’s mother, Mrs. Ajibode, disclosed that, on Tuesday morning, she decided to revisit areas they had searched on Monday night. Then the shocking revelation.

“Inside a cassava farm, about 50 metres to my mother’s residence, I saw the headless body of Taiwo. And sympathisers besieged the location immediately. They expressed surprise that the headless body could be found in that farm where people had searched endlessly,” Mrs. Ajibode narrated.

A community leader, Chief Moses, the Akogun of Tata reported the matter at the Igan Alade Police Station and the policemen visited the scene and took away the corpse.

The parents of the girl, community leaders and members of Tata vigilance group went to the police station to assist in the investigation. But Mr. and Mrs. Ajibode pleaded that the corpse of their child should be released to them for burial, saying they were not interested in any case.

After signing an undertaking, the police at Igan Alade Station released the corpse of Taiwo to her parents.

But the majority of the Tata residents thought otherwise. They preferred a thorough investigation into the incident, claiming it was a strange and unusual incident in the village.

A community leader, Chief Adisa Fasina said he could not recollect such an incident happening in the community in recent years.

Meanwhile, an SS1 student simply identified as Sunday has been rescued from kidnappers in Lagos.

Sunday

One of the suspects arrested in connection with the incident gave his name as Bashiru Jimoh. He boarded the same bus with his other accomplice along with the student from Berger to Ikeja bus stop and they all sat at the back seat.

An elderly man in his 60s, Alhaji Yinusa Aremu said he saw Jimoh sprinkle a white powder on the student and he became unconscious.

Luck ran out on the suspects at Ipodo area of Ikeja when the elderly man who was monitoring them shouted “thief! thief!! thief!!!” and one of the suspects was arrested and the other escaped.

According to Alhaji Aremu, “I was coming from Akure and at Berger Bus stop, I entered a bus going to Ikeja. I sat in the middle seat while this student was at the centre of these men at the back seat. I thought they were together when suddenly I just looked back and I saw this suspect spray white powder on the boy. I wanted to shout but I was afraid, thinking that all other passengers were members of the gang.

“When we all dropped off the bus at Ipodo, the school boy was too weak to move, so these men held his hands and I summoned the courage to shout ‘thief! thief!!’ and this one was arrested while the other escaped.”

After the suspect was arrested, he was beaten silly by the people and he said: “the student is my friend, I am taking him to his mother in Festac,” but when he was about to be set ablaze he confessed: “he is not my friend, we met in the bus and I sprayed white powder on him because we sat close to him believing that we would be able to get better ransom money if we succeeded in kidnapping him. We have been doing it for over three years. My partner who ran away was with the powder.”

The sum of N300,000 and two phones were found on him, which he claimed belonged to the student. He also claimed that he gave N50,000 to the other suspect who escaped.

The student, who regained consciousness after about four hours, managed to mention that his name is Sunday and that he is an SS 1 student.

The suspect was later taken away to Area F Police Division, Ikeja, where the incident is being investigated.

How Far?:
Half of Lagos $611.2 million has gone into Tinubu war chest for the 2015 election.

I SUSPECT THE BORROWED FUNDS WOULD HAVE GONE DOWN THE DRAIN BECAUSE YORUBA LAND REMAINS LARGELY AN UNDER DEVELOPED SLUM RAVAGED BY POVERTY, CORRUPTION, DISEASES AND DIRTY ENVIRONMENT.

geeez: How many times must I explain to ret.ards that there are five Cs of lending and the most important is Capacity?

Capacity is simply the ability to pay back. In the whole of Southern Nigeria, Lagos has the highest IGR, followed by Ogun, then Osun, then Oyo

If Mr. A earns N100k monthly and Mr. B earns N750k monthly and Mr. A owes a bank N1m while Mr. B owes the same bank N1.5m, will you say Mr. B is more leveraged? Mr. A owes ten times his capacity while Mr. B owes just two times his capacity.

Even banks make these considerations when lending to institutions and governments or why does the USA owe more than Nigeria? Loans are to aid development as they avail you immediate funds or why do you think Dangote is indebted to banks while your poor behind is not. Its simply because you either don't have a good Credit Rating or you dont have the Capacity, Character or Cash flow to pay back.

Get some education before you open another thread

YOU ARE COMPLETELY BRAINLESS AND UNINTELLIGENT. LET ME REPEAT MY QUESTION MAYBE YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND IT THIS TIME. WHAT HAVE APC SOUTH WEST GOVERNORS DONE WITH THEIR HUGE DEBT ? WHAT ARE THE IMPACTS OF THEIR RECKLESS BORROWINGS IN THE SOUTH WEST ECONOMY ?

