I think this stats is misinterpreted by readers here.
The stats is talking about percentage of families in the above listed on states receiving remittance from abroad, and not the volume in terms of amount received by the states from the total amount of remittance from abroad.

For example, if 1000 families from Edo received 1 dollar each, and only 10 families from Imo receive 10k dollars each, this stat will show that greater percentage of Edo household received remittance ahead of Imo.
Because this stat is not about amount received.
It's about% of people receiving.

Evboesi:
your post reeks of confusion and lack of knowledge, I don’t know where to start attacking your argument from.

There is nothing like a Bini almagam, Usen and other border area towns, to the west of course, are bilingual because of two reasons, is only normal communities to the west and east especially at the periphery speak an additional language, it is a common theory anywhere in the world, don’t make a conspiracy out of it.

One of them is this, because they border Ondo state, and it could be because of the same way Ekpon happened,

There is nothing ancient about Oza, your oga Ogbuefi seem more knowledgeable than you on this subject matter, they offended the Oba in the fifteenth century and fled to Agbor, that was the beginning of Oza.

Many Esan communities were formed or became considerably larger because several Bini people fled Bini in droves because of political turmoil, and many Esan communities were formed, most of their oral tales attest to that,

Iduwe’s junk is not corroborated by Bini city or Udo, that’s how you know junk, There was no conquering party anywhere, not one recorded by Bini nor Ife, Bini is spoken along some 8,600 kilometers square of land. It is only at the periphery you see bilingual groups which is normal everywhere. Udo does not speak Yoruba and she has no tradition of Coming from there. Udo is as ancient as time and she reeks Edo all through and through. Benin does not have any tales of being an Igbo land. At best, she hosted some who later returned to their land. The core was and is still Edo. What about Urhonigbe, it is far older than anything Oza can think of, aside the fact, that the Olokun worship started there, many communities to the east of Benin has history of migration from Urhonigbe

Idu was an ancestor, as we have families trace to it, these families have origins from Udo!
Idu as an ancestor is a Bini modern day fabrication as usual.
Usen is bilingual because they are remnants of aboriginal Yorubas in Udo that were not assimilated fully into the Bini Amalgam.
It happens.
Nope, they didn't offend Oba. They rejected the new Yoruba order from Ife in Bini and had to leave.
Esan is older than Bini which is both a recent Amalgam formed by Esan, Igbo, Oza, Yoruba ( the rulers) and Nupe refugees.
Your claims are ridiculous. Ofcourse some Esan groups were able to resist the Amalgam and free their homelands on which modern Bini Amalgam stand on.

Bini has no land to start with because Bini is a recent Amalgam.
This is why Anioma communities speak of origin from parts of where you call Bini today.
They are not speaking of origin from modern Bini, they are speaking of origin from ancient Igbo communities in the land called Bini today many of which was involved in the Bini Amalgam formation.
The oral history is not totally wrong, it's just that it's misinterpreted.
It's same way Igbos in Enugu North speak of origin from Igala, the oral history is not wrong because there were ancient Igbo communities existing in where Idah and other Igala communities stand today, many were forced to retreat southwards towards Nsukka, leaving their lands and relatives who accepted the new Junkun order that formed the Igala Amalgam behind.

Igala and Bini elders know this history.
But lies and need for pride and expansionism has beclouded your reasoning and will never allow modern Igala and Bini people come out with the truth.
It's the Amalgam (multi Ethnic) that gives rice of many ethnicities having histories of origin Bini or Igala, when they don't speak those languages.
It's because they are actually speaking of origin from their ethnic component that was involved in Bini and Igala formation.
It makes sense.
It's like an Irish person saying his parents are from USA, he is not speaking about blacks or other ethnicities of USA, he is speaking of his Irish speaking ancestors that were involved in USA formation.
Culture › Re: Igbo Origin Of The Ndoni And Aboh People - Ndoni Historian by Igboid: 1:17am On Aug 01, 2023
There is a pattern ancient Igbos named settlements.
Mostly is by topographical features.

If you are moving from Enugu to Abia State, the topography goes from hilly(Enugu) and slopes into a valley ( Agbor).
Hence you get towns like Agbor-ani ( Agbani), Agbor-ogwugwu( Agbogwugwu) as you move from Enugu to Abia .

