You need to sit this one out. I do business all over the world as a broker dealer and I can tell you for free that even the Chinese would tell you that their economy depends on the west to Thrive.

This is a simple game US holds the aces to. The west largely determines how quickly or slowly China can rise up.

Why do you think the USA runs a largely liberal immigration program and push "human rights" forward.

How many business are comfortable investing in China as against the west? China is mainly an output source for the west while the west is an input source for the entire world.

There is an adage that when one person cooks for you, you can finish the food but when the community cooks for you, you can never eat it all no matter how hard you try.

In a nutshell the little adage above explains why USA is the largest, wealthiest, most powerful nation in the world.

You need to go learn Geopolitics bro. Sit this one out

all the industries in the usa have been moved to china. usa produces nothing. everything in the usa is shipped from china. and usa owes china trillions of dollars. so if china decides to cut them off as decribed in the movie BIRD BOX, USA will descend into third world anarchy overnight
Again WRONG!

What you just stated here simply means that the Chinese economy is largely dependent on the west cheesy

It is the west that made China and not the other way around.

The US is capable of producing ANYTHING. They just use China due to cheaper labour and cheaper production prices.

If they unilaterally pull out from China, China is FINITO, KAPUT, ENDED!

Please enlighten me, why do an independent country keep its money, gold and other assets in other countries?
One word.....INVESTMENTS! Every country invests in anything very lucrative in another country. Sadly that other country would wield some level of control over it since it is done in accordance with the laws of that country.

This is why the world is a global village and no country can absolutely survive alone. This is why the world needs peace but some due to selfish agendas and personal warped philosophies such as what Putin has, ends up burning down everything without any regard to how interconnected the world has become

Freezing has no effect.

Freezing means the gold will be keep in custody for some time then later after resolving issues Russia will have it back.
On the contrary it does A LOT.

Freezing it means ZERO investor confidence since their credit/investor rating would be seriously slashed if not totally destroyed.

Russia is in bad shape as it is with their ruble virtually non existent and their stock exchange vaporized. This gold reserve freezing would be the 2nd out of the 3 nails needed in their imminent coffin. One more nail to go grin

The funny thing is that Russia gold is not even in USA not even in EU. Majority of their gold reserve is in china and Swiss...how will they freez assets not in their country..lol
Wrong! Russia and China together hold about 34% while the rest are incidentally held by the USA and other NATO nations.

If they want to cripple Russia's economy by more than half they can and the first step is the freezing of their gold reserves.

The US are not dumb to want to freeze some of Russia's gold reserves if they did not have access or some kind of control over it.

The west virtually Owns Russia grin

Vladimir Putin has lost his 15th commander as Russia continues to face stiff resistance from Ukrainian forces. Colonel Alexei Sharov was killed by Ukrainian forces in a fierce battle in Mariupol, dealing a hefty blow to the already demoralized Russian army that reportedly is now abandoning their vehicles and retreating in many parts of the country. This has been Russia's Worst Massacre of Military Brass suffered Since World War II.

Sharov's death is a major blow to the Russian forces given that he was among some of the close aides of Putin. This comes as leaked documents from Kremlin claim that more than 10,000 Russian soldiers have died since Russia's invasion on Ukraine on February 25.

Hefty Blow

News of Sharov's death comes as the Russia-Ukraine war entered its 27th day. Russia has now lost 15 commanders in less than a month, with Sharov being the sixth general to have been killed by Ukrainian forces. The death of Sharov comes as Russia continues to suffer its worst massacre of military brass since World War Two.

Sharov was commander of the 810th Guards Separate Order of Zhukov Brigade of Russia's marine corps. He was killed in Mariupol, a city in southern Ukraine where over 200,000 people are stranded owing to fierce fighting and continuous bombing by the Russian air force.

Putin's besieging soldiers are destroying the city while fighting robust Ukrainian resistance. Sharov' death was announced Ukrainian army soldier Anatoliy Stefan on social media. It is not known exactly how Sharov was killed.

Foreign AffairsUS Senators Working Towards Freezing Russia's $132billion in Gold Reserves. by Igbofam(op): 9:45am On Mar 23, 2022
A bipartisan group of senators is working with the Treasury Department to try to lock down Russia's roughly $132 billion in gold reserves after its invasion of Ukraine.

Why it matters: The collaborative approach is a departure from congressional efforts to shame and blame the Biden administration to shape moves on Russian oil imports, or the SWIFT banking system. If successful, it could drive more work across the aisle and along both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue, as the president balances diplomatic pressures abroad with political pressures at home.