IN TERMS OF IGR, RIVERS STATE COMES SECOND AFTER LAGOS AND IN TERMS OF GROSS ALLOCATION AKWA IBOM COMES FIRST FOLLOWED BY RIVERS STATE YET RURAL AND UNDEVELOPED STATES LIKE OGUN, OYO, OSUN ETC HAVE FAR MORE DEBT BURDENS THAN RIVERS AND AKWA IBOM STATE. EVEN MY DELTA STATE THAT IS ECONOMICALLY DEVELOPED AND INDUSTRIALIZED WITH REFINERY, STEEL ROLLING MILL, VARIOUS OIL COMPANIES, GAS PLANTS, POWER PLANTS, OIL FLOW STATIONS. 2 AIRPORTS, SEAPORTS, INDUSTRIAL PARKS, MARKETS AND OTHER INDUSTRIES AND LARGE TOWNS OF ASABA, OGWASHI UKWU, WARRI, SAPELE, AGBOR, UGHELLI, IGUBUZO ETC, IS OWING JUST $18m COMPARED TO OYO $76.6m OGUN $102m AND OSUN $62.7m RESPECTIVELY AND THESE HUGE DEBT VALUES ARE NOT INCLUSIVE OF THEIR DOMESTIC DEBTS WHICH RUNS IN HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS.

SO WHAT HAVE THE SW APC GOVERNORS ACHIEVED WITH ALL THESE HUGE DEBTS ?

$2.4BN FOREIGN DEBTS: Mortgaging the future of Lagos and other States

Fashola Lagos leads the rest of states in Nigeria in a $2.4bn foreign debt. A detailed breakdown of figures from the Debt Management Office (DMO) revealed that Lagos, Kaduna and Cross River States recorded the highest external debt stock of $611.25 million (25.64 percent), $215.68 million (9.05 percent) and $113.03 million (4.74 percent) respectively in 2012.

Conversely, Borno, Delta and Plateau States had the lowest debt stock, ‘booking’ relatively paltry $14.15 million, $18.99 million, and $21.93 million, representing 0.59 percent, 0.80 percent and 0.02 percent respectively.

Additional information from the DMO shows that States borrowed more external loans last year than they did in previous years.

(See below Table for ALL the state allocation for May 2013, and the debt profile for each state)

Despite massive internally generated revenue and huge federal allocation (Lagos state allocation for the month of May 2013, is N30b), Lagos is sinking in debt! What is shocking is the level of secrecy surrounding this debt profile, the state is not forthcoming on the actual amount owed external creditors just as a high level of secrecy surrounds the exact amount of internally generated revenue, IGR.

Available records indicate 24 billion naira is collected monthly as IGR, using former governor Bola Tinubu's company, Alpha Beta as agents, but experts say the amount could quite higher.

Critics say the ambiguity in the monthly accrual IGR is due to the fact that the sum raised is quickly appropriated by the governor and his mentor, Asiwaju Tinubu.

Lagos state Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Ben Akabueze, said he could not give specific figures on the state’s debt profile.

Akabueze said: “We are not talking of static figure. By the time we conclude today’s activities, the figure must have either moved up or down. “If you are expecting me to give you specific amount, I am not going to do that,” he said.

The commissioner described as immaterial, the issue of ascertaining the exact amount of debt.

“What is going round as the figure is, at best, an aggregate sum. However, what is important is the sustainability of the debt. In Lagos State, the aggregate debt amounts to less than one percent of annual revenue. Because of this, it is not correct to say the State is having financial problem”, the Commissioner said.

After paying a total of $76.78 million for debt service in 2012, the total external debt stock of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, now stands at $2,384,178 million, according to official figures released by the Debt Management Office (DMO).

According to the Director-General of the DMO, Mr. Abraham Nwankwo, who was guest speaker at the Citizen Newspaper’s Annual Public Lecture in Lagos, last month, State governments borrowed more external loans last year than they did in previous years.

The DMO observed that total State Governments’ external debt stock as at the end of December 2012 represents 36.53 percent of the total external debt stock of the country.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Government has been under pressure over domestic and foreign debts incurred to finance various programmes, which the opposition considers as elephant projects.

The State’s foreign debt stock has reportedly hit over $380 million and domestic debt N45 billion since the former governor, and now Vice President, Alhaji Namadi Sambo, handed over to the late former Governor, Patrick Yakowa.

It is believed that debt servicing took a toll on the State’s economy, dwarfing the developmental efforts of the deceased governor, Yakowa.