Same Ancient Igbos replicated same name pattern in Anioma.
You move from Enuani (Oshimili/Aniocha) which is quite hilly, into a sloppy and less hilly terrain towards Edo, hence you have Agbor, should have been fully called (Agbor-ani) to compliment the Enu-ani at the upper most end of the landscape/terrain.
This is how you know our Igbo ancestors were same people and had nothing to do with Bini which they were part of original components that formed it, in conjunction with Yorubas ( who were/ remain the conquering and rulling class, and other Indigenous Edoids who are still fighting up to today to displace the new Yoruba Oba dynasty, which is the root of the protracted battle between Ogiemien (the leader of one of original Edoid Indigenes of where Bini was built) and the Oba (the Yoruba ruling dynasty that ousted the Ogiemien).

Evboesi:
Benin originated from Agbor bawo, see this goat.

Iduwe’s attempt at history is a desperate and laughable attempt at foolishness. Iduwe took tales of some drunk Oza nogogo and Ika elders and wrote that sham he calls history. That historical attempt by Ika and nogogo people in delta state is laughable. There are many ancient communities in Bini that predate Oza. And it is even a known fact among Oza people themselves. When we talk of ancient communities in Benin, Oza does not even come to mention.

The Binis were fewer before 1897, not because we are not ancient people, but because there was some systems in place (ritual killings and sacrifice, consistent wars between Bini and her neighbors which led to loss of lives, consistent migration away from the city and Bini land as a result of political turmoil, succession disputes which led to loss of lives on both side of persons supporting either princes)ensured the population did not grow astronomically and remained at a spotwhich are however absent today and has led to population explosion and growth among the Binis. You can deceive those ones in your camp. But the bigger Oza in Edo state are ruthless, there is no community that is more pro Bini than them. A worthy mention is the Oduwa imasuen,(yes the Oduwa Imasuen you know another is senior kings Ogbebor, Naomi Ehigie, Stanley Iyonawman, Fabomo Edoleyi, Richard Ugiagbe and so on. These guys from Oza in Edo state are self conscious of who they are and they are not deluded
Iduwe was right.
Bini is like Igala.
Both are hybrids and not original.

Bini was founded on Iduland( Ancient Land occupied by Igbos of Onitsha, and other Anioma clans), Udo( this was ancient Yoruba land that shared boundary with Idu an ancient Igbo land, both were located where modern Bini was built) and ancient Edoid groups like Oza and Esan,by Yoruba conquerors from Ile Ife.
They( the Yoruba conquerors) United the remnant of the Igbos, Edoids(Oza and Esan), Yorubas (Usen and co) and some Nupe elements as well, who remained after their invasion, to form the Amalgam you call Bini today.
Bini is a mixture of different groups.
This same scenario played out in Igala, where Ancient Igbo , Okpoto and Yoruba clans living side by side in Kogi were displaced by invading Junkun conquerors, who United them all to form the Amalgam called Igala.

In case of Bini the Esan, Oza and other Edoid speaking groups dominated, so the new language became Edoid, while the Ile Ife conquering party established the Oba dynasty.
In Igala case, Yorubas dominated, so the language stayed Yoruboid, while the conquering Junkuns established their dynasty.

Oza was there as a distinct group before Bini almagam was formed.
You see traces of incomplete assimilation into the almagam called Bini in Usen as the Yoruba components of Bini over there managed to retain their original language, just as Igbo speaking Igbanke and other pockets of Igbo enclaves in Edo South like Owariuzo and co did as well.

Iduwe's history was spot on.
Agbor is very much older than Bini. Just as Nsukka is older than IGALA.

The govt was not led by Zik in reality. Zik was figurehead President pocketed by Bello and Balewa/NPC in connivance with the British.

Worse was the bad politics by Dr Nwafor Orizu immediately after the coup. If you read Shehu Shagari's book, you will see it there.
Orizu as SP was acting president when Zik was in the Caribbean as Jan 15th coup happened. As Balewa was missing and feared dead, Orizu should have made the senior minister Dipcharima acting Prime Minister instead of just phoning Zik abroad and leaving cabinet members including Dipcharima and Shagari, in his parlour (and go have a meeting with only Ironsi in the inner room).

Only to emerge from inner room and say Ironsi will take over the govt to provide security.
Everybody else took it as Igbo plan/plot and it looked suspiciously like it, whether true or not.

Orizu failed to be a statesman in a critical moment and no wonder he's hardly mentioned in 9ja history today.