Driving the news: Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen will meet this week with Sens. Angus King (I-Maine), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.) and Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.) to discuss the legislation, people familiar with the plans told Axios.

When Axios first reported about this bill two weeks ago, Yellen’s involvement had not occurred.

Congressional offices worked with Treasury over the weekend to make some technical changes to the bill.
King said it could pass the Senate as soon as this week. Lawmakers originally wanted to slip it into the omnibus spending bill that passed this month.

A Treasury spokesperson told Axios, “Secretary Yellen regularly meets with members of Congress to discuss legislation. Additionally, Treasury staff frequently provide technical assistance on sanctions bills."

The big picture: Russia’s gold reserves can be used by its government officials and oligarchs to launder money or for foreign exchange in unregulated markets.

The Kremlin began stockpiling gold in 2014 — when the U.S. applied new sanctions for its annexation of Crimea.

Now, as the value of the ruble crashes, the Bank of Russia is starting to buy gold again, after stopping when prices spiked at the start of the pandemic.

Existing sanctions against Russia already cover any transaction involving the country's Central Bank, Ministry of Finance and National Wealth Fund — including with gold.

What they're saying: That doesn’t cover gold that's been moved or named to someone else, like a non-sanctioned Russian bank, Adam Smith, a partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher and a former Obama sanctions official, told Axios. He said gold can be difficult to trace.

The legislation would apply secondary sanctions to any American entities knowingly transacting with, or transporting, gold from Russia’s central bank holdings. They'd also face sanctions if they sell gold physically or electronically in Russia.

Gold "is a fourth of their reserves, and we don't want them to be able to monetize the gold and undercut the effect of the sanctions," King told Axios.

What’s next: A bipartisan group in the House, including Reps. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), Mikie Sherrill (D-N.J.), Peter Meijer (R-Mich.), Susie Lee (D-Nev.), Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) has introduced a companion bill.

President Biden also has the authority to implement such sanctions independent of Congress.

Most global shipping companies have suspended cargo bookings temporarily to and from Russia amid the Russia-Ukraine crisis, says GlobalData. The leading data and analytics company notes that essential goods such as medical equipment, food, and humanitarian aid continue to be transported, according to the company's release.

Sathiya Jalapathy, Business Fundamentals Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “The decision by many global shipping companies to halt their services to Russia could put the country in a difficult position as it will struggle to import goods such as motor vehicles and spare parts, industrial machinery and equipment, apparel and electrical machinery.”

GlobalData identifies some of the key shipping companies that have suspended their operations:

MSC Mediterranean Shipping: Swiss international shipping line MSC Mediterranean Shipping has stopped accepting cargo bookings to and from Russia, covering the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, and Far East Russian regions. It operates through a fleet of 600 vessels with more than 230 trade routes and serving 500 ports. The company operates in Russia through its subsidiary MSC Rus, LLC.

CMA CGM RUS: CMA CGM RUS LLC, CMA CGM’s Russian subsidiary, with nine offices including in Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, and Moscow serving seven Russian ports, has suspended its operations in Russia. CMA CGM Group does not expect to be majorly impacted by this decision, as it has a strong fleet of 566 vessels, serving 420 ports worldwide, with a combined capacity of three million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU).

Maersk: Danish shipping company Maersk has halted its container shipping operations temporarily to and from Russia. It operated through three shipping routes connecting Saint Petersburg and Kaliningrad in the Baltic Sea; Novorossiysk in the Black Sea; and Vladivostok and Vostochny on the Russian east coast. The company has also announced that it will suspend its ocean and inland cargo bookings temporarily to and from Russia. Maersk intends to sell its 30.75% stake in Global Ports Investments, a port operator in Russia. Maersk derived 2.5% of its total revenues from the country in FY2021, which amounted to $1.5 billion.

HMM: HMM halted cargo bookings on two of its shipping routes to and from Russia, citing low demand. However, the company said that it will fulfil previous bookings. The company operates container ships with a capacity of 1,700 TEUs each on the Busan to Vostochny and Busan to Vladivostok routes. HMM confirmed that halting these two routes will not have any impact on its performance, as it operates 79 ships with a total capacity of 816,194 TEUs serving 60 sea routes and more than 100 ports worldwide.

Ocean Network Express: Singapore-based container and shipping company Ocean Network Express (jointly owned by KLine, MOL, and NYK) suspended cargo bookings to and from Odessa in Ukraine, and Novorossiysk and Saint Petersburg in Russia.