The Kaduna State Chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) recently urged Governor Yero to resign if he could not run the State without foreign loans. State Chairman of the Party, Mohammed Soba, in a statement called on the State Assembly to probe all foreign loans obtained by Governor Yero with a view to ascertaining their economic viability.

The debt profile of Cross River State is estimated at about N80bn. Much of the debt was incurred during the construction of Tinapa Business and Leisure Resort, as well as the Cable Car in Obudu Mountain Resort under the administration of former Governor Donald Duke.

The State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, in his 2012 Budget presentation, had stated that, “as a state, we are committed to meeting our debt servicing obligations. In 2011, we spent over N10bn on servicing of our local and international debt obligations.

The various arms of government must take advantage of both the domestic and external market to mobilise resources to grow the economy, to generate employment/growth and reduce poverty.

Nwankwo noted that inefficiencies in public debt management, prior to the establishment of the DMO in 2000, had pushed Nigeria into unsustainable external debt. According to him, “there were a lot of inefficiencies in Nigeria’s public debt management to the extent that debt/credit auctions were scattered in the various departments of government. Of course, that was one of the factors that caused our unsustainable external debt.”

Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo seven others are heavy debtors – Fiscal Responsibility Commission
by Akinpelu Dada, Everest Amaefule, Oluwole Josiah and Akinwale Aboluwade

Executive Chairman, Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Aliyu Jibril Yelwa

Nine states of the federation are in serious debts judging by their revenue profile, the Fiscal Responsibility Commission has said.

The states are: Lagos, Ekiti, Kaduna, Cross Rivers, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Kwara.

In its Annual Report and Audited Accounts 2011, which was released in Abuja on Thursday, the FRC listed the nine states as being under the weight of huge debts.

The FRC also raised the alarm that given the rate of growth of the national debt and debt servicing, the nation’s debt was unsustainable except action was taken to reduce the rate of growth or increase the Gross Domestic Product growth rate.

According to the report, the total indebtedness of each of the states as of December 31, 2011 was beyond the limit set by the Debt Management Office.

The DMO had said that states’ indebtedness should never rise more than 50 per cent of their annual revenues in the previous 12 months, while the nation’s total indebtedness should not be more than 40 per cent of the GDP.

For each of the nine states, however, the total indebtedness as of December 31, 2011 was more than 50 per cent of their revenue profile.

For Lagos State, the debt to revenue ratio stood at 155.4 per cent, with the annual statutory revenue standing at N125.48bn and a debt profile of N193.44bn.

On a revenue profile of N44.97bn and a debt profile of N35.98bn, Ekiti State’s ratio stood at 80 per cent. Kaduna had a revenue profile of N63.94bn, debt profile of N40.08bn and debt to revenue ratio of 62.68 per cent.

For Cross River State, the ratio stood at 61.44 per cent on a revenue of N56.92bn and a debt of N34.97bn.

The ratios for Edo, Ondo, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Kwara states stood at 56.03 per cent, 55.12 per cent, 54.5 per cent, 51.85 per cent, and 51.75 per cent, respectively.

Four other states whose debt to revenue ratio exceeded the states’ average of 36.36 per cent are Imo, 49.4 per cent; Ogun, 45.45 per cent; Bauchi, 41.97 per cent; and Osun, 36.52 per cent.

The least indebted states by the debt to revenue ratio include Rivers, 2.02 per cent; Borno, 3.28 per cent; Akwa Ibom, 3.88 per cent; Taraba, 6.79 per cent; Plateau, 8.02 per cent; and Adamawa, 8.72 per cent.

The FRC said the debt profile included external debts; money borrowed from banks and the capital market, but excluded debts owed to contractors, which could not be ascertained.

The FRC explained, “Only statutory revenue is used in the analysis because the states refused to supply data on their IGR. In any case, the IGR is not more than eight per cent of the states’ total except Lagos, which also refused to furnish its IGR. In essence, the omission of the IGR may not distort the result of the analysis.

“It is also pertinent to observe that the non-inclusion of the outstanding debt owed to contractors and contingent liabilities may more than offset the omission of the IGR.

“The Federal Government owes 111.63 per cent of its statutory revenue. In terms of debt to GDP ratio, the Federal Government debt stock is about 14.5 per cent. The national debt of N8.29tn is, however, about 22.1 per cent of the GDP. This is higher than the publicised figure of 17.5 per cent.

“At present, Nigeria’s GDP is growing at 7.45 per cent. The stock of debt is growing at approximately 23.75 per cent, while debt service is growing at 26.81 per cent.