Funny enough, the young officers were partly angered by how shabbily NPC/FG treated Awo, sending him to jail in Calabar. Today nobody mentions it, not even SW. Never weep more than the bereaved.
This is a senseless talk.
Orizu never had the military back up to refuse handing over to Ironsi who had control of the Khaki boys.
It's outright idiotic to assume that just because Orizu and Ironsi were Igbos, that Orizu had the option to refuse to hand over to a an armed military Ironsi with the military boys at his command.
Many of you are diabolical and the way you reason is troubling.
Even Ogundipe who was second in command to Ironsi ran away when Ironsi died because he didn't have the military boys control to take over or to stop Gowon coronation.
But somehow in your evil and twisted narratives, a hapless Orizu had options to refuse Ironsi and hand over to a civilian Government.
How you lots sat this without conscience is baffling.
This is why I remain anti NIGERIA unity and pro Igbo Independence.

He called on all Agbor indigenes to preserve Agbor culture and stop promoting Igbo culture. His words, “stop giving our children Igbo names. The native names given to our children should be pronounced and written in Agbor language and not in Igbo or Ika language as Agbor has its own unique language The Igbo red cap should also be dropped as it is not a native cap for Agbor Kingdom. Soon, I will start driving away my palace chiefs who are fond of coming to the palace, wearing in red caps. Agbor traditions should be respected and preserved for future generations. Parents and the elderly should teach our children and the youths the culture of Agbor”.
Now on you Dein Agbor stuff, I believe you were mischievous in choosing part of his words to use to push your agenda.
Dein is not against Igbo Language, because that will be like self fight, seeing as what Agbor speak is also part of the constituents that make up the artificial construct you call "Igbo language". If you are speaking Agbor, you are speaking Igbo grin.
What Dein was actually doing was that he wants Agbor dialect protected from being swallowed up by the artificial Igbo language construct.
Notice he didn't condemn the use of Igbo language, he also condemned the use of Ika language, he wants Agbor dialect strictly kept.
What he is doing is not disimilar to what Igbo tribes in SE is doing too. Everyone is fighting to preserve their own Igbo dialect from being swallowed up by "Igbo Izugbe".
My elder brother married an Abia woman, I remember the day she gave her daughter the name "Chizaram", my grandfather was not impressed at all. He felt Chizaram which is of Abia/Imo origin and has been chosen as Igbo Izugbe, is an attempt to erode his own Ogidi language.
He wondered why they didn't name the child "Chizalum" as we say in Ogidi. He wasn't impressed at all.
He has always been a purist and clannish.
He hates hearing names like Chinyere which he believes pose danger to his Idemili dialect.

Funny enough I was in an Ngwa and Ndoki Facebook page some time ago and they were complaining of same thing, they feel Igbo language is taking away their Ngwa and Ndoki languages.
They wondered why their daughters and sons are bearing names like Ifeoma, Ifeanyi, Emeka, etc, when they don't use such expressions in Ndoki/Ngwa, they rather say Iheoma, Iheanyi, and Emela (Chukwuemela instead of Chukwuemeka).
It might seem anti Igbo, but what Dein is doing out there is Igbotic. Igbos are naturally clannish and segregating rather than assimilating.
This is why I quickly dismissed cock and bull stories of Bini people who were turned Igbo overnight. Igbos don't accept strangers as part of our units. We are naturally clannish and everything is tied to Umunna/Obi (Kindred) all knitted together by blood ties, it's almost impossible to get in as a stranger.

The push back has started. Since you want to tell your Grandfather who his father is, you'll be told who screwed your mother. Aboh will soon enthrone a new king, let's see if he'll go to Aro or Benin.

The Dein of Agbor Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Dr. Benjamin Ikenchukwu Keagborekuzi I, has enjoined his subjects to stop promoting Igbo culture, describing the Agbor culture as ‘unique and peculiar’.

The Dein gave the admonition at his palace recently while giving his royal blessings to the new Iregwa of Ogbemudien Community, Pa. Bogi Abagi. He called on the good people of Agbor Kingdom to join hands with him to effect the changes he desires to be in place. According to him, “I am back and happy to be in the midst of my subjects. This kind of gathering gives me joy because it is an opportunity for me to learn more from my people. There is room for change, therefore my wish and desire for my subjects is that they adopt and respect every change that is being made. Going through the history of Agbor Kingdom, one will thank the gods for wisdom. Thus, everyone will join hands with me to reposition things the way they ought to be in order to restore our lost glory”.
Lol, you are being mischievous and funny, you took the dein words out of context to push your Igbophobic agenda, I will come back to that later, but first let me explain some to you and the onlooking audience.