Hapag-Lloyd: German international container and shipping company Hapag-Lloyd suspended bookings to and from Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine. It operates a fleet of 257 vessels with a capacity of about 1.8 million TEUs. The company operates in Russia through offices in Kaliningrad, Moscow, Novorossysk and Saint Petersburg.

One company that continues to transport goods is COSCO Shipping. The company's tanker fleet continues to transport crude oil, which is Russia’s major export commodity, to China.

Jalapathy adds: “COSCO is offering economic succour for Russia as it faces a barrage of economic sanctions from various governments.”

Foreign AffairsMoscow Sheremetyevo Airport Sends 7000 Staff On Leave Amid Sanctions. by Igbofam(op): 11:00pm On Mar 21, 2022
The largest Airport in Russia, Sheremetyevo Airport near Moscow has sent 40% of its staff – around 7,000 people – on furlough. The decision was announced by the general director of the airport Mikhail Vasilenko.

Air traffic at Russia’s biggest airport has fallen sharply since the end of February after the Russian invasion into Ukraine and the subsequent imposed sanctions by the European Union and the United States.

Russian airlines can only operate domestically and to a few countries that didn’t impose sanctions on the country. Most airlines are not operating to/over Russia.

The airport also announced the suspension of all future investments and the closure of the third terminal in addition to the already closed terminals E and F.

Staff working at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport are transferred onto a part-time regime as the airport suffers less from the passenger drought
.

In a document, Vasilenko wrote that: “the decision was announced for reasons “out of the control of the employer and employees” and in connection with a “critical decrease in passenger traffic” against the backdrop of sanctions against the Russian Federation and the closure of the airspace of a number of countries.”

Employees on furlough will still get 2/3 of their salary and can retain their job. They still have social protection and other support, a union member said.

PoliticsRe: Tinubu Cites Lack Of Electricity As Greatest Impediment To Economic Development by Igbofam: 12:34pm On Mar 21, 2022
wirinet:
You still go not get me. Stable and reliable electricity is very expensive. Ask countries that have stable power how much they pay per KWh. Now how will nigeria, a country with minimum wage of N18,000 where more than 60% of the population is said to live on 1$ per day effort to pay N100/KWh? We need to increase peoples earning power to be able to afford electricity before we can start talking about development.
The cost should not be your concern. Once it's available everywhere the population utilizing it would mitigate the cost.

Nigeria is a country with over 200million people and that says a lot.

The focus you should have is what the outcome of stable power would be.

1. Massive Infrastructural drives
2. Massive industrialization
3. Massive investment or ramped up re-investments

Those 3 above would equal more jobs, better pay due to competition and the pursuit of the best by these businesses which in turn would mean better educational drives by the populace.

At the end of the day just like infrastructure finds a way to pay for itself, so would the stable supply of electricity.

Lack of patriotism means that all (both government officials and ordinary people) don't love the country.

They would rather steal to destroy your country for their selfish gains than make efforts to see it grow economically.

If you don't understand it with this simple explanation, there's nothing else I can say.

Wrong. Tinubu is right in a way.

Without the government first GIVING to it's citizens and doing all they can to make them comfortable (in this case, the provision of steady electricity) then Patriotism would never come into play.

I disagree with tinubu. Even though he is right that electricity is crucial for economic development, it is not the most important. The most important impediment for national development is manpower. By manpower I mean practical education that provides the necessary knowledge and skills for economic activities and production. Our universities and polythechnics chunning out paper graduates with no practical or employable skills cannot develop a nation. Even if the government generates 1000Gw of electricity, they will only use it to DSTV, YouTube and for play.
Besides generating, transmitting and distributing electricity is very expensive and most Nigerians cannot afford to pay the right price for electricity and hence many people, especially businesses bypass despite electricity still being subsidized by government.

With adequate sound technical education and skill, Nigerians in collaboration with government can find other power sources - Gas, solar, wind, hydro, etc. An innovative government can power gas that is being wasted to our homes and offices for us to use ti generate out own electricity.
There are many solutions to power, we just need innovative graduates and technicians.
You are putting the cart before the horse. Stable electricity first which would in turn drive industrialization. This would create a massive need for a qualified workforce (be they practical or paper qualified as you put it)

The work force is already there, the condusive environment is what is missing.

Why do you think these same Nigerians relocate abroad to do same things Nigeria has not created a conducive environment for which in turn would have made it easier for them to stay in Nigeria?

Electricity first!