“In a situation in which the growth rates of debt and debt service outstrip the growth rates of revenue and GDP, it is safe to say that debt is hardly sustainable, unless the rates of growth and GDP are stepped up and the rate of borrowing is reduced or held constant.”

For the Federal Government and its agencies, the statutory revenue stood at N5.54tn; while the debt stock stood at N6.19tn, thereby taking the debt to revenue ratio to 111.63 per cent. The entire country had a debt to revenue ratio of 85.38 per cent as of December 2011.

How 10 year old boy escaped ritual killing in his school at Ibadan

A school is believed to be a safe place. But that was where Abiodun, a ten-year-old primary school student in Ibadan, Oyo State, fell into the hands of a kidnapper. How did it happen?

Abiodun Oladele, a primary school student in Ibadan, Oyo State would have fallen prey to a suspected ritual killer but for sheer luck. The ritual killer was lurking around in Abiodun’s school of all places.

Academic activities in the school (names withheld), said to house both primary and secondary sections in the same compound, came to a standstill on Wednesday, June 11, 2013, when the suspected ritual killer/kidnapper was apprehended.

The suspected, identified as Chigozie Chukwu, reportedly arrived at the school during the lunch break. Chukwu, 17, who hails from Anambra State, was said to have come into the school premises by scaling the fence and hiding in one of the uncompleted classrooms in the vast compound, waiting for any of the young pupils to fall prey to his obnoxious plans.

It was reported that it did not take long before Abiodun strolled past Chukwu in his hiding place apparently wanting to go to the secondary section of the schools. Upon citing Abiodun, Chukwu reportedly called him, asking that he (Abiodun) help him locate one Taiwo in the school. But while Abiodun was trying to figure how he would be able to locate a Taiwo among the thousands of students in the two schools, Chukwu reportedly brought out a charm and started chanting incantations into it.

Within minutes, Abiodun reportedly lost his senses and started following Chukwu through a narrow bush path, which leads to the second gate of the school. In an account Abiodun later gave law enforcement agents after he was rescued, he said, “I was walking towards the secondary school when this man called me that I should help him locate one Taiwo in the school.

When I told him that there would be many Taiwos in the school, he asked that we go inside the school together. But before he followed me, he went into one of the uncompleted buildings and brought out something and started speaking a language I did not understand. He was not with the bag when I saw him. When he saw one of our teachers coming, he asked me to lie down so that the teacher would not see me and he also lay down beside me and started speaking a language I did not understand.” Luck, however, ran out on Chukwu when one of the teachers of the secondary school, who apparently was watching the development from a distance, yelled at the top of his voice ordering Chukwu and the boy not to move an inch from where they were.

The teacher also called on some senior students and teachers around to intercept Chukwu and the boy where they were while he ran down the stairs to meet them. When asked what his business was with the boy, Chukwu could not come up with a concrete explanation; neither could he explain what he was doing with the charm in his bag.
The police was immediately called in and Chukwu was taken to Sanyo Police Station in Ibadan. During preliminary interrogation, Chukwu denied going to the school to kidnap anyone. Rather, Chukwu claimed, a JSS II student in the school asked that he (Chukwu) come to the school for a telephone handset he wanted to sell to him.

He said, “I was in the school to see one Taiwo who is in JSS II. I met him recently and we discussed about a telephone handset he wanted to sell, but the money on me that day was not up to the amount Taiwo wanted for the phone. So, he asked me to come to his school to collect it with the money.

But I did not know his class, so I asked this boy (Abiodun) to help me search for Taiwo in the school.” Chukwu explained that the charm in his bag was not meant to harm anyone as being suggested, but to protect him from evil attacks.

He continued, “The charm they talked about was handed down to me by my grandfather. It is meant to protect me from evil ones,” he said, denying vehemently that he hit the young boy with the charm and rendered him senseless by spiritual means, an act which is said to have made Abiodun do his bidding without resistance.

A teacher in the school told law enforcement agents that he saw Chukwu making fetish moves on the pupil before he dragged him towards the back gate of the school. Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Okuwobi-Ilobanafor, confirmed the story and said that Chukwu was assisting the SCID at Iyaganku on investigations into the matter.

Police in Oyo State yesterday arrested five people for allegedly killing a businesswoman, identified as Kafilat.

Until her death, Kafilat was a trader at the popular Bodija market in Ibadan, the state capital.

The deceased was said to have been lured to Oyo town by her lover, identified as Gbenga Taiwo.

The suspects were taken to the house at Alhaja Sarat Street in Jare Emily area of Oyo town where the crime was committed.