There is nothing called Igbo language or Igbo culture.
Igbo Language and Igbo culture is the sum total of all the dialects and cultures found in all Igbo speaking clans.
For example, Omabe is Nsukka culture, but because Nsukka is Igbo, Omabe is also Igbo culture.
Uzoiyi is Umuoji culture, but because Umuoji is Igbo, Uzoiyi is also Igbo culture.
No Igbo person speak Igbo language, we all speak dialects of an imaginary Igbo language.
What you call Igbo language is actually an artificial construct made by linguists who took words from all Igbo dialects including from those of Anioma dialects, to for an artificial language that all Igbo tribes could understand and communicate with each other with, without much difficulty.
No one speak Igbo language in their villages in SE. An Nsukka speak Nsukka, Ezza speak Ezza, Ndoki speak Ndoki, Onitsha speak Onitsha, Ogidi speak Ogidi/Idemili, Awka speak Awka.
But when we all meet, especially in Igbo Urban areas, we drop our dialects and use the artificial construct called Igbo Izugbe, to aid communication and understanding across board.
Infact the first Igbo conference that started the mover to create Izugbe was held in Asaba in colonial area. It's also well known that professor Emenanjo from Anioma is one of the key brains behind current Igbo Izugbe curriculum. So you see, Anioma ( Enuani in particular) have always been key players in the evolution of what you call "Igbo language" today which we call "Igbo Izugbe" or central Igbo that has been very crucial in uniting distinct Igbo tribes.

This is the truth and what Ndiigbo know of Bini and Western Igbo interactions and not the delusional stories some of you hold unto today.:

"Benin originated from Agbor. Ika had never been subjected to Benin or other trbes. Benins were weaker and fewer before 1897, Benin influence went no further than Ugo. Ikas harrassed Benins wth successful wars which led them to dig the trench around them".

~Agbor Patriotic Union 1939

This is what Chief E A Iduwe an Agbor chief had to say about Bini:

"Agbor speaks Ika dialect, akin to other Igbo tongues but with the special vehicle of Ika culture and image. It is DISTINCT AND DISSIMILAR FROM EDO LANGUAGE and vice versa, even though they said that Agbor was once under Oba's rule. This was so when the Bini were the first to acquire firearms from the Portuguese, and with which they TERRORIZED the neighbouring states. But this state of affairs lasted only for a short time. Agbors liberated themselves before the 18th century.
"Oru asuw Igbo, Igbo asuw Ika" : From this saying, Agbor appear to be the cradle of the Ika dialect and the and the Citadel of IGBO heroes" .

The below attached historical records and accounts should tell you all you need to know about Aboh’s ties to Benin. The evidence attached herewith corroborates oral accounts from Aboh as well as those from its neighbors- all of which developed and were collected independently. Except there was a “Berlin-style” conference in which Benin, Anioma villages, and Aboh people were assembled to agree to tell these complementing stories in future, then the origin and history of Aboh people is not in doubt. It's legitimacy and reverence drew from this direct relationship with the Oba stool. And yes, IT DID CROWN at least an ISOKO King that I'm 100% sure of.
Disregarding the below evidence, it would historically make sense for Benin that reigned supreme and largely unchallenged in the South, to maintain an outpost on the Eastern front in Aboh just as it did with Warri in sending Prince Ginuwa to reign over that land. These sort of controls would've ensured Benin indirectly controlled the major slave trade routes even though that trade was prohibited in the capital. The marked difference between what happened in Warri and what happened in Aboh however was that unlike in Warri where a political elite were sent to rule, a caravan arrrived Aboh and a fight of conquest ensued with the Aborigines. Having secured victory by subterfuge from the Igbo speaking aborigines and entered into a peaceful pact with the less numerous Itsekiri speaking aborigines (The Akarai and Iwuere people respectively) the Igbo-speaking aborigines were made to live separately in their Akarai homelands, allowing for the spouting of a new civilization comprising primarily of the original Benin migrants and those they integrated into their community from far and near. There is ABSOLUTELY NO evidence of Igbo dominance in Aboh ABSOLUTELY None and I dear any Cow talking non$ense here to provide any.
Those still trying to push an Igbo-origin narrative and attempting to distort the history of Aboh and Anioma people in general are the usual suspects who do not know their own history but feel inclined to tell other people theirs. Clowns that still do not know that there are Aboh people in Imo and Enugu states that boldly claim to be of Delta origin, bear our names and espouse our culture in their supposed heartland.
On the autonomy of Urhobo and Isoko communities, I haven't found any evidence of it. Maybe I haven't done enough research on the subject but what I do know and I stand corrected is that the Urhobo's were subject to the Oba's appointed King in Warri and the portions that didn't fall under the influence of the Olu of Warri were directly administered by the Oba from Benin. Reason there were no prominent Kings but chiefs in those parts up until later in the 19th century. These Chiefs were defacto kings and were required to gain legitimacy from a Benin-anointed stool hence the resort to trips to Benin and later, Aboh when it rose to prominence.
How some of you can write these delusional stories with straight face is a wonder to me.
Lol!
A Bini Caravan indeed, the same Bini cowards that dug moats to protect themselves from Agbor, are the ones you said came with Caravan to Western Igbo?
Your brain is full of cow dung to believe an all powerful Bini exists that landed in Western Igbo chased Akarai away, only to lose their inferior Bini language.