It was learnt that Taiwo had conspired with his friends, Ganiyu Lukman and Kareem Afeez, to kill Kafilat for ritual purpose.

Taiwo also contacted Mohammed Saheed, an Alfa, for money ritual and decided to use Kafilat for the ritual.

It was gathered that Taiwo invited the deceased and took her to the house where Lukman worked as a guard, fed and drugged her so that she could sleep off. Kafilat was reportedly murdered in her sleep.

Her body was then cut into pieces and set ablaze to cover up the heinous crime.

But while briefing journalists in Oyo town yesterday, the state Assistant Commissioner of Police, Janet Agbede, said the command started investigating the crime when one Mrs. Sekinat Lateeef, a relative of the deceased, made a report at the Central Police Station, Iyaganku, that Kafilat was missing.

Agbede said the deceased had earlier contacted her relative on her mobile phone that she was in Oyo town with Taiwo.

She said: “We immediately commenced our investigation.

THE mystery surrounding the whereabouts of a 36-year-old woman, Kafilat Lateef, has been unravelled by the Oyo State police command, as five suspects have been arrested for allegedly killing her for ritual purpose.

The suspects, who were arrested in Oyo town, were Gbenga Taiwo (35), Afeez Kareem (38), Lukman Ganiyu (30), Mohammed Saheed (45) and Adeyemi Adedokun (40).

The Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan, Mrs Janet Agbede, who conducted newsmen round the scene of the crime, said a family member of the deceased, one Sekinat Lateef, went to Kajorepo police station to report the case of a missing person.

According to Mrs Agbede, the complainant said her sister went to her lover in Oyo, on January 21 and did not return.

She added that the complainant also told the police that calls made to Kafilat’s line was no longer going, until a few days later, when they received a call from her line that she had an accident in Lagos and was at the General Hospital, also in Lagos.

The police boss said policemen set to work after the family had reported the case, resulting in the arrest of the principal suspect, Taiwo.

Mrs Agbede said his confessional statement led to the arrest of others and recovery of the remains of the deceased, which had to be exhumed.

Taiwo, the lover, had reportedly invited the deceased to Oyo and, in connivance with his friends, Kareem and Lukman, laced Kafilat’s drink with drug, which made her to sleep off, after which Lukman hit her on the head with a digger.

The suspects had confessed that they dug a shallow grave at the backyard of the house where Lukman was a guard, where they buried the body of the deceased with a kolanut in her mouth.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that trouble started for the group when they went to the grave the second day and did not find the kolanut.

After the third day, they decided to exhume the corpse, remove the head and burnt other parts, while they buried the charred remains in another grave by a dump site at the back of the house.

Taiwo confessed that the head was given to one Adeyemi Adedokun a.k.a Baba Agbadu, to keep.

In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, Taiwo said his action was based on his discussion with a Muslim cleric, Saheed, who asked him to bring a kolanut which had been put in the mouth of a dead person, promising to use it to make a charm for him.

A herbalist, Adedokun, in whose custody the severed head was allegedly kept, however, denied being given the head, though he admitted that Taiwo brought the head to his house.

Nigerian Tribune further gathered that Taiwo was a wanted suspect in connection with cases of robbery.

He was said to have abandoned his wife and only child, relocating to Oyo from Ibadan immediately he knew there was a manhunt for him.

RITUAL KILLINGS RAMPANT IN YORUBA LAND

Father of two held for ritual killing in Ogun State

Despite his consistent denial, Morufu Olanrewaju is an alleged ritualist. He is currently at the centre of the killing of a yet-to-be identified woman in Opeoluwa Agoro, a community in Ado-Odo Ota local government council. The community recently woke to see a mutilated corpse in an open place and raised alarm.

Saturday Newswatch gathered that the landlords hurriedly met to see how to go about the situation before it degenerated to public disturbance. They then picked a delegate to report the matter at Sango Divisional Police Headquarters.

However, those who reported the matter were not allowed to return home immediately.

While the landlords were moving from house to house to raise money to secure the release of the people at the station, they arrived Olanrewaju’s house and sighted an odd sign, indicating a strange incident had earlier happened in the house.

They saw a female item and tried to follow the clue. Hardly had they gone into a serious searching when suddenly they saw a knife soaked in fresh blood. This was what gave the suspect away. It was learnt that the news spread and some youth invaded the house. This was how the suspect was marked for arrest.

The landlords tried to search for the head and other severed parts of the corpse and succeeded with the help of local dogs, which combed the likely area and brought out the head.