As a result, Aboh was in a position to become the most important middlemen in the trade between the Niger Delta and the hinterland. Building on these, its people were able to amass wealth and power.

Aboh people definitely believe unwaveringly that their kingship is a direct offshoot of Benin (through Ozolua), and this is the information that they have given ethnographers and anthropologists who have recorded their traditions since the 1800s.

I am personally skeptical about most claims of Benin origin. Scholars of oral tradition have shown that it is quite common for people to create genealogies linking them to nearby or even distant centres of high culture and power, especially one that has influenced them profoundly, like the Benin influenced all around them.

The founders of Aboh monarchy definitely came from areas to the west of the Ukwuani-Aboh area and found an indigenous population (the Ankara/Akiri/Akili) when they arrived. But I find it plausible that they may have come from Benin-influenced places in the Ika-Aniocha corridor, rather than directly from Benin. The royal section of Aboh (i.e., the "Benin” immigrants) call themselves Umudei. Dei is still used in Agbor to address the Obi and nwadei is still used widely in the Ika-Aniocha sector to mean prince. The term for princess in Aboh, which is Akpe also has ‘cognates’ in places along Ika-Aniocha. The geographical spread of these terminologies (dei, nwadei and akpe) is restricted and doesn’t include Benin. Agbor actually has a tradition that the founder of Aboh was an Agbor prince.

Anyway, an Ika-Aniocha origins for the Umudei in Aboh is my opinion, and no one should feel inclined to accept it.

This will depend on what you mean by extension. I have not seen anything in the traditions and history that suggest that Aboh was a vassal of the Benin empire in any practical sense. The Obi operated as a full-fledged sovereign ruler, even carving out his own little ‘empire’ along the banks of the Niger. However, the Oba of Benin was viewed as some sort of elder brother. For example, both Aboh and Benin traditions suggest that succession disputes in Aboh were referred to the Oba for settlement.
That Aboh founders originated from Ika area is actually common sense.
You don't even need any history book to tell you that.
Chief E.A Iduwe in his book lamented what he call inferiority complex by Igbo speaking groups where by no Igbo town want to be seen as an offshoot or subordinate of the other. Therefore towns who are offshoot of another Igbo speaking town will never acknowledge that in oral history to avoid being seen as appendage to the bigger Igbo town, instead they will forge a Bini origin story and pass down to generations unborn.
Chief Iduwe believe that the founder of Aboh was a son an Obi of Agbor had with a Bini prostitute that was rejected by Ndi Agbor, and was sent to "Oru country" ( ancient Igbo name for riverine Igbo communities like Ukwuani/Ndokwa and those in Anambra East and West) with Odibos.
It makes sense when you deep it.
Esumei arrived at Aboh already Igbo speaking.
Such history of being decended from a son of a Bini prostitute rejected by Ndi Agbor is too demeaning for Aboh egos, little wonder an irrational Bini prince origin story was concocted, not minding the fact that Aboh Igbo language makes a mockery of that irrational origin story.

All the places you have mentioned are different from Aboh in that the aboriginals were displaced by the Aboh migrants. It was clearly not a case of assimilation but conquest.

On the language stuff you keep talking about. Eastern Igbo speakers are from the Cameroon-Calabar/Akwa Ibom axis. It's obvious from their accent. They only copied the language of the people of the lower Niger region who controlled the trade around the region and thus their lives. That is why when an easterner and an Akwa Ibomite speak English, they sound alike. We are not the same, if you like go and die. We never consumed human flesh, our cultures are not similar
Lol!
Who wants to be same with your backward mushroom kingdom of wannabe second hand Binis who suffered brain damage on their way to Aboh and lost their Bini language and names and are now at the mercy of Igbo language and names that they are mutilating?

Nnaa! Una too overestimate unaselves o.

That you think SE Igbos and Akwa Ibom have similar accent shows how little you know about SE.

As for your assertion of Igboland being in Forest and cut off from civilization, the joke is on you.
Awka blacksmiths were unrivalled in the entire NIGERIA.
They won all blacksmith tournament set by the British Empire in Nigeria.
They went to as far as Okitipupa and Cameroon teaching people new metallurgy methods.
The Igbo ukwu artifacts is greater than whatever exists anywhere in Nigeria.
The Igbo textiles were so good looking that the colonials never believed we made them, they called them "fancy clothes" and thought we got them from trading via Trans-sahara trade route.
Who is Aboh? Aboh is an insignificant mushroom town whose only claim to fame was living close to the river Niger navigation area which made them to meet the colonials before inland Igbos. That's all.
There is nothing linked to human civilization in terms of art, science, and ancient technology that is linked to Aboh.
Your weak king accepted the British trading conditions without even putting up a fight, whereas the rest of Igboland fought vigorously against such unfair trade restrictions. Enu-ani and Ika fought Ekumeku, Aro fought full blown Aro-anglo war for months.

Imagine the delusion of thinking you have a superior history than a people your Bini brain damage suffering Ancestors had to borrow your language, gods , market days, cosmology, culture, etc from.
A people you owe everything you breath, including your names?

Haha! See madness. grin grin

These are ethnic groups SE share boundaries with:

the greatest pride of the Aboh man is that we have a history we are proud of. In fact, in the whole of Delta State and perhaps SS/SE(except the Bini) Nigeria no people have a rich history as the Aboh, the only possible exception being the Itsekiri people.
Talking about the Itsekiri, there is a part of Aboh that the people are descended from the Itsekiri. These people are called Umu-iwele. They do not speak the Itsekiri language anymore but both they and the rest of Aboh know they are descended from Itsekiri, which was known as Iwerre and became Warri. You may want to tell us how these people lost their Itsekiri language or if the Itsekiri tribe was so prestigious that they decided to claim Itsekiri heritage.
The Itsekiri like the Abohs had access to the trade waters and are widely dispersed, many having lost their language. Like efewestern said you find Itsekiri surname such as Majemite and Tsekiri in Uvwie, an Urhobo area, there is an Itsekiri settlement called Igbogidi in Orhuwhorun, an Urhobo town. Such is the nature of such historical people around the Niger and coast(the Igalas too)

I do not blame you or find your offensive posts annoying because you are from a region that was cut off historically, locked out in the forest with minimal contact with the world around them. How can you then understand the dynamism of ethnogenesis. You will NEVER understand these things unless you open your mind and choose to learn.
Common sense is far from you.
The argument is not that some vagabonds and refugees from Bini, Itsekiri, Urhobo, Yoruba,Igala, Kafanchan, Timbuktu, Ur, Sumerian, Kemet, Mesopotamia, Anatolia, etc didn't migrate into Aboh.
The argument is that Aboh were already 98% of Igbo aboriginal stock in population, hence absorbed whoever migrated into the area.
You would think this should be common sense, but common sense is far from folks like you.

The Itsekiri you speak of also have sections of it that migrated from Western Igbo.

The Bini has Igbo migrants, Yoruba migrants, Igala migrants, Ijaw migrants, Nupe migrants, etc.
That's the way the world is, everyone welcomed good strangers in their midst,on the condition that the strangers have to lose the language and culture of wherever they are coming from, and embrace the language and culture of their new hosts and home.
For the umpteenth time= This is common sense. This is why you have to pass IELTS to get permanent stay in English speaking USA, Canada,UK, New Zealand, Australia. They welcome you, but you must lose your language and culture and assimilate into theirs. That process has been in place since antiquity and our ancestors practiced it as well. Grow up.

For example IdumuOka in Esan are of Awka origin in Igboland, but they migrated into Esan area and are today fully assimilated as Esan people.
It becomes ridiculous to now come and start saying that Esan is no longer Esan because few insignificant Igbos migrated into their midst and were welcomed and assimilated.
I had also given the example of Igbide people in Isoko whose Ancestors are a mixture of Awka and Mgbidi Igbos, but are today fully assimilated as Isokos.
Can we now say that Isoko should now acquire a new identity because of this? Nope. Igbos understand these things because we have common sense, this is why you will never see Igbos lay claim to any land where Igbo dialect is not the native language, irrespective of the people myth of originating from Igboland, we know better.

Most of you are ridiculous, your arguments are infantile, annoying and out of touch with comon sense.

It's an Ikegwuru situation.