“The odour, I think was what showed the dog where they eventually saw the head. The corpse was deposited at the Ota General Hospital. The overwhelming evidence notwithstanding, Olanrewaju insisted he knows nothing about the killing of the woman,” a source said.

Why the suspect might have a tough time in proving his innocence is the poser thrown at him, but which he could not convincingly address. He was asked about the whereabouts of his family at the time of the incident. He said they travelled to Benin Republic.

“Preliminary investigation showed that he deliberately sent his family away from the house to have freedom to carry out his plan. Don’t forget we have arrested some boys over the matter. But I should not say all we have so far gathered,” the source added.

Olanrewaju, it was also learnt lives a solitary life in the area since he relocated two years ago. He was said to have prevented his wife from mixing with other women including her neighbours. This, another source said, was one of the reasons he was put under surveillance. The fact that other residents don’t know the exact work he does helps the suspicion.

“But we have done our own by reporting him and our findings to the police. It is left for the police to do their work,” another source said.

Perhaps to allay the fear expressed by a section of the resident that he would be given a soft land, the suspect has been transferred to the Homicide department of State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Eleweran, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital where he is currently detained.

Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, could not be reached before going to press. However, investigation into the matter is said to have been intensified. “The man would not escape justice,” the source said.

RITUAL KILLINGS RAMPANT IN OGUN STATE YORUBA LAND

Ritual Killing: Girl, 9, Beheaded, Student Rescued

OYO FARM SETTLEMENT ESTABLISHED BY AWO COMES UNDER ATTACK OF GUN CARRYING FULANIS IN CONTINUATION OF THEIR QUEST TO MAKE YORO.BA SLAVES

Oyo farm settlers lament attacks by herdsmen

•Accuse past govts of neglect

Settlers at Ilora Farm Settlement in Afijio Local Government Area of Oyo State have called on the government to come to their aid, following persistent attacks by Fulani herdsmen.

They said the herdsmen, armed with double–barrel guns and cutlasses, graze animals on their farms and destroy crops.

The settlers said whenever they challenged the herdsmen, they were beaten up and injured.

The Imam of the settlement, Alhaji Saliu Ade Salami, said: “Many settlers have been victims of the herdsmen’s attack. My son’s arms were almost amputated after he was macheted by them.

“We are living in fear, because any attempt to check these cattle rearers leads to threats to our lives. They invade our farmlands and destroy our crops, which are our only means of livelihood. We have reported them to the police several times to no avail.”

Salami said some setters have relocated to other parts of the state because of the attacks.

Vice-Secretary of the Settlers’ Forum Mr. Sunday Ojo said his hectares of cassava were destroyed and eaten up by cows.

The settlers also accused past governments of neglect.

Lamenting the deplorable condition of the settlement, Ojo said: “If adequate attention had been accorded the settlement, the situation would not have been this pathetic. Five years ago, the then government approved the electrification of the farm settlement in its budget. Till date, the transformer installed has not functioned.

“The settlement’s only source of water supply is a well with a hand pump. We often search for water from streams and the river.

“We do not have a maternity or health centre. We have one primary school. Though the teachers are dedicated, they come from town because there is no befitting accommodation in the settlement.

“We urge the Governor Abiola Ajimobi-led administration to come to our aid and save our dying souls.”

The monarch of Ilora, Oba Stephen Oparinde, declined comments.

Oyo Area Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner Bature Umar, warned the herdsmen to stop disturbing the peace in the settlement.

Umar said: “Henceforth, illegal possession of arms by herdsmen would no longer be tolerated. We will not allow anyone or group to take laws into their hands and unleash terror on others’

The settlement was established by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo. It has 105 housing units and 30 shanties.

The houses are in deplorable conditions and unfit for human habitation.

About 700 settlers were estimated to be residing in the settlement, which is about 28 kilometres from Ilora.

TEACHERS AND STUDENTS ABANDONS SCHOOL IN OGUN STATE OVER FEAR OF FULANI RAID IN YORO.BA LAND AS FULANI CONTINUES ITS DESTRUCTION OF SOUTH WEST

http://www.nationaldailyngr.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3401:fulani-herdsmen-yewa-north-villagers-at-war&catid=331:nationwide&Itemid=546

This followed the intervention of the State House of Assembly as part of steps to, nip in the bud, the annual clashes between residents and Hausa/Fulani herdsmen in the area, once and for all.

A delegation of the lawmakers paid an “emergency visit” to the area, following reports that schools in the area “have been deserted by students and teachers for fear of being attacked by the Fulanis.”

During the visit, the lawmaker representing the area, Hon Job Akintan and Caretaker Committee Chairman of Yewa North Local Government, Mr. Kunle Elegbede, appealed to the people of Ibeku, Asa, Agbon and other committees affected “not to take laws into their hands.”

He commiserated with the people of the community on the loss of their loved ones and some other properties during the attack.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon Suraju Adekunbi assured them that the state Government was working on how to improve security in the area, so that, “the student can go back to their classes.”

Narrating their ordeal, a retired principal, Prince Adeyemi Alase and Bale of Ibeku, Chief Olaleye Adigun, said a Geography teacher. Mr. Yomi Akinola and two students of the Community High School, Ibeku, were among those killed in the last three weeks, alleging that “women were Molested and killed on their way to the farm.”

In his own contribution, Adigun said the Hausa/Fulani cattle men became destructive and aggressive when they saw that there were no crops on the farms for their cows to feed on.

He lamented that “they would go into people’s farms, tear down their barns and bring out the stored crops for their cows to feed on.

“if any farmer whose crop was being stolen happens to come around, at that time, they would gun him down.”
Speaking earlier, Elegbede had charged the villagers, “to be law abiding and refrain from anything that could tarnish the image of Ogun State and Nigeria, at large.”

FULANIS CONTINUE QUEST TO COMPLETELY DESTROY AND CONQUER YORO.BA LAND; INVADES OSUN STATE

Fulani herdsmen kill two, injure four in Osun

From BAMIGBOLA GBOLAGUNTE, Osogbo

Suspected Fulani herdsmen working in Osu, headquarters of Atakumosa West Local Government Area of Osun State have reportedly killed two persons and injured four others in the town during a clash between them and some natives.

The herdsmen, now at large were said to have slaughtered an old man and beaten one other person to death while others were injured. Trouble started in the town when some herdsmen allegedly robbed along Ile-Ife/Ilesa road in Osu last Thursday, carting away valuables. It was learnt that the search among the herdsmen led to a fracas between some Fulanis and the residents which later resulted in the killing of the natives.

Daily Sun reliably gathered that the herdsmen in the town later attacked some residents and thereby killing two persons. The deceased and the injured victims, according to competent sources, were taken to Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH), Ile-Ife where they were still receiving treatment. It was learnt that the corpses of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of the hospital.

Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Mrs Folashade Odoro could not be reached to confirm the incident, but an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the area who preferred anonymity, told Daily Sun that arrest had been made by the security agencies in the town and that efforts were on to arrest the herdsmen involved in the killing.

Yoruba/Fulani clash, Four feared dead

About four people were feared dead on Friday following a clash between Yoruba indigenes and Fulani people living at Alapa Village along Iseyin Road, Ilorin-East Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Trouble purportedly started on Monday when a Yoruba man, whose name is yet to be identified, was allegedly attacked and killed by yet-to-be-identified Fulani cattle rearers on a farmland.

Nigeria-policeThe victim was said to have died on the spot.

Our correspondent gathered on Friday, that when the victim’s kinsmen heard about the death of their townsman, they were said to have mobilised and attacked some Fulani men that they found.

The revenge was said to have lasted from Tuesday to Thursday, leading to the burning of some huts belonging to the Fulanis in the bush.

The Fulani people were said to have consequently deserted their houses in the bush for fear of further reprisal.

A source told our correspondent that three Fulani corpses had been evacuated from the bush, while the remains of the Yoruba man had also been recovered by the police.

He added that many huts belonging to the Fulanis in the bush had been razed before the police intervened.

The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Agboola Oshodi-Glover, in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Friday, declined to state the number of casualties.

He, however, confirmed the clash and said that the police had restored peace in the area, as people had returned to their businesses.

“I am yet to be properly briefed on the casualty rate, so I cannot name a figure yet. Everything is now under control. There was something like clash there,” Oshodi-Glover said.

Nigeria: South West, Hub of Hard Drugs, Says NDLEA
By Kolade Larewaju, 25 November

THE National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has declared the South-West geo-political zone as one of the main hubs of illicit drug cultivation and trafficking in the country.

Addressing newmen in Abeokuta, NDLEA Chairman, Mr. Ahmadu Giade, said the situation was worrisome and that efforts should be made to check the development.

50% OF COMMERCIAL MOTORCYCLISTS, TAXIS AND BUS OPERATORS IN EKITI STATE YORO.BA LAND IN SOUTH WEST NIGERIA ARE DRUG ADDICTS ONE OF THE REASONS FOR HIGH CRIME RATE IN SOUTH WEST

NDLEA destroys N20 Million naira Indian Hemp in Ekiti.