If the one that went to Bini to get a staff succeeded, he will know that his support base is Bini, and he will do everything to link himself biologically to Bini to continuously get Bini support against his local rivals.
He would take on a Bini title, he would marry Bini princesses, his Biniphilic descendants will now start spinning stories of town being established by Bini princes, and this story will not be opposed by others because it sounds prestigious to be linked with Bini.

And so through attachment to Bini, the new monarchy in Western Igbo establishes a monarchial throne for himself and his descendants forever and he will justify it by claiming to be a Descendant of imaginary Bini prince.
This story will be passed from generation to generation until modern times when people with rational braincells will challenge it, by noting how impossible it is for a Bini man to establish Igbo speaking communities.

This is where we are today.

From the references, Obi of Aboh never confirmed into office any Urhobo king and the Ovie of Abraka only needed external recognition or bragging rights that was why he went to Obi of Aboh. Obviously, Aboh kingdom was far more influential than Abraka kingdom.
The above was same reason Igbo speaking kings in Western Igbo went to Bini to get staff of office. Sometimes princes are even sent to Bini palace to learn Bini court and monarchy ways and such princes usually returned home to be kings in Anioma with Bini names they acquired while in Bini. Such Bini names survived as Bini sounding surnames today, which these lots now use to support their irrational Bini origin stories. Tufiakwa!

Infact the reason Asaba is not attached to Bini or have irrational Bini origin story is that during a period when the multiple Obis in Asaba were dragging for supremacy on who to be recognized as overall Obi, ie Asagba of Asaba, one of the Obis rushed and went to Bini to collect recognition in form of Ada and Eben from Oba Bini, but another Obi heard of it and rushed to Nri to collect his own staff as the overall Obi of Asaba.
When the one that went to Bini came back, he unfortunately realized another also went to Nri to get staff of recognition thereby rendering his own useless.
This was how the Asaba remained free of senseless Bini origin stories.

Besides, what is our people's obsession with large population? I need to know this. Do you think a Qatari or Emirati will want a larger population in their country?
You haven't looked at it from another angle.
Yorubas and Hausas marry early when they don't have financial muscle.
End result is that they lose lots of children to childhood diseases that money for medical care could have prevented.
The Igbo marry late, but he had built solid financial foundation and could see his children through healthcare challenges and raise them to adulthood.
Niger Republic, Chad and co have Islam and polygamy too, yet those countries are scantly populated. Incase you bring up desert factor, Gambia is an Islamic country too, with polygamy and all, yet not well populated.

Having polygamy and too many kids, doesn't translate to having enough Adults in the end.

What Bini surnames in Onitsha?
You mean Bini borrowed titles which in most cases are actually Ife borrowed since what we call Bini is actually an Ife invasion and rulership of native Edoid tribes, as can be deciphered from truths being spilled over to onlookers by the ongoing battle between the deposed Edoid ruler of the area the Ogiemien and the new Ife conquerors who instituted the Yoruba Oba system, ie Oba Bini, as against Ogie/Ovie/Ojie as found in other Edoid speaking lands.

What bigger embarrassment can be found than the sort of group shared psychosis passed from generation to generation in Aboh, where grown ups believe their ancestors suffered brain damage on the journey from Bini that is just a stone throw away, so much that they lost their Edoid language despite having Edoid speaking Isoko neighbours and replaced it with Igbo language, the language of local Akili people they supposedly conquered.

This story above only makes sense to a people suffering from inferiority complex and love for fantasies and irrational stories.

I have not asserted here that Aboh colonized Nsukka, I only made the assertion that Aboh people who settled in Nsukka most likely took the Surname Ossai to that axis.

You are very right when you wrote that Aboh was not known for distant inland expeditions. However, Aboh people were known to have a strong trade and social relationship with the Igalas. It is on record that the Obi of Aboh's son went to Idah to settle a dispute that arose relating to Aboh people in Igalaland in the 19th century. What this means is that Aboh people were settled in Igala at that time. The opposite is also the case as we have people of Igala ancestry who have lived in Aboh for more than hundred years, and are now fully Aboh people(I personally know some).

Some of these Aboh people must have found their way to Nsukka from Igala and took the name Ossai there. Infact, I was amazed once when a friend told me he father's place use to phrase "m'biaka" to say "I am coming" which is exactly what we say in Aboh

Ossai is also a Bini sounding name. If you tell anyone your name is Ossai, you are most likely going to be asked if you are from Edo State. Fact!