Remi Koleosho

It was a major breakthrough for the Ekiti State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) recently, as the agency destroyed Indian hemp worth over N20 Million at Ilokun, a suburb of Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.

The destruction exercise was witnessed by traditional rulers, led by the Oloye of Oye-Ekiti, Oba Oluwole Ademolaju, as well as state government executive council members including the Health and Information and Civic Orientation Commissioners, Messrs Femi Thomas and Taiwo Olatubosun; Special Adviser to Governor Oni on MDGs, Mr. Bayo Asana among other personalities.

The illicit drug, which was packaged and bagged was set ablaze under the supervision of Mr. Femi Oloruntoba, the representative of Ahmadu Giade, the Chairman of the agency.

Giade revealed that the hemp, weighing over 5 tons, with a street price of over N20 million, was the result of various seizures from some barons in the state.
The State Commander of the Agency, Prince Ben Ikani while addressing the gathering attributed the achievements of the command in the last one year to the support of his subordinates, adding that about 48 suspects were arrested in the state in connection with drug offences during the period, while no fewer than 105 acres of Indian hemp farms were also destroyed.

He disclosed that most of the farms were discovered on mountain tops which made it very hectic for the drug fighters to detect and access the farms. The NDLEA state commander also noted that no fewer than 26 culprits have so far been convicted by the High Court in the state for various drug offences.
Oloruntoba, who is the Director, Prosecution and Legal Matters of the NDLEA, described the success of the agency in the fight against illicit drug in Ekiti State as another Ekiti parapo (Ekiti collective) war, saying that most of the people arrested for various drug offences were also on drugs.

He pointed out that 50 per cent of commercial motorbike operators and commercial bus and taxi drivers in the state are usually driving under the influence of drugs, stating that they take a certain form of hard drug called Monkey Tail before setting out for the day’s work.

He said that 25 per cent of the victims of hard drug in the country were youths in their prime. He, however, explained that hard drugs are having negative impact on the economic growth, education, food security and political stability among others, thereby calling for special attention to the youth.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Thomas, lamented the spate of drug consumption in the state, saying that the situation requires urgent attention.
He said: “The new status of the state, in the drug world, calls for urgent attention and preferably, the establishment of rehabilitation centres in the state, to ensure that the situation does not degenerate beyond the stage it is now.

Speaking also, Oba Ademolaju sought the assistance of all local governments in the state for the Agency to curb the menace at the grassroots level.
On his part, Asana who represented the state governor, Engr. Segun Oni, described the new seizure as a tremendous success compared to what was destroyed last year, calling for the sustenance of the pace set by the NDLEA in the state.

In his comment, the state chairman of Patent Medicine Operators, Chief David Falaki called for the enactment of a law banning the sales of drugs at motor parks, blaming such sales for most of the accidents recorded in the country.

His words: “I want to passionately appeal to the state government to enact a law that would ban the sale of drugs and drinks at our various motor parks, in order to minimize the rate of accidents being witnessed across the country. Most of the drivers take different kinds of drinks and drugs before embarking on any journey and shortly after take-off they either become weak or doze off while on the steering wheels. Let us take a drastic step on this now and step down the rate of carnage on our ways.”

I laugh when people think that Igbo land begins and ends with south east. They forgot that there are numerous Igbo towns in delta and rivers state especially in delta north senetorial zone and Rivers North senetorial zone who are more IGBOTIC than the Igbos in Southeast. We should not forget that a large part of Igboland was forcefully ceded to Rivers state from today's Imo and Abia state because of crude oil deposit Dr Ngozi Okonji-Iweala is a princess of Ogwashiukwu in delta state, Ambassardor Uwuche, the immediate past president general of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo from Ogwashiukwu, Prof Pat Utomi of Lagos Business School who is also a senior member of Ikenga Ndi Igbo is from Igbuzo, Delta State. There are many Igbos of Delta state who are promoting the Igbo course. You should also note that many Biafran officers and Generals are of Igbo delta origin like Lt Nzeogwu, Col Achuzia, Brigedier General Okonjo, Major General Madeabor, Major General Nwawo, Navy Captain Anuku ( Leader of the Biafran Navy ), the list goes on. NDI IGBO SHOULD BE MORE UNITED and the likes of chino should be relegated to the background by Ndi Igbo. Gov Obi was able to be selected to lead the SE govs because he relied on the IGBO CULTURE OF EQUITY and Ojukwuism. IT IS WELL WITH NDI IGBO. AMEN