You have to study the history of the Aboh people very well to understand some of these things. The Aboh people were very dispersed because of the distant trading nature of Aboh in those times. You also have to understand that those times are not like now when people get stuck to their ancestral homes. During those period anywhere you find yourself that you are accepted becomes home. For example, there is a family called Enebeli in Effurun, the Urhobo axis of Delta State(cc Efewestern). This family are completely assimilated in Uvwie land and have family compound and street there which I have seen with my very eyes. Recently, I was told they are originally from Aboh although not confirmed. But Enebeli is a strong Ndokwa/Ukwuani name like Ossai.

My dad told me a story of how his father took him and his brothers to the East of the Niger to find some of their "lost" family members in the 50s. These family members had lived away from Aboh for many many decades, most of them(adults) were not born in Aboh and had never been to Aboh. His mission was to encourage them to come back home and expand the family. There are many people of Aboh ancestry like them all over the place that when you see any trace of Ndokwa/Ukwuani culture anywhere distant from the Ndokwa axis, your first suspicion should always be Aboh!
Cc Fejoku, Igboid
Laughable.
Both Aboh and Bini are too small in population and recent in terms of antiquity in comparison to Nsukka.
It's ridiculous and outright delusional the sort of things you guys believe and project over there.
I can only shudder at how warped your mindsets are.

If at all there is transfer, it Should be from Nsukka to Igala and from Igala to Aboh.
Because Igbo Nsukka is very old and is one of the founding members of Igala ethnic group alongside the Yorubas, Junkun and Okpotos.

So the only plausible way the transfer you propose could have happened is from Nsukka to Igala and from Igala to Aboh.

But alas, Igala don't bear the name Ossai, so off goes that your little fantasy.

Keep running in circles.

Bini borrowed what? Ugbo? Common, that is a word visible in almost all Edoid languages. Even non-Edoid group that had zero contact with Igbo make use of the word. It means Forest/Bushes/uncleared path. Or did Ilaje, Itsekiri, Ikale also borrowed it from Igbo?

I can give you a deep usage in Edoid. Infact, there is a town called Ugbokodo in Okpe, when translated into English from Urhobo, it means the forest is deep. "Ugbo-na-kodo-r'. "

My issue with you is that you are always economical with historical facts. You find ways to twist things to suit your idealogy. clefstone is right with some of his submissions.

What most of you confuse is that you think Edoid starts and ends with Bini. Infact, a lot has happened before the Bini empire took shape. The true origin of all Edoid people before the migration could even be from a remote area in Esan. Bini's influences overshadowed everything but that doesn't change the fact that some ancestors of what we today know as Anioma are Edoid.
Ugbo is Igbo, Igbo is bigger than all Edoids combined. Do the maths.

It is also fact that a large percentage of what you call Edoid today are of Igbo origin, or you think the tail( Edo) can wag the dog( Igbo) ?

The commonality of the name in those parts would only mean that the Nsukka people bearing that name are most likely from that axis. It doesn't mean that Aboh is older than Nsukka.

The Aboh people were some of the most mobile group in the whole of Southern Nigeria like the Igalas. The result is that there are Aboh people that have lived in other places for centuries and lost all trace to their homeland. The reason for the Abohs dispersal is trade, access to the Niger etc.

You are so biased in your arguments its becoming irritating
Nsukka has no history of interactions with Ndokwa people. Nsukka people were not trading along river Niger.

Ossai may be the most common surname in all of Delta state. It is so common that people that bear the name are hardly relatives. If you say more people bear Ossai in Nsukka than in Ndokwa/Ukwuani, it means you make careless statements.

I know Nsukka people bear Ossai (the current Dep Gov of Enugu State bear the Surname) but the only possible explanation for that is that they have people that moved from Delta axis to that location. The people of Aboh are widely dispersed in all of Southern Nigeria, from Igala down to the Coast fyi
No Aboh person migrated into Nsukka.
Nsukka is older than Aboh, the Lejja Iron works proves this and the sheer population of Nsukka zone is a pointer as well.
So you might as well look for Aboh Descendants elsewhere, as no one in SE is Bini, we are all Igbo and couldn't have come from a group of Bini people who mysteriously lost their Bini language despite defeating and taking over the land of Igbo speaking Akili people. Imagine cock and bull stories.

Again Nsukka is more populated than the entire Ndokwa Ukwuani region and hence will 100% have more Ossai than Ndokwa/Ukwuani zone, this is again common sense.

The communities bearing Aboh in Igboland have no history of migration from Aboh in Ndokwa, infact most of those communities in SE with Aboh as name are older than recently formed Aboh in Delta.
